Quotes about Billie Elish

The Ballad Of The Leather Medal

Only a Leather Medal, hanging there on the wall,
Dingy and frayed and faded, dusty and worn and old;
Yet of my humble treasures I value it most of all,
And I wouldn't part with that medal if you gave me its weight in gold.

Read the inscription: For Valour - presented to Millie MacGee.
Ah! how in mem'ry it takes me back to the "auld lang syne,"
When Millie and I were sweethearts, and fair as a flower was she -
Yet little I dreamt that her bosom held the heart of heroine.

Listen! I'll tell you about it... An orphan was Millie MacGee,
Living with Billie her brother, under the Yukon sky,
Sam, her pa, was cremated in the winter of nineteen-three,
As duly and truly related by the pen of an author guy.

A cute little kid was Billie, solemn and silken of hair,
The image of Jackie Coogan in the days before movies could speak.
Devoted to him was Millie, with more than a mother's care,
And happy were they together in their cabin on Bunker Creek.

Millie And Billie

Billie I wonder why are we insane
Will we ever get better
Will we stay the same
Billie I'm worried

Millie don't worry
No one knows our pain
Being in love is crazy not alone that way
I know you're worried today

God made love crazy so he wouldn't feel alone
He was thinking of us he was thinking of us
God made love crazy so he wouldn't feel so alone

Billie my mind seems to wander
To events of a night long ago
Driving alone with our guilt well concealed
In the trunk of your '68 Olds

Millie our world's an asylum

Jehovah & All That Jazz

Hail to the shaman and his cardboard drum and the riffraff
Dancing in the sun
I sing for thee
Praise to the ugly and the dispossessed and the genius born of
The vipers nest
You have set me free
Hey, you cranks and you clowns with your heads hanging down
I bring good tidings to you
For all the talent that he has jehovah dont play jazz like the devil do
See the rose sprung from the heap of dung
The shafthorse hot and heavy hung shamelessly
Check the star dust oozing in the mud on it pilgrimage to flesh and blood
Now aint that you and me
Hey, you shakespeares in rags little heretics and hags
To thine own self be true
Well, he may be beautiful and king but jehovah he dont swing like the devil
Birdman, birdman, whats the word, man
Into the night we go
Billie, billie, knock me silly
Sing to me soft and low

Erykah Badu

I have the ability to sing with emotion and feeling, but if you say I sound like Billie Holiday, that's cool. Let's look at who Billie was: she was this person, this singer, this beautiful diva who could move the audience with the slightest gesture of her hand.

Billie Boy With Downs

Shocked with what the doctors had found
That their child was born with downs.
I recall when I was young, that
our neighbor had a son.
He was always different from me
But there was something that I could not see.
He was born with downs
But always laughing and joking around.

He had the strength of 2 or 3
Which was amazing to me.
We would always play “ Johnny on the pony”.
There was never anything about him that was phony.
All of us kids wanted him on our team
Because he would not fall and scream.
He could not run as fast as us
But in us he put his trust.
His brother Nicky told us that
He was born that way, and was always
Wanting to joke and play.

Names on War Memorials

Billy got a gun,
When he turned 18
Did two tours in Iraq
And got a purple heart for free
When he arrived home
The Mayor gave him a key
And said 'how proud' he was
'For serving God and country'

But Billy was an egg
With a brain now slightly fried
Watching marching bands
And the Batons on the lines
Searching for the danger
In the Cadillac landmines
The sparkles made him dread
All the fireworks of July

I Smelled Him In My Pillow

He wore a cologne that made my heart stop
like rain on a sunny day in a coming spring.
His voice was soothing,
mystical: Billie Holiday,
getting ready to sing.
I smelled him in my pillow the next night.
Hours after he left with hugs
that seemed to offer future promises.
His taste, his touch,
his gaze,
too untrustworthy for me to ever wallow in.
Alone, I still contemplated what could never be.
Lifestyles far too different; too complex,
But still refused to listen
or to see.
I knew it would end,
but still hoped to be the girl somehow written for the script.
Accepting false precisions,
I had given up on all fortitude,
essentially lost my grip.

I Love My Man

Billie holiday
I love my man
On my life i say i don't
I love my man
On my life i say i don't
But i'll quit my man
On my life i say i won't
I've been your slave baby
Ever since i've been your way
I've been your slave
Ever since i've been your faith
But before i be your dog
I'll see you in your grave
My man wouldn't give me no breakfast
Wouldn't give me no dinner
Squacked about my supper
Then he put me outdoors
Heaven erred to late
A matchbox on my clothes
I didn't have so many
