It Is Wonderful That There Are So Many Small Children In Israel

IT IS WONDERFUL THAT THERE ARE SO MANY SMALL CHILDREN IN ISRAEL

It is wonderful that there are so many small children in Israel
I see them everywhere and am happy when I see them.
Do they make up or compensate in some way for the million and one half Jewish children murdered a generation or two ago?
Nothing makes up for even one life lost
That we know.

But still seeing these children one invariably thinks of those other Jewish children-
I don't understand it at all-

It is wonderful that there are so many small children in Israel
Children are a great blessing and the hope of their parents and grandparents lives-

God Bless and protect these children
And let them never know the hatred the suffering the cruelty
Children no less innocent than them knew
A generation or two ago.

The Trouble with Snowmen

'The trouble with snowmen,'
Said my father one year
'They are no sooner made
than they just disappear.

I'll build you a snowman
And I'll build it to last
Add sand and cement
And then have it cast.

And so every winter,'
He went on to explain
'You shall have a snowman
Be it sunshine or rain.'

And that snowman still stands
Though my father is gone
Out there in the garden
Like an unmarked gravestone.

Staring up at the house
Gross and misshapen
As if waiting for something
Bad to happen.

For as the years pass
And I grow older
When summers seem short
And winters colder.

The snowmen I envy
As I watch children play
Are the ones that are made
And then fade away.

The Trouble With Love Is

Love can be a many splendored thing
Cant deny the joy it brings
A dozen roses, diamond rings
Dreams for sale and fairy tales
Itll make you hear a symphony
And you just want the world to see
But like a drug that makes you blind,
Itll fool ya every time.
The trouble with love is
It can tear you up inside
Make your heart believe a lie
Its stronger than your pride.
The trouble with love is
It doesnt care how fast you fall
And you cant refuse the call
See, you got no say at all.
Every time I turn around
I think I got it all figured out
My heart keeps calling and I keep on falling
Tears my heart in two
The trouble with love is
Its in your heart, its in your soul (doesnt care how fast you fall)
Youre losin all control
(and you cant refuse the call, and you got no say at all)

There Are So Many Ways Of Loving

you know that.
you lovely woman, you know what love is.
you know much better than me
for i am a bitter man
the one who loved so well and yet lost
that love and never found it again.

there are so many ways of loving
you know that
and i will not tell you anymore
i have loved you once
and i think that was all enough.

There Are Too Many Contradictions In A Life

There Are Too Many Contradictions In A Life

There are too many contradictions in a life
to ever write that life down in perfect clarity.

All we can do is select moments of our experience
and make of our great pretensions little Poems.

The whole Truth is a different Poem
one too subtle for us to completely write.

The Stars Do Not Know That They Are Stars

THE STARS DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY ARE STARS

The stars do not know that they are stars
They do not know how violent they are-
They do not know they inspire human dreams
They do not know that they are more distant than they seem-

The stars do not know that they are stars
They do not know we do not see them as they are-
They do not know that trillions of transformations from now
They will not even be gaseous clouds.

The Trouble With Never

(track 1 - time 4:14)
(tony martin/mark nesler)
If I never think about her, Ill never miss her at all
Never wonder what shes doin, never give her a call
Never see her again and Ill be free as a bird
But the trouble with never is never, never works
If I never bring her flowers, Ill never see her smile
If I never try to kiss her, shell never drive me wild
And Ill never feel the need to say those three little words
But the trouble with never is never, never works
I know how to stay carefree, let no one get a hold on me
But I cant keep my hands off her
Theres something different bout this girl
If I never let me love her, Ill never settle down
And Ill never put roots in this God forsaken town
And Ill never say I do or step foot in a church
But the trouble with never is never, never works
I know how to stay carefree, let no one put a hold on me
But I cant keep my hands off her
Theres something different bout this girl
If I never think about her, Ill never miss her at all
Never wonder what shes doin, never give her a call
Never see her again, and Ill be free as a bird
Oh, but the trouble with never is never, never works
Yeah, the trouble with never is never, never works
At least not with her

There Are So Many Ways Of Making Poetry

THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS OF MAKING POETRY

There are many ways of making Poetry
Some make poetry simply
As I do –
Others are richer by far.
Some like the surface
And others like hidden depths and mysteries.
There are many ways of making poetry
I have only one which is my own
But there are so so many others
More beautiful and deep and perhaps more everlasting.

