Goblin Market

MORNING and evening
Maids heard the goblins cry:
"Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries-
Melons and raspberries,
Bloom-down-cheeked peaches,
Swart-headed mulberries,
Wild free-born cranberries,
Crab-apples, dewberries,
Pine-apples, blackberries,
Apricots, strawberries--
All ripe together
In summer weather--
Morns that pass by,
Fair eves that fly;
Come buy, come buy;
Our grapes fresh from the vine,
Pomegranates full and fine,
Dates and sharp bullaces,
Rare pears and greengages,
Damsons and bilberries,
Taste them and try:
Currants and gooseberries,
Bright-fire-like barberries,
Figs to fill your mouth,
Citrons from the South,
Sweet to tongue and sound to eye,
Come buy, come buy."

Evening by evening
Among the brookside rushes,
Laura bowed her head to hear,
Lizzie veiled her blushes:
Crouching close together
In the cooling weather,
With clasping arms and cautioning lips,
With tingling cheeks and finger-tips.
"Lie close," Laura said,
Pricking up her golden head:
We must not look at goblin men,
We must not buy their fruits:
Who knows upon what soil they fed
Their hungry thirsty roots?"
"Come buy," call the goblins
Hobbling down the glen.
"O! cried Lizzie, Laura, Laura,
You should not peep at goblin men."

Beppo

I.
'Tis known, at least it should be, that throughout
All countries of the Catholic persuasion,
Some weeks before Shrove Tuesday comes about,
The people take their fill of recreation,
And buy repentance, ere they grow devout,
However high their rank, or low their station,
With fiddling, feasting, dancing, drinking, masking,
And other things which may be had for asking.

II.
The moment night with dusky mantle covers
The skies (and the more duskily the better),
The time less liked by husbands than by lovers
Begins, and prudery flings aside her fetter;
And gaiety on restless tiptoe hovers,
Giggling with all the gallants who beset her;
And there are songs and quavers, roaring, humming,
Guitars, and every other sort of strumming.

III.
And there are dresses splendid, but fantastical,
Masks of all times and nations, Turks and Jews,
And harlequins and clowns, with feats gymnastical,
Greeks, Romans, Yankee-doodles, and Hindoos;
All kinds of dress, except the ecclesiastical,
All people, as their fancies hit, may choose,
But no one in these parts may quiz the clergy, —
Therefore take heed, ye Freethinkers! I charge ye.

IV.
You'd better walk about begirt with briars,
Instead of coat and smallclothes, than put on
A single stitch reflecting upon friars,
Although you swore it only was in fun;
They'd haul you o'er the coals, and stir the fires
Of Phlegethon with every mother's son,
Nor say one mass to cool the caldron's bubble
That boil'd your bones, unless you paid them double.

V.
But saving this, you may put on whate'er
You like by way of doublet, cape, or cloak.
Such as in Monmouth-street, or in Rag Fair,
Would rig you out in seriousness or joke;
And even in Italy such places are,
With prettier name in softer accents spoke,
For, bating Covent Garden, I can hit on
No place that's called "Piazza" in Great Britain.

Marmalades Revenge......Part of a long poem story

Please note... this is part of a book i am trying to write and is far from finished, based on characters i drew....or the other way round :)

'its a beautiful day, lets go for a lark' said Lady Marmalade 'i know Hyde Park! '
To her pal Lord Bailey, a short stout chap
'Oh whoopy! ' said he as he leapt on her lap
Before setting off they sat at the table
Gingham cloth, silverware as they called for Maid Mabel
Burnt toast, poached eggs, their just delight
Marmalade cross-legged
Bailey relished the sight
Mabel laid down two cups of Earl Grey
Whilst two happy chums made plans for the day

They would take Flamdunk the dog from next door
Who rarely got out, which they thought quite poor

Marmalade dashed off for her favourite toy
A bright yellow skateboard she'd took from a boy
Whilst Bailey leaned in his bestest toy box
Took out some poo sticks and some garish striped socks
His umbrella he grabbed as he dashed through the hall
Then round for Flamdunk, they went to call

The sun shone bright, flowers on parade
Smiled at Mabel who enthusiastically waved

They stood for the bus for quite a while
It arrived, they boarded, single file
Marmalade and Bailey first in the queue
Ran to the back... oh and Flamdunk did too!
They gazed out the window, so much to see
Poor Marmalade squashed, one on each knee
Dog on her left, Bailey her right
His unkempt bouffant, obscuring her sight
Sit on the seat Bailey, theres a good chap
Your crushing my knee, hurting my lap

