Who Stole Our Outhouse? (Fun Poem, But True)

Several drunken revellers were walking home late Saturday night
When they passed McDougal’s farm and they spied a sight
There behind the farmhouse was an old wooden shack
The outhouse stood tall and noble out back
One had a good idea for a jolly spoof
‘Lets lift the outhouse and put it the up on the roof.’
‘But which roof, there are several there? ’
The others looked and grinned ear to ear
‘Lets stick it on the barn, there is a ladder over there.’
So at two o’clock in the morning they went to work full of glee
But they had to be as quiet as could be

Tipping the outhouse on its side
They carried it to the barn
Then got the ladders from along side the farm house
They leant them against the wooden wall
Then pushed and pulled the outhouse to the roof
Placing it on the top, watched it dangle there
Someone found some wood
To wedge under it, to secure it there.

Sad Bell

Sad bell languishing long after autumn
on a dead branch of the tree of knowledge
rooted like black lightning
in the lightless watersheds of my soul,
why have you left it so late to fall,
why do you run like a false prophet
from the truth of your own song,
hang back like a bird
weary of turning south with the others
like the weeping sands of an upturned hourglass?
Cruel life, kind life, no life at all,
everyone dies like the last word at the entrance
of the cave-mouth they were seeking;
the hidden treasure they marked
on their starmaps of thought and feeling
buried deep in their own eyes.
The key lies down in the coffin of the lock
and graves everywhere open their doors
to the stranger on the threshold
of his own homecoming.

Looking down on a junior cowboy
I see myself at the end of each day
Im feeling sad somehow
My rumble tumble days are over now
Took loopy loo to a paper hat party
And fought the kid who tried to take her away
