Quotes about cord

A Dialogue Betwixt Cordanus And Amoret, On A Lost Heart

Cord. Distressed pilgrim, whose dark clouded eyes
Speak thee a martyr to love's cruelties,
Whither away?
Amor. What pitying voice I hear,
Calls back my flying steps?
Cord. Pr'ythee, draw near.
Amor. I shall but say, kind swain, what doth become
Of a lost heart, ere to Elysium
It wounded walks?
Cord. First, it does freely flye
Into the pleasures of a lover's eye;
But, once condemn'd to scorn, it fetter'd lies,
An ever-bowing slave to tyrannies.
Amor. I pity its sad fate, since its offence
Was but for love. Can tears recall it thence?
Cord. O no, such tears, as do for pity call,
She proudly scorns, and glories at their fall.
Amor. Since neither sighs nor tears, kind shepherd, tell,
Will not a kiss prevail?
Cord. Thou may'st as well

XI. Guido

You are the Cardinal Acciaiuoli, and you,
Abate Panciatichi—two good Tuscan names:
Acciaiuoli—ah, your ancestor it was
Built the huge battlemented convent-block
Over the little forky flashing Greve
That takes the quick turn at the foot o' the hill
Just as one first sees Florence: oh those days!
'T is Ema, though, the other rivulet,
The one-arched brown brick bridge yawns over,—yes,
Gallop and go five minutes, and you gain
The Roman Gate from where the Ema's bridged:
Kingfishers fly there: how I see the bend
O'erturreted by Certosa which he built,
That Senescal (we styled him) of your House!
I do adjure you, help me, Sirs! My blood
Comes from as far a source: ought it to end
This way, by leakage through their scaffold-planks
Into Rome's sink where her red refuse runs?
Sirs, I beseech you by blood-sympathy,
If there be any vile experiment

Promise

Those words strike a cord,
a cord so true.
A cord so familiar,
it sounds so much like you.

Did I leave you behind,
I can't really tell.
For in this landscape,
there is no more wishing well.

A good thing or bad,
let time unveil itself,
Hopefully in time, I stand before you,
as a person of wealth.

Sonnet: God Keeps Me Safe

Thy ‘tethered animal’ I am, O God,
To Thy divine lamp-post, I have been tied!
Thine cord of Love binds me with Thee, O God,
In Thine meadow I graze: In Thee abide.

Thine cord of Love is not one of bondage!
It gives me enough freedom that I need;
Let it become stronger, thicker with age;
On just the grass you show, let me but feed.

Let me not break Thine cord and run away;
Let me not jump over the fence in haste;
Let me be satisfied with life each day,
And never bolt to alien land to waste.

Within Thy shelter, I am safe, O Lord;
And let me eat and live as per Thy Code.

Pantomime – Red Skelton and His Cat

The old man comes cautiously down
The stairs to the kitchen.
He takes the last step
That isn't there -
A bone shuddering stop.

Pausing, he searches the dark room
For the dangling light cord,
And moves toward
The center of the room -
Carefully.

It's unfortunate as the cat
Is discovered sitting in the middle of the floor.
As the old man steps on its tail,
It howls it great pain -
Startling the old man.

Finally, after groping the empty air,
He finds the cord.

Anchor

As a baby
I was fastened to mother’s belly
As I float in her amniotic fluids
Through an uncut umbilical cord,

I kept that
In my navel forever, perhaps,

As times pass by, as I begin living a life
Of my own, in work, in love,
In circles of my daily undertakings & means,
I anchor myself to some ideals
Like
Being clean, and honest, and

Having integrity, principles,
Sort of another set of umbilical cord,

Though in different conceptions,
A figurative sense of the word

The Human Sacrifice

I.
FAR from his close and noisome cell,
By grassy lane and sunny stream,
Blown clover field and strawberry dell,
And green and meadow freshness, fell
The footsteps of his dream.
Again from careless feet the dew
Of summer's misty morn he shook;
Again with merry heart he threw
His light line in the rippling brook.
Back crowded all his school-day joys;
He urged the ball and quoit again,
And heard the shout of laughing boys
Come ringing down the walnut glen.
Again he felt the western breeze,
With scent of flowers and crisping hay;
And down again through wind-stirred trees
He saw the quivering sunlight play.
An angel in home's vine-hung door,
He saw his sister smile once more;

Caroline

Written by lindsey buckingham.
Shes so crazy
Shes so lazy
Keeps on coming
Keeps you running
Caroline
Caroline
Time recedes with a fatal drop
Dusty fury on the mountain top
Cut the cord if you can
Caroline
Caroline
So attractive
So reactive
Caroline

Lockdown

Live face, live wars
Live final fallen shore.
Wise up down play.
Locked spine.
The spirits rule, lies down
Rip the cord, spent with the dead.
Lockdown.
Lockdown.
Life's pace. Crowds boss.
View the scum you'll cross.
We're burned in, we're burned out.
We're burned on the fire.
Relax, lie down.
Beg to a different crown.
Wise up, down play.
Locked spine.
The spirits rule, lies down
Rip the cord, spent with the dead.
Live face, live wars
Live final fallen shore.

Lonely Soul

Richard ashcroft :
God knows youre lonely souls
God knows youre lonely souls
God knows youre lonely souls
Yeah, yeah
I believe theres a time and a place
To let your mind drift and get out of this place
I believe theres a day and a place
That we will go to, and I know you wanna share.
Theres no secret to living (theres no secret to living)
Just keep on walking
Theres no secret to dying (theres no secret to dying)
Just keep on flying.
Im gonna die in a place that dont know my name
Im gonna die in a space that dont hold my fame.
God knows youre lonely souls
God knows youre lonely souls.
I believe theres a time when the cord of life
Should be cut, my friends (cut the cord, my friend)
I believe theres a time when the cord can be cut