Overexcited, unable to listen
Bailey gazed at the Thames 'Ooh how it glistens! '
'I cant said Marmalade getting hot
She gave him a shove and up she got
Moved to the seat on the opposite side
Showing Flamdunk a newly wed bride

Time rolled, the bus did too
Arrived at Hyde park, off they all flew
They got three ice-creams
A different one each
Chocolate Bailey, nut for her and Flamdink peach
Perched under a tree, watched world roll by

Jaden's Interlude

[Jada:] What are you doing?
[Jaden:] I'm just looking over there
[Jada:] You looking over there?
[Jaden:] Yeah I'm just looking at the piano
[Will:] You ready to come out yet?
[Jaden:] No
[Will:] You cool? You chillin'?
[Jaden:] Mmm hmm
[Will:] It's all good?
[Jaden:] Yeah
[Will:] You gonna be quiet when mommy is singing?
[Jaden:] Yeah
[Will:] You can talk right now though
[Jaden:] OK. How you gonna warm up?
[Jada: (clears throat)] Well hopefully if I keep doing it enough I'll get it right
[Jaden:] Mom can I have some microphones? Can I have some earphones on?
[Jada:] Uuuhhhmmm Will? I don't know if they have extra

Pasha Bailey Ben

A proud Pasha was BAILEY BEN,
His wives were three, his tails were ten;
His form was dignified, but stout,
Men called him "Little Roundabout."

HIS IMPORTANCE

Pale Pilgrims came from o'er the sea
To wait on PASHA BAILEY B.,
All bearing presents in a crowd,
For B. was poor as well as proud.

HIS PRESENTS

They brought him onions strung on ropes,
And cold boiled beef, and telescopes,
And balls of string, and shrimps, and guns,
And chops, and tacks, and hats, and buns.

MORE OF THEM

They brought him white kid gloves, and pails,
And candlesticks, and potted quails,
And capstan-bars, and scales and weights,
And ornaments for empty grates.

WHY I MENTION THESE

My tale is not of these - oh no!
I only mention them to show
The divers gifts that divers men
Brought o'er the sea to BAILEY BEN.

HIS CONFIDANT

A confidant had BAILEY B.,
A gay Mongolian dog was he;
I am not good at Turkish names,
And so I call him SIMPLE JAMES.

HIS CONFIDANT'S COUNTENANCE

A dreadful legend you might trace
In SIMPLE JAMES'S honest face,
For there you read, in Nature's print,
"A Scoundrel of the Deepest Tint."

HIS CHARACTER

A deed of blood, or fire, or flames,

Tale X

THE LOVER'S JOURNEY.

It is the Soul that sees: the outward eyes
Present the object, but the Mind descries;
And thence delight, disgust, or cool indiff'rence

rise:
When minds are joyful, then we look around,
And what is seen is all on fairy ground;
Again they sicken, and on every view
Cast their own dull and melancholy hue;
Or, if absorb'd by their peculiar cares,
The vacant eye on viewless matter glares,
Our feelings still upon our views attend,
And their own natures to the objects lend:
Sorrow and joy are in their influence sure,
Long as the passion reigns th' effects endure;
But Love in minds his various changes makes,
And clothes each object with the change he takes;
His light and shade on every view he throws,
And on each object what he feels bestows.
Fair was the morning, and the month was June,
When rose a Lover;--love awakens soon:
Brief his repose, yet much he dreamt the while
Of that day's meeting, and his Laura's smile:
Fancy and love that name assign'd to her,
Call'd Susan in the parish-register;
And he no more was John--his Laura gave
The name Orlando to her faithful slave.
Bright shone the glory of the rising day,
When the fond traveller took his favourite way;
He mounted gaily, felt his bosom light,
And all he saw was pleasing in his sight.
'Ye hours of expectation, quickly fly,
And bring on hours of bless'd reality;
When I shall Laura see, beside her stand,
Hear her sweet voice, and press her yielded hand.'
First o'er a barren heath beside the coast
Orlando rode, and joy began to boast.
'This neat low gorse,' said he, 'with golden

bloom,
Delights each sense, is beauty, is perfume;
And this gay ling, with all its purple flowers,
A man at leisure might admire for hours;
This green-fringed cup-moss has a scarlet tip,
That yields to nothing but my Laura's lip;
And then how fine this herbage! men may say
A heath is barren; nothing is so gay:
Barren or bare to call such charming scene

