The First Day of Summer
I see children running in the street
free of textbooks and backpacks,
barefoot, playing football
I feel the sun upon my face
its warm caress
bundles me in peace
I smell the fresh dew on the morning grass,
so sweet smelling,
the scent of freedom.
I hear the song
of an ice cream truck passing by
and can't bare to see it go
without buying my favorite frozen treat
I taste the secret goodness of a Klondike bar,
its creamy richness tells me
how sweet life can be,
on a day like today,
on the first day of summer...
