Gravel On The Ground

(HuppMorrison)
If our lives could lie before us like a straight and narrow highway
so that we could see forever, long before we took the ride,
we would never look to heaven, make a wish or climb a mountain,
'cause we'd always know the answer what's on the other side.
But life ain't no easy freeway, just some gravel on the ground.
You pay for every mile you go to spread some dust around.
But we all have destinations, and the dust will settle down,
this life ain't no easy freeway, just some gravel on the ground.
So let's walk the road together, who knows what we'll find tomorrow.
Maybe good times, maybe sorrow will be waiting round the bend
Given time, two hearts discover what they're feeling for each other.
At the best we'll end up lovers, at the least we'll make a friend.
But life ain't no easy freeway, just some gravel on the ground.
You pay for every mile you go to spread some dust around.
But we all have destinations, and the dust will settle down,
But life ain't no easy freeway, just some gravel on the ground.
You pay for every mile you go to spread some dust around.
But we all have destinations, and the dust will settle down,
this life ain't no easy freeway, just some gravel on the ground.

We would never look to heaven
Mke a wish or climb a mountain
cause wed always know the answer
To whats on the other side

Who knows what well find tomorrow
Maybe good times maybe sorrow
Both are waitin round the bend
Given time two hearts discover
What theyre feelin for each other

Walk Your Own Road

Theres doers and donters and I wills and wontersd
And them, that dont even try
Givers and takers, movers and shakers
And them that are just passing by
Skidrows and winos and some folks that I know
That dont do like I think they should
I thought they were livin their lifes all wrong
Long, before I understood
We all have to walk our own road
We cant always go where were told
In the end where itll end up - the lord only knows
But we all have to walk our own road
Ive had some good times and Ive had a good life
And Ive had things goin my way
Ive walked the highground and treasures that Ive found
An women who brightened my day
Then there were times I was caught in the crosswinds
With life - goin round and around
Like a ship with no sail I was caught in a gale
Til I finly just ran it a-ground

Far Too Little I Know

I

Far too little I know about the things that lie between us,
I see the sea drawing back and rushing in,
I know too little to tell you about my love,
see your tracks disappearing over a sand dune.

I know too little to talk about a secret,
how one day can be so very special,
filled with life changing meaning,
about the things that I read in your eyes

but that that you really love me,
I know before the sea wipes our tracks away
when I kiss you and get you giggling,
while we give new steps into life

when you became the meaning in my small universe;
if you were the light falling through the window on me.

II

If you were the light falling through the window on me,
a star shining at night against the sky,
I would have been able to admire you, in days without end
but now thunder flashes down

whiter than daylight into my life
becoming part of my life,
to again jump to somewhere else
as if single moments are everything

and far too short was the time that you could stay,
with almost endless cheerfulness that you could bring
in this tough world as part of me,
where my heart could sing songs of joy

and far too little time I had invested in you,
how should I have known that I would make an oath with you?

III

How should I have know that I would make a oath with you
before I met you,
have a concept of such intimate feelings,
as with which you are part of my whole world?

How must I have know the meaning
of faith, love and hope
and about professing of true love
before our lives started together

on ways that I could not expect
and could learn to love
past events, years and times reaching to maybe,
that you are part of everything in me?

I want to love you as in days long past,
in the winter of my life.

IV

In the winter of my life
when all the trees around me stand skeleton,
with stripped branches shivering in the wind,
with sometimes a thunder bashing down

I sometimes remember the look in your sea-green eyes
where colours so secretly come together,
even when my body bend like branches, bended by age
as if in my thoughts they are looking forever at me,

it’s as if a new spring just have got to come,
as if your arms surround my neck,
with you flowering anew
as a angel of light

it’s sometimes as is you are with me,
when the morning starts with its first rays.

V

When the morning starts with its first rays,
with the sky changing from twilight grey to blue,
hang with the moon still hanging white
I am caught like a lizard

that prays to the sun,
where it’s rising white hot,
where I sit before your photograph
that shows every bit of your beauty,

but the nights and months past
while every day you look back
from that photograph
and I wonder if you still do love me?

and I think certainly, you are just as pretty,
when the sun throws its last rays over the trees.

