One night, while others were abed,
With weary eyes and aching head,
I pored for hours and hours upon a map,
Till dots and lines began to swim.
'Suggested routes' grew blurred and dim,
And then, I think, I must have had a nap.

But, with a start,it seemed to me,
I sat boolt upright suddenly,
And gazed, with staring eyes, before me straight;
For there, upon my inkwell's brim,
With aspect most grotesque and grim,
Methought a large, fat, hairy spider sate.

And Drove Straight On

The sign on the roadside said,
detour here to find love.
Beside it was an advertisement
for the latest Frankenstein film.
The romantic mood of Dr Frank
just around the corner.
I ignored the detour
and drove straight on.

Detour

Sometimes we take a detour
off the well trodden path,
it leads us to a place
that we never wanted to go,
but when we get there,
the place isn’t as bad,
as we expected it to be,
and of the detour we think
we should have taken it before.

If Love Is Strong

We always take a detour
when there is a rocky road ahead,
but with love you never know
when it is right to take a detour.
You have to wade through
every coming storm,
hoping everything will turn out right.

If love is strong,
the storm will be a small squall,
with calmer waters
on the other side.
While you are in it
be prepared for a rough ride
until the storm recedes,
and peace is restored once more.

Rain Showers

It’s funny how
Two hearts in love
Aren’t bothered by much
Not only a little rain
Will ever detour them

Continuously walking
As the little drops fall
Soaked but that don’t stop
Running in puddles, splashing
Not giving a care in the world

After a too short while
The rain stalls and ends
As if they just swam
They walk to an open area
And begin to slowly dance

As they hold the clouds fade
A warm sun ray

My Cheeks Do Not Turn

Returning back what I get,
Seems to offend the ones...
Who possess selective memories kept,
In their archives of thoughtless actions.
To conveniently forget as is often done,
By those who have a knack...
To excuse everything they do,
On the dysfunctions of their childhood.
And this 'defect' is fed to THEIR children,
To accept as a custom as a family heirloom given.

You do me...
You will get done!
That's it!
I apologize for the detour.
But that's how it is.

And always there is a parent to blame,
Who either smothered them with strictness...
Or did not supply them with enough love.

Detour

Where would they have gone
If they had not driven off that day
Down the Redwood Highway

As far as where, until that morning,
The two southbound lanes
Had been supported by a bridge?

There were no 'DETOUR AHEAD' signs
Except for the slight shaking and
The rhythmic rocking of their car.

'What's that? she asked.
'I think we're getting a flat, '

Had stopped seeing
