Quotes about shroud

Munition Maker

I am the Cannon King, behold!
I perish on a throne of gold.
With forest far and turret high,
Renowned and rajah-rich am I.
My father was, and his before,
With wealth we owe to war on war;
But let no potentate be proud . . .
There are no pockets in a shroud.

By nature I am mild and kind,
To gentleness and ruth inclined;
And though the pheasants over-run
My woods I will not touch a gun.
Yet while each monster that I forge
Thunders destruction form its gorge.
Death's whisper is, I vow, more loud . . .
There are no pockets in a shroud.

My time is short, my ships at sea
Already seem like ghosts to me;

Finding Loves Fool

Finding loves fool

loves fool you may be
but I stand in front of thee
a light covered in the shroud of lies
Where sorrow will not die

In the shroud of lies
will I be
So there look for me

If the lies should make you sorrow
Do not cry in fear of tomorrow
For I will find thee before
That marrow

And at that time
There will be no sorrow

Should your eyes still cry

Glenara

O, heard ye yon pibroch sound sad in the gale,
Where a band cometh slowly with weeping and wail?
'Tis the chief of Glenara laments for his dear;
And her sire and her people are called to her bier.

Glenara came first, with the mourners and shroud;
Her kinsmen they followed, but mourned not aloud;
Their plaids all their bosoms were folded around;
They marched all in silence, - they looked on the ground.

In silence they reached, over mountain and moor,
To a heath where the oak-tree grew lonely and hoar;
'Now here let us place the gray stone of her cairn; -
Why speak ye no word?' said Glenara the stern.

'And tell me, I charge ye, ye clan of my spouse,
Why fold ye your mantles, why cloud ye your brows?'
So spake the rude chieftain; no answer is made.
But each mantle, unfolding, a dagger displayed.

The Dance of Death

I.
Night and morning were at meeting
Over Waterloo;
Cocks had sung their earliest greeting;
Faint and low they crew,
For no paly beam yet shone
On the heights of Mount Saint John;
Tempest-clouds prolonged the sway
Of timeless darkness over day;
Whirlwind, thunder-clap, and shower
Marked it a predestined hour.
Broad and frequent through the night
Flashed the sheets of levin-light:
Muskets, glancing lightnings back,
Showed the dreary bivouac
Where the soldier lay,
Chill and stiff, and drenched with rain,
Wishing dawn of morn again,
Though death should come with day.

The Shroud Of Midnight

As the shroud of midnight falls
over sleeping garden walls
and the moon hides behind a cloud
the ghosts of lovers past lay bare
the tracks they used to follow.
Down leafy lanes and against trees
where they used to lean,
the summer evening vents scents
that fill the air with mystic perfume
to enthral the senses of anyone
who may pass there.
A cooling breeze follows
the shroud of midnight
as it gently touches everything
and the lives of present lovers
lay hidden and unseen
until the moon peeks
from behind the cloud
and brightens things a little
around the midnight shroud.

Motivation

MOTIVATION

Motivation springs mind’s trap, ensures
Advancement far above the 'madding crowd',
Unleashes energy long disallowed.
Desire’s warm fires spur inner surge to soar
Eager prepare to pluck fair future's store,
Clearly receives sense signals strong and loud -
Muted far too long. Thus, shed grey shroud,
Accept shared lovelight kindling sparkles for
Unlimited horizons hopes restore
Despite past pain chain many might have cowed.
Exit errors! Gift of grace endowed,
Contentment finds where two, apart, stayed poor.
Magic metamorphosis provides
Chance for choice, rejoicing will abide.

The Dance Of Death

THE warder looks down at the mid hour of night,
On the tombs that lie scatter'd below:
The moon fills the place with her silvery light,
And the churchyard like day seems to glow.

When see! first one grave, then another opes wide,
And women and men stepping forth are descried,
In cerements snow-white and trailing.

In haste for the sport soon their ankles they twitch,
And whirl round in dances so gay;
The young and the old, and the poor, and the rich,
But the cerements stand in their way;

And as modesty cannot avail them aught here,
They shake themselves all, and the shrouds soon appear
Scatter'd over the tombs in confusion.

Now waggles the leg, and now wriggles the thigh,
As the troop with strange gestures advance,

Autumn Squalls

I miss you! I miss you!
I miss you! Screams banshee wind!
Splatter spatter of rain gusted upon
frosted streaming window pane.
Nails drum strike homeless portal
blown battered stand tormented trees.

Weep wethered keening banshee wind
weep all-solemn ash-coloured shroud mist.
Fugitive. Flee. Rush On. Without Rest.
Forever searching forever transient
forever recalling memory achingly lost.
Sighing through winter woods haunting
is windblown soulless lost chilling call.

Try Try to hide. Hide.
Refuge! Never! Is place found!
To hide haunted heart within
affirmation entombed memory.
Like a beached soulless mariner

Part of an Irregular Fragment

I.

Rise, winds of night! relentless tempests, rise!
Rush from the troubled clouds, and o'er me roll!
In this chill pause a deeper horror lies,
A wilder fear appals my shudd'ring soul!--
'Twas on this day,* this hour accurst,
That Nature, starting from repose,
Heard the dire shrieks of murder burst--
From infant innocence they rose,--
And shook these solemn towers!
I shudd'ring pass that fatal room,
For ages wrapt in central gloom!--
I shudd'ring pass that iron door,
Which fate perchance unlocks no more;
Death, smear'd with blood, o'er the dark portal lowers!

II.

The Web

(derek disck/steve rothery/ pete trewavas/ micheal pointer/mark kelly/brian jellyman)
The rain auditions at my window
Its symphony echoes in my womb
My gaze scans the walls of this apartment
To rectify the confines of my tomb
Im the cyclops in the tenement
Im the soul without the cause
Crying midst my rubber plants, ignoring beckoning doors
Clippings from ancient newspapers lie scattered cross the floor
Stained by the wine from a shattered glass
Meaningless words
Yellowed by time
Faded photos exposing pain
Celluloid leeches bleeding my mind
Christ, youve finished playing hangman
Youve cast the fateful dice
Advice, advice, advice me, this shroud will not suffice
And thus begins the web
Attempting to discard these clinging memories
I only serve to wallow in our past
