Ive Been Wrong Before

The night we met
The night that I wont forget
Youve seen what Ive been waiting for
But baby, Ive been wrong before
You held me tight
And everything seemed just right
I couldnt ask for more
But baby, Ive been wrong before
She used to smile at me
And hold my hand like you do
Then she left me
And broke my heart in two
See her face
And feel your warm embrace
Youre all that I adore
But baby, Ive been wrong before
Oh baby, Ive been wrong before

The Night That My Angel Cried

I remember the night that my angel cried
So much
Because of the bad weather
That stopped him from going out
To rescue a woman that was buried in the snow

Out Of The Night That Covers Me

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

The Night That Tito Played

It was a hot night
The crowd was hangin' in the neighborhood
Everybody there was lookin' so cool
Everyone was feelin' so good
Now, mister puente
They said he'd be here by ten-thirty
Said he was comin' back to his roots again
To finds some old friends
The night that Tito played
My life forever changed
I felt my heart and soul come alive
I felt it all
Movin' and swayin' under the moon
Prayin' to the rhythm of a puente tune
The night that Tito played
Nothin' was ever the same
There was Romona
She came uptown from corona
Right there on the stairway of the subway train
We danced real slow
(she was heaven to know)
She whispered secrets
The way she kissed me it was perfect
We held on in the shadows of the city lights
Oh, it felt so right
The night that Tito played
My life forever changed
I felt my heart and soul come alive
I felt it all
Movin' and swayin' under the moon
Prayin' to the rhythm of a puente tune
The night that Tito played
Nothin' was ever the same
The night that Tito played
My life forever changed
I felt my heart and soul come alive
I felt it all
Movin' and swayin' under the moon
Prayin' to the rhythm of a puente tune
The night that Tito played
Nothin' would ever be the same

The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia

(bobby russell)
He was on his way home from candletop
Been two weeks gone and he thought hed stop
At webs and have him a drink for he went home to her
Andy wo-lo said hello
He said hi whats a doing
Wo said sit down I got some bad news thats gonna hurt
Said Im your best friend and you know thats right
But your young bride aint home tonight
Since you been gone shes been seeing that amos boy seth
He got mad and he saw red
Andy said boy dont you lose your head
Cause to tell you the truth Ive been with her myself
Chorus:
Thats the night the lights went out in georgia
Thats the night that they hung an innocent man
Dont trust your soul to no back woods southern lawyer
Cause the judge in the towns got bloodstains on his hand
Andy got scared and left the bar
Walking on home cause he didnt live far you see
Andy didnt have many friends and he just lost him one
Brother thought his wife mustve left town
So he went home and finally found the only thing
Daddy had left him and that was a gun
He went off to andys house
Slipping through the back woods quiet as a mouse
Came upon some tracks too small for andy to make
He looked through the screen at the back porch door
He saw andy lying on the floor
In a puddle of blood and he started to shake
The georgia patrol was making their rounds
So he fired a shot just to flag em down
And a big bellied sheriff grabbed his gun and said
Whyd you do it?
The judge said guilty in a make believe trial
Slapped the sherrif on the back with a smile and said
Suppers waiting at home and I got to get to it
Chorus
They hung my brother before I could say
The tracks he saw while on his way
To andys house and back that night were mine
And his cheatin wife had never left town
And thats one body thatll be found
You see little sister dont miss when she aims her gun
Repeat chorus twice

