Reinvent The Wheel

(Walt Aldridge/Brad Crister)
Seems like everywhere I look
There's another version of the same old book
And someone telling me it's new
Every song on my radio sounds like one I heard a long time ago
Different windows, same old view
Yeah
Uh-huh
All the clothes in the magazines I could swear I've already seen
In my closet years ago
Hairstyles and super-malls, you've seen one well you've seen them all
Tell me something I don't know
But in a world that's mostly imitation
It's hard to recognize the real
It takes a brave heart to resist temptation
To take the easy way and reinvent the wheel
(Yeah)
A friend of mine finds Mr. Right every other Friday night
At a smoky singles bar
And she can't seem to understand why life don't go like she plans
She goes on whishing on a star
Yeah
But in a world that's mostly imitation
It's hard to recognize the real
It takes a brave heart to resist temptation
To take the easy way and reinvent the wheel
(Yeah)
But in a world that's mostly imitation
It's hard to recognize the real
It takes a brave heart to resist temptation
To take the easy way and reinvent the wheel
(Yeah)
Reinvent the wheel

Bonds

The bond can be strong and unchangeable
It can make life worth living and bearable
But a bond not worth savaging is worth less
Than the mud on the bottom of a shoe from payless
Chosen bonds can make it through the worst storms
It far exceeds and surpasses the societies norms
Deviant one may say, but a worthless bond
It cheap and can sometimes be a con
The bond that is not even enough to withstand
The bond that can't even to begin to comprehend
It's not the bond someone can lay life
On, and you know when that bond is right
When all you see is the shinning lights

I Believe(From The 60's)

Even though I'm so young.
I still feel so ancient.
Like I was meant to be born in 60's
I believe in honest hard work.
I believe in chivalry.
I believe in taking ten paces before before you kill someone.

Yes I use modern technology.
But so does grama.
Some things will not change no matter the gadgets.
How the game is played is still the same.
Only the technique has changed.

Even though I'm so young.
I still feel so ancient.
Like I was meant to be born in 60's
I believe in the right protest.
I believe less government is progress.
I believe we must protect all our freedoms.

No matter if theirs a gun in my face or not.
You will not silence my speech.
You will not rob me or my family.
No matter who you are.
I never encourage violence accept to defend oneself.
No matter the impeding army.
Or the repercussions of such actions.
It has never been about self sanctification with me.
Protect those you love.
Let only god be the one to judge.

Even though I'm so young.
I still feel so ancient.
Like I was meant to be born in 60's
I believe in honest hard work.
I believe in chivalry.
I believe in taking ten paces before before you kill someone.

Lancelot And Elaine

Elaine the fair, Elaine the loveable,
Elaine, the lily maid of Astolat,
High in her chamber up a tower to the east
Guarded the sacred shield of Lancelot;
Which first she placed where the morning's earliest ray
Might strike it, and awake her with the gleam;
Then fearing rust or soilure fashioned for it
A case of silk, and braided thereupon
All the devices blazoned on the shield
In their own tinct, and added, of her wit,
A border fantasy of branch and flower,
And yellow-throated nestling in the nest.
Nor rested thus content, but day by day,
Leaving her household and good father, climbed
That eastern tower, and entering barred her door,
Stript off the case, and read the naked shield,
Now guessed a hidden meaning in his arms,
Now made a pretty history to herself
Of every dint a sword had beaten in it,
And every scratch a lance had made upon it,
Conjecturing when and where: this cut is fresh;
That ten years back; this dealt him at Caerlyle;
That at Caerleon; this at Camelot:
And ah God's mercy, what a stroke was there!
And here a thrust that might have killed, but God
Broke the strong lance, and rolled his enemy down,
And saved him: so she lived in fantasy.

How came the lily maid by that good shield
Of Lancelot, she that knew not even his name?
He left it with her, when he rode to tilt
For the great diamond in the diamond jousts,
Which Arthur had ordained, and by that name
Had named them, since a diamond was the prize.

For Arthur, long before they crowned him King,
Roving the trackless realms of Lyonnesse,
Had found a glen, gray boulder and black tarn.
A horror lived about the tarn, and clave
Like its own mists to all the mountain side:
For here two brothers, one a king, had met
And fought together; but their names were lost;
And each had slain his brother at a blow;
And down they fell and made the glen abhorred:
And there they lay till all their bones were bleached,
And lichened into colour with the crags:
And he, that once was king, had on a crown
Of diamonds, one in front, and four aside.
And Arthur came, and labouring up the pass,
All in a misty moonshine, unawares

Gernutus the Jew of Venice

The First Part

In Venice towne not long agoe
A cruel Jew did dwell,
Which lived all on usurie,
As Italian writers tell.

