A Titanic Loss.

A titanic loss
Near countless rivets
Mountains of coal, to heat and form and melt
Blood, sweat and lives to match the pride that was felt
Lavishly fitted out, no expense spared
Many hundreds to experience the virgin berths
Excitement and celebrations as they board the biggest ship on earth
Stupendous, colossal....titanic
They were not to know of the horror and panic
In that icy sea with no help to come
Insufficient lifeboats with only room for some
The dignity with which they met their end
Husbands and wives, family and friends
In The deepest grave to be laid to rest
After being found they'll be left where they are..we know its best.

Titanic

She was built in the city of Belfast;
She was a ship that was built to last.
She was rumoured to be unsinkable,
But, soon happened, the unthinkable.

She left the dockside, to the sound of cheers.
Her ballroom was bedecked with chandeliers.
On champagne and caviar, her passengers dined,
As they left Britain's shore far, far behind.

She steamed across the Atlantic Ocean,
Keeping good time, with a steady motion.
Little did her passengers know what lay ahead,
As they all lay there a-sleeping in their beds.

To avoid an iceberg, her Captain tried,
But ice put a hole in her starboard side.
Into her huge hull, the sea water gushed;
Along the decks, the water soon rushed.

The White Ships and the Red

(For Alden March)

With drooping sail and pennant
That never a wind may reach,
They float in sunless waters
Beside a sunless beach.
Their mighty masts and funnels
Are white as driven snow,
And with a pallid radiance
Their ghostly bulwarks glow.

Here is a Spanish galleon
That once with gold was gay,
Here is a Roman trireme
Whose hues outshone the day.
But Tyrian dyes have faded,
And prows that once were bright
With rainbow stains wear only
Death's livid, dreadful white.

A Song of Brave Men

Man, is the Sea your master? Sea, and is man your slave? –
This is the song of brave men who never know they are brave:
Ceaselessly watching to save you, stranger from foreign lands,
Soundly asleep in your state room, full sail for the Goodwin Sands!
Life is a dream, they tell us, but life seems very real,
When the lifeboat puts out from Ramsgate, and the buggers put out from Deal!

A gun from the lightship! – a rocket! – a cry of, "Turn out, me lad!"
"Ship on the Sands!" they're shouting, and a rush of the oilskin-clad.
The lifeboat leaping and swooping, in the wake of the fighting tug,
And the luggers afloat in Hell's water – Oh, "tourist", with cushion and rug! –
Think of the freezing fury, without one minute's relief,
When they stood all night in the blackness by the wreck of the Indian Chief!

Lashed to their seats, and crouching, to the spray that froze as it flew,
Twenty-six hours in midwinter! That was the lifeboat's crew.
Twice she was swamped, and she righted, in the rush of the heavy seas,
And her tug was mostly buried; but these were common things, these.
And the luggers go out whenever there's a hope to get them afloat,
And these things they do for nothing, and those fishermen say, "Oh! it's nowt!"

A sub-race of human race
It comes back
With the eyes
Flashing by blood!
A sub-race of human race
Sowing the panic
With the existence
Of sick faces!
From the dusk reborn
Of ancient time
Titanic Shadow
Black wing of death!
