first fame media crack top hats
German health experts
blamed Spanish cucumbers
could not even identify
a virile new E-Coli strain
busy pointing finger of blame

said it was cucumbers
then it was German beans
identified guilty farmers
then retracted accusations
within twenty-four hours
after sales of these crops sours

give German health experts
our helping hands
impose accusation bans
until credible evidence sources
professionally lab sprouts
concentrate on saving victims

German

being the German kid in the 20's in Los Angeles
was difficult.
there was much anti-German feeling then,
a carry-over from World War 1.
gangs of kids chased me through the neighborhood
yelling, 'Hieneie! Hieneie! Hienie!'
they never caught me.
I was like a cat.
I knew all the paths through brush and alleys.
I scaled 6-foot back fences in a flash and was off through
backyards and around blocks
and onto garage roofs and other hiding places.
then too, they didn't really want to catch me.
they were afraid I might bayonet them
or gouge out their eyes.

this went on for about 18 months
then all of a sudden it seemed to stop.
I was more or less accepted(but never really)
which was all right with me.

Germany played Spanish cucumbers
misdiagnosed source wrong songs
but EU's health commissioner criticized
Germany's 'premature conclusions'

misdiagnosed source of mass E-Coli outbreak
spread alarm among Europe’s public damaged
European wide agriculture sector but outbreak
was contained to a single relatively small area

let us stress that the E-Coli outbreak is limited
geographically to the area surrounding the city
of Hamburg therefore no reason exists to take
action on panic wide continental European level

measures against product are disproportionate
the problem is located in Hamburg Hamburg
naughty Germany incorrectly blamed Spanish
cucumbers but innocent Spain fierce protested

Now this is the tale of the Council the German Kaiser decreed,
To ease the strong of their burden, to help the weak in their need,
He sent a word to the peoples, who struggle, and pant, and sweat,
That the straw might be counted fairly and the tally of bricks be set.

The Lords of Their Hands assembled; from the East and the West they drew --

Plaint Of The Missouri 'Coon In The Berlin Zoological Gardens

Friend, by the way you hump yourself you're from the States, I know,
And born in old Mizzourah, where the 'coons in plenty grow;
I, too, am a native of that clime, but harsh, relentless fate

No Man's Land

I'd been cleaning out the attic
And the gables in the roof,
Which were dusty, full of cobwebs
And a horror, tell the truth,

Dear Ned, I now take up my pen to write

Koening knew now there was no one on the river.
Entering its brown mouth choking with lilies
and curtained with midges, Koenig poled the shallop
past the abandoned ferry and the ferry piles
coated with coal dust. Staying aboard, he saw, up
in a thick meadow, a sand-colored mule,
untethered, with no harness, and no signs
of habitation round the ruined factory wheel
locked hard in rust, and through whose spokes the vines
of wild yam leaves leant from overweight;
the wild bananas in the yellowish sunlight
were dugged like aching cows with unmilked fruit.
This was the last of the productive mines.

The Royal Air Force Hero and the Luftwaffe General

Britain fought for her life.
Hitler’s armies prepared
For an invasion of England.
Savage air battles took place
Over the skies of Albion.

Then a miracle happened:
In the summer and autumn of 1940
The Royal Air Force defeated
The numerically superior Luftwaffe.

This was a turning point in the war.
Lacking adequate air support,
The Fuehrer could not carry out
His invasion plans.