Gernutus called was the Jew,
Which never thought to dye,
Nor ever yet did any good
To them in streets that lie.

His life was like a barrow hogge,
That liveth many a day,
Yet never once doth any good
Until men will him slay.

Or like a filthy heap of dung,
That lieth in a whoard;
Which never can do any good,
Till it be spread abroad.

So fares it with the usurper,
He cannot sleep in rest,
For feare the thiefe will him pursue
To plucke him from his nest.

His hearte doth thinke on many a wile,
How to deceive the poore;
His mouth is almost ful of mucke,
Yet still he gapes for more.

His wife must lend a shilling,
For every weeke a penny,
Yet bring a pledge that is double worth,
If that you will have any.

And see, likewise, you keepe your day,
Or else you loose it all;
This was the living of the wife,
Her cow she did it call.

Within that citie dwelt that time
A marchant of great fame,
Which being distressed in his need,
Unto Gernutus came:

Desiring him to stand his friend
For twelve month and a day;

Bond

Bond
His name is James Bond
A small golden fish
Swimming in my pond

Along lines he rises
Cruises on the grid
Has many disguises
Hides and stays hid

Bond
His name is James Bond
A small golden fish
Of which I am very fond!

He's truly ambitios
He's fierce and vicious
Bond - my pet Piraya
Swimming with the fishes.

Maid Of Bond Street

This girl is made of lipstick
Powder and paint
Sees the pictures of herself
Every magazine on every shelf
This girl is maid of bond street
Hailing cabs, lunches with executives
Gleaming teeth sip aperitifs
This girl is a lonely girl
Takes the train from paddington to oxford circus
Buys the daily news
But passengers dont smile at her, dont smile at her
This girl is made of loneliness
A broken heart
For the boy that she once knew
Doesnt want to know her any more
And this girl is a lonely girl
Every thing she wants is hers
But she cant make it with the boy she really wants to be with
All the time, to love, all the time
This boy is made of envy
Jealousy
He doesnt have a limousine
Really wants to be a star himself
This girl, her world is made of flashlights and films
Her cares are scraps on the cutting room floor
And maids of bond street drive round in chauffered cars
Maids of bond street picture clothes, eyes of stars
Maids of bond street shouldnt have worldly cares
Maids of bond street shouldnt have love affairs

His Word Is Not His Bond

(girls let me tell you what a liar will do
Hes always coming with something new
Hell steal your heart...)
He lives in the waste
Void of culture and taste
His eye on a prize beyond
His every word is in the right place
But his word is not his bond
His face is comely
His heart it bleeds
Yet its but a mantel
He has donned
Mark him only by his deeds
For his word is not his bond
Id love to take him
Out of this room
And gently break him
Id love to see him dance!
His protogee deals
In confusion and fog
Of power he is fond
Wheels within wheels
Like master, like dog
His word is not his bond
Im trying to swim
But Im caught in the shallows
And I sense that Ive been conned
Deliver him
To the gallows
His word is not his bond
His word is not his bond!

The Victories Of Love. Book II

I
From Jane To Her Mother

Thank Heaven, the burthens on the heart
Are not half known till they depart!
Although I long'd, for many a year,
To love with love that casts out fear,
My Frederick's kindness frighten'd me,
And heaven seem'd less far off than he;
And in my fancy I would trace
A lady with an angel's face,
That made devotion simply debt,
Till sick with envy and regret,
And wicked grief that God should e'er
Make women, and not make them fair.
That he might love me more because
Another in his memory was,
And that my indigence might be
To him what Baby's was to me,
The chief of charms, who could have thought?
But God's wise way is to give nought
Till we with asking it are tired;
And when, indeed, the change desired
Comes, lest we give ourselves the praise,
It comes by Providence, not Grace;
And mostly our thanks for granted pray'rs
Are groans at unexpected cares.
First Baby went to heaven, you know,
And, five weeks after, Grace went, too.
Then he became more talkative,
And, stooping to my heart, would give
Signs of his love, which pleased me more
Than all the proofs he gave before;
And, in that time of our great grief,
We talk'd religion for relief;
For, though we very seldom name
Religion, we now think the same!
Oh, what a bar is thus removed
To loving and to being loved!
For no agreement really is
In anything when none's in this.
Why, Mother, once, if Frederick press'd
His wife against his hearty breast,
The interior difference seem'd to tear
My own, until I could not bear
The trouble. 'Twas a dreadful strife,
And show'd, indeed, that faith is life.
He never felt this. If he did,
I'm sure it could not have been hid;
For wives, I need not say to you,