VI

When the sun throws its last rays over the trees,
drawing shadows out long
before it reaches out
with long orange red rays

and the streetlights suddenly are awakening
give eyes to poles, becoming orange yellow
then I know
that you are somewhere else and just as pretty,

that you are laughing somewhere else,
caring after your children, doing your duties,
stretching yourself out for the night,
after kissing your children goodnight

and I am really longing while I am waiting,
I miss the way that you laugh in pleasure.

VII

I miss the way that you laugh in pleasure,
how you cry for a beautiful movie,
even expecting something good out of poor things,
how on a dark rainy night you shelter against me,

the way that you look at me,
the feelings that you bring to me,
as if youre green eyes shines like the sea,
with every word going into my depths

but time takes an own road
and destiny is without mercy,
where at a time we both had to go different directions
and still try to jump over horizons with words

and maybe I have to court you again anew,
far too little I know about the things that lie between us.

On The Road To Find Out

Well I left my happy home to see what I could find out
I left my folk and friends with the aim to clear my mind out
Well I hit the rowdy road and many kinds I met there
Many stories told me of the way to get there
So on and on I go, the seconds tick the time out
Theres so much left to know, and Im on the road to find out
Well in the end Ill know, but on the way I wonder
Through descending snow, and through the frost and thunder
Well, I listen to the wind come howl, telling me I have to hurry
I listen to the robins song saying not to worry
So on and on I go, the seconds tick the time out
Theres so much left to know, and Im on the road to findout
Then I found myself alone, hopin someone would miss me
Thinking about my home, and the last woman to kiss me, kiss me
But sometimes you have to moan when nothing seems to suit yer
But nevertheless you know youre locked towards the future
So on and on you go, the seconds tick the time out
Theres so much left to know, and Im on the road to findout
Then I found my head one day when I wasnt even trying
And here I have to say, cause there is no use in lying, lying
Yes the answer lies within, so why not take a look now?
Kick out the devils sin, pick up, pick up a good book now

This Is Going To Be A Long Ride

My observations are never premeditated.
With a plan to only accept that which I believe.
I experience a witnessing,
As a student willing to learn.
I take notes whether mental or written.
And free myself from regurgitating quotes,
To whisper into ears to then leave.

I'm not like that.

What I describe is viewed with my eyes.
And what I hear is seldom my own sentiments.
Although when I see something that should be clear,
But to others it is not as it appears...
I wonder when my delusions have ended.
And how many conscious aren't aware when they start.

I'm not like that either.

Could we all be confused,
And refuse to accept we've been abused and neglected...
By our own delusions?
Could we all be wishing what we witness isn't what it is.
To admit what is does exist without the benefit of our wishes?
Could my observations perceived as not being premeditated,
Be, in fact, a comforting of a trap...
My mind extends to enhance my comprehension?

Or...
Could I just be needing rest and have yet to confess,
I can use as much of it as I can get?

'Yes! '

I'm sorry.
I am having a personal self assessment.
Am I disturbing you?

'Yes.
I am hoping your 'self-assessment'...
Soon ends as to not to further prolong,
My 'already' too long bus ride.
But who knows...
Maybe I am confused AND deluded! '

I apologize.
I didn't realize I was speaking that loudly.

'No problem.
I do the same thing myself.
At home.
Alone.
When I'm seeking an intelligent conversation.'

Oh.
I agree with you.
This is going to be a long ride.

Maybe

The beautiful stars
That once had shone,
Were not here now
They were just gone.
The full moon that
I once cherished,
Has turned gloomy
With the grace vanished.
There are no birds
To come and sing,
To flap there wings.
And here I am
Unable to see your smile,
Knowing youre away
A thousand miles.
But
I’m still here
Amn’t I?
And in your distant life
I just can’t pry.
And who knows
Maybe tomorrow,
I might see
No more sorrow.
Maybe the stars
Will be shining,
The gloomy moon
Might be brightening.
The birds might sing
So happily,
And maybe
Just maybe
You will come back to me.

