There Are Times/ When The Poetry Of The Poem

THERE ARE TIMES/ WHEN THE POETRY OF THE POEM

There are times
When the poetry of the poem,
And the poetry of the poet
Are poetry.

But there are too times
When the poetry of the poet
And the poetry of the poem
Are not poetry.

There are times
When all the poetry,
And all the poets in the universe
Do not make the world a poem.

Even In Times When The Signs Are Vivid

Tricked by slick divisionists,
A people stripped of their identity...
Can not ascend from knees taught to bend,
While begging for forgiveness of sins committed.
After being shown how to recognize and submit to them.
They, them and disinterested others,
Are lost and afraid to live their lives.
Finding themselves trapped.
And eyes on others to despise.

Even in times when the signs are vivid,
They remain blind.
Too many accept and have been told to believe,
There is a dignity in suffering.
And a reward received,
For doing it.
By those who ensure they stay just where they are!
Subservient and dependent.
Abused to amuse and needy.

The Wildest Times Of The World

I have fallen, I have stood up, Ive had the patience of a tree
You have trembled, you have stayed still, you have tumbled like a weed
All the mountains, all the deserts, go for miles and miles around
We have driven for years now, baby, just to get bak to a place we had already
Found
Now youre driving me downtown, baby, on a rainy night
Youre driving me crazy, baby, is this really life?
In the wildest times of the world
Oh I never thought Id be here with you tonight
In the wildest times of the world
Lets stay together in this lonely and crazy life
I was mistaken, our love was forsaken, the worst mistake I ever made
Were you lonely, were you brave, now?
I guess the two are one and the same
Now Im singing here with my sweet, sweet darling in my eye
Aint it funny how youre walking through life and it turns on a dime?
I was missing you crazy, baby, are you really mine?
In the wildest times of the world
Oh I never thought Id be here with you tonight
In the wildest times of the world
Lets stay together in this lonely and crazy life
Hey hey hey...

In The Days When The World Was Wide

The world is narrow and ways are short, and our lives are dull and slow,
For little is new where the crowds resort, and less where the wanderers go;
Greater, or smaller, the same old things we see by the dull road-side --
And tired of all is the spirit that sings
of the days when the world was wide.

When the North was hale in the march of Time,
and the South and the West were new,
And the gorgeous East was a pantomime, as it seemed in our boyhood's view;
When Spain was first on the waves of change,
and proud in the ranks of pride,
And all was wonderful, new and strange in the days when the world was wide.

Then a man could fight if his heart were bold,
and win if his faith were true --
Were it love, or honour, or power, or gold, or all that our hearts pursue;
Could live to the world for the family name, or die for the family pride,
Could fly from sorrow, and wrong, and shame
in the days when the world was wide.

They sailed away in the ships that sailed ere science controlled the main,
When the strong, brave heart of a man prevailed
as 'twill never prevail again;
They knew not whither, nor much they cared --
let Fate or the winds decide --
The worst of the Great Unknown they dared
in the days when the world was wide.

They raised new stars on the silent sea that filled their hearts with awe;
They came to many a strange countree and marvellous sights they saw.
The villagers gaped at the tales they told,
and old eyes glistened with pride --
When barbarous cities were paved with gold
in the days when the world was wide.

'Twas honest metal and honest wood, in the days of the Outward Bound,
When men were gallant and ships were good -- roaming the wide world round.
The gods could envy a leader then when `Follow me, lads!' he cried --
They faced each other and fought like men
in the days when the world was wide.

They tried to live as a freeman should -- they were happier men than we,
In the glorious days of wine and blood, when Liberty crossed the sea;
'Twas a comrade true or a foeman then, and a trusty sword well tried --
They faced each other and fought like men
in the days when the world was wide.

The good ship bound for the Southern seas when the beacon was Ballarat,
With a `Ship ahoy!' on the freshening breeze,
`Where bound?' and `What ship's that?' --
The emigrant train to New Mexico -- the rush to the Lachlan Side --
Ah! faint is the echo of Westward Ho!
from the days when the world was wide.