The Gift to Proceed

In the sky there are stars
Each one represents someone
Big, small, but alike
Hold the same love and the same light

A bond that will never end, but grow stronger
Is the bond of a child and the mother
Innocence is a gift He has given
A child is a gift that has that burden

Vulnerability is an emotion that takes its course
That bond, between mother and child, is the source
The door ahead holds the future and the key
This gift we speak of is the strength to proceed

This loss is not a loss to hurt you
This loss is the loss to look over you
The bond between child and the mother
Is the bond that never ends, but grows stronger

In the sky there are stars
Each one represents someone
Big, small, but alike
Hold the same love and the same light

Though they have the same love and light
One is stronger with all its might
The one that watches you while you sleep
Is the gift we speak of that will let you proceed

CRYSTAL GLOW

Madhur Veena Comment: Who is she? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ....You write good!

Margaret Alice Comment: Beautiful, it stikes as heartfelt words and touches the heart, beautiful sentiments, sorry, I repeat myself, but I am delighted. Your poem is like the trinkets I collect to adorn my personal space, pure joy to read, wonderful! Only a beautiful mind can harbour such sentiments, you have a beautiful mind. I am glad you have found someone that inspires you to such heights and that you share it with us, you make the world a mroe wonderful place.

Margaret Alice Comment: Within the context set by the previous poem, “Cosmic Probe”, the description of a lover’s adoration for his beloved becomes a universal ode sung to the abstract values of love, joy and hope personified by light, colours, fragrance and beauty, qualities the poet assigns to his beloved, thus elevating her to the status of an uplifting force because she brings all these qualities to his attention. The poet recognises that these personified values brings him fulfilment and chose the image of a love relationship to illustrate how this comes about; thus a love poem becomes the vehicle to convey spiritual epiphany.

FRAGRANT JASMINE

Margaret Alice Comment: Your words seem to be directed to a divine entity, you seem to be addressing your adoration to a divinity, and it is wonderful to read of such sublime sentiments kindled in a human soul. Mankind is always lifted up by their vision and awareness of divinity, thank you for such pure, clear diction and sharing your awareness of the sublime with us, you have uplifted me so much by this vision you have created!

Margaret Alice Comment: The poet’s words seem to be directed to a divine entity, express adoration to a divinity who is the personification of wonderful qualities which awakens a sense of the sublime in the human soul. An uplifting vision and awareness of uplifting qualities of innocence represented by a beautiful person.

I WENT THERE TO BID HER ADIEU

Kente Lucy Comment: wow great writing, what a way to bid farewell

Margaret Alice Comment: Sensory experience is elevated by its symbolical meaning, your description of the scene shows two souls becoming one and your awareness of the importance of tempory experience as a symbol of the eternal duration of love and companionship - were temporary experience only valid for one moment in time, it would be a sad world, but once it is seen as a symbol of eternal things, it becomes enchanting.

I’M INCOMPLETE WITHOUT YOU

Margaret Alice Comment: You elevate the humnan experience of longing for love to a striving for sublimity in uniting with a beloved person, and this poem is stirring, your style of writing is effective, everything flows together perfectly.

Margaret Alice Comment:

'To a resplendent glow of celestial flow
And two split halves unite never to part.'

Reading your fluent poems is a delight, I have to tear myself away and return to the life of a drudge, but what a treasure trove of jewels you made for the weary soul who needs to contemplate higher ideals from time to time!

IN CELESTIAL WINGS

Margaret Alice Comment: When you describe how you are strengthened by your loved one, it is clear that your inner flame is so strong that you need not fear growing old, your spirit seems to become stronger, you manage to convey this impression by your striking poetry. It is a privilege to read your work.

Obed Dela Cruz Comment: wow.... i remembered will shakespeare.... nice poem!

