No Complaints

I haven’t got much money
and not too many clothes.
I’ve got holes in my trousers
and no hankie to blow my nose.

The property needs renovating
and I could do with a new loo.
All the windows need replacing,
the roof tiles are shaky too.

I spend winter sitting by the boiler,
it’s warm there when it gets cold.
I’ve a comfortable bed to sleep in
and memories to recall and hold.

Aches and pains I have like anyone,
but it does no good to complain.
Tittle-tattle I don’t have time for
and I don’t pull anyone’s chain.

I have no one to hug or love me
and no one to say goodnight,
but I do have a clear conscience
and with that I sleep alright.

Philosophically I try to look at life,
so I’m not shocked by what folk say.
Slanderous remarks I ignore with a smile,
as I happily get through my day.