South, East, and West in advance of Time -- and, ay! in advance of Thought
Those brave men rose to a height sublime -- and is it for this they fought?
And is it for this damned life we praise the god-like spirit that died
At Eureka Stockade in the Roaring Days
with the days when the world was wide?

We fight like women, and feel as much; the thoughts of our hearts we guard;
Where scarcely the scorn of a god could touch,
the sneer of a sneak hits hard;
The treacherous tongue and cowardly pen, the weapons of curs, decide --
They faced each other and fought like men
in the days when the world was wide.

Think of it all -- of the life that is! Study your friends and foes!
Study the past! And answer this: `Are these times better than those?'
The life-long quarrel, the paltry spite, the sting of your poisoned pride!
No matter who fell it were better to fight
as they did when the world was wide.

Boast as you will of your mateship now -- crippled and mean and sly --
The lines of suspicion on friendship's brow
were traced since the days gone by.
There was room in the long, free lines of the van
to fight for it side by side --
There was beating-room for the heart of a man
in the days when the world was wide.

. . . . .

With its dull, brown days of a-shilling-an-hour
the dreary year drags round:
Is this the result of Old England's power?
-- the bourne of the Outward Bound?
Is this the sequel of Westward Ho! -- of the days of Whate'er Betide?
The heart of the rebel makes answer `No!
We'll fight till the world grows wide!'

The world shall yet be a wider world -- for the tokens are manifest;
East and North shall the wrongs be hurled that followed us South and West.
The march of Freedom is North by the Dawn! Follow, whate'er betide!
Sons of the Exiles, march! March on! March till the world grows wide!

When The World Vanishes

When this world vanishes
When it goes with its own things
When the sun glows dim then
The moon shall head adark shape
The earth shall warn out like acloth
He says on the mount Zion

When the living things cry foul
When the most high shall say no more
When the heavens shall close its walls
Our ways shall never be his
His ways are always higher as heaven
For he is the king of glory

If today we remember the cross
And take charge of his will
Demonds shall never sneak closer
Even diseases shall regret to lock
And he shall say well is with you
When the world vanishes

When The World Changes (Envelope Couplet Sestets)

When the world changes from what it was before
when men grow to the duties they exist for,
things do become very much better still,
when people have freedom of their own will
when the world does not anymore know war,
when the world changes from what it was before.

When the world changes from what it was before,
when a young couple each other do adore,
when a kiss is filled with special bliss,
words, acts and feelings do not go amiss,
we have the capacity to become much more,
when the world changes from what it was before.

When the world changes from what it was before,
changes from a place of only death and gore
when an honest sincere man governs a land,
places all of his people in God’s strong hand,
then much better things are always in store,
when the world changes from what it was before.

Back When.... (The World Was New)

we used to say 'i love you'...
rushing out doors we never locked.
leaving the fire untended,
and dishes in the sink.
summers came and died,
and neighbors seemed to follow.
as the footprints of small children,
became shadows that grew and left.
we who were forever young,
drinking dawn after dawn.

who are we now?
forever rusting in autumn....
the old spicket drips,
and dogs sleep as if they knew.
even the bricks begin to crumble,
the tin torn from the roof.
the setting sun names its own births,
and validates its deaths.

we who never speak,
words that seem strange to lips.
the flowers rest in peace,
the ashes cold and still.
as locks become the way,
the last winter looms in dread.
seems every house is vacant,
as the world drowns in transit.

we used to say 'i love you'...
back when the world was new!

