One

I've tried with all my mind
But still don't understand why we ever let it get so out of hand
My arms are reaching out and holding on tight
To what it always felt so right
It's hard to figure out the answers to the questions
Wind blow the light as you go on a separate direction

The world is breaking into two
And my heart is turning blue
And you still don't get it

Shut Out The Light

The runway rushed up at him, as he felt the wheels touch down
He stood out on the blacktop, and took a taxi into town.
He got off down on main street, and went into a local bar
Bought a drink and found a seat in the corner in the dark
She called up her mama to make sure the kids were outa the house
She checked herself out in the dining room mirror,
And undid an extra button on her blouse
He felt her lyin next to him and the clock said 4 am
He was starin at the ceilin he couldnt move his hands
{chorus}: oh mama, mama, mama come quick, Ive got the shakes and
Im gonna be sick, throw your arms around me in the cold dark night,
Hey now mama dont shut out the light, dont you shut out the light,....
Well on his porch they stretched a banner, that said johnny welcome home
Bobby pulled his ford outa the garage and they polished up the chrome
His mama said johnny oh johnny, Im so glad to have you back with me
His pa said he was sure theyd give him his job back at the renderin factory
{repeat chorus}
Well deep in a dark forest, a forest filled with rain
Beyond a stretch of maryland pines theres a river without a name
In the cold black water, johnson linnier stands
He stares across the lights of the city and dreams of where hes been.
{repeat chorus}

Turn Out The Light

Lover, lover, why is there light
In the itchy gitchy evening and its dark outside
And whats the difference between wrong and right
Wrong and right
Isnt it funny how pain goes away
And then comes back another day
The air feels very good today
Good today
Lover, lover, why is there light
Did you forget to turn off that light
Well thats all right but its way too bright
Way too bright
See the eagle above the hill
The lake reflects and is so still
The tension has gone from my will
From my will
Moon on the mountain shining bright
First there is dark and then there is light
And sometimes the light is way too bright
Its way to bright
Why dont you turn out the light
Oh, turn out the light
Why dont you turn out the light
Turn out the light
Turn out the light
Turn out the light

Please Dont Turn Out The Lights

Evrytime I need reality, in jeopardy of losing all of me
I just am not stronger, life dont last so long , so baby,
If your turned out the light, if you turned out the light,
Please dont turn out the light, please dont turn out the light
Turn out the lights
Baby, I dont feel too reliable
I can only do what Im liable, but if you want to leave me
Love me and just leave me, baby;
If you turned out the light, if you turned out the light
Please dont turn out the light, please dont turn out the light
Turn out the lights
Turn out the lights

The Light Wraps You

The light wraps you in its mortal flame.
Abstracted pale mourner, standing that way
against the old propellers of the twighlight
that revolves around you.

Speechless, my friend,
alone in the loneliness of this hour of the dead
and filled with the lives of fire,
pure heir of the ruined day.

A bough of fruit falls from the sun on your dark garment.
The great roots of night
grow suddenly from your soul,
and the things that hide in you come out again
so that a blue and palled people
your newly born, takes nourishment.

Oh magnificent and fecund and magnetic slave
of the circle that moves in turn through black and gold:
rise, lead and possess a creation
so rich in life that its flowers perish
and it is full of sadness.

Put Out The Fire

Words and music by brian may
They called him a hero
In the land of the free
But he wouldnt shake my hand boy
He disappointed me
So I got my hand gun
And I blew him away
That critter was a bad guy
And I had to make him pay
You might fear for my reason
I dont care what they say
Look out baby its the season
For the mad masquerade
Put out the fire put out the fire put out the fire
Oh you need a bullet like a hole in the head
Put out the fire put out the fire put out the fire
Dont believe what your grand-daddy said
She was my lover
It was a shame that she died
But the constitutions right on my side
cause I caught my lover in the neighbours bed
I got retribution
Filled em all full of lead
Ive been told its the fashion
To let me on the streets again
Its nothing but a crime of passion
And Im not to blame
Put out the fire put out the fire put out the fire
You need a weapon like a hole in the head
Put out the fire put out the fire baby put out the fire
And let your sons and daughters sleep sound in their beds
You know a gun never killed nobody
You can ask anyone
People get shot by people
People with guns
Put out the fire put out the fire put out the fire
You need a gun like a hole in the head
Put out the fire put out the fire put out the fire
Just tell me that old fashioned gun law is dead
Shoot shoot..

