Closer to Happiness

What do you get when you run away from
a predator? You get exactly what I'm
writing about: something chasing after
you. Not letting you go.

Walk around the house,
It's sunny outside.
It's nice,
Warm,
Pretty.
Then I hear the first of the
Trucks and I know
It's not going to end well.

No matter how far I get,
It always catches up to me.

I keep running.
Running away from all the hurt,
All the pain,
All the pessimism and all the suffering.
I keep running.
Running away from all the death,
All the heartbreak,
All the cancer and all the disease.
Trying to get farther from all that,
Closer to happiness.

He was a truck driver,
We saw him every once in a while.
It was nice,
Something we could rely on,
Then his cancer acted up again,
The chemo and radiation started,
And being a pessimist really sucked.
Being a realist sucks even more.

No matter how far I get,
It always catches up with me.

I keep running.
Running away from all the hurt,
All the pain,
All the pessimism and all the suffering.
I keep running.
Running away from all the death,
All the heartbreak,
All the cancer and all the disease.
Trying to get farther from all that,
Closer to happiness.

Don't ever become a pessimist... a pessimist is correct oftener than an optimist, but an optimist has more fun, and neither can stop the march of events.

Agence Nationale Pour l'Emploi Rue Blanche 0589 Current Version

A waiting-room where worries surface soon,
Nor may be dissipated, jobless list
Perversely daily grows, and pessimist
Emphatically are all who lampoon
Realities unjust as stage buffoon.
Useless to call, the problems will persist.
Employment rates fall further, chances missed
Black tarnish barrow boy and silver spoon.
Life hangs between the optimist who'd croon
A ceaseless siren song whose very gist
No sad end entertains, and realist
Caught by statistics which won't play 'le clown'.
'Heaven helps him who helps himself' is said,
Expressing wishful thinking's leaps ahead.

All are optimists and pessimists

Solely optimists or solely pessimists
Are absent. An optimist in winter
And a pessimist in autumn one turns.
Optimists are youths and pessimist, the old.

I am an optimist, unrepentant and militant. After all, in order not to be a fool an optimist must know how sad a place the world can be. It is only the pessimist who finds this out anew every day.

Dead nights

Dark clouds run to cover sun’s face,
With sparkling lights to join the race,
Descending on earth with malign intent,
Fear, destruction all with dreaded content,

Pin dropp silence in midst of night,
Not a ray of hope or slight light,
Little scuffle or fierce fight,
All noticed with powerful sight,

Dead night represent people pessimist,
No hope of revival as done by optimist,
Passim is t wait for ship to be sunk,
Optimist tries to drag even if drunk,

One remains always awake
Even nothing is at stake,
Person with controlled wishes,
Even water is disturbed with movement of fishes,

Holy soul departs at mid night,
Path is set with precision and right,
Evil doer’s absence may not be missed,
Good and light will always be noticed,

Nights represent bleak future and gloom,
Even flowers feel shame and not boom,
All wrong doings done at night,
People may thin it is path right,

Night is not all that bad,
Proper time to remain calm and sad,
All energy to cool and find some rest,
Preparation for next day’s fight for best,

Run for cover

Dark clouds run to cover sun’s face,
with intermittent lightening to join the race,
Descending on earth with malign intent,
Fear, destruction all with dreaded content,

Pin dropp silence prevails at midnight
there is great impact of falling light
Stars may loose sometimes their tail
We will catch the sight and not fail

Little murmur can be heard even if spoken with care
You may think to adjust here and there
The noise of little scuffle or fierce fight, may puzzle
Everything is noticed when rain start and dazzle

Dead night makes person to think bad make pessimist
No hope of revival as is one in the case of optimist
Pessimism sometimes may lead to the sinking of ship
Optimist may try to salvage the ship by issuing whip

One must remain alert and awake
Even if nothing is concerned to him or is at stake
Person should control his anger and wishes,
How water is not disturbed with movement of fishes

Mid night fear is very deep in the minds of individual
He is frightened and doesn’t take it as casual
It is propagated that holy souls depart at night
It is deep rooted in mind and seems very right,

Evil doer’s absence may not be noticed or missed;
good and right people will always be remembered and noticed
Nights descend with gloom and dull feelings
No one may prefer to venture out with willingness

Nights represent bleak future for all times to come
Any unpleasant things may not be welcome
Even flowers feel shame and not boom
We try to confine and remain in closed room

Why all wrong doings takes place at night,
why do we prefer and consider it right?
Night is not all that bad but place to seek refuge
Dreams may offer solace with fresh ideas to infuse

Nights may offer very calm and cool atmosphere
Person may resort to any ideas without any fear
it is preparation for next days strategy with precision
it may influence the course of action with correct decision

The Laughter Therapy

(I)
Every morning the ritual is the same, -
I say my prayers and take His name;
As I settle down to read the papers, –
About our politician’s famous ‘blame game’!
It is then I always hear, loud peals of laughter
from our adjacent park,
A man dedicated to laughter therapy,
With his loud guffaw and reverberating bark!
Trying to resolve this laughing mystery, -
I read several articles about Laughter Therapy!