Hope Bailey Cruz

hope bailey cruz
died at birth
for 2 minutes
the doctors
brought her back

hope bailey cruz
heared voices
ever since that night
and what had happened
the night she was born

hope bailey cruz
nearly drowned
at age 2
her brother hunter
saved her
but her gift
never went away

hope bailey cruz
was only 8
she heared voices
and seen things
that weren't really there

hope bailey cruz
had family who
didn't believe her
the only one
who did believe
was her sister samantha
who was in grade 6

hope bailey cruz
died without a clue
her parents got fed up
with all her lying
but she was telling the truth

hope bailey cruz
got so hurt
she ran away
she ran so far
she sliped
into a big hole
in the dark
deep woods

Laura

E "Laura" aspetta un figlio per Natale
e tutto il resto adesso pu aspettare
perch Laura adesso deve
solamente riposare
e forse?!?.... smetter anche di fumare?!
E "laura" aspetta un figlio per Natale
ed sicura che ci
sar "neve...."
da quelle parti sai... non che
ci sia sempre il sole
per... non che neanche tutti
giorni "piove"!
E Laura aspetta un figlio per Natale
e tutto il resto adesso... pu aspettare
perch Laura adesso "deve"
solamente "riposare"
e forse.... smetter anche di fumare...
E laura aspetta un figlio per Natale
ed sicura che ci sar "neve"....
da quelle parti sai... non che
ci sia sempre il sole
per... non che neanche tutti
giorni "piove"!
E Laura aspetta un figlio "per errore"
per lei dice che si chiama "amore"
in ogni caso poi la gente...
sai che cosa vuole!?!
in fondo.... vuole "Natale con la neve"!
E Laura aspetta un figlio per Natale
e tutto il resto adesso pu aspettare
perch Laura adesso deve
solamente "riposare"
e forse.... smetter anche di fumare

Baby Let's Swing

Laura, i saw you open in la
There's something i gotta say
Laura, you know it's really been such a long, long time
And you know laura, i knew you'd make it good someday
And you knew it anyway
Laura, i know that maybe this is the wrong, wrong time
But laura where did that magic go
It's so hard, it's so cold down here
Did you have to leave me behind?
I wish that i could make it
But how i love to shuffle (how i love to shuffle)
Baby let's swing
Now i love to shuffle
Ever since i heard you sing (since i heard her sing)
Laura, i saw you in that magazine
You looked like a gypsy queen
Laura, i beat around the bush 'cause it's oh so hard
But you know laura, it's not the best it's ever been
I think you know what i mean
I wish you'd take a look in your own back yard
To see that someone has seen it all
Seen you climb, seen you fall so low
If you have to leave it behind
I'll carry it on for ya, 'cause it's oh so hard
Baby let's swing
Now i love to shuffle
Ever since i heard you sing

Laura Days

Dreaming to-day in a forest green
Where the great gums rake the sky,
My thoughts turn back to another scene
And to old days, long gone by;
To a land of youth, and a youth's employ,
And - to filch another's phrase -
To the men who were boys, when I was a boy,
In the long gone Laura days.

To a little town that nestles down
By the hills of Beetaloo,
Where a youth dreamed dreams of fair renown,
And a man's ambition grew,
'Twas here his earliest songs were sung
And he won his earliest praise
From men who were young when he was young
In the long gone Laura days.

Spicer, Stockdale, Ballantyne,
Marrie, Mitchell and Braund;
How many a right good pal of mine
Has gone from that sunlit land.
How many a man, how many a lad,
Whose head now slowly greys,
To a song grew glad as I grew glad
In those long gone Laura days.

Susman, Sibly and Dr Cook,
Blume and Barrington,
Oh! the lives of some are a long-closed book,
But many a tale runs on.
Hollis and Harvey, Chandler, Green
Are gone their various ways,
But I see them all in the olden scene
Of the long gone Laura days.

I see them still, I see the town
Under those scrub-clad hills,
The shops where the quiet street runs down,
Wilson, Rowland, Bills.
Taylor, Weste, Felstead too,
Cole of the kindly ways,
And many other friends I knew
In the long gone Laura days.

And the names of some come slow to mind,
But the faces greet me clear,
And I hold them all as men most kind,
As I hold the old town dear;
And so in memory to the end

Fantasie -- To Laura

Name, my Laura, name the whirl-compelling
Bodies to unite in one blest whole--
Name, my Laura, name the wondrous magic
By which soul rejoins its kindred soul!

