Life Is A Teacher

Life is a teacher, which teaches how to live.
Life is a teacher, which teaches how to win.
Life is a teacher, which teaches how to laugh.
Life is a teacher, which teaches how to make other people cry.
Life is a teacher, which teaches how to love.
Life is a teacher, which teaches how to hate.
Life is a teacher, which teaches how to win honour.

Indeed, life is a great teacher as it teaches everything.
And in this very greatness lies life's weakness, that it teaches everything.

Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day

Meanwhile back in the year one --- when you belonged to no-one ---
You didnt stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
'cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society ---
One day youll wake up in the present day ---
A million generations removed from expectations
Of being who you really want to be.
Skating away ---
Skating away ---
Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.
So as you push off from the shore,
Wont you turn your head once more --- and make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay,
Will live just one more day ---
To do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness:
You feel you have to pray.
Looking for a sign
That the universal mind (!) has written you into the passion play.
Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.
And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind ---

In figure skating

In figure skating its the small triumphs that matter the most.
When you can't get back all the time lost.

I had a lot of fun landing an axel.
To me it was almost felt like landing a triple axel.
I know it was only a small triumph but to me it was wonderful.

I never was able to get many hours of practice.
I did my best on the ice.
All figure skaters work hard to have patience.
They may never know if they will recieve their biggest
or smallest triumph.
Even If I went back and landed a triple axel.
I would still look back fondly on my small triumph.
To be honest though the axel to me is my greatest triumph.

An axel was like setting myself free.
If your thinking that small triumphs are great.
I would love to agree.

In figure skating people are always coming and going.
Not many of them get to experience the power of jumping.
Some of them will never know.
An axel feels like a bird or plane flying.
A lot of them will never come back because of the fear of falling.
So anyones triumph could be not quiting.
The smallest triumphs should never be put down because this is
a figure skaters very beginning.

Every figure skaters story deserves to be told.
Even if they never won an olympic or any type of gold.
A figure skater must have joy or her sport will get old.
So please don't underestimate small triumphs in figure skating.

Meant to Be Overheard

Listen to them...
And you can tell,
What kinds of people they are.
And what they value,
Most!
What they boast about!
And how that is done well.

It's important to them,
Where they live.
And the prices of the homes,
In their neighborhoods.

It's important to them,
Who they know.
And where they socialize,
At the private clubs they go!

It's important to them,
What they drive.
And the number of vehicles they own.
What they purchase and where they shop!
The prices paid.
To which charities they give.
And the amounts they gave!

How many degrees they have.
Which schools they were on the honor roll.
The training of their pets.

Relative to Causal Initiative Paradox - After Auden - Breughel

Was Auden right to write Art was not wrong -
on canvas or through written word, to state
all little matters outside isolate
fate which squeezes, seizes in its tong
souls who - as Gray said - from madding throng
scarce ventured out, immune to stale debate
on cause, effect, affecting their estate.

The Old Masters, however, understood
human fragility, how we replace
extraordinary events, prefer the commonplace where we feel strong within our element. As then, all mark life-cycles but our waiting
is not breath 'taking' bait abating. Miracles few see
as part and parcel of modernity,
while often sibling rivalry's thin ice-skating
along the dotted line society
dictates for thinking as they 'ought to should.'
We should 'bear' in mind that life expectancy
was nearer forty (women thirty - childbirth took its toll) -
than three score years and ten, today's retirement age
when we have filled our work résumés page
as martyrs to global capitalistic cause.

Everywhere in some corner, or untidy spot,
dogs go on with their doggy life and transvestite coarse
scratches sin_nocent up a gum tree.

Although in Breughel's Icarus, everything turns away
quite leisurely from the disaster, though plowman may
have heard brash splash, observed, forsaken cry,

as always, on white legs disappearing into green
water; while some asea might see
something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
importance seemed some port of call. All sailed calmly on.

Though siren songs of progress spur Man higher,
like Icarus, beware ambitions' fire!

Conservatives of every hue
advance that common caveat -
whenever faced with something new
they seldom fail to smell a rat.

Death Row

Guilty by association
Guilty due to unusual circumstances
Guilty by act of contrition
Keep on taking chances
Some lives are not important
Justice is purchased like hot bagels
If you are poor, you can easily find yourselves under the barrels
Some lives are not important
The bulldozer has plenty of time to differentiate
To choose, to pick and to discriminate
Be at the wrong place at an odd time
Is enough to find a pauper guilty of a first degree crime
It is criminal to be on death row
It is illegal and unconscionable to be so low
When the subject is forced to admit guilt
Where Judge and Prosecutors, members of the cult
Plot to convict an innocent bystander
Some lives are not important
This is sad, the jurors are the clowns of the slaughter house
A human being wearing trousers and a white blouse
Should not be treated like a nymph of the meteor crater.

In reality, under the clouds, there is no justice
Somewhere under the cave, there is a long list
Of countless children of the gods
Which have been executed by all types of cruel methods
Some lives are not important
“Thou shall not kill”, is no longer part
Of the Ten Commandments. The machine has no heart
No soul and no sense of fairness

This society of savagery and wilderness
Has to change for the better. The killing has to end
The lynching has to stop. Serious men and women must amend

Retirement

Hackney'd in business, wearied at that oar,
Which thousands, once fast chain'd to, quit no more,
But which, when life at ebb runs weak and low,
All wish, or seem to wish, they could forego;
The statesman, lawyer, merchant, man of trade,
Pants for the refuge of some rural shade,
Where, all his long anxieties forgot
Amid the charms of a sequester'd spot,
Or recollected only to gild o'er
And add a smile to what was sweet before,