Let's Get Free

I went searching
For something I could believe
So I turned on the TV
I was fed hypocrisy
Leading me towards the sea
Of confusion
I heard a voice
Ringing like music in the air
Breaking hearts most everywhere
All the people in despair
Cry out for justice to be fair
To every people
(Chorus)
Saying lets get free, lets get free
Dont just believe in what you hear
Dont just believe in what you see
Lets get free, lets get free
You gotta open up your mind
Cause truth is what ya need, oh truth is what you need
Our love
Can prop you up and make you stand
Some are sinking in the sand
With all that silver in their hand
Take a message to that man
That wisdom is power
And tell me now
You have Allah on your side
Or is it Jesus or your pride
Will it get you through the night
Every man has to have something to believe in
(Chorus)
Lets get free, lets get free
You gotta believe in what you feel
And feel what you believe
Lets get free, lets get free
oh love is all you need
Before the dawn
Comes the darkest hour of night
Either walk into the light
Or you turn and close your eyes
And fade into a dreamless sleep and hide
Every human
Is gonna laugh and sometimes cry
Every tear that fills your eyes
Falls with the weight of sacrifice
Forgiveness hears the pain of disappointment
(Chorus)
Lets get free, lets get free
Dont just believe in what you hear
Dont just believe in what you see
Lets get free, oh lets get free
Everythings as it should be
So faith is all you need, oh peace is all you need, oh truth is all you need
yeah oh
What the world needs now is love love love
What the world needs now is love love love
What the world needs now is love love love

I Turn Out The Lights

I turn out the lights and lie down to sleep
and you open up within me like a lotus of fire
blooming in the darkness of a vast inner space
that has become my only skin, tattooed with stars
as I play solitaire with destiny, using your Tarot
of chameleonic constellations as a firing squad.

Little threads of joy and fear shudder through me,
revelation and lightning, fireflies going off,
the blasting caps of greater detonations yet to come,
and your face is before me, apparition and aurora,
the moon reflected on undulant water,
a jewel turning in the light of itself, blue eyes, full lips,
the blonde smoke of your hair on your cheek
disappearing somewhere as if a match had just been put out,
and your smile, your beautiful, wide, forgiving smile
that seems to flow from the warmest sugars
of an abundant heart; what dawn over a lake
has ever touched me silently like that?

One look at you and I am hurled into another more spiritual dawn
like a bird bewildered into singing by the strange joy
that threatens to consume him in the soaring radiance.
And though I cannot say you, you are the secret
I discern in the stars when they stop to whisper through the trees
to the bones of the holy man humbled on the hill
of his own insignificance; and then you are the only exaltation
that can raise him up again to shine above the night.

Always within me you summon like a bell; you
draw me out of myself like a genie torn from a lamp; my blood
heaves helplessly to the urgent clock of your tides,
teems with life and washes up on the shores
of mysterious realms where you are always the enchantress of the island;
what man or creature could I not become for you,
immersed as I am in the wine of your being? You are
the fullness of woman in the prime of her mystery, the vase of your body,
the shrine of a human divinity that generation after generation
inspires adoration from the brute
that comes, awed and shy of first fire, to lay pink tulips on the staircase,
grails and goblets gathered to be filled by the reeling honey
of your presence, the fire that burns without burning
and leaves even the wind love-sick and longing for ashes. Human,
you are five petals of fire; divine, one flower.

Break, then, if I must; in loving you, I'll break.
And should you never love me back and the air turn glass
and shatter
into a million splinters of emotion that settle at the bottom of the heart,
the broken wineglass, the crippled flower,
severed from its stem, or the moon,
scoured from its reflection on the eyeless river by clouds,
never know the laughter of your fountain, still
in every fractured piece of me
the whole of your face, in time and out, would shine
as it did in the dark before the light began. You are not a mirage
shimmering over vipers in these circumstantial sands
and I am not a candle in a hurricane. Though I love,
I know the world, its gardens and atrocities, its wounded doors
and urgent windows flowing with lace and longing.
It doesn't have much time for itself, busy as it is,
trying to hide the loss; it's looking for its eyes with its eyes,
its head with its head, its feet with its feet.