See! it teaches yonder roving planets
Round the sun to fly in endless race;
And as children play around their mother,
Checkered circles round the orb to trace.

Every rolling star, by thirst tormented,
Drinks with joy its bright and golden rain--
Drinks refreshment from its fiery chalice,
As the limbs are nourished by the brain.

'Tis through Love that atom pairs with atom,
In a harmony eternal, sure;
And 'tis Love that links the spheres together--
Through her only, systems can endure.

Were she but effaced from Nature's clockwork,
Into dust would fly the mighty world;
O'er thy systems thou wouldst weep, great Newton,
When with giant force to chaos hurled!

Blot the goddess from the spirit order,
It would sink in death, and ne'er arise.
Were love absent, spring would glad us never;
Were love absent, none their God would prize!

What is that, which, when my Laura kisses,
Dyes my cheek with flames of purple hue,
Bids my bosom bound with swifter motion,
Like a fever wild my veins runs through?

Every nerve from out its barriers rises,
O'er its banks, the blood begins to flow;
Body seeks to join itself to body,
Spirits kindle in one blissful glow.

Powerful as in the dead creations
That eternal impulses obey,
O'er the web Arachne-like of Nature,--
Living Nature,--Love exerts her sway.

Laura, see how joyousness embraces
E'en the overflow of sorrows wild!
How e'en rigid desperation kindles
On the loving breast of Hope so mild.

song - The Long Goodbye

I rarely thought of you
'til you finally broke through
I thought the story was complete
When we talked back in ninety three
I thought that was enough my love
But now love’s legionnaires have come

And Alison I’m thinking of
All the little things too much
Like how your d n a and such
Wove a spiders web of love and touch
into something almost glorious

But rarely could forget
That strange chemistry that crept
Between us, then entangled us
And didn’t understand at first
You know that I was crushed my love
By overwhelming chemicals

But Alison I’m thinking now
‘bout your fingernails and how
Those firetrails of thrill raced round
on my throat, and here, in this far town
and the girl my world turned round without

No, really, it was you
There was nothing I could do
We think that life is ours to choose
But passion rules and cold light rues
Predestination left us cold
And now we watch the past unfold

But Alison I can’t forget
Holding you inside room 10
The lack of light in discotheques
How it felt when dancing to “je t’aime”
How you curled your hair against your neck

And Alison, oh Alison
Here, across the Rubicon
Our long goodbye seems so long gone -
Cat and mouse we blew the game of love -
But yet, something holy lingers on

The Yew-Berry

I
I call this idle history the ‘Berry of the Yew;
Because there's nothing sweeter than its husk of scarlet glue,
And nothing half so bitter as its black core bitten through.
I loved, saw hope, and said so; learn'd that Laura loved again:
Why speak of joy then suffer'd? My head throbs, and I would fain
Find words to lay the spectre starting now before my brain.
She loved me: all things told it; eye to eye, and palm to palm:
As the pause upon the ceasing of a thousand-voiced psalm
Was the mighty satisfaction and the full eternal calm.
On her face, when she was laughing, was the seriousness within;
Her sweetest smiles, (and sweeter did a lover never win,)
In passing, grew so absent that they made her fair cheek thin.
On her face, when she was speaking, thoughts unworded used to live;
So that when she whisper'd to me, ‘Better joy Earth cannot give,’
Her following silence added, ‘But Earth's joy is fugitive.’
For there a nameless something, though suppress'd, still spread around;
The same was on her eyelids, if she look'd towards the ground;
In her laughing, singing, talking, still the same was in the sound;—
A sweet dissatisfaction, which at no time went away,
But shadow'd on her spirit, even at its brightest play,
That her mirth was like the sunshine in the closing of the day.

II
Let none ask joy the highest, save those who would have it end
There's weight in earthly blessings; they are earthy, and they tend,
By predetermin'd impulse, at their highest, to descend.
I still for a happy season, in the present, saw the past,
Mistaking one for the other, feeling sure my hold was fast
On that of which the symbols vanish'd daily: but, at last,
As when we watch bright cloud-banks round about the low sun ranged,
We suddenly remember some rich glory gone or changed,
All at once I comprehended that her love was grown estranged.
From this time, spectral glimpses of a darker fear came on:
They came; but, since I scorn'd them, were no sooner come than gone.—
At times, some gap in sequence frees the spirit, and, anon,
We remember states of living ended ere we left the womb,
And see a vague aurora flashing to us from the tomb,
The dreamy light of new states, dash'd tremendously with gloom.
We tremble for an instant, and a single instant more
Brings absolute oblivion, and we pass on as before!
Ev'n so those dreadful glimpses came, and startled, and were o'er.