A Long Ride

driving along an open road
nowhere special to go
nothing but fields on my left and right
not another car in sight
the sun is shining bright
dont think i'll go home tonight
wind blowing thru my hair
i really dont care
got a cd on
all my thoughts are gone
i love a long ride
with or without anyone by my side
sometimes i'll come to a small town
stop for lunch and look around
and if im tired and its late
i'll stay the night my drive can wait
i'll meet new people there
hear the stories they like to share
then when i ready and done
i'm in my car and gone
probably never again to pass thru
my memories will have to do

Somewhere U. S. A.

Out on the road like a low-down joe
And the bar where we are is so cool Id like to stay
Misunderstood like I knew I would be
The one I care for dont mind, shes built that way
I would gladly offer you my love
In this hotel in somewhere u.s.a.
This rental car never went so far
But with each passing mile on more dream has turned to clay
Now that weve met and your eyes are all wet
Let me fetch my guitar, theres a song Id like to play
I would gladly offer you my song
In this hotel in somewhere u.s.a.
One never knows where the good times
If you got some to spend, well do anything you say
Id never lie, well you know Ive tried
Though you think its the drink that has made me behave this way
I would gladly offer you my love
In this hotel in somewhere u.s.a.

I Got To Find My Baby

I'm gonna search this town,
From door to door.
The love i crave
I can't find no more.
I got to find my baby,
I declare there ain't no lie.
I ain't had no real good loving
Since that woman said goodbye.
You know i hate to see the sun
Sinking to the west,
'cos i know my whole life's
Gonna be one solid mess.
I got to find my baby,
I declare there ain't no lie.
I ain't had no real good loving
Since that woman said goodbye.
Well ever since the day
That she said we were through,
I've been nervous
And shook up too.
I got to find my baby,
I declare there ain't no lie.
I had no real good loving
Since that woman said goodbye.
Well i don't care if the last thing
I ever do in my life,
Is to find that little woman
Make her my wife.
I got to find my baby,
I declare there ain't no lie.
I had no real good loving
Since that woman said goodbye.

Romance

You said you were through with romance
Why take a chance on anyone
Youre so beautiful too
I can tell by the way that you dance
They say that people dont change
Why rearrange the original
You do something to me
That my eyes cannot see at a glance
Signs of a new beginning
Signs of a life worth living
The better to forget than to be all that upset
Its the time to taste the wine
And maybe someday things will change
And come with in range and be laughable
Everything is okay
I can tell by the way that you dance
They say that people dont try
Thats just a lie, they work miracles
Its a gift from above
When we talk about love and romance
Signs of a new tomorrow
Signs of a life without sorrow
The better to forget than to be all that upset
Its the time to taste the wine
And maybe this time you will be
Romantic like me when Im with you
And I think you might say
I can tell by the way that you dance
They say that people dont change
Like home on the range, its original
You do something to me
That my eyes cannont see at a glance
You do something to me
When we talk about love and romance

‘The Weight’s too much For Me! ’ We say.

Many a time, we question God,
“Why should I suffer in these ways?
Will I not see some better days?
I wish I were dead than alive! ”

The weight’s too much for me! ’ we say.
The burden seems too heavy, God;
How longer must I walk this way?
Do I deserve this unfair rod? ’

Ev’n Moses tried to query God.
‘Why should I lead these people bad?
Is it my fate I should suffer?
Isn’t there any reprieve for me? ’

‘Why treat me in this mean way, God? ’
Please kill me outright, if You want;
I can’t bear this ignominy!
Am I to suffer for others?

The living God we know is fair;
He cares for us and loves us much;
He loves us more than we deserve;
He won’t permit trials galore!

God knows the human limits well;
God knows each one’s weaknesses too;
He does not test hearts overly;
God is a merciful Being!

Why fret and fume and question God?
Why murmur, grumble against God?
God doesn’t forsake nor abandon:
God knows the limits we can take!

‘O’er-burdened, come to me for rest! ’
-Lord Jesus Christ tells us often.
Trust in the Lord. Things will be fine;
Nothing’s impossible for God!