I've pulled the thorn from my heart, the worm from the rose,
the nail from my hand. I've gone mad and madder still,
looked up at hell out of the depths of my despair
and envied such exalted heights. And then it's all turned radiant
for no more reason than a dream, something nameless changes,
even as we plan a way into ourselves, or out,
suddenly an unknown light breaks through, and we have our eyes.

One moment of you, one firefly, in the vastness
I was falling through and galaxies ignited all around me;
the dead branch blossomed, the singing bird came
and the day was no longer a spoonful of ashes. Call it
what you will, pour it into any cup, plastic, crystal, or clay,
or drink it from your hands: it's still the wine, it's still the moon; it's still
always and only you that makes this confusion of stars and birds
in the treetops, this picture-music, this drunk dream, this tavern
that is an outcast's shrine to joy
raise a glass
to the sun in his blood that shines at midnight.

The Night I couldn't Win

Why why why why why

A glass of wine to celebrate
Followed by many more
The day that I was to graduate
I wish to not remember at all

The wine it flowed all day and all night
My glass was never empty
Too drunk was I, so I turned out the light
At around 11.20

Here is where things begin to change
Where everything is at a loss
The atmosphere is a little strange
I felt extremely lost

A man had followed me to my room
His intentions were dark and evil
My hand reached out and attacked with a broom
But too late, my attempt was feeble

One hand gripped my wrists above my head
The other ripped open my legs
I cried out loud but then he said
‘AGAIN AND I’LL MAKE YOU BEG’

Beads of his sweat merged with my tears
His dirty weapon hurt me
I never knew I could feel so much fear
For someone who I had once flirted

Please make him stop
Make him end it now
Make it fall off
Make him leave without a sound

My pleas they were in vain
And when the monster eventually left
He left me in agonizing pain
With bite marks all over each breast

And blood oozing from every bruise
His message to me, as he got up to go
And did up his zip and put on his shoes
Was a smug grin that filled me with woe.

How could I let this creature so vile
Cause me so much anger
He entered my life for just a short while
But when he left he took my laughter

He took my smile, my love, my care
He took them with a twisted grin
Memories haunt me, and this is why I share
The night I couldn’t win

Gods Comic

Wish youd known me when I was alive, I was a funny feller
The crowd would hoot and holler for more
I wore a drunks red nose for applause
Oh yes I was a comical priest
With a joke for the flock and a hand up your fleece
Drooling the drink and the lipstick and greasepaint
Down the cardboard front of my dirty dog-collar
Chorus:
Now Im dead, now Im dead, now Im dead,
Now Im dead, now Im dead
And Im going on to meet my reward
I was scared, I was scared, I was scared, I was scared
He might of never heard gods comic
So there he was on a water-bed
Drinking a cola of a mystery brand
Reading an airport novelette, listening to andrew lloyd-webbers requiem
He said, before it had really begun, I prefer the one about my son
Ive been wading through all this unbelievable
Junk and wondering if I should have given
The world to the monkeys
Chorus
Im going to take a little trip down paradises endless shores
They say that travel broadens the mind, til you cant get your head out of doors
Im sitting here on the top of the world
I hang around in the longest night
Until each beast has gone bed and then I say
God bless and turn out the light
While you lie in the dark, afraid to breathe and you beg and you promise
And you bargain and you plead
Sometimes you confuse me with santa claus
Its the big white beard I suppose
Im going up to the pole, where you folks die of cold
I might be gone for a while if you need me
Now Im dead, now Im dead, now Im dead,
Now Im dead, now Im dead and youre all
Going on to meet your reward
Are you scared? are you scared? are you scared?
Are you scared?
You might have never heard, but gods comic

Boo to Buddha

So it is eighteen years,
Helena, since we met!
A season so endears,
Nor you nor I forget
The fresh young faces that once clove
In that most fiery dawn of love.

We wandered to and fro,
Who knew not how to woo,
Those eighteen years ago,
Sweetheart, when I and you
Exchanged high vows in heaven's sight
That scarce survived a summer's night.