There are times that I am at peace

There are times
that I am at peace, in tranquillity
with the world surrounding me
even with my enemies
who in a godlike way
judged me, stole my life
my job from me
with a certainty of the perfect correctness
of their actions and decisions
without having all the facts, without walking
in my shoes, without judging me on merit.

There are times
when the world seems a friendly place,
where I see great beauty
in the way that the world functions,
in every shrub, every flower and tree.

There are times where I am free
from men who take political decisions
about my future, where I am free from the military
free from the influence, the mangling of men

and then there are times when I know
how much you mean to me,
where the meaning, the sheer beauty
compassion and joy that you bring
floods me like an everlasting spring.

There Are Many Roads To Take

at this point in my life
there are always many roads to take
the options are limitless
the roads looking like hairs
and fibers and swirling octopuses
so confusing
so tempting to take those
that make me happy

but i have decided
to take this rougher road
with you, my love

i have taken your hand
i have given my word

that is the difference

David Do Not Say That You Are Not A Poet

in terms of
the word written
telling something
that there is something inside you
that clicks
and beats and screams and calms down
like a slam
of a door from someone who decides
finally to leave
in terms of disbelief
about what happens on the day
when you are struck
with sadness
the poems begin to grow in your mind
and they become trees
and trees
are poems and so
be frank to admit now that
you are a poet

lousy or what.

Grace the world with your glow of happiness

Do not chase happiness
Search within you
There are lot many things
Inside you
Which have reasons
To make you happy
You pursuit or search for happiness outside
Does not take you anywhere
As what seemingly has a stock of happiness
Once you reach or achieve it
You realize that happiness
Lies further ahead somewhere
And you hunt for happiness
Takes a new turn
And this goes on and on
Only to make you understand
That you are back in square one
Devoid of happiness, your original search
Happiness, thus, cannot be anywhere else
But within you
Do not be on a stealthy stalk for happiness
Simply because others do so
Search within and discover
The happiness in you
Do not be on a race for happiness
But grace the world
With the glow of
Happiness within you

I dance with the Gods and Goddesses

i could have danced away
in the lotus bloom,
the wood that
comes to life
under the hands
of a master carver.
my eyes fleet from
one sacred countenance
to the next,
the prelude to the
mystic dance
i am drawn to do
with the
gods and goddesses.
the first step
i learn from the
KuangYing (goddess of mercy)
with a thousand hands,
so graceful
and delicate
they curl to
form an arc
above her.
my heart
goes afflutter,
my limbs soft
my soul flies
in her gaze.
if i could
just possess
two of those
wonderful hands,
i would
swing them
in the
ballet world.
the sakyamuni
buddha in his
meditative stance -
the depth
that it brings
my heart to
the sacred world -
that empty realm
and sanctum
where everything
goes quiet to
let god take
centrestage;
those seconds
in any
dance show
where the
audience's mind
is led to
run on
infinity,
every dancer
still like me
enthralled
at the buddha's
magic and spiritual aura.
the laughing budda
with his potbelly
i nearly stumble
in my urge to
touch, to rub off
some luck
to level my
years of financial
inadequacy.
and i stand aghast
at the drunken Monk
in torn fabrics
with his mouth tightly
squeezed against
a wine gourd
reminiscent of
a baby suckling
from a mom's
succulent breast.
the whiskered
Kuang Kong (god of war)
in that familiar
honorable martial pose
with his large spear
inspires anybody's
sense of patriotism
and readiness
to make that leap
for action to protect
one's nation.
these multi-faceted gods
and goddesses
boil up my sense
of humour
in the joy
that there are
so many wondrous characters
in the heavens
waiting to light up my life
if i were lucky to enter them.
l saunter through the hall
with the ramayana
gods and goddesses
in caves, in lotuses, on rocks
sending me off
to the real world.
i dance the last
few steps that
herald me back
to the mundane world
.....of toil and pain, senses
a world these gods and goddesses
decide to sacrfice their own paradise
to get me out of.

(rayamana buddhist deities are deities
who forgo their own chance to go
into their heavens temporarily so that they could remain in the human realm to help
mankind get out of the grim cycle of reincarnation)
