The Dedication To A Book Of Stories Selected From The Irish Novelists
There was a green branch hung with many a bell
When her own people ruled this tragic Eire;
And from its murmuring greenness, calm of Faery,
A Druid kindness, on all hearers fell.
It charmed away the merchant from his guile,
And turned the farmer's memory from his cattle,
And hushed in sleep the roaring ranks of battle:
And all grew friendly for a little while.
Ah, Exiles wandering over lands and seas,
And planning, plotting always that some morrow
May set a stone upon ancestral Sorrow!
I also bear a bell-branch full of ease.
I tore it from green boughs winds tore and tossed
Until the sap of summer had grown weary!
I tore it from the barren boughs of Eire,
That country where a man can be so crossed;

Can be so battered, badgered and destroyed
That he's a loveless man: gay bells bring laughter

The New Vestments
There lived an old man in the kingdom of Tess,
Who invented a purely original dress;
And when it was perfectly made and complete,
He opened the door, and walked into the street.
By way of a hat, he'd a loaf of Brown Bread,
In the middle of which he inserted his head;--
His Shirt was made up of no end of dead Mice,
The warmth of whose skins was quite fluffy and nice;--
His Drawers were of Rabit-skins, -- but it is not known whose;--
His Waistcoat and Trowsers were made of Pork Chops;--
His Buttons were Jujubes, and Chocolate Drops;--
His Coat was all Pancakes with Jam for a border,
And a girdle of Biscuits to keep it in order;
And he wore over all, as a screen from bad weather,
A Cloak of green Cabbage-leaves stitched all together.
He had walked a short way, when he heard a great noise,
Of all sorts of Beasticles, Birdlings, and Boys;--
And from every long street and dark lane in the town

GOD's Elephant - Beating Back The Lion...
GOD Pulled The Lion’s Teeth
GOD Crushed The Lion’s Claws
GOD Took The Lion’s Roar
… and made it very small
GOD Tore Off The Lion’s Tail
GOD Cut The Lion’s Mane
‘Til The Lion’s Voracious Voice
Became Lame and Tamed … and Shamed
Because That Lion Was A Coward
That Crazed Lion Was A Bully
Looking Only For The Weak
To Feast On Them Fully
Not Because It Was Hungry
Not Because It Was In Need
Terror Became Its Creed
Because Its Favorite Taste … Was Greed

The Lady in the Tower
Some years long since, though best forgot
I travelled to a country squire,
I'd not seen him since Grammar School
We'd shared those years of learning, dire!
But as young men we'd grown apart
For he had titles, grounds to claim
While I was just a journeyman,
My friend, his name was Daniel Crane.
He owned most of the Bailiwick
And lived alone in quiet content,
His home was known as Motte House
The moat as dry as tongues in Lent,
The carriage took me to his step
Where he had waited long for me,
And we had laughed in merriment
Old friends, to see how changed were we.
The house, a rambling Tudor style
Had more rooms than a grand hotel,

One Of A Kind
Youre one of a kind
I gotta have ya
Well youre one of a kind
I need to have ya
Right from the start
You tore me apart
You took the best part of my heart
Body and soul
You took me out of control
You stole the best part of my heart
Youre one of a kind
Youve got magic
I know youre one of a kind
Baby youre static
Right from the start
You tore me apart
You took the best part of my heart
Body and soul
You took me out of control
You stole the best part of my heart

Angels
Sparkling Angel
I Believe
You Are My Saviour
In My Time Of Need
Blinded By Faith
I Couldn't Hear
All The Whispers
They're Warning So Clear
I See The Angels
I'll Lead Them To Your Door
There Is No Escape Now
Now Mercy No More
No Remorse Cause I Still Remember
The Smile When You Tore Me Apart
Chorus
You Took My Heart
Deceived Me Right From The Start
You Showed Me Dreams
I Wished They'd Turn In To Real
You Broke A Promise

Last Christmas
Last Christmas
I gave you my heart
But the very next day
You gave it away
This year
To save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Once bitten and
Twice shy
I keep my distance
But you still catch my eye
Tell me baby
Do you recognize me?
Well it's been a year
It doesn't surprise me
Merry Christmas
I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I love you"
And meant it
Now I know

Take Me
I pull my boots off, throw my weapons on the floor
Cry my eyes out, in my private little war
Well it seems Ive been a soldier
Heaven knows Ive been no saint
In my camouflage and armor, cold heart and grease paint
To you this has no meaning the armistice laid down
The armies are all quiet and the guns dont make a sound
cause you melted the steel walls, tore down the barbed wire
Filled in the trenches, demanded a cease fire
And now youre leaving, theres nothing I can do
I want you to know youre gonna take me with you
Well now three on a match is suicide in the foxhole of my mind
And way off in the distance the air raid sirens whine
And they sing your song of rescue to my tattered worn out shell
You drag me to your safety from this my front line hell
cause you melted the steel walls, tore down the barbed wire
Filled in the trenches, demanded a cease fire
And now youre leaving, theres nothing I can do
I want you to know youre gonna take me with you
The blood that was spilled in the heartache before

Dick Cavett T.V. Interview (1970)
Janis it's a shame you couldn't do an up tune for us but I liked that one.
Later in the show.
Yeah, maybe later we'll be talking too. You're really shot after, after a number, let alone
a whole evening I would think.
Yeah, yeah.
You tell me you kind of collapse after a show ?
Well, I'm used to it because I'm so turned on by doing one that it's hard to do, it's hard to stop after one to tell you the
truth, because it just makes you wanna do more.
Your engine is revved up ?
Yeah, sort of!
I know all the hip expressions, you see. Your engine is revved up.
You're a real swinger, I can tell by your shoes, man!
Wait a minute, Janis, Janis. These were good enough for my grand-father, they're good enough for me.
I had a lot of trouble, last week I, er, it wasn't that tune, we opened with another tune and I tore a muscle.
I heard about this. You tore a mussel somewhere near Maryland. Er ...
It was closer to home than that!
Well, er ...
But I played forty minutes, man! I did forty minutes!
Yeah, but how do you, how do you tear a muscle singing, was it from the exhaustion or ...
No, I went ... like that.
