The Rosciad

Unknowing and unknown, the hardy Muse
Boldly defies all mean and partial views;

The buskin'd heroes of the mimic stage

For pity's sake tells undeserved mishaps,
And, their applause to gain, recounts his claps.
Thus the victorious chiefs of ancient Rome,
To win the mob, a suppliant's form assume;
In pompous strain fight o'er the extinguish'd war,
And show where honour bled in every scar.
But though bare merit might in Rome appear
The strongest plea for favour, 'tis not here;
We form our judgment in another way;
And they will best succeed, who best can pay:
Those who would gain the votes of British tribes,
Must add to force of merit, force of bribes.
What can an actor give? In every age
Cash hath been rudely banish'd from the stage;
Monarchs themselves, to grief of every player,
Appear as often as their image there:
They can't, like candidate for other seat,
Pour seas of wine, and mountains raise of meat.
Wine! they could bribe you with the world as soon,
And of 'Roast Beef,' they only know the tune:
But what they have they give; could Clive do more,
Though for each million he had brought home four?
Shuter keeps open house at Southwark fair,
And hopes the friends of humour will be there;
In Smithfield, Yates prepares the rival treat
For those who laughter love, instead of meat;
Foote, at Old House,--for even Foote will be,
In self-conceit, an actor,--bribes with tea;
Which Wilkinson at second-hand receives,
And at the New, pours water on the leaves.
The town divided, each runs several ways,
As passion, humour, interest, party sways.
Things of no moment, colour of the hair,
Shape of a leg, complexion brown or fair,
A dress well chosen, or a patch misplaced,
Conciliate favour, or create distaste.
From galleries loud peals of laughter roll,
And thunder Shuter's praises; he's so droll.

Behind the Scenes

The actor struts his little hour,
Between the limelight and the band;
The public feel the actor's power,
Yet nothing do they understand
Of all the touches here and there
That make or mar the actor's part,
They never see, beneath the glare,
The artist striving after art.
To them it seems a labour slight
Where nought of study intervenes;
You see it in another light
When once you've been behind the scenes.

For though the actor at his best
Is, like a poet, born not made,
He still must study with a zest
And practise hard to learn his trade.
So, whether on the actor's form
The stately robes of Hamlet sit,
Or as Macbeth he rave and storm,
Or plays burlesque to please the pit,

'Tis each and all a work of art,
That constant care and practice means --
The actor who creates a part
Has done his work behind the scenes.

The Haughty Actor

AN actor - GIBBS, of Drury Lane -
Of very decent station,
Once happened in a part to gain
Excessive approbation:
It sometimes turns a fellow's brain
And makes him singularly vain
When he believes that he receives
Tremendous approbation.

His great success half drove him mad,
But no one seemed to mind him;
Well, in another piece he had
Another part assigned him.
This part was smaller, by a bit,
Than that in which he made a hit.
So, much ill-used, he straight refused
To play the part assigned him.

THAT NIGHT THAT ACTOR SLEPT, AND I'LL ATTEMPT
TO TELL YOU OF THE VIVID DREAM HE DREAMT.

THE DREAM.

In fighting with a robber band
(A thing he loved sincerely)
A sword struck GIBBS upon the hand,
And wounded it severely.
At first he didn't heed it much,
He thought it was a simple touch,
But soon he found the weapon's bound
Had wounded him severely.

To Surgeon COBB he made a trip,
Who'd just effected featly
An amputation at the hip
Particularly neatly.
A rising man was Surgeon COBB
But this extremely ticklish job
He had achieved (as he believed)
Particularly neatly.

The actor rang the surgeon's bell.

Be good enough to strap it well,
And prithee do not linger.

Lonely Boy-Man Alone

Lonely Boy facing his first challenges
Unsure what they are
Sensing the threat from them
But not recognizing them
for what they are.
Simply challenges
to his resourcefullness.

Lonely boy
Upset and frightened by the challenges
That are the steps toward manhood.
The fables read to him so far
Said nothing to him about the obstacle spar
To manhood.