Cryin Through The Night

Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and I dont know why
Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and Im so dissatisfied
cause Ive been cryin through the night
Tears on my pillow
And I have been cryin through the night
Weeping like a weeping pillow
From cryin through the night
Hear me cryin through the night
I am lonely, downhearted and sad
cause Ive lost the best woman that I ever had
To a fiend of mine
Just cant figure out how it could be
That somebody like him could take her away from me
And its on my mind
Nearly all the time
Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and I dont know why
Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and Im so dissatisfied
cause Ive been cryin through the night
Tears on my pillow
And I have been cryin through the night
Weeping like a weeping pillow
From cryin through the night
Hear me cryin through the night
Now I know just how best friends can be
cause he made sure you knew your best was with me
And its on my mind
Heres a lesson much greater than wealth
Keep your business to you, yourself and no one else
And your smiling eyes
Wont be cryin like mine
Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and I dont know why
Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and Im so dissatisfied
cause Ive been cryin through the night
Tears on my pillow
And I have been cryin through the night
Weeping like a weeping pillow
From cryin through the night
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Im weeping like a weeping pillow
From cryin through the night
Oh, oh, yeah
Hear me cryin, cryin, Im cryin, cryin
Im cryin baby, cryin baby, yeah
Even a fool can tell
That so many tears sho enough done fell
And pretty soon before you know
Ill have enough tears to fill a water well
Hear me cryin through the night
Oh yeah, cryin through the night
And its on my mind
Nearly all the time
Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and I dont know why
Yes I am cryin
I got the blues and Im so dissatisfied
cause Ive been cryin through the night
Tears on my pillow
And I have been cryin through the night
Weeping like a weeping pillow
From cryin through the night
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Im weeping like a weeping pillow
Oh, oh, cryin tears, cryin tears
Through the night

What Do We Do With The Rest Of The Night

(john rich/wally wilson/sharon rice)
Weve been through enough tequila
To float us outta this place
And through the smoke I can barely see ya
But Ive memorized your face
Weve danced almost every dance
Lasted longer then the band
Oh but were not through
Its just me and you
What do we do with the rest of the night
We got all of this time on our hands
Hey a lot can go down fore the sun comes up
Between a woman and a man
No we dont have to worry bout the rest of our lives
But what do we do with the rest of the night
We can take this party down to the river
Lay a blanket on the grass
Watch the stars tangle up together
While the night slides past
We can do what we wanna do
Roll away that book of rules
Well make our own
Hey nothings carved in stone
What do we do with the rest of the night
We got all of this time on our hands
Hey a lot can go down fore the sun comes up
Between a woman and a man
No we dont have to worry bout the rest of our lives
But what do we do with the rest of the night
What do we do with the rest of the night
We got all of this time on our hands
Hey a lot can go down fore the sun comes up

Cant Stand The Night

Here I am
I want you to know that I understand
What it is youre giving me
Ive got it all brand new
Here we are
Put up a show of hands
But Ive got the feeling that
They dont know what theyre gonna do
We dont live there no more
Weve got the room on the second floor
Oh, we dont live there no more
Stay with me heartache so I can keep it right
Another day with the heartache
You know I cant stand the night
Think about the people in the foreign lands
Think about the dirty money in my hands
Think I know the reason why it doesnt work out right
Think of all the needy with a helping hand
Think of all the greedy people in our land
Think they know the reason why it doesnt work out right
I dont live there no more
Ive got the suite on the penthouse floor
Oh, I dont live there no more
Stay with me heartache so I can keep it right
Another day with the heartache
You know I cant stand the night
Stay with me heartache so I can keep it right
Another day with the heartache
You know I cant stand the night
I dont live there no more
Ive got the suite on the penthouse floor
Oh, I dont live there no more
See my pride
Been looking for it once or twice
Lost my pride
Im really gonna make it right
I dont live there no more
Ive got no room on the penthouse floor
Oh, I dont live there no more
Stay with me heartache so I can keep it right
Another day with the heartache
You know I cant stand the night
Stay with me heartache so I can keep it right
Another day with the heartache
You know I cant stand the night