Margaret Alice Comment: The poet has transcended the barriers of time and space by becoming an image of his beloved and being able to find peace in the joy he confers to his beloved.

'You transcend my limits, transcend my soul, I forget my distress in your thoughts And discover my peace in your joy, For, I’m mere image of you, my beloved.'

Margaret Alice Comment: You are my peace and solace, I know, I am, yours too; A mere flash of your thoughts Enlivens my tired soul And fills me with light, peace and solace, A giant in new world, I become, I rise to divine heights in celestial wings. How I desire to reciprocate To fill you with light and inner strength raise you to divine heights; I must cross over nd hold you in arms, light up your soul, Fill you with strength from my inner core, Wipe away your tears burst out in pure joy How I yearn to instill hope and confidence in you we never part And we shall wait, till time comes right. the flame in my soul always seeks you, you transcend my limits, transcend my soul, I forget my distress in your thoughts And discover my peace in your joy, For, I’m mere image of you, my beloved.

the green tiles of the garage
reinvent this old house

it is more livable now
the hammock newly washed

the shoes newly brushed and
the table newly painted

this house has reinvented itself
into something more admirable

decent, confident, renewed,
this could be a start

as you must begin to recreate
what you once was too

do not be just yourself
go beyond what is admirable

reinvent your mind
dye your hair, polish your nails

scent your soap and
wash your hands.

Playing With Uranium

In for an evening, of lite entertainment
and who would believe you, could worry the neighbor
Come on over to my place, playing with uranium
If it blows up in your face, see you on the other side
Come on over to my place, playing with uranium
Reinvent the human race, you just got the invitation
We go undiscovered, cause people are careless
One way or another, they'll never forget us
Come on over to my place, playing with uranium
If it blows up in your face, see you on the other side
Come on over to my place, playing with uranium
Reinvent the human race, you just got the invitation
Playing with uranium, playing with uranium
Never be the same again
Cause they're playing with uranium,
Playing with uranium, playing with uranium

'Poetry has a great digestive system and can consume and recycle almost anything. It's the poet's persona that gives meaning to the process. The first important act of the imagination is to create the person who will write the poems. And that's not the end of it. We have to invent and reinvent who we are until we arrive at the self we can bear to live with and die with. Art demands of the artist the capacity for self-renewal. Without it, art withers. And so does the life.'
- STANLEY KUNITZ

what you were is not enough.
what you are is not enought either.
what you will be will always not suffice.

if you are a sigh
turn yourself into a word
if you are a word
reinvent reconvert
recycle
be not just a word
be a phrase
be this sentence
be this paragraph
be this short story
be this novel
be this universal prayer

do not just be a nail but be a hammer
do not just be snail but be sparrow

what if you are nothing at all at the end?
then be the perfection of nothing
just be the best

An Eternity In Leaps And Bounds

Profanities, obscenities, with insanity beckoning us in the night
I don’t get any time to call my own,
I Don’t get any peace so far from home
And I've got a feeling I won’t get find any pleasure
Seeking hidden treasures
In the nightmares of this town.

Dreams upon the horizon lie out of reach for a while
Sit back with a smile, blaze away the days. Up in smoke
Let the tokers joke, let them try and catch the breeze,
It’s not as easy as they’d have you believe.

Trying to conceive some shattered form of reality,
It makes no sense to me.

Peering into the distance growing between our forms,
Into the eye of the sun
And down on my knees before you now
Your turning me away.

Ride a wave of passion until you crash upon the shore
What more could you ask for
Than eternal bliss
This you’ve got to ask yourself
Would you miss the blues
Would you be able to see it though with nothing to compare your happiness to?

What is there that lays beyond our reach,
High up in the skies?
Pondering as bloodshot eyes keep me hiding from the dawn,
The light of day can ease my troubles; take away the pain by morning due,
As we watch the rain dance upon the pavement

You look at me, I look at you
Tomorrow never knows
What dreams lay unwoven, untold.

Let the page turn, the story unfold.

Come let’s get together, one more time to see it though.
Another way to blue and back again for you my friend.
Before the rain can reflect the rainbow lost in an instant.
As we find ourselves passing on by the days wishing away the hours,
You’ll have no one to blame when the final grain has rested in its place
Or so they say just never to my face.

Will you hold on to faith as the void beckons you to burning point?

Suppress the memories that keep you sane