III
One morning, one bright morning, Wortley met me. He and I,
As we rode across the country, met a friend of his. His eye
Caught Wortley's, who rode past him. ‘What,’ said he, ‘pass old friends by?
So I've heard your game is grounded! Why your life's one long romance

Admiral Nelson

When I was a child, in the Forest of Dean
We would play 'hunt deer', like a King or a Queen,
We would hide in the forest 'til the sun went down
Then hurry off in terror from old man Brown.

He lived in the forest in a house on a hill
And he wore torn shirts and a hat of brown twill,
He carried round a gun that he fired in the air
When he saw us picking berries in the trees up there.

He lived with his sister who was Emily Maude
Who had never even married, she was much too odd.
To impressionable children, a frightening pair -
He with his shotgun, she with her hair.

For her hair blew wild, neither brushed nor combed
And it flew all over like a witch, old crone,
But she loved little children, so our parents said,
And warned, 'stay away, 'cause she's soft in the head! '

On All Hallows Eve we were up in the oak
Like brave Robin Hood, I was dressed in a cloak,
An old green scarf that my mother threw out
That I thought was impressive as a camouflage coat.

There was Jock, Jim, Sandy, then Elaine and me
We were up in the branches, in the boughs of the tree
While down keeping watch was Ashley on the ground,
Getting tired and sleepy as the day wound down.

So it was, she never heard the old man come
But soon, there he was, and was carrying his gun,
And Ashley was caught by the collar of her coat
While the sounds of her screams just died in her throat.

He lined us all up and marched us up the hill
At the point of his gun, and against our will,
And he said, 'Aunt Emmy's set you up for a treat,
For it's All Hallow's Eve - so, all you can eat! '

He marched us to the house, in a cold, dark room
We could barely see each other in the dark, in the gloom
Then he sat us at a table with a stained veneer
And he called, 'Hey Emmy, all the guests are here! '

She slid into the room like a wraith from a mist
And we all jumped together for she scared us to bits,
But she said, 'Now, children, there is no need to fret,
Tonight we'll have a party with the best fun yet.'

Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The laugh that floats on a summer night
That you can never quite recall
And you see laura on the train that is passing through

(mercer/raskin - additional lyrics by carly simon)
Lead-in with haunting:
Theres always someone, haunting someone, haunting someone,
I cant sleep easy, cause Im afraid of dreaming
And then the memory of the dream
Theres always someone, haunting someone, haunting someone
Laura is the face in the misty night
Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The laugh that floats on a summers night
That you might never quite recall
And you see laura on a train that is passing through
Those eyes how familiar they seem
She gave your very first kiss to you
That was laura but shes only a dream
She gave your very first kiss to you

Yes she gave your very first kiss to you
That was laura, but shes only a dream
A dream, a dream

Laura Said It Wasn't Red

Look real quickly over there
The hottest girl with auburn hair
She's a beauty not a queen
Queens don't come in red and green

Redhead hot now it's your turn
She will make your fingers burn
Laura said, 'it isn't red!
' 'Auburn is it's shade instead'

Redheads quickly fog my glasses
Redheads have the hottest asses
Watch out for their terse replies
Redheads wise and cause demise

I loved Laura with hair not red
Then i begged her into bed
Laura's body was divine
The demise was mine all mine

Laura begged me into bed
Laura said her hair ain't red
Who am i to disagree?
She took my virginity

Alison

Oh it's so funny to be seeing you after so long, girl.
And with the way you look i understand
That you are not impressed.
But i heard you let that little friend of mine
Take off your party dress.
I'm not going to get too sentimental
Like those other sticky valentines,
'cause i don't know if you've been loving somebody.
I only know it isn't mine.
Alison, i know this world is killing you.
Oh, alison, my aim is true.
Well i see you've got a husband now.
Did he leave your pretty fingers lying
In the wedding cake?
You used to hold him right in your hand.
I'll bet he took all he could take.
Sometimes i wish that i could stop you from talking
When i hear the silly things that you say.
I think somebody better put out the big light,
Cause i can't stand to see you this way.
Alison, i know this world is killing you.
Oh, alison, my aim is true.
My aim is true.