What scourge smote from the stars
What madness from the moon?
That night we broke the bars
Was quintessential June,
When you and I beneath the trees
Bartered our bold virginities.

Eighteen -years, months, or hours?
Time is a tyrant's toy!
Eternal are the flowers!
We are but girl and boy
Yet -since love leapt as swift to-night
As it had never left the light!

For fiercer from the South
Still flames your cruel hair,
And Trojan Helen's mouth
Still not so ripe and rare
As Helena's -nor love nor youth
So leaps with lust or thrills with truth.

Helena, still we hold
Flesh firmer, still we mix
Black hair with hair as gold.
Life has but served to fix
Our hearts; love lingers on the tongue,
And who loves once is always young.

The stars are still the same;
The changeful moon endures;
Come without fear or shame,
And draw my mouth to yours!
Youth fails, however flesh be fain;
Manhood and womanhood attain.

Life is a string of pearls,
And you the first I strung.
You left -first flower of girls! -
Life lyric on my tongue,
An indefatigable dance,
An inexhaustible romance!

Blush of love's dawn, bright bud
That bloomed for my delight,
First blossom of my blood,
Burn in that blood to-night!
Helena, Helena, fiercely fresh,
Your flesh flies fervent to my flesh.

What sage can dare impugn
Man's immortality?
Our godhead swims, immune
From death and destiny.
Ignored the bubble in the flow
Of love eighteen short years ago!

Time -I embrace all time
As my arm rings your waist.
Space -you surpass, sublime,
As, taking me, we taste
Omnipotence, sense slaying sense,
Soul slaying soul, omniscience.

The Hero To You Not A Hero To Me

Suppose we all do look at things differently
The hero to you not a hero to me
Your hero renowned for his skills at football
Yet the hero to some not a hero to all
If on everything we did happen to agree
How utterly boring indeed we would be
Our different ways makes us more interesting as some like to say
No two look at life in exactly in the same way
You have your own hero and that suits me fine
But your sort of hero could never be mine
Of our different views on life I am all too aware
And so little in common we do have to share
We don't share common friends or we don't share common foes
Which makes us seem more interesting one would have to suppose.

The Message Is You

Slapped back to my senses.
Confused to pieces once!
It wasn't easy...
Knowing then what to do!

Stung from much heartache.
That wouldn't leave me.
Broken...
Until I found out...
The message is You!

Don't know how this started.
But I knew it had to end!
Shakened on the ground I was.
Without defense,
Family or friends.

But then...
Released from set traps!
Cut from addictions that treated.
I wasn't pleased!
What choice should I choose?
On my knees I knew...
The message is you.

Slapped back to my senses.
Confused to pieces once!
It wasn't easy...
Knowing then what to do!

On my knees...
That's when I knew!
So clear to hear...
The message,
Is You!

Out The Window

Life was fun
Life was great
Til I made my big mistake
Oh no itll never happen to me
Life was short
And life was sweet
I was thinking as I hit the street
I could hardly beleve
I could scarcely conceive
But I had gone out the window
I had gone out the window
I had gone out the window
She was fine
She looked great
And so we made our big mistake
I swear I swear I swear
Itd never happen to her
But the pavement knocked her head around
When she hit the solid concrete ground
From 30 flights above
And she was thirty something loving nothing
Gone out the window
She had gone out the window
She had gone out the window
Catch me if Im falling,
Catch me if Im calling
He was smart he was wise
Hed profoundly philosophize
Empathy for all humanity
til one day by an open window
Theres a note that read
Ive gone out the window - Im dead
He said yes to life for all of his life
But then one day he said no
I gotta go out the window
We all go out the window
Catch me I am falling
Catch me I am calling
Catch me we are falling
Catch me we are calling

Never Turn Out The Light

Never turn the light out
on someone in distress.
Never turn your back
on someone’s cry for help.
Someday you maybe
in the same predicament
and it would be comforting to know,
that around the corner
there is someone who cares.
Someone to give you a hand
when you need it the most.
So never turn the light out
on someone in distress.

