Quotes about obligation, page 2

Simone Weil

It is the aim of public life to arrange that all forms of power are entrusted, so far as possible, to men who effectively consent to be bound by the obligation towards all human beings which lies upon everyone, and who understand the obligation. Law is the quality of the permanent provisions for making this aim effective.

All writers … have an obligation to our readers: it's the obligation to write true things, especially important when we are creating tales of people who do not exist in places that never were — to understand that truth is not in what happens but what it tells us about who we are. Fiction is the lie that tells the truth, after all.

When Did Truth Become a Perception

When did truth become a perception,
And not an expectation.
When did it become questioned,
And deception an obligation.

People excuse themselves from misdeeds.
And then demand forgiveness,
To continue doing as they please.
While slandering and backstabbing,
Those who are honest and of integrity.

When did truth become a perception,
And not an expectation.
When did it become questioned,
And deception an obligation.

Volunteering+Reciprocation=(not) Obligation

If you are volunteering your services,
That is exactly what that means.
Your services are consciously volunteered.

IF you are volunteering with accompanied expectations...
You set yourself up for disappointment.
And those who do this are not empathized at all.

Very few are dedicated to reciprocation.
Since to do so is not an obligation.
And some folks select to enforce a connection,
Between these disconnections.
Volunteering+Reciprocation=(no t) Obligation.

We all – adults and children, writers and readers – have an obligation to daydream. We have an obligation to imagine. It is easy to pretend that nobody can change anything, that we are in a world in which society is huge and the individual is less than nothing: an atom in a wall, a grain of rice in a rice field. But the truth is, individuals change their world over and over, individuals make the future, and they do it by imagining that things can be different.

To promise that which is known to be impossible is no covenant. But if that prove impossible afterwards, which before was thought possible, the covenant is valid and bindeth, though not to the thing itself, yet to the value; or, if that also be impossible, to the unfeigned endeavour of performing as much as is possible, for to more no man can be obliged. Men are freed of their covenants two ways; by performing, or by being forgiven. For performance is the natural end of obligation, and forgiveness the restitution of liberty, as being a retransferring of that right in which the obligation consisted.

Whence It Happens Upon You

Whence it happens upon you, powerless are you to resist-
Omniscient, not am I, but surely knowest do I, this:
Acceptance and obligation are but your only recourse,
This philosophy is what my heart would have me endorse!

We believe we are the masters of our own fate,
Speak this to my soul, as my destiny I await!
Tell my captured heart that it is free to choose,
Surely this would only serve but to bemuse!

Naught is there for such, to allow for my recusal
Remiss too, without mention- my heart's steadfast refusal!
Alas, men have engaged in war for its kind:
For now, my amity is free, no longer confined!

In retrospection, ponderance of life as was before,
Becomes obligation owed, to so much more!

You've Got The Life

You've got the life.
And love,
With joy.
Right there within you.
If you knew...
what it is you must do,
To...
See it through.
Committed.
As if afflicted with obligation.

You!
Don't turn around.
I am talking to you.

You've got the life.
And love,
With joy.
Right there within you.
If you knew...

That's Real

What's profound in a relationship
Is pure unadulterated honesty
You love the other person so much

That it hurts.

Or are you so unrelated to who you really are?
That you refuse to be true to the real situation?

But if so that's no consolation
Concerning one's obligation.
Your obligation is to self

Not anyone else.
As humans we were created
(PERFECT) ...what happen?

A woman became a raw toy
For that raw boy,

Human Rights’

In a civilised land
That accepts duty to all
Citizens have rights
Some great, some small

This is how things should be
To those who value
Truth and fairness
And justice and decency

But those who treasure money
And the power of wealth
Seek to remove such rights
Through deceit and stealth

They claim that duty
Comes before such rights
But they accept no obligation
For causing another’s plight