When The Night Comes

Hold on
Ill be back for you
It wont be long
But for now theres something else
Thats calling me
So take me down a lonesome road
Point me east and let me go
That suitcase weighs me down
With memories
I just wanna be the one you run to
I just wanna be the one you come to
I just wanna be there for someone
When the night comes
Lets put all the cares behind us
And go where theyll never find us
I just wanna be there beside you
When the night comes
When the night comes
Two spirits in the night
That can leave before the morning light
When theres nothing left to lose
And nothing left to fear
So meet me on the edge of town
Wont keep you waiting Ill be round
Then you and i
Well just roll right out of here
I just wanna be the one you run to
I just wanna be the one you come to
I just wanna be there for someone
When the night comes
Lets put all the cares behind us
And go where theyll never find us
I just wanna be there beside you
When the night comes
When the night comes
I know therell be a time for you and i
Just take my hand and run away
Think of all the pieces of the shattered dream
Were gonna make it out some day
Well be coming back
Coming back to stay
When the night comes
I wanna be the one you run to
When the night comes
To be the one youd come to
I wanna be the one you run to
Ooh
I just wanna be the one you run to
Wanna be the one you come to
I just wanna be there for someone
When the night comes
Lets put all the cares behind us
And go where theyll never find us
I just wanna be there beside you
When the night comes
When the night comes
Ah ah when the night comes
When the night rolls down
Ah ah when the night comes
I wanna be with you
Ah ah when the night comes
Oh ah when the night comes in
Ah ah oh
Ah ah when the night comes
When the night comes
Ah ah when the night comes
I wanna be right by your side
Ah ah when the night comes
Yes baby
Ah ah oh
Dont do that to me woman
Ah ah oh
Ever stayed when the night time gets in here
Ah ah when the night comes
I wanna rise and up in the
When the night comes
Ah ah when the night comes
Ah ah oh
Love me

The Night It Should Have Been Me

I was there...
Over in that land...beyond the sea...
Begging God...Don't let it be...
Lying... Frighten...Hiding on the ground...
As Rockets...Guns...Claymores...
Exploding...all around

The radio... Help me...Call had come in...
He said... God...I'm hit...very bad...
I couldn't believe... How my heart went...
Just so... damn mad...
I moved... as it was Mauir...
For a blinding flash...had torn my soul...
And slammed.. knocked my helmet from my hair...

My eyes and soul looked toward black...
With so much fright...
I could hardly move...because of my pounding...that night
I had to find him...
I had to make amends...
Because...He had taken it...for me...My friend

I had to find him... I had too....
I had... made the path
Oh.. Please... please God... No... Don't let it be...
But his leg was gone... blown off...above the knee...
By Star Bursts... flashing pale...white...light...
My hands shook as I worked...Scorched that night...

His hand clinched mine
His eyes and face...He just said hi...
I worked at fever pitch...105... Begging... God...
Jimmy... Jimmy... don't you...Die
I checked his face again...so gray and white
We had to move...again...
Facing Black... again that night

I looked for my soul...and my gun
And now...forever...carry about forty more tons
Like a mother...with child in arms...
I ran...so my soul...would have no more harm

We were on the 10,000 yard track...
Him in my arms...my shoulder his pack...
I could see the finish line...that Huey...
It was shouting....cheering...throwing Red...
Yellow...Green... and Black....
Trying desperately...too... keep my soul...from harm
I shouted...Hold tight...Jim...with your arms
I fought...Desperate to keep my soul...from any more harm

It will never be complete...nor whole
I had said I was tired...
We'd not had any sleep...watching out for the V.C.
He'd said Relax...and sleep... Like Christ on the Cross
This night...I'll take for thee...
Oh please God...Please...Now they can see...
That was the night...
That It Should Have Been Me.....!

Now I know when you read this, you'll think it wasn't my fault.
But to me! It does feel that way....When for my own selfish need
to have some sleep. I'm writing this so that others, may never have to
face this sort of thing. So if you see me, walking that path, that continues
onto Hell...Just step to the side...
Make sure... you're not doing the same, as I had done...
And please... remember to help others first.
Before you think or yourself.
When you help others first..
That is the way...
God, intended it to be...
That's why, He was staked to a tree...
Because other wise, for my sins also
It would have been me...
Like it was for Him...At Gethsemane....

For Jimmy

Before The Night Is Over

hey baby - i got someone n' you got someone too
hey baby - i don't know what we're gonna do
how can something wrong feel so right
c'mon baby - hold on tight

before the night is over
we gonna get what we desire
remember what i told ya
this could set our hearts on fire

hey baby - we're old enough to know it's a sin
hey baby - the door is open slide on in
this feels too good to be true
i'll tell ya what i want to do

before the night is over
we gonna get what we desire
remember what i told ya
this could set our hearts on fire

i don't wanna tell a lie
this is something we can't hide

A Cry in the Night

A Cry in the Night

From the courtyard far below
We all heard the woman scream.
Faces at the windows saw
The masked assailant stalk his prey.

