IT was a wild and untrain'd bower,
Enough to screen from April shower,
Or shelter from June's hotter hour,
Tapestried with starry jessamines,
The summer's gold and silver mines;
With a moss seat, and its turf set
With crowds of the white violet.
And close beside a fountain play'd,
Dim, cool, from its encircling shade;
And lemon trees grew round, as pale
As never yet to them the gale
Had brought a message from the sun
To say their summer task was done.
It was a very solitude
For love in its despairing mood,
With just enough of breath and bloom,
With just enough of calm and gloom,
To suit a heart where love has wrought
His wasting work, with saddest thought;
Where all its sickly fantasies

Cut this picture into you and me
Burn it backwards kill this history
Make it over make it stay away
Or hatell say the ending that love started to stay
Theres a kid a floor below me saying brother can you spare
Sunshine for a brother old man winters in the air
Walked me up a story asking how you are
Told me not to worry you were just a shooting star

Its a picture perfect evening and Im staring down the sun
Fully loaded deaf and dumb and done
Waiting for sedation to disconnect my head
Or any situation where Im better off then dead

The Tryst

Ambrose stood at the cottage step
A bouquet in his hand,
He'd come to woo sweet Adeline
From a strange and far off land,
They'd known each other since children, and
They'd made to each a vow:
‘I never will love another more
Than I love you, even now! '

They'd played in the heat of the summer sun,
They'd played in the autumn shade,
But winter carried him far from home
And the love that they'd almost made,
They wrote through spring and the summer's height
They wrote right through to the fall,
But the winter chills saw the postman fill
No letterbox at all.

His letters came back, duly stamped
‘Not known at this address! '

Grief is a many varied thing
And variously is caused.
Grief cannot be but second place
Preceded by a love.
We do not grieve except that we
Have lost that once fond of.

If grief should be complete
For one you once held dear,
Who turned a back and did you harm
And caused a numbing tear;
No more repent that grief today
Or shed that rock of fear
Than shake a spirit by the hand
Or welcome ghosts appear.

Memory Is A Cheating Thing

Memory is a cheating thing-
It only strives to please,
And over bitter clouds creates
A shimmer to deceive.

Memory is a kindly thing-
It drops curtains on the past;
And through the layers of gauze is seen
Brave figurines of glass.