(II)
Amongst all created things and living beings,
Man alone suffers deeply in his body, mind,
and soul;
With peals of laughter he must suppress his tears,
To balance this life and control!
Yet during those rare and supreme happy moments
of life, -
Tears are seen to well-up in our eyes!
Laughter gets mingled with our tears, -
I wonder why? !
Perhaps laughter and tears are two sides,
Of the same coin of our worldly life!
While our lacrymal glands perform this feat, -
As laughter and tears join hands to make this
life complete!
(III)
While hearty, non-ridiculing and connecting
laughter does provide,
Physiological, psychological and spiritual
benefits - on hindsight!
Laughter brings a twinkle in our eyes, destroying
our conservative reputation;
Improving our cardiovascular flexibility, increasing
our spiritual quotient!
Laughter like internal jogging, gives us an internal
massaging;
Performed both silently and rapidly beyond imagining!
Revitalizing those unexplored internal crannies –
all automatic!
Far better than all our know antibiotics!
Laughter a tranquilizer without side effects,
Releases our pent-up tension relaxing us instead!

(IV)
An optimist always laughs to forget, while a pessimist
forgets to laugh,
My man in the park is perhaps an optimist,

Fall Of The World's Own Optimist

(elvis costello/aimee mann)
There's no charity in you
And that surprises me
I guess i thought you were a golden idol
'cause i called you majesty
On the balustrade
You watched me hunt for tips i was obliged to pick up
From the passing trade
Chorus:
Hey, kids--look at this
It's the fall of the world's own optimist
I could get back up if you insist
But you'll have to ask politely
'cause the eggshells i've been treading
Couldn't spare me a beheading
And i'll know i had it coming
From a caesar who was only slumming
Hey, kids--look at this
It's the fall of the world's own optimist
Well, i could have objections
Which you could override
But what's the point--we're only flogging the horse
When the horseman has up and died
Once i testified
And swore i'd never leave a stone unturned--
I bet you're really glad that i lied
Chorus
Hey, kids--look at this
It's the fall of the world's own optimist
I could get back up if you insist
But you'll have to ask politely
Yes, you'll have to ask politely
Yes, you'll have to ask

Stuck In Limbo

Me and all my naive thoughts, sometimes I wish they would just all shut up.
It's not like that could ever happen I keep telling myself.
Trying to stay a realist even as I aspire to reach a higher calling.
And thoughts linger of time spent upon these dreams.
Hoping they are not a waste in the melting pot.
I sorry sir, It's not editable.
That I wouldn't even wouldn't even feed to my dog.
Boy, thanks for all the encouragement mr. realist.
Maybe I should rip up a idea not yet even put upon the paper and jump off a bridge in to water fridgid cold.
If I was to continue in such self pity I would drown.
Instead I move on, knowing not the road in which I follow.
But still I walk down it.
I'm not ashamed because I still don't even know who I am.
Yes a man but of what kind.
Am I of the good as I try to be?
Hard working, but of the work is it time wasted.
How many times can you look in to a black abyss and come out the same.
Damaged and no way out.
With every negative thought rings upon more and more doubt.
If I can't believe in myself how can I ever truly trust.
Come on now pull it together and just be tough.
Even in times so grim, at least I'm alive and kicking.
A fish still flopping upon the water.
But the splashes are no where big enough.
Not even a ripple will reach most.
I am but a mere empty shell?
The soul has long left this body.
Leaving everything just so cold.
My hands become the ice.
And anything I touch becomes just as frozen.
Stuck in a constant limbo.
It is as inanimate object.
It will never move on it own.
A life to always be lived alone.

My hands are tied

my hands are tied

i paint with fingers
safely stored in
my heart chambers
and an ever ready canvas
at the back of my mind
to dribble you down
into surreal, realist,
impressionistic and
modernist lines

there are so many
parts of you that inspire

your soft lips are
a tube of pastel pink
it dissolves and
runs through my body
an engaging spasmodic
touch and shade

your eyes are apples
gleaming dew on grass
glittering diamonds

your round shapely fingers
to put magic into them
is to work the bristles
the way lips would run through them

your ears are celestial drums
reverberating through
a landscape of creation
that revels in a world of art

your gait is a realist's fetish
it works step by step
inch by inch
a savoir faire
my heart pines to pour
into everybody's cup of tea

such blurry fiery
simmering
dreamlike night
who would i paint but you?

the fireworks bursts in
blue, pink and green

The Climate Change Converts

After eleven years as Prime Minister it does seem quite strange
That John Howard the ageing politician is talking of climate change
But this after all is an Election year
And of losing the top job is now his greatest fear.

For eleven years warnings of climate change he chose to ignore
But climate change has become an Election issue as never before
Howard the climate change convert on combating climate change now leads the way
On climate change he has become an instant expert and on it has much to say.

His opponent for the top job Kevin Rudd is a climate change convert too
It is amazing what an Election can do
To the climate change realist voters they are trying to appeal
Of climate change suddenly they make a big deal.

The ideas of the climate change experts Howard and Rudd now embrace
As their moment of truth they are about to face
The climate realist voters they are trying to appease
But try as they will not everyone they will please.

Last Kisses

Last kisess leading on from those first
Sweet wishes, oh I had such a thrist,
Insatiable for a blissful few months, now
Has it dried out this soon, so soon, how?
I was too eager, gave too much of a shove,
But is this too much with the one you love?

(You demanded rhyming verse,
perhaps you'll soon see it's a curse.)

Mais,
Je t'aime quand-meme.
Mais,
Je suis trop jeune pour aimer.
Who's too young for love though?
The romantic in me says everyone,
the pessimist (realist?) says no one.

Why pamper life's complexities when
a purchase at the Lafayette brings
an equal amount of momentary joy
as those beautiful first kisses.
And on the streets of Paris both are equally found.
Oh liberte,
Oh egalite, toujours, toujours.
So if I know anything (tis doubtful, for sure)
when there's no one to love or to love me,
toujours, Paris, je t'aime.