“Stop that”, someone shouted down.
but none went to the woman’s aide.
Not even did we call police
while she still might have been saved.

She screamed for help but no help came,
Her hands bled from defensive wounds.
Her killer made a final thrust
And she folded in a swoon.

He grabbed her purse which was the prize
And left her in the courtyard, dead
Her name was Kitty Genovese
A pretty girl, the tabloids said.

A moment in a City’s life-
Not a source of civic pride
Glad she was not a child of mine
Did you watch the night that Kitty died?

Tonight's The Night

Tonight’s the night,
I said in my head,
I don’t care anymore,
I wish I was dead.

Tonight’s the night,
I thought deep inside,
I haven’t the energy,
To keep trying to hide.

Tonight’s the night,
I said out loud,
So I took the pills;
Not feeling proud.

Tonight’s the night,
I thought for sure,
This pain won’t end,
There is no cure.

Tonight’s the night,
Or so I thought,
I hadn’t taken enough pills;
I was soon taught.

Tonight’s not the night,
I thought as I was sick,
I’ve achieved nothing,
I feel like a prick.

Tonight’s not the night,
I told my friend,
I can’t stand this nightmare,
Will it ever end?

Tonight’s not the night,
My friend said to me,
He’s over the moon,
But I just want to be free.

Power of the Night Star

The sun has set
The sky dusky brown
To remember you all night
I have that much right
To think about you all night
I have that much right
To worry about you
To care about you
All throughout the night
That is my right.
The sun sets down
And out goes the light
The world wears a gown
And sleeps all the night
For I also sleep, in my every heart beat
There is a dream for all that i keep

My night is prolonged
But dawn will come
Our faith love adorned
And spiritual distance not torn
At last my sun shall shine and rise
Oh all, lay down your heads
Close your tired eyes
Listen to loves lullaby
Aside your worries
Every moment happy
Sweetly sleep tonight.
In the night the moon shines light
And stars brighten up the sky
Your presence a star for me, Your smile
In this dark night we live out our life
Your guidance, You show us the right
The path on which with you we ride.

The Night I Painted The Sky

I came from the north
Escaping convention
Modern invention that wont let me be
To the shores of st. martin
With my fiction addiction
To restart the fire
A dreamers remedy
Independence day
And all I remember
Was a midnight rainbow
That fell from the sky
As I stand on the beach
I slowly surrender
To the child in me
That cant say goodbye
The rockets in the air
And the people everywhere
Put away their differences for a while
Oh I am still a child
When it comes to something wild
Oh that was the night
I painted the sky
I dug in the sand
Like a boy on a mission
And there in my hands
A pyros delight
If un bombadier
A night time magician
I sparked the sky
As the rockets fly from view
The rockets in the air
And the people everywhere
Put away their differences for a while
Es I am still a child
When it comes to something wild
Oh that was the night
I painted the sky
Oh the mortars they roar
In anticipation
Proceeding the sigh
Of the uplifted eyes
It showers us all
In sulfuric sensation
The colors shine
And a fiery rhyme tonight
The rockets in the air (ooooh...)
And the people everywhere
Wont you put away your differences for a while
I am but a child
When it comes to something wild
Oh that was the night
That was the night
Oh that was the night
I painted the sky
Painted the sky
Painted the sky

The night wind

Have you ever heard the wind go "Yooooo"?
'T is a pitiful sound to hear!
It seems to chill you through and through
With a strange and speechless fear.
'T is the voice of the night that broods outside
When folk should be asleep,
And many and many's the time I've cried
To the darkness brooding far and wide
Over the land and the deep:
Whom do you want, O lonely night,
That you wail the long hours through?"
And the night would say in its ghostly way:
"Yoooooooo!
Yoooooooo!
Yoooooooo!"

