The Philosopher

I have not heard a tiger who has killed another tiger
I have not heard a serpent killing another serpent
But a man kills another man
There man is different from another animal

If evolution Darwin style has at all taken place
Then it unconsciously explored diabolical values
Animated in man
It discovered modern states modern technology

Modern warfare and market Marxism and Nationalism
And the devils of men seldom fight for fightings sake
They fight either for democracy or for socialism
The philosopher of the devils

Whose head was full of a project of an international city
Where the richest men under the sun
Would excelsior to the sun belt of godliness
Being pent up in air conditioned houses

Wislawa Szymborska

A Great Man's House

It was written in marble in golden letters:
here a great man lived and worked and died.
He laid the gravel for these paths personally.
This bench — do not touch — he chiseled by himself
out of stone.
And — careful, three steps — we're going inside.

He made it into the world at just the right time.
Everything that had to pass, passed in this house.
Not in a high rise,
not in square feet, furnished yet empty,
amidst unknown neighbors,
on some fifteenth floor,
where it's hard to drag school field trips.

In this room he pondered,
in this chamber he slept,
and over here he entertained guests.
Portraits, an armchair, a desk, a pipe, a globe, a flute,
a worn-out rug, a sun room.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Quatrains

S. H.

With beams December planets dart
His cold eye truth and conduct scanned,
July was in his sunny heart,
October in his liberal hand.

A. H.

High was her heart, and yet was well inclined,
Her manners made of bounty well refined;
Far capitals, and marble courts, her eye still seemed to see,
Minstrels, and kings, and high-born dames, and of the best that be.

'SUUM CUIQUE.'

Wilt thou seal up the avenues of ill?
Pay every debt, as if God wrote the bill.

Astraea: The Balance Of Illusions

WHAT secret charm, long whispering in mine ear,
Allures, attracts, compels, and chains me here,
Where murmuring echoes call me to resign
Their sacred haunts to sweeter lips than mine;
Where silent pathways pierce the solemn shade,
In whose still depths my feet have never strayed;
Here, in the home where grateful children meet
And I, half alien, take the stranger's seat,
Doubting, yet hoping that the gift I bear
May keep its bloom in this unwonted air?
Hush, idle fancy, with thy needless art,
Speak from thy fountains, O my throbbing
heart!

Say, shall I trust these trembling lips to tell
The fireside tale that memory knows so well?
How, in the days of Freedom's dread campaign,
A home-bred schoolboy left his village plain,
Slow faring southward, till his wearied feet
Pressed the worn threshold of this fair retreat;

Mindset(Short Rondel)

It's my mindset to keep going
Like the tortoise won the racing
Being slow and steady throughout
Though slow I go steady devout
Running firm towards my target
It's my mindset

I'm proud never to lose my game
Unlike the hare that slept with shame
But to win focussed at my goal
To give my best of poetic role..
It's my mindset

I'm still a man for M 'lady Milica

I’m still a man though I grow old
I am no longer brave and bold.
I think before I chose to act.
I have to face up to the fact.
I have to do as I am told.
I’m still a man

The aches and pains that trouble me
all tend to sap my energy.
I cannot do what I used to
That’s matterless for in my view
I’m still a man,

Inevitable conclusion

Inevitable.

All who are born will surely die.
Nobody can escape their fate
Be they of high or low estate.

We may not know the reason why.
Each one of us will have to wait.
All who are born will surely die

This is a truth none can deny.
We must accept that soon or late
Our time will come Death will not wait.
All who are born will surely die.

When I was Young

When I was young and in my prime
I knew everything there was to know
I truly thought that this was so
but I discovered in due time
My knowledge wasn’t worth a dime
It’s true that it was long ago.
When I was young and in my prime
I knew all that there was to know.
Experience combined with time
reduced the size of my ego
Although progress was rather slow.
Arrogance was my greatest crime
when I was young and in my prime.
