Quotes about bribe

After Working Sixty Hours Again for What Reason

The best job I had was moving a stone
from one side of the road to the other.
This required a permit which required
a bribe. The bribe took all my salary.
Yet because I hadn’t finished the job
I had no salary, and to pay the bribe
I took a job moving the stone
the other way. Because the official
wanted his bribe, he gave me a permit
for the second job. When I pointed out
that the work would be best completed
if I did nothing, he complimented
my brain and wrote a letter
to my employer suggesting promotion
on stationery bearing the wings
of a raptor spread in flight
over a mountain smaller than the bird.
My boss, fearing my intelligence,
paid me to sleep on the sofa
and take lunch with the official

Roman Sentry

A soldier's curse is not the copper pay,
stationed here in this gods-forsaken place!
I'd bribe a centurion to leave today.

Anywhere! —lug my shield on the Appian Way
or guard the quarry slaves in rocky Thrace.
A soldier's curse is not the copper pay.

The land is weary, fit for thorns and clay.
The towns are crowded with a bearded race.
I'd bribe a centurion to leave today.

This hill is bald as a skull, cold and gray,
—and I left my woolen tunic back at base!
A soldier's curse is not the copper pay.

Sentry for rebels crucified today—
last year in Rome I won a chariot-race!
I'd bribe a centurion to leave today.

The Hind And The Panther, A Poem In Three Parts : Part III.

Much malice, mingled with a little wit,
Perhaps may censure this mysterious writ;
Because the muse has peopled Caledon
With panthers, bears, and wolves, and beasts unknown,
As if we were not stocked with monsters of our own.
Let Æsop answer, who has set to view
Such kinds as Greece and Phrygia never knew;
And Mother Hubbard, in her homely dress,
Has sharply blamed a British lioness;
That queen, whose feast the factious rabble keep,
Exposed obscenely naked, and asleep.
Led by those great examples, may not I
The wonted organs of their words supply?
If men transact like brutes, 'tis equal then
For brutes to claim the privilege of men.
Others our Hind of folly will indite,
To entertain a dangerous guest by night.
Let those remember, that she cannot die,
Till rolling time is lost in round eternity;
Nor need she fear the Panther, though untamed,

Graham Greene

I have often noticed that a bribe has that effect - it changes a relation. The man who offers a bribe gives away a little of his own importance; the bribe once accepted, he becomes the inferior, like a man who has paid for a woman.

Tale XVI

THE CONFIDANT.

Anna was young and lovely--in her eye
The glance of beauty, in her cheek the dye:
Her shape was slender, and her features small,
But graceful, easy, unaffected all:
The liveliest tints her youthful face disclosed;
There beauty sparkled, and there health reposed;
For the pure blood that flush'd that rosy cheek
Spoke what the heart forbade the tongue to speak,
And told the feelings of that heart as well,
Nay, with more candour than the tongue could tell.
Though this fair lass had with the wealthy dwelt,
Yet like the damsel of the cot she felt;
And, at the distant hint or dark surmise,
The blood into the mantling cheek would rise.
Now Anna's station frequent terrors wrought,
In one whose looks were with such meaning fraught,
For on a Lady, as an humble friend,
It was her painful office to attend.

Inaction

we are watching
few parent paying donation to get their
children admitted in reputed school and collages,
while some other spending money
for extra classes for high marks for their children.
same people giving bribe to get their son selected for high post
lot of money spend on their future
to recover this they will demand bribe.
crowed is gather in around injured person.
rule and regulation are violated and amended
for the selected few people.
certain people not reporting on duty in time.
few people not working just sitting idle.
majority of people buying, but without bill.
We are living in 21 century
We know this wrong, but we will not act.

Malaysiana - David or Goliath - The New Voice

dont bribe me with
special privileges
give that to the
weaklings, those who
dont quite believe
in themselves

for me
make me that
special person
i deserve to be
someone who can
walk through fire and
storms

someone to
take on the world
anyone, anyone
from anywhere
like a tough eagle

Bribe the Witches

put my poise the boundaries to stop, make it
seal to fuse my arrogant to dive within the limbo
of my heart, i am at a mess, as it looks back the
fear to hold the holiday of my lost

strangle my want; all are just a push of my
desire, and my appetite, likes to taste the sweet
honey tears of loneliness beyond the pedestal of
where i stand, at the close of the door in your
midst

all seems to bribe the devil wish, double each
gain to reach my endless lust of flesh, waving
every moment to remember where i fall, puzzle
the heart that shouts for joy

incense of holy water, splash my strength as
the spark of lighted candle knocks my devilish
act of a profane wish, lavish my satisfaction and
contentment of mercy of a smiling witches

Rich Tastes

Conviction notice
duly served today?
Another cost in poverty
left we learn we pay?

Owner daughter of Salat
Oil Company owner.
Land, property, factories...
count corpulent rest.
Spent five thousand alone
on single exquisite dress.

Destitution causes no heiress distress
estates are insured articles manifest.
Broken contract agreement
rewritten by ophidian woman’s greed,
stress mental torture plague less;
if for privileged privation families’ need.

Released—January, 1878

On the 5th of January,!878, three of the Irish political prisoners, who had been confined since!866, were set at liberty. The released men were received by their fellow-countrymen in London. 'They are well,' said the report, ' but they look prematurely old.'

THEY are free at last! They can face the sun;
Their hearts now throb with the world's pulsation;
Their prisons are open—their night is done;
'Tis England's mercy and reparation!

The years of their doom have slowly sped—
Their limbs are withered—their ties are riven;
Their children are scattered, their friends are dead—
But the prisons are open—the 'crime' forgiven.

God! what a threshold they stand upon:
The world has passed on while they were buried;
In the glare of the sun they walk alone
On the grass-grown track where the crowd has hurried.

Haggard and broken and seared with pain,
They seek the remembered friends and places:
