With A 'Cup' Full Of Sugar

With a 'cup' full of sugar,
Reality will be squeezed out.
A reality will be squeezed out.
Yes,
A reality will be squeezed out.

And with a 'cup' full of sugar,
Reality will be squeezed out...
In every hopeful,
Pain...
Less,
Way!

Goblin Market

MORNING and evening
Maids heard the goblins cry:
"Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries-
Melons and raspberries,
Bloom-down-cheeked peaches,
Swart-headed mulberries,
Wild free-born cranberries,
Crab-apples, dewberries,
Pine-apples, blackberries,
Apricots, strawberries--
All ripe together
In summer weather--
Morns that pass by,
Fair eves that fly;
Come buy, come buy;
Our grapes fresh from the vine,
Pomegranates full and fine,
Dates and sharp bullaces,
Rare pears and greengages,
Damsons and bilberries,
Taste them and try:
Currants and gooseberries,
Bright-fire-like barberries,
Figs to fill your mouth,
Citrons from the South,
Sweet to tongue and sound to eye,
Come buy, come buy."

Evening by evening
Among the brookside rushes,
Laura bowed her head to hear,
Lizzie veiled her blushes:
Crouching close together
In the cooling weather,
With clasping arms and cautioning lips,
With tingling cheeks and finger-tips.
"Lie close," Laura said,
Pricking up her golden head:
We must not look at goblin men,
We must not buy their fruits:
Who knows upon what soil they fed
Their hungry thirsty roots?"
"Come buy," call the goblins
Hobbling down the glen.
"O! cried Lizzie, Laura, Laura,
You should not peep at goblin men."

You Run With The Pack

(m&l - grosskopf)
To give what I got, to take what I need to live, it aint easy for me,
Darken my eyes, tell me lies, but all nice, tell me how I have to be,
Get me in your foolish game, destroy my defence, lock me in,
Throw me in your lions cage, cos then Im out of your way,
Cry with the wolves, run with the pack,
Turn around to save your neck,
cos someone always keeps you in confusion,
Squeezed in a box, wholl win the race,
Ask no questions in this case,
Whats left is only you and your illusions,
Charity is all your duty, they preach you: sharing your goods is your pride,
Patriotic-love, kill the enemy first, I can hear the other side,
Whats the way out of this game? youll either win or you lose,
I run in circles, whos to blame? is there a way I can choose?
Cry with the wolves, run with the pack,
Turn around to save your neck,
cos someone always keeps you in confusion,
Squeezed in a box, wholl win the race,
Ask no questions in this case,
Whats left is only you and your illusions,
Im juggling on a rope without a net and hope,
I keep my balance cos I see them smile with open jaws,
And if Im falling down, then I will soon be torn.
A squabble over prey: who gets the best part out of me,
To take the needle is a one-way trip without a coming back,
You take it and you still will see realityll make upon you.

An Absence of Diligence

Duped and juiced.
Pinched and squeezed.
Convinced with fed delusions...
A fix will mend these current scenes.

Economically depleted.
Philosophically tricked.
People are seeking answers,
As to what, why and who started this.

An absence of diligence.
No observations with common sense.
Entertainments galore to deceive.
With visuals to believe.

Duped and juiced.
Pinched and squeezed.
Convinced with fed delusions...
A fix will mend these current scenes.

Economically depleted.
Philosophically tricked.
People are seeking answers,
As to what, why and who started this.

But truth is not received.

Nothing In the Pot Is Fit to Eat

Madness driven and pushed to the edge.
Everything they believe in lays crushed and dead.
A compromise can not be reached!
They seek a singeing that burns within.
And rage they do!
It is preferred instead.

They've been scorched and scrambled...
With a temper peppered and teased.
They thought they'd be buttered up and warmed,
Charm toasted, held close and slightly squeezed.

But a shoulder getting colder,
Is what they found in the pot.
And the pot was not about to get heated.

No...
The pot was not about to get heated.
And...
Nothing in the pot is fit to eat!
Since...
Emptiness is in it and not meat!

That's How Close I Am

Writing is my addiction.
If I'm not able to do it...
I suffer withdrawal anxiety.
I carry a pad and pen.
And if for some reason,
I forget or misplace them...
The breath from me,
Seems to be squeezed.
And I know I show I am paniced.
As if I hear my 'children' weeping...
In a desperate seeking for me.

That's how close I am to what I do!

Writing is my addiction.
I'm always in need of a fix.
And if I'm not able to do it...
I suffer withdrawal anxiety quick.
And if for some reason,
I forget or misplace them...
The breath from me,
Seems to be squeezed.
And I know I show I am paniced.
When I am not prepared to receive a 'flow'.

The Frog

Comes to mind as another small
upheaval
amongst the rubble.
His eye matches exactly the bubble
in my spirit-level.
I set aside hammer and chisel
and take him on the trowel.

The entire population of Ireland
springs from a pair left to stand
overnight in a pond
in the gardens of Trinity College,
two bottle of wine left there to chill
after the Act of Union.

There is, surely, in this story
a moral. A moral for our times.
What if I put him to my head
and squeezed it out of him,
like the juice of freshly squeezed limes,
or a lemon sorbet?

After School Walk

After lessons at junior school
coming down the bricks stairs

Helen said
can I walk home with you?

Sure
you replied

and she set off with you
along St George's Road

the traffic and smoke fumes
setting the scene

she in her school frock
and cardigan

and white ankle socks
beside you in your grey jacket

and grey short trousers
and she said

I don't usually walk home alone
but mum said I can walk home

with you save her coming along
to the school with the other kids

and pram with baby
you took in

her two plaits of hair
and thin framed glasses

with large lens
which made her eyes

larger than they were
her small hands

by her side
a small school bag

over her shoulder
and did you know

Janice likes you?
Her grandmother

Bombsite Conversation.

Fay sat beside you
on the concrete stairs
of Banks House
looking out
into the Square

where young girls
played skip rope
or boys having toy guns
reenacted WW2
taking no prisoners

firing noisy cap guns
and Fay said
where shall we go?
where do you want to go?
you said

away from the noisy guns
and skip rope games
she replied
and so you both got up
and went out

into the Square
and down the slope
the morning sun
blessing your heads
she in her summery dress

of yellow and orange flowers
white socks and sandals
and you in your grey tee shirt
and jeans and battered
black shoes

and you walked up
Meadow Row
between the houses
on either side until you turned right
by the public house

and onto the bombsite
behind the greengrocer store
and there you both sat
on the remains of a wall
looking around the ruins

and wild flowers
growing between bricks

I Opened The Door For Death...

I Opened The Door For Death
Invited Him In Like A Guest
He Sat Across From My Soul
I Shivered From Feeling Cold

His Face Was Shadowed & Cloaked
His Expression Was Closed As He Spoke
“I’m Glad You Let Me In …”
He Said Softly, Like A Long-Lost Friend

He Said, “I Came To Bring You A Gift
Something To Make Your Spirit Lift
For You’ve Been In So Much Pain! ”
He Sympathetically Exclaimed

“But I Can Make It All Go Away
… Just Take My Hand Today”
And He Held Out A Mirage-Like Hand
It Was Pale, But Blood-Red Drops Ran …

… Along The Length Of His Fingers
and Thin, Uplifted Palm
and In It, Something Was Beating
Like A Wild-War Drum …

It Was The Heart Of Me
Beating So Tragically
Pumping So Pitifully
A Sight So Wretched To See

and When Death Slowly Squeezed
It Was Hard for Me To Breathe
and Even Harder To Believe
As Death Explained What He Needs …

“If You Are Ready To Take The Risk
I Came To Bring An Oblivion-Bliss
But First Your Heart; We’ll Crush This
and Seal-Deal With A Hopeless-Kiss …

In Return, I’ll Give You Such Peace
This World Of Worries Will Cease
Every Pain of Yours, I Will Kill
I’ll Replace It With Elysian Fields …

You’ll Lie In Dreamless-Wonder
A Sweet Sojourn of Shadows & Slumber
Soft Blades of Grass & Blossoms; Your Canopy Bed
& A Stone Mountain Guard O’er Your Head …

My Frog

As I was walking by a pungent lake
Just outside of Meigs,
I stopped and did a double-take,
A frog with four hind legs! ! ! ! !

He was a rather normal frog,
From his head down to his waist,
And even with his excess limbs,
He had a certain grace.

So I picked him up and took him home
And there he would be today,
If that Molly girl hadn't come along
And stolen my frog away.

She snuck into my house, that thief,
And took him from his bed,
Then later had the gall to say:
'I had to bury him cause he was dead! '

Well one day Molly came to school
And said something about her frog
And when I questioned mine's whereabouts
She said she'd found hers on a log.

She went on to say that yesterday
Her little frog had died;
She sat there a while, just sat and sat
And cried, cried, cried, cried, cried.

I went to her frog's funeral,
Just to ease my suspicious mind,
And there lay a frog with four hind legs
Which looked a lot like mine!

Once again I questioned her
About her frog's strange state
And then she told the strange tale
Which I will now relate.

As she walked through my house
She heard a small voice say,
'I will gwant you any wish
If you'll take me away.

'Fow I'm not an owdinary fwog,
And with some love and cawe,
I will be bown again with golden wings
And Heavenly will be my share.'

Adam Smith

A person who can acquire no property, can have no other interest but to eat as much, and to labour as little as possible. Whatever work he does beyond what is sufficient to purchase his own maintenance can be squeezed out of him by violence only, and not by any interest of his own.
