Quotes about colleague

Shrinking (Revised)

Why does a conversational ploy that charms
one colleague fall flat on its face for others?

When I enact a little tragi-comedy for Hanlie
she embroiders the tales I tell, brings out the

hidden glitter in every situation and adds joy
by weaving her wan spell -

but when I share the same anecdote with
other colleagues my story loses its appeal,

I feel guilt and fatigue, and the story shrivels
up and dies; a more robust, feisty colleague

simply kills the story by pulling down corners
of her mouth -

thus, with Hanlie on leave, I already know
why life at work keeps shrinking

Amazing Audacity (Revised)

Our recalcitrant colleague,
esteemed Mme Pompadour,
solved problem of being at
the office, Monday she said
booked off till today - called,
feels nauseous, can't come
in - why when she's already
arranged to stay away?

Difficult to make up sick leave
on the go, keep track what was
said when, ad hoc improvisation
on the spot - maybe she should
develop ethical standards, more
consistency in stories; we feel so
sorry when her tales go awry

Though I am glad to say that
management seems happy
with whatever she does, making

Political: Africa’s Lodestar, Africans & Arabs; Koos, Zuma and I

Africa's Lodestar

Addis Ababa – a jamboree of festivity:
Presidents in jets, pledging their promises;
size of entourage, taste in wine on display,

Organization of African Unity losing Africa
fifty years, promoting poverty and blocking
development; returning home to beat up

Opponents, jail activists, harass journalists
Kenya’s Mwai Kibaki stealing December
election, stirring bloody conflict, Africa’s

Lodestar is lost, under a Sacred Principle
between Africa’s leaders in misplaced
solidarity, ignoring all evil by Africans on

Africans – destroying all in our continent…

The Last Survivor

YES! the vacant chairs tell sadly we are going, going fast,
And the thought comes strangely o'er me, who will live to be the last?
When the twentieth century's sunbeams climb the far-off eastern hill,
With his ninety winters burdened, will he greet the morning still?

Will he stand with Harvard's nurslings when they hear their mother's call
And the old and young are gathered in the many alcoved hall?
Will he answer to the summons when they range themselves in line
And the young mustachioed marshal calls out 'Class of '29 '?

Methinks I see the column as its lengthened ranks appear
In the sunshine of the morrow of the nineteen hundredth year;
Through the yard 't is creeping, winding, by the walls of dusky red,--
What shape is that which totters at the long procession's head?

Who knows this ancient graduate of fourscore years and ten,--
What place he held, what name he bore among the sons of men?
So speeds the curious question; its answer travels slow;
''T is the last of sixty classmates of seventy years ago.'

Be not vigilant of your mate.

I love my wife and desire my desk mate.
My wife loves me and desires my
colleague.
Unaware of the other’s this desire,
We lead a harmonious life. Be it so.

Dead Man Meeting

and so his colleague
died while attending a
meeting when he fell
asleep and did not
wake up since then...

he says he does not like
meetings and i presume
that he likes the
death portion?

God forbid.

Adissadel

A Mathematics teacher,
To the muse of numbers to reflect on your mind!
But i am like the activities of your lover;
And like your colleague called Adissadel,
For i have laid down my mat along side your path.
