The first sin
Of this amazing man
Is his unconditional love for the American People,
The second, he saw the movie: Color Purple;
Help me count, he dared to dream and to hope,
He stayed away from booze and dope.
Black men were born to fail,
To linger, and to rot in jail;
This is unfortunately the popular belief
That Blacks should not be aspired to be chief
Executive Officer, Senator or President.
Brother Obama, who is not arrogant,
Proved the pelicans wrong;
They ought to change the tone of the old song.
They must allow the debt ceiling to be risen,
Other wise all of us will be facing a bad season.
It is business as usual; the rich will get richer,
And of course, the poor will be poorer.
Black men are strong
Mentally, physically,

The Cycle

The clapping blackness of the wings of pointed cormorants,
the great indolent planes
Of autumn pelicans nine or a dozen strung shorelong,
But chiefly the gulls, the cloud-caligraphers of windy spirals
before a storm,
Cruise north and south over the sea-rocks and over
That bluish enormous opal; very lately these alone, these and the
clouds
And westering lights of heaven, crossed it; but then
A hull with standing canvas crept about Point Lobos . . . now
all day long the steamers
Smudge the opal's rim; often a seaplane troubles
The sea-wind with its throbbing heart. These will increase, the
others diminish; and later
These will diminish; our Pacific has pastured
The Mediterranean torch and passed it west across the fountains
of the morning;
And the following desolation that feeds on Crete
Feed here; the clapping blackness of the wings of pointed cormorants,
the great sails

Florida

The state with the prettiest name,
the state that floats in brackish water,
held together by mangrave roots
that bear while living oysters in clusters,
and when dead strew white swamps with skeletons,
dotted as if bombarded, with green hummocks
like ancient cannon-balls sprouting grass.
The state full of long S-shaped birds, blue and white,
and unseen hysterical birds who rush up the scale
every time in a tantrum.
Tanagers embarrassed by their flashiness,
and pelicans whose delight it is to clown;
who coast for fun on the strong tidal currents
in and out among the mangrove islands
and stand on the sand-bars drying their damp gold wings
on sun-lit evenings.
Enormous turtles, helpless and mild,
die and leave their barnacled shells on the beaches,
and their large white skulls with round eye-sockets
twice the size of a man's.

The Pelican Chorus

King and Queen of the Pelicans we;
No other Birds so grand we see!
None but we have feet like fins!
With lovely leathery throats and chins!
Ploffskin, Pluffskin, Pelican jee!
We think no birds so happy as we!
Plumpskin, Ploshkin, Pelican jill!
We think so then, and we thought so still!

We live on the Nile. The Nile we love.
By night we sleep on the cliffs above.
By day we fish, and at eve we stand
On long bare islands of yellow sand.
And when the sun sinks slowly down
And the great rock walls grow dark and brown,
Where the purple river rolls fast and dim
And the ivory Ibis starlike skim,

Mirror Ravaged

I was deeply annoyed.
One by one they were falling,
walking in quagmire.

For duplicating rights?
Dead pelicans, pouch empty.
Somebody was picking ants from the air.

Give me some cold pack,
my head is throbbing hot,
I am burning.

Nine year old innocent
raped by a septuagenarian.
A twin pregnancy. I will go insane.

They were still talking about
the golden beach, and perfected will.
Too late to count the gods.

With the Polar Bears

About to become extinct,
My hand hurts,
I go to the beach-
Far north of here,
In lieu of the heron and pelicans I watch,
My brethren are about to hurt
More than I:
They are about to go away,
Lost forever in the cold waters,
Into the tides where
Even today
I stand and shed my tears,
Filling up that much more
Of the sea.

Those bears are just like me:
All they want is unchanging
Everything, a niche,
A barter,
And a steady course