My mother told me long ago
(When I was a little tad)
That when the night went wailing so,
Somebody had been bad;
And then, when I was snug in bed,
Whither I had been sent,
With the blankets pulled up round my head,
I'd think of what my mother'd said,
And wonder what boy she meant!
And "Who's been bad to-day?" I'd ask
Of the wind that hoarsely blew,
And the voice would say in its meaningful way:
"Yoooooooo!
Yoooooooo!
Yoooooooo!"

That this was true I must allow -
You'll not believe it, though!
Yes, though I'm quite a model now,
I was not always so.
And if you doubt what things I say,
Suppose you make the test;
Suppose, when you've been bad some day
And up to bed are sent away
From mother and the rest -
Suppose you ask, "Who has been bad?"
And then you'll hear what's true;
For the wind will moan in its ruefulest tone:
"Yoooooooo!
Yoooooooo!
Yoooooooo!"

Crying Through The Night

Yes I am cryin'
I got the blues and I don't know why
Yes I am cryin'
I got the blues and I'm so dissatisfied

Voices Of The Night : Prelude

Pleasant it was, when woods were green,
And winds were soft and low,
To lie amid some sylvan scene,
Where, the long drooping boughs between
Shadows dark and sunlight sheen
Alternate come and go;

Or where the denser grove receives
No sunlight from above
But the dark foliage interweaves
In one unbroken roof of leaves,
Underneath whose sloping eaves
The shadows hardly move.

Beneath some patriarchal tree
I lay upon the ground;
His hoary arms uplifted he,
And all the broad leaves over me
Clapped their little hands in glee,
With one continuous sound;--

A slumberous sound,--a sound that brings
The feelings of a dream,--
As of innumerable wings,
As, when a bell no longer swings,
Faint the hollow murmur rings
O'er meadow, lake, and stream.

And dreams of that which cannot die,
Bright visins, came to me,
As lapped in thought I used to lie,
And gaze into the summer sky,
Where the sailing clouds went by,
Like ships upon the sea;

Dreams that the soul of youth engage
Ere Fancy has been quelled;
Old legends of the monkish page.
Traditions of the saint and sage,
Tales that have the rime of age,
And chronicles of Eld.

And, loving still these quaint old themes,
Even in the city's throng
I feel the freshness of the streams,
That, crossed by shades and sunny gleams,
Water the green land of dreams,
The holy land of song.

Therefore, at Pentecost, which brings
The Spring, clothed like a bride,
When nestling buds unfold their wings,
And bishop's-caps have golden rings,
Musing upon many things,
I sought the woodlands wide.

The green trees whispered low and mild,
It was a sound of joy!
They were my playmates when a child
And rocked me in their arms so wild!
Still they looked at me and smiled
As if I were a boy;

And ever whispered, mild and low,
'Come, be a child once more!'
And waved their long arms to and fro,
And beckoned solemnly and slow;
O, I could not choose but go
Into the woodlands hoar;

Into the blithe and breathing air,
Into the solemn wood.
Solemn and silent everywhere!
Nature with folded hands seemed there,
Kneeling at her evening prayer!
Like one in prayer I stood.

Before me rose an avenue
Of tall and sombrous pines;
Abroad their fan-like branches grew,
And, where the sunshine darted throught
Spread a vapor soft and blue,
In long and sloping lines.

And, falling on my weary brain,
Like a fast-falling shower,
The dreams of youth came back again,
Low lispings of the summer rain,
Dropping on the ripened grain,
As once upon the flower.

Visions of childhood! Stay, O stay!
Ye were so sweet and wild!
And distant voices seemed to say,
'It cannot be! They pass away!
Other themes demand thy lay;
Thou art no more a child!

'The land of Song within thee lies,
Watered by living springs;
The lids of Fancy's sleepless eyes
Are gates unto that Paradise;
Holy thoughts, like stars, arise,
Its clouds are angels' wings.

'Learn, that henceforth thy song shall be
Not mountains capped with snow,
Nor forests sounding like the sea,
Nor rivers flowing ceaselessly,
Where the woodlands bend to see
The bending heavens below.

'There is a forest where the din
Of iron branches sounds!
A mighty river roara between,
And whosoever looks therein,
Sees the heavens all black with sin,--
Sees not ita depths, nor bounds.

