A Great Man's House

It was written in marble in golden letters:
here a great man lived and worked and died.
He laid the gravel for these paths personally.
This bench — do not touch — he chiseled by himself
out of stone.
And — careful, three steps — we're going inside.

He made it into the world at just the right time.
Everything that had to pass, passed in this house.
Not in a high rise,
not in square feet, furnished yet empty,
amidst unknown neighbors,
on some fifteenth floor,
where it's hard to drag school field trips.

In this room he pondered,
in this chamber he slept,
and over here he entertained guests.
Portraits, an armchair, a desk, a pipe, a globe, a flute,
a worn-out rug, a sun room.

Astraea: The Balance Of Illusions

WHAT secret charm, long whispering in mine ear,
Allures, attracts, compels, and chains me here,

I'm still a man for M 'lady Milica

I’m still a man though I grow old
I am no longer brave and bold.
I think before I chose to act.
I have to face up to the fact.
I have to do as I am told.

Inevitable conclusion

Inevitable.

All who are born will surely die.
Nobody can escape their fate
Be they of high or low estate.

We may not know the reason why.
Each one of us will have to wait.

This is a truth none can deny.
We must accept that soon or late
Our time will come Death will not wait.

When I was Young

When I was young and in my prime
I knew everything there was to know
I truly thought that this was so
but I discovered in due time
My knowledge wasn’t worth a dime
It’s true that it was long ago.
When I was young and in my prime
I knew all that there was to know.
Experience combined with time
reduced the size of my ego
Although progress was rather slow.
Arrogance was my greatest crime
when I was young and in my prime.
