Quotes about demand, page 3

Just Because....

just because...
your skin is dark,
and mine is light...
does that demand fear and hate?
are our dreams not the same color?
do both of our hearts not pump red?
just because...
you speak a different language,
and your god has a different name...
does that demand fear and wars?
are our needs not the same?
are our families not tired of the deaths?
just because...
you have money,
and i dont...
does that demand fear and oppression?
is our hunger not one and the same?
do we not both have faces and names?
just because...

The Prairie-Grass Dividing

THE prairie-grass dividing--its special odor breathing,
I demand of it the spiritual corresponding,
Demand the most copious and close companionship of men,
Demand the blades to rise of words, acts, beings,
Those of the open atmosphere, coarse, sunlit, fresh, nutritious,
Those that go their own gait, erect, stepping with freedom and
command--leading, not following,
Those with a never-quell'd audacity--those with sweet and lusty
flesh, clear of taint,
Those that look carelessly in the faces of Presidents and Governors,
as to say, Who are you?
Those of earth-born passion, simple, never-constrain'd, never
obedient,
Those of inland America. 10

To Be Understood

Nothing believed comes,
If one should run from it.
And...
Nothing believed comes,
If one is stunned by it.

Nothing is comprehended,
To understand.
And...
Those who become offended,
Often demand...
To be understood.

Observe and listen with a sitting,
Not too many do.
Too many are quick with their lips,
And...
Prove they are rude.
To then to accuse,
Someone to be abusive.

So Don'tchu Bother Me Tonight

If you AINT seen the light...
Don'tcha bother me,
Tonight.

Don't bother me...
Tonight.
I'm doing all I can to live my life right!

Don'tcha bother me,
Tonight.
I have no appetite to share in a fight!

Don't you bother me...
Tonight.
I wont allow myself to move in that groove.
And if I did you' be the one that would lose.
I've worked too hard to be abused by you.
I could demand from you 'backpay'.

Don'tcha bother me,

Uh-Uh

No need to tell me you don't understand.
Uh-uh...
I'm not the kind to seek a rhyme or reason.
No!
Don't snap your fingers and from me demand.
Uh-uh...
To have me do
What you want.
Just to be pleasing you.
I am no monkey in a zoo!

Uh-uh,
I'm told you talk about me with your friends.
Uh-uh...
What makes you think I have armored feelings?
So,
There are some things about you I can't stand.
Uh-huh...
You like the kind,
To be backstabbing people like you,

The Valediction Of The Body For The Soul

I am the body, and you are the soul. I let you in. You are my guest.
Inside my body, you feel what i feel. You know what i know.
What you like i too must like.
What you disgust I too must disgust.
We have become one. Ideally, we go. I go where you go.
I let you stand on my feet
I let you touch the persons and things that you love
Through my Hands.

I am the body and you are the Soul. Inside me
You are my guest. They say that you are more important.
Holier. More wise. Filled with Understanding,
As I let you stay, I have become of lesser importance
To those who worship you, through me.

I am the body, and I have become secondary
to Your importance. But you are just my guest. I have let you in.
Now I demand that you too must respect my flesh,
My bones, My blood. I bleed. You don't. I feel the pain
You don't. I now demand that you too My Soul

How Beastly the Bourgeois Is

How beastly the bourgeois is
especially the male of the species--

Presentable, eminently presentable--
shall I make you a present of him?

Isn't he handsome? Isn't he healthy? Isn't he a fine specimen?
Doesn't he look the fresh clean Englishman, outside?
Isn't it God's own image? tramping his thirty miles a day
after partridges, or a little rubber ball?
wouldn't you like to be like that, well off, and quite the
thing

Oh, but wait!
Let him meet a new emotion, let him be faced with another
man's need,
let him come home to a bit of moral difficulty, let life
face him with a new demand on his understanding
and then watch him go soggy, like a wet meringue.
Watch him turn into a mess, either a fool or a bully.

Three of my friends

Yes, it’s a photo of the three of them –
it’s not so often I can get them all together;
they’re so much in demand

This one’s Rosa. She has something
quite unique: she’s no great beauty, yet
she has that something which
we’ve given up trying to define:
let’s say, it’s, inner beauty…

her girl friends are devoted to her;
men can’t keep away from her:
when you’re with her, you feel yourself
to… shine? As if you too, are beautiful?
(Her ‘girls’ admit it; men,
they do not like to put a name to it…though
sometimes contemplate themselves her husband;
glow with imagined, noble pride;
then sigh, at their unworthiness;
can’t wait to see her once again…)

See the God in child

“You can see the God in child” goes the saying
No one disputes the theory or denying
I too hold the same views and fall for same
As I have come out it recently and still bear childish name

I used to be very adamant and roll over on ground
I may demand anything if any thing new was seen or found
It was met by family members as I was only one in family
They would even listen carefully to every demand and meet happily

This may be the only reason that child is seen as exact replica of divinity
The innocence is seen in every demand and they would like its continuity
They will refuse for nothing and even go on accommodating more and more
Such treatment is never heard of any stage if not expected or called for

The childhood friendship is retained for longer duration
As it is interwoven with sweet memory with all the citation
You would happily narrate the childhood incidences
In the big seminars, religious gatherings or even while at the dances

Women's Suffrage

Fellow men! why should the lords try to despise
And prohibit women from having the benefit of the parliamentary Franchise?
When they pay the same taxes as you and me,
I consider they ought to have the same liberty.

And I consider if they are not allowed the same liberty,
From taxation every one of them should be set free;
And if they are not, it is really very unfair,
And an act of injustice I most solemnly declare.

Women, farmers, have no protection as the law now stands;
And many of them have lost their property and lands,
And have been turned out of their beautiful farms
By the unjust laws of the land and the sheriffs' alarms.

And in my opinion, such treatment is very cruel;
And fair play, 'tis said, is a precious jewel;
But such treatment causes women to fret and to dote,
Because they are deprived of the parliamentary Franchise vote.