Trans-island Skyway

I was born yesterday
When they brought my kamakiri
When they handed me the keys
Its a steam-power 10
The frame is out of glasgow
The tech is balinese
Its not a freeway bullet
Or a bug with monster wheels
Its a total biosphere
The farm in the back
Is hydroponic
Good, fresh things
Every day of the year
Good, fresh things
Every day of the year
With all screens and functions
In sync lock with tripstar
This cool rolling bubble
Is all set to samba
This route could be trouble
(this route could be trouble)
Chorus:
Steamin up
That trans-island skyway
Tryin to make that final deadline
And if the lanes are clear
Were gonna drive a little harder
Well be deep in the zone by cryin time
Say, theres a wreck
On the side of the road
Lots of blood and broken glass
The kid who was driving
I know from somewhere
Some kids just drive too fast
Wait just a minute
Theres a beautiful survivor
With dancers legs and laughing eyes
Cmon snakehips, its all over now
Strap in tight cause its a long sweet ride
Relax - put some sounds on
Ill brew up some decaf
Cmon kick off those heels maam
Now breathe in and sigh out
Lets get with the program
(lets talk about the good times)
Chorus
We reach the sprangle
Just at dawn
These little streets I used to know
Is that my father
Mowin the lawn
(cmon daddy get in lets go)
Cmon daddy get in lets go
Cmon daddy get in lets go
Cmon daddy get in lets go
Cmon daddy get in lets go
Cmon daddy get in lets go
Cmon daddy get in lets go
We pull into five zoos
Past motels and drive-thrus
That noon sun is blinding
The tidepools are boiling
Below plates are grinding
(lets talk about the good times)
Chorus

Ballad Of Spider John

Ballad of spider john
By: willis a. ramsey
1974
Spider john is my name friend
Im in between freights and I sure would be obliged
If youd share your company
I know this may sound strange to you
But if you wait till the song is sung and the story is told
You might come to understand
Oh, Im old and bent and devil sent, runnin out of time
When I long ago held a royal flush in my hand
Chorus:
Oh, I was a supermarket fool
I was a motor bank stool-pidgeon, robbin my hometown
I thought I lost my blues, yes I thought I paid my dues
I thought Id found a life to suit my style
But here I sit old spider john the robber-man
Long, tall, and handsome
Yes, old spider john with a loaded hand, takin ransom
Then one day I met diamond lill
She was the sweetest thing, I declare
That the summer breeze had ever blown my way
But lilly she had no idea, of my illustrious occupation
She thought I was a saint, not a sinner, gone astray
But you see that the word got around and lilly left town
Never saw her again
Tossin and turnin, causin my heart to grieve
That is all my story
Its been these thirty years since I took to the road
To find my precious jewel one
And if you see my lilly, wont you give her my regards
Tell her ole spider got tangled in the black web that he spun
You can tell her ole spider got tangled the black web that he spun

The Acorn

The seed has started,—who can stay it? see,
The leaves are sprouting high above the ground;
Already o'er the flowers, its head; the tree
That rose beside it and that on it frowned,
Behold! is but a small bush by its side.
Still on! it cannot stop; its branches spread;
It looks o'er all the earth in giant pride.
The nations find upon its limbs their bread,
Its boughs their millions shelter from the heat,
Beneath its shade see kindreds, tongues, and all
That the wide world contains, they all retreat
Beneath the shelter of that acorn small
That late thou flung away; 'twas the best gift
That heaven e'er gave;—its head the low shall lift.

A Weird Little Person (Revised)

A weird little person with a mission to be
extrovertly extravagant - oh, so that's who
I am! I'm intrigued, I had always thought I
was supposed to be a self-pitying introvert

Yet you see me trying to be a recluse of fate
and divest me of my carefully constructed
illusions; such frank and open honesty, it
delights and amuses -

I always end up with goofballs, men of good
sense don't waste time talking to me, either
I'm totally ugly or my incomprehensibly
icy stare puts them off -

I may resemble Miss Marple, or worse due
to my masculine self-esteem, Hercule Poirot
with walrus moustaches, I have none on my
face as yet - but what of tomorrow...

Find a good person..