'Athwart the swinging branches cast,
Soft rays of sunshine pour;
Then comes the fearful wintry blast;
Our hopes, like withered leaves, fall fast;
Pallid lips say, 'It is past!
We can return no more!'

'Look, then, into thine heart, and write!
Yes, into Life's deep stream!
All forms of sorrow and delight,
All solemn Voices of the Night,
That can soothe thee, or affright,--
Be these henceforth thy theme.'

To lie amid some sylvan scene,
Where, the long drooping boughs between
Shadows dark and sunlight sheen
Alternate come and go;

Or where the denser grove receives
No sunlight from above
But the dark foliage interweaves
In one unbroken roof of leaves,
Underneath whose sloping eaves
The shadows hardly move.

Beneath some patriarchal tree
I lay upon the ground;
His hoary arms uplifted he,
And all the broad leaves over me
Clapped their little hands in glee,
With one continuous sound;-

A slumberous sound,-a sound that brings
The feelings of a dream,-
As of innumerable wings,
As, when a bell no longer swings,
Faint the hollow murmur rings
O'er meadow, lake, and stream.

And dreams of that which cannot die,
Bright visins, came to me,
As lapped in thought I used to lie,
And gaze into the summer sky,
Where the sailing clouds went by,
Like ships upon the sea;

Dreams that the soul of youth engage
Ere Fancy has been quelled;
Old legends of the monkish page.
Traditions of the saint and sage,
Tales that have the rime of age,
And chronicles of Eld.

And, loving still these quaint old themes,
Even in the city's throng
I feel the freshness of the streams,
That, crossed by shades and sunny gleams,
Water the green land of dreams,
The holy land of song.

Therefore, at Pentecost, which brings
The Spring, clothed like a bride,
When nestling buds unfold their wings,
And bishop's-caps have golden rings,
Musing upon many things,
I sought the woodlands wide.

The green trees whispered low and mild,
It was a sound of joy!
They were my playmates when a child
And rocked me in their arms so wild!
Still they looked at me and smiled
As if I were a boy;

And ever whispered, mild and low,
"Come, be a child once more!"
And waved their long arms to and fro,
And beckoned solemnly and slow;
O, I could not choose but go
Into the woodlands hoar;

Into the blithe and breathing air,
Into the solemn wood.
Solemn and silent everywhere!
Nature with folded hands seemed there,
Kneeling at her evening prayer!
Like one in prayer I stood.

Before me rose an avenue
Of tall and sombrous pines;
Abroad their fan-like branches grew,
And, where the sunshine darted throught
Spread a vapor soft and blue,
In long and sloping lines.

And, falling on my weary brain,
Like a fast-falling shower,
The dreams of youth came back again,
Low lispings of the summer rain,
Dropping on the ripened grain,
As once upon the flower.

Visions of childhood! Stay, O stay!
Ye were so sweet and wild!
And distant voices seemed to say,
"It cannot be! They pass away!
Other themes demand thy lay;
Thou art no more a child!

"The land of Song within thee lies,
Watered by living springs;
The lids of Fancy's sleepless eyes
Are gates unto that Paradise;
Holy thoughts, like stars, arise,
Its clouds are angels' wings.

"Learn, that henceforth thy song shall be
Not mountains capped with snow,
Nor forests sounding like the sea,
Nor rivers flowing ceaselessly,
Where the woodlands bend to see
The bending heavens below.

"There is a forest where the din
Of iron branches sounds!
A mighty river roara between,
And whosoever looks therein,
Sees the heavens all black with sin,-
Sees not ita depths, nor bounds.

"Athwart the swinging branches cast,
Soft rays of sunshine pour;
Then comes the fearful wintry blast;
Our hopes, like withered leaves, fall fast;
Pallid lips say, 'It is past!
We can return no more!'

"Look, then, into thine heart, and write!
Yes, into Life's deep stream!
All forms of sorrow and delight,
All solemn Voices of the Night,
That can soothe thee, or affright,-
Be these henceforth thy theme."

it is only in the darkness
of the night
that we really begin
to see ...
