Quotes about omul din umbră

Penumbral Grace

partial shadow
between regions of full shadow
(the umbra)

umba! umba! umba!
umba! umba! umba!

and full illumination,
cast by Earth,
the Moon,
during an eclipse.

caramba! caramba! caramba!

partial lunar eclipse,
a portion of the Moon's disk
remaining within the
penumbra of Earth's shadow

Gunga Din

You may talk o' gin and beer
When you're quartered safe out 'ere,
An' you're sent to penny-fights an' Aldershot it;
But when it comes to slaughter
You will do your work on water,
An' you'll lick the bloomin' boots of 'im that's got it.
Now in Injia's sunny clime,
Where I used to spend my time
A-servin' of 'Er Majesty the Queen,
Of all them blackfaced crew
The finest man I knew
Was our regimental bhisti, Gunga Din.
He was "Din! Din! Din!
You limpin' lump o' brick-dust, Gunga Din!
Hi! slippery ~hitherao~!
Water, get it! ~Panee lao~! [Bring water swiftly.]
You squidgy-nosed old idol, Gunga Din."

The uniform 'e wore
Was nothin' much before,

A Little Mermaid (Fun Poem 81)

For Meggie who suggested I write this.

Deep in the oceans
where the little fishes play
there lives a little mermaid
and her name is Haveagayday.
She is not sure how she got her name,
but it is her name no less,
it might have been her mother
who helped a fisherman in distress.

One day Haveagayday was playing
with her friend a little merman named Gunga Din.
While they played Bubbles, a moaning Clam
came floating by on his way.
He stopped for a moan
that could never be alone.
He said he couldn’t find a soft spot of sand to bury himself in.

Now Haveagayday and Gunga Din suggested

La Parranda

This song blends a high energy array of grooves such as colobian "chande" with venezuelen "tambores" and an insidious rythmic pattern from a typical snare drum section there
Sudden appearance of "bata" drums along with a happy trumpet solo, and choruses that explode into a thick unison of voices resembling a big party.
This is a "party" song, where everything is magical, happy, and exhiliarating. it says "this night is far from being over, we are going to have fun until the sun comes up".
Van llegando
They are arriving
La fiesta va a comenzar
The party is about to begin
Esta noche la parranda
Tonight is the big party
No tiene como acabar
It has no end
Ya se escuchan
Now they are listening to
Las notas
The notes
Del acordeon
Of the accordian
Of flutes that love the beating of the drum

Faa kjendte Dig paa denne store Jord,
Dog i Din Død Du nævnes skal i Nord;
Jeg i Avisen vil et Grav-Vers sætte,
Saa Taarer skal de Skjønnes Kinder tvætte.
Først var Du Leer, nu bliver Du det atter;
Du havde vundet ved hans Skaber-Aand;
Som Vase skulde Du da Øiet gotte;
Men Skjæbnen bød, — Du blev en Jydepotte.
Dit Liv svandt hen saa stille, indgetogen;

October

'- Du har ei Ro, ei Smerte
Tomt er der i dit Hjerte;
Saa døsigt Taagen ligger
Rundt om det visne Krat! -.'
*
Storken er reist til fremmed' Land, Spurven boer i dens Rede;
Løvet falder, men Bærret staaer rødt paa den sorte Hede.
Taagen ligger saa kold og klam, Vedet fældes i Skoven,
Draaben falder saa kold og tung ned fra Træernes Grene;
Tomhed breder sig meer og meer, her er ei Fryd, ei Smerte;
Livstomt staaer den stolte Naturs svulmende Digterhjerte.

Marts

'Livets Frihed, Jordens Baand,
Kamp imellem Form og Aand.'

*
Mægtigt Vaarens Pulse banke,
Dog er det saa kold en Tid;
See, imellem Form og Tanke
Viser sig den store Strid;
Aaret giver i det Mindre,
Hvad i Secler Verden gav,
Hvad du seer, hvor Stjerner tindre,
Og i Oldtids sjunkne Grav,
Livets Frihed, Jordens Baand,
Kamp imellem Form og Aand.
*
Jorden.
Ton høit i Tidens Kamp mit stolte Qvad!
En Verden være mig mit Nodeblad,
Urbjergene, som dybt grundfæsted' staae,
De er' de sorte Streger, sat' derpaa,

In Effigiem Oliveri Cromwell

Haec est quae toties Inimicos Umbra fugavit,
At sub qua Cives Otia lenta terunt.
In eandem Reginae Sueciae transmissam
Bellipotens Virgo, septem Regina Trionum.
Christina, Arctoi lucida stella Poli;
Cernis quas merui dura sub Casside Rugas;
Sicque Senex Armis impiger Ora fero;
Invia Fatorum dum per Vestigia nitor,
Exequor & Populi fortia Jussa Manu.
At tibi submittit frontem reverentior Umbra,
Nec sunt hi Vultus Regibus usque truces.

A Little Merman (Fun Poem 51)

Just beyond the reef
where the little fishes swim
there lives a little merman
and his name is Gunga Din.
He frolics in the ocean
from morning to night,
playing with the mermaids
is his hearts delight.

One day while playing
on the ocean floor
Gunga din found a bottle
with a Genie trapped within.
He opened the bottle
and set the Genie free.
The Genie then said to him.
“Three wishes I now grant to thee.”

“Three wishes? What are those? ”
Gunga Din asked the Genie.
