We Will Always Have the Ocean
And she said,
while he stood there
with tomorrow in his suitcase
and yesterday disappearing as vapor on the hot street
'We will always have the ocean'
The trees
with their branches swaying overhead, lied
shedding their leaves like tears at summers end
Warm breezes, carressing and seducing
as we lay in the dark with our secrets
became fickle and turned cold and unforgiving
Even the moon
which bathed us in her cool, white river
betrayed us in the end
But the ocean is our constant-
Our rushing forward and our standing apart
The salty crashing together
and now
our falling back
our steady flow to another shore
Let all of nature break the promises she made
We will always have the ocean
