I am a journalist in the field of etiquette. I try to find out what the most genteel people regularly do, what traditions they have discarded, what compromises they have made.

A rude nature is worse than a brute nature by so much more as man is better than a beast: and those that are of civil natures and genteel dispositions are as much nearer to celestial creatures as those that are rude and cruel are to devils.

Owain
Stray, astray!
To do it once again;
Steel, genteel!
To read it once again;
Play, pray!
To write it once again;
With the paint brush.
Owain, own, win, now, in, an;
Hear, heart!
And like the colours of your love;
Prey, pray!
Biography, philosophy, photography;
But, try to keep the vision on.

Grandmother (Hepseba Richards)
Ancient hands, wet with oil,
cuddled his supine body
from nine months
to six years old.
With a genteel voice, contoured
to caress a newly begun mind,
she spoke immutable words
of comfort and direction.
Yet, scolded with a voice of thunder
when he stepped out of line.
At fifty six,
he can still hear her voices.
He inherited trenches
of inexhaustible love.

Concordia
Peace at stake,
it worked.
Withdrawal of rubber dolls
playing with fire.
Empty bowls in lunar month.
Concords were flying very high
noiselessly crossing the peaks
of great grudges.
Pure golden hair –
of grief.
It really was miracle.
Bald eagle was waiting.
Enough time to steer a murder.
The irresistable desire
to rub with a paranoid.
Extracting a genius from mediocre genera.
Life had become too genteel.

Many Noble Men
Many noble men
Many ignoble men....
have stood back to back
And fought in trenches
For some noble cause
And died like fools
To satisfy the warmongers
Who sit in their comfortable palaces
And plot
And plot
And plot.........
How to fill their coffers
How to expand their tents
How to create a holocaust
That will turn respectable, genteel folk
Into brute beasts and killers;
And without emotion
They send,
Many noble men
Many ignoble men...............

Tragedy
That LIC agent
With the
Beautiful
Writing…
Very genteel,
And good-looking.
Baba told me -
He had a happy
Family with a
Young wife,
And two children.
One night
A truck -
Struck them
While they were
Returning home
On their scooty.

Lamenting ladies
A lady laments a voyage of pleasure
And cornucopia, English, weather.
A lady laments a man's time for leisure
But never the daffodil fields of treasure.
A lady laments her chicken-wire home;
Believing the cockerels out on the roam.
A lady laments good-sparkling youth
But only half-hearted in truth.
A lady laments the political tool
But never the boy's public-school.
A lady laments the critic's eye;
Scorning only to whisper and spy.
But-above-all: what a genteel lady laments
Is that once lost innocence.