Change has come indeed, but it is becoming increasingly difficult

The changes we were looking for
Have indeed come

But with a bigger bang
And bitter challenges like
Economy
Education
Healthcare
Hou sing and what not

Any amount of helping
The industries and others
Seems to be not capable of
Fetching the results
We would like to see

There is no point
Looking for changes outside
Now we need to change within

Oh, fellow countrymen
We need to come together
Share the resources
And that is only way
To combat the challenges
Already existing and
In the making

If you love your country
And if you want that back
On the original track of
Growth, Development and Opportunities
Try to understand this
And put the same into practice

If you visualise your nation
As a mansion
Its strength depends on the
Quality of the bricks
You used in building the same

The bricks of a nation
Are nothing but the families
It is holding

Family is a small organisational system
Comprising blood related individuals
And the quality of the family
Is the bonding between members of the family
And their quality and value systems

Challenges

We all face challenges in this life, even those who follow Jesus Christ,
So all challenges we must address, through our God's Righteousness,
Many challenges are from this world, but God's Truths we must herald,
Always in God's light and His ways, in these present challenging days.

Many may struggle with their identity; just who and what they are to be,
But, God's the One, who helps us be, that individual we are, as we see,
Living Truths in God's Word we read, this as we allow The Lord to lead,
Through God's Holy Spirit, within, that all our identity, comes from Him.

One challenge for many is Authority, men desiring to plan their destiny,
Not wanting to submit in their life, to the plan and ways of Jesus Christ,
But, in this life men cannot afford, to oppose the Authority of The Lord,
As our Lord has authority over all, nations and men, both big and small.

Another challenge; worldly influence, for those lacking Godly prudence,
With many lacking Godly discretion, taking instead, the wrong direction,
Then they live opposing God's Truth, only to experience God's reproof,
While some who do stray will learn, then back to God's way, they return.

As we grow to know God personally, with The Lord, we find our identity,
To Christ's Authority, we then submit, to live out our life as God sees fit,
So we're influenced by God's Word, living out those Truths we've heard,
While we purpose in this temporal life, to live for The Lord, Jesus Christ.

Greater Than Most

Challenges are many.
And those balls some juggle,
Are greater than most.

The steps it takes to move forward,
Seem weighted and thick.
As if the paths those journey,
Must be done with the carrying...
Of a ton of bricks.

Yet,
There is a light that shines...
With an easing of tensions.
There is a fresh breeze that blows,
To cool and dry the wetness of sweat.

And even though the challenges of many,
That are faced.
There is a place of rest to reflect...
The rewards of continuing on.

With an achieving of success...
Those determined and motivated,
Feel within themselves and get!

Challenges are many.
And those balls some juggle,
Are greater than most.
Yet,
There is a light that shines...

Misanthrope

I hand myself these challenges
and if I win
I preen;

I hand myself these challenges
and if I lose
knowledge and experience I guess I gain;

I hand myself still greater challenges
and hope they don't
ending up educating me to death.

Surviving then
the worst of these,
if lucky,
I could be crippled for life
but end up very very wise.

You know actually
I'd rather skip
the educated, crippled and possibly dead part
and perhaps too
skip the my birth itself
and go straight to heaven in one piece
one day and still healthy,

where God and and I would discuss
the Joys and the Dreads of Earthly Life
in the presence of the angels
and delightful cherubic lads.

Thereby I would gain immortality
and never ever
have to get dead.

Humm..
All in all
I think
this idea is best in many ways.

But if you are reading this
you are already alive
the both of us having made our first mistake;

that of having been born
and probably depending on age
very very very wise.

This is an infa song,
for the family to which we all belong,
in the welcome of the days ahead,
in the memory of days that have gone.
This is an infa song...

we like the place, we love the place,
for us it is a home away from home.
we are never ever gonna leave this place,
as to it, for forever we belong.

Challenges and challenges are on the way,
but challenges are with what we like to play,
its not gonna easy to be on the top,
but we will stay as we all are so strong.

You can't get an actor to do something that is beyond his range, so you have to be aware of the range of the actor and, if necessary, alter the part to suit the actor.