When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of Whats Still Around

Turn on my vcr
Same one Ive had for years
James brown on the tammy show
Same tape Ive had for years
I sit in my old car
Same one Ive had for years
Old batterys running down
It ran for years and years
Turn on the radio
The static hurts my ears
Tell me where would I go
I aint been out in years
Turn on the stereo
Its played for years and years
An otis redding song
Its all I own
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around
Plug in my mci
To excercise my brain
Make records on my own
Cant go out in the rain
Pick up the telephone
Ive listened here for years
No-one to talk to me
Ive listened here for years
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around
When I feel lonely here
Dont waste my time with tears
I run deep throat again
It ran for years and years
Dont like the food I eat
The cans are running out
Same food for years and years
I hate the food I eat
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of whats still around

Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)

Where were you when the world stopped turnin' on that September day
Were you in the yard with your wife and children
Or workin' on some stage in L.A.
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Risin' against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry
Did you weep for the children, they lost their dear loved ones
Or pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out with pride for the red, white and blue
For the heroes who died just doin' what they do
Did you look up to Heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turnin' on that September day
Teachin' a class full of innocent children
Or drivin' down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hoped it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak to some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Or stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

When The World Has Become Gray

when the world has become gray and I was part of it.. then you will no longer find words of sorrow, hatred, joy and happiness
of me because I had left Him:
'Lord, please tell all of one day to someone who I care' that he understood that I loved him.

then I was through with the peaceful solitude

At Night When The World Is Sleeping

at night when the world is sleeping
i have learned to sing inside the chamber of my heart
i have become this nightingale
a black nightingale singing the songs of the full moon
at night i have become this bleeding heart
blood dripping on the floor of the house

at night i beg the moon to listen
to the songs of the black nightingale
i beg the moon
to see the blood from my heart dripping
i beg the floor to understand and for a time being
when sadness and mourning reigns in the house of my body
to keep this bleeding heart
like sands on the floor of its hands.

When the World Goes Dark

when the world goes dark
and the grief emerges
washes over your being
pushing over your mind

when the world goes dark
and the monsters come out
taunting you with your fears
rocking your soul with pain

when the world goes dark
and time stops suddenly
and your trapped
in a never ending struggle

when the world goes dark
and the pain floods you
your heart shatters again
your souls light put out

when the world goes dark
and your all alone
crying those bitter tears
that taste like sadness

when the world goes dark
and only the truth is left
the ugly reality comes forth
the real behind all the masks

when the world goes dark
and its just you and me
my true self with show
i have nothing left unknown

Once, When The World Of Trees....

A girl, not young
Is at my door beating,
‘What do you want of me, ’
A voice comes, speaking.

‘Only of me and mine
That you took from me,
Only the comb and wine
That once belonged me.’

‘I have no tines of yours, ’
A voice is stating,
‘Only the dark, these walls
A long time waiting.’

‘What of that early breeze
That caught my blushing
Once, when the world of trees
Went by, rushing? ’

‘What of the glimpses caught
Of shadows, fleeting?
Open this dark, your door,
And speed our meeting.’

‘Leave me to bury peace, ’
A voice, it trembles
‘I have no thought of lees,
Nor what resembles.’

‘I have no window-panes
No frost, no hoar-dew,
Fingers that traced old stains
Were here before you.’

Bolting the shutters fast
I heard, despite me
Voices that spoke were mine,
Rasped deep inside me.

‘Give me the breath, ’ she sobbed,
‘That I once sighed with – ‘
‘Never, ’ I said, ‘that breath
Was the breath you lied with.’