Tonight

Tonight
Do we have to fight again
Tonight?
I just want to go to sleep
Turn out the light
But you want to carry grudges
Oh, nine times out of ten
Oh, I see the storm approaching
Long before the rain starts falling
Tonight
Does it have to be the old thing
Tonight?
Oh, its late, too late
To chase the rainbow that youre after
Id like to find a compromise
Oh, and place it in your hands
My eyes are blind, my ears cant hear
Oh, and I cannot find the time
Tonight
Just let the curtains close in silence
Why not approach with less defiance
The man whod love to see you smile
Whod love to see you smile
Tonight
Tonight
Just let the curtains close in silence
Tonight
Why not approach with less defiance
The man whod love to see your smile
The man whod love to see your smile
The man whod love to see your smile
Tonight

Butterfly, Butterfly

Butterfly, butterfly
Your colors so bright
Where do you go
When God turns out the light?

Do you find someplace safe
That you can call home?
Or continue to flutter;
Continue to roam?

Through a buffet of flavors
Slurping nectar so sweet
Savoring a myriad of flowers
As their juices you drink.

Until your tummy's content
And you've had your fill
Now let your food settle
Until your next nectar meal.

Butterfly, butterfly,
Your colors so bright
Where do you go
When God turns out the light?

Do you continue to fly
From flower to flower
Or call it a day
Then wait out the hours?

Do you find a cozy
And comfy place
Where you're sure to show
God's beauty and grace?

Butterfly, butterfly
With colors so bright
Where do you go
When God turns out the light?

I've seen you
Many times before
At a picnic, a ballgame,
At the seashore.

Look for the beauty
God gave us to share
And we will find butterflies
Plentiful there.

Butterfly, butterfly,
Colors so bright
Where do you go
When God turns out the light?

Under My Skin

(john farrar)
Every night when youre as mean
As a ladder with a broken wrung
When I know youre sorry wont make it
From your heart to your tongue
There are nights when you keep pushing me
And I wont go on
cause when I get mad enough darlin
I will be standing my ground
But on a night like this I know I cant win
I know my soul will burn and blister
When you slide your silky whisper under my skin, oh, under my skin
When you slide your silky whisper under my skin
There are nights when every kiss
Is an order than I can obey
And I can taste the life comin
From a mile away
There are nights when you keep holdin me
But your arms are too tight
And I dont need what I want
cause what I want just dont feel right
But on a night like this I know I cant win
I know my soul will burn and blister
When you slide your silky whisper under my skin, oh, under my skin
When you slide your silky whisper under my skin
Everywhere that I go I hear your name
Spoken in whispers, spoken in shame
In shame
But on a night like this I know I cant win
I know my soul will burn and blister
When you slide your silky whisper under my skin, yeah, under my skin
Come and slide your whisper under my skin
Come and slide your whisper under my skin
Under my skin, ooh under my skin
Come and slide your whisper (under my skin)

A Poet In The Making

His words are well written
His poetry divine
He paints each poem
He writes
With a spark
He brings to life

From what I've seen
And the poems I've read
Each stanza just makes me cry

To be a poet
That gives heart and soul
It's what make's me
Proud to call him friend

I acknowledge the talent that you have
You are blessed with an angel
That guides you with your pen

Freedom Rant, Part Three... (Death Of The Poets)

humanism, capitalism,
abdicate the throne.
god on the laptop,
satan on the phone.
what we are, how near, how far,
and things we dare know touch.
recite prayers, let down your hair,
when too little is too much.
justice bartered, equality martyred,
let religion opiate the mind.
cant see or smell the guilt of blood,
when you're deaf and you're blind.
money talks, while poverty walks,
and hatred buys a gun.
anger boils, the price of oil,
and the smoke hides the sun.
desperate trance, without a chance,
children learn to close their eyes.
minds closed and lips set,
while their souls pray to die!
discriminate, segregate,
you know they're not like you.
cant hear their cries, cant feel their need,
there's nothing you can do.
follow the flag, liberty in drag,
pull their teeth they cannot bite.
when right becomes wrong,
and wrong becomes right!
heaven or hell, save yourself,
turn out the light before you strip.
masturbate, cant communicate,
your master cracks the whip.
and truth denied, narcotic lies,
but the terror lies within.
there comes a day, you cannot hide,
the trace of where you've been.
the distant shore, by boat and oars,
is as close as your hand.
the god you seek, revealed in flesh,
a woman and a man!