Don't strike that pose, that hurts any feeble heart,
Hunch with drops of tears make the cheek dirt,
Wipe the dirt, that saddens your young soul,
Betrayal is not new and struck with that tool,
Heart bleeds from the wounded thoughts,
Woven out of love, hope and trust,
Betrayed you are, it is not the end,
Just the beginning to stop the errand,
Understand that the lust of the bodies,
On the floor of the stomach, butterflies,
Don't think this is love and everlasting love,
Love should be cultivated with tender care,
Where two hearts unite for now and ever,
Stop crying over the brute that left you,
As a human, you deserve to have another human.
Don't strike the pose,
That shows your weakness,
Be brave to face this cruel world,
Where you still find a good soul.

Steady As We Go

I walk half way around the world
Just to sit down by your side
And I would do most anything girl
To be the apple of your eye
But troubles they may come and go
But good times never grow old
Or if the road gets rocky girl
Just steady as we go
Anyplace you want to go
You know Ill be next to you
If its treasure baby youre looking for
Ill search the whole world through
You know troubles they may come and go
But good times never grow old
So if the road gets rocky girl
Just steady as we go
When the storm comes you shelter me
When I dont say a word
And you know exactly what I mean
In the darkest times shine on me
Set me free
And keep me steady as we go
So if your heart rings dry my love
I will fill your cup
And if your load gets heavy girl
I will lift you up
But troubles they may come and go
But good times be the gold
So if the road gets rocky girl
Just steady as we go

Walking Slow

Walking slow down the avenue
Through my old neighborhood
Dont know why Im happy
Ive got no reason to feel this good
Maybe its because Im all alone
And Ive got no place to go
And everywhere I look I see
Another person Ill never know
I got a thing or two to say
Before I walk on by
Im feeling good today
But if die a little farther along
Im trusting everyone to carry on
Pretty little girl--
Running up and down the street with no shoes on
I got a pretty little girl of my own at home
Sometimes we forget we love each other
And we fight for no reason
I dont know what Ill do if she ever leaves me alone
I got a thing or two to say
Before I walk on by
Im feelin good today
But if I die a little farther along
Im trustin everyone to carry on
Im puttin down my left foot
Im puttin down my right foot
I got a thing or two to say
Before I walk on by
Im feelin good today
But if I die a little father along
Im trusting everyone to carry on

The Book Of Numbers

These cheque book eyes that peer on out
With fifty four long years in train
Would beg the question, steeped in doubt:
‘Are balances brought home the same? ’

Are books of columns kept somewhere
With costs and profits to each name,
Does some laborious clerk inscribe
Each fall from grace, each cry of pain?

And is there some huge reference book,
A million pages long that gives
A code to score each passing thought,
To digitise each man that lives?

A ten for love that long survives
Its primal urge, a minus four
For each divorce, and minus three
For every child brought down, of course.

And how would grief be costed out?
A point for every tear or sigh,
Or nine to cover hearts of lead
That freeze in pain, but cannot cry.

For hope, ambition, faith and need
Are these the same for every man,
Or do the rich regain the creed
While poor men spill their lives like sand.

These cheque book eyes that peer on out
With fifty four long years in train
Appraise the wreckage of my life:
‘Are balances brought home the same? ’

Heartache

(orbison/dees)
1968 version
Tonight at midnight you came by
I shook my head, tried not to cry
Halfway weeping, halfway sleeping
Tossing, turning, trembling, burning
Here it comes, heartache
You wore your hair down
I love it that way
You reached out and touched me
And then you faded away
Its unreal, the way I feel
Its almost dawn and you are gone
Here it comes, heartache
Heartache of heartache
Deeper than blue
Teardrop on teardrop
Im still in love with you
What a way to start a day
Here it comes, heartache over you
Heartache for you
Everytime you walk through my mind
I get that old heartache
1974 version
At night I try not to cry
Each tomorrow brings more sorrow
All the time youre on my mind
My heart just aches, it almost breaks
Its almost dawn, heartache
I know its over
But I dont know why
You reached out and touched me
And then you said goodbye
Oh its unreal, the way I feel
Its almost dawn the nights too long
My dream is gone
Im all alone with heartache
Heartache of heartache
Deeper than blue
Teardrop on teardrop
Im still in love with you
Oh, what a way to start a day
Heartaches today like yesterday
Here comes the sun
No place to run from heart