When The World Ends

When the world ends
Collect your things
Youre coming with me
When the world ends
You tuckle up yourself with me
Watch it as the stars disappear to nothing
The day the world is over
Well be lying in bed
Im gonna rock you like a baby when the cities fall
We will rise as the buildings crumble
Float there and watch it all
Amidst the burning, well be churning
You know, love will be our wings
The passion rises up from the ashes
When the world ends
When the world ends
Youre gonna come with me
Were going to be crazy
Like a river bends
Were going to float
Through the criss cross of the mountains
Watch them fade to nothing
When the world ends
You know thats whats happening now
Im going to be there with you somehow, oh...
Im going to tie you up like a baby in a carriage car
Your legs wont work cause you want me so
You just lie spread to the wall
The love you got is surely
All the love that I would ever need
Im going to take you by my side
And love you tall, til the world ends
Oh, but dont you worry about a thing
No, cause I got you here with me
Dont you worry about a
Just you and me
Floating through the empty, empty
Just you and me
Oh, graces
Oh, grace
Oh, when the world ends
Well be burning one
When the world ends
Well be sweet makin love
Oh, you know when the world ends
Im going to take you aside and say
Lets watch it fade away, fade away
And the worlds done
Ours just begun
Its done
Ours just begun
Were gonna dive into the emptiness
Well be swimming
Im going to walk you through the pathless roads
Im going to take you to the top of the mountain thats no longer there
Im going to take you to bed and love you, I swear
Like the end is here
Im going to take you up to
Im going to take you down on you
Im going to hold you like an angel, angel
Im going to love you
Im going to love you
When the world ends
Im going to hold you
When the world is over
Well just be beginning...

There Are Times When The Sun Does Not Shine

who argues
about the rainy days
when the sun
does not shine
like a child hiding
on the skirt
of her mother

who disputes
lean times
and hungry days
when we simply
bite our tongue
swallow our saliva
and say we
just had lunch

when this happens
we can do nothing
we let all these times
come and then wait
when they finally leave

for like the sun that
does not shine today
tomorrow it may come
and shine again so brightly!

When The Blues Get Me

How many people get the blues like I?
When bad things happen I want to cry.
But when I cry the blues don't go.
They stick around for too damned long
and so
I shake my fists and say, 'what's wrong? '

Sometimes those blues go away for days.
Sometimes I'm happy like spring bouquets.
And when those blueless days appear
it makes me want to stand and cheer
'Hurray for life.'
My fists are unclenched and I persevere.

I enjoy these times when the blues are gone.
I praise the sunset and the light of dawn.
I expect the best out of myself
and place those blues in a bottom drawer.
But the blues aren't satisfied.
There are more in store.

Blues, you make me hate how I feel.
You settle in and then you steal
peace, contentment and harmony
like a cascade of dissonance
that comes over me.
So I clench my fists and cry.

Sheoaks That Sigh When The Wind Is Still

Why are the sheoaks forever sighing?
(Sheoaks that sigh when the wind is still)—
Why are the dead hopes forever dying?
(Dead hopes that died and are with us still.)
As you make it and what you will.

Why are the ridges forever waiting?
Ridges that waited ere one man came,
Still by the towns with their life vibrating
Lonely ridges that wait the same.
Ridges and gullies without a name.

Why is the strong heart forever peering
Into the future that speaks no ill?
Why is the kind heart forever cheering,
Even at times when the fears are still?
As you make it, and what you will.

Why is the distance forever drawing?
(The wide horizon is round us still!)
Why is resentment forever gnawing
Against a world that may mean no ill?
Why are so many forever sawing
On strings that rasp and can never thrill—Soothe or thrill?
As you make it, and what you will.

We Are the World - Michael Jackson

There comes a time
When we heed a certain call,
When the world must come together as one.
There are people dying,
And it's time to lend a hand,
to life, the greatest gift of all.
We can't go on
Pretending day by day,
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change.
We are all a part of
God's great big family,
And the truth, you know love is all we need.
(Chorus)
We are the world,
We are the children,
We are the ones who make a brighter day,
So let's start giving.
There's a choice we're making,
We're saving our own lives,
It's true, we'll make a better day,
Just you and me. (end)
Send them your heart,
So they know that someone cares,
And their lives will be stronger and free.
As God has shown us,
By turning stone to bread,
So we all must lend a helping hand.
(Chorus)
When you're down and out,
There seems no hope at all.
But if you just believe,
There's no way we can fall.
Well, well, well, well, let us realize
That a change will only come
When we stand together as one.
(Chorus) x 5
