Love Aint Like That

(tim gaetano, a.j. masters)
You cant buy it at the store
Try it on for size
Then bring it back if it dont feel right
No love, love aint like that
You cant trade it in
Like an automobile
Thats got too many miles an rust on its wheels
No love, love aint like that
Love aint that easy to define
You cant build it by design
It takes its own sweet time
It dont fall from the sky
Like a tiny drop of rain
That hits you right between the eyes one day
No love, love aint like that
You cant put your money down
An just roll the dice
Think youre gonna win it all some night
No love, love aint like that
Love aint that easy to define
You cant build it by design
It takes its own sweet time
You cant buy it at the store
Try it on for size
Bring it back if it dont feel right
No love, love aint like that
Love, no love, love, love aint like that
Cant trade it in like an automobile
Too many miles and rust on the wheels
No love, no love no, it aint like that
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Oh love, it aint like that
It dont fall from the sky
You cant trade it in
Cant buy it at the store
Then take it back again

Emily Dickinson

There came a Wind like a Bugle

There cam a Wind like a Bugle -
It quivered through the Grass
And a Green Chill upon the Heat
So ominous did pass
We barred the Windows and the Doors
As from an Emerald Ghost -
The Doom's electric Moccasin
The very instant passed -
On a strange Mob of panting Trees
And Fences fled away
And Rivers where the Houses ran
Those looked that lived - that Day -
The Bell within the steeple wild
The flying tidings told -
How much can come
And much can go,
And yet abide the World!

Girls Like That

Five foot nine, long legs clear up to there
High heel shoes, short skirt with her shoulders bare
It's easy to see she's got her style down pat
Got a way of walkin' like a wild bobcat
Well, you gotta love the Lord for makin' girls like that
She likes pickup trucks and longnecks and she loves to dance
She can steal your heart in a second with a single glance
Skin tight jeans and a cowboy hat
Hit a boy harder than a baseball bat
Well you gotta love the Lord for makin' girls like that
Well I wouldn't call myself a righteous man
But I thank heaven every chance I can
For sending Eve to Adam when this old world first began
Well I wouldn't call myself a righteous man
But I thank heaven every chance I can
For sending Eve to Adam when this old world first began
You can find them on a city street or down a country road
Natural born beauties turning heads everywhere they go
Take your breath away like a tire gone flat
Make a man cry like a little spoiled brat
Well you gotta love the Lord for makin' girls like that
Yes, you gotta love the Lord for makin' girls like that
Well, you gotta love the Lord for makin' girls like that

It's Like That

There were many shadows,
From time to time...
In my mind,
Just hiding there...
In those crevices and cracks.

There were many shadows,
Wearing hats and caps...
And their faked grins...
Following me,
Like that.

There were many shadows,
Seen in my mind.
Shadows I'd see behind,
Other shadows...
Keeping me awake.
I could not shake them.

With messages to deliver.
Messages for me...
To pay attention.
And...
That's a fact.

People get the message,
Just like that.
And berate it with attitude.
People get the message,
Like that.
People get the message,
Like that.
Yet berated it with attitude.
And...
It's like that.
Open your eyes to facts.
And, it's like that.
That's a fact.

Wishing to stay abused and confused...
There are people just like that.
And that's a fact.

People get the message,
Just like that.
But they believe that they can pay...
To have things done their way,
And...
People get the message,
Just like that.
And too late...
That's a fact.

People get the message,
Just like that.
And berate it with attitude.
Wishing to stay abused and confused...
Just like that.
And that's a fact.

There were many shadows,
From time to time...
In my mind,
Just hiding there...
In those crevices and cracks.

There were many shadows,
Wearing hats and caps...
And their faked grins...
Following me,
Like that.

People get the message,
Like that..
But berated it with attitude.
And...
Today we see it living.
With moody blues to choose,
And...
It's a fact.
It's like that.

Best way to keep a secret is tell it, just like that – mixes in with all the other palaver – nobody’s gonna listen, believe you or even care: the Secret

told the lady behind the counter
at the deli that I’m crazy and she just laughed and said no! But it’s true I really am crazy
And she said you don't look crazy
And I said no I don't suppose I do
That's part of my problem though I look normalwhateverthatis but I’m not
I walk around in a world of normal people and every once in a while I have to poke someone and tell them I’m not in the same world as they are and then they don't think I’m crazy
but that I am crazy for saying so

And she leaned over at me finally and said
What is it you are crazy weeth? And I said

I’m bi-polar. You know, manic-depressive?

And her eyes glazed over like the hams and salami
You don't know what that is do you? I said
And she said
No I don't know. What is that? And I said

That's what I am, I’m manic-depressive
Andshesaid in hersweetest sleepy-eyed droopy-eyelid limpid voice
I’m sorry I’m very sorry you're … whatever it is you said...

I tell you what (she said) ! ! Get far away! Just get away from it all for a while! Take a vacation when's the last time you took a vacation?

Go drive somewhere in your car even if you don't know where you're going!
and I said i can't get away from myself I’m sorry

I have to take me with myself wherever I go he goes and I come
I go and he comes I wish I could...

Then I realized this was just too much about me and my words trailed off

What vacation did she want to/ need to take! ? What was crazy when crazy really came to her? What was it for her to speak her heart to a stranger?

What did all my words spun and flung so carelessly bite into I didn't know this lady

So I said well, yea, you know I’ll do that

And she smiled it meant a lot that’s what you have to give when you're
In yourself
Gave her the response she needed to hear
heart to heart
Appreciate it really- your idea- I’ll do it!
I’m gonna try and do that

And by the way
don't mind all my crazy talk
You know, I’m just a little crazy

And she said no! And I said yes! No! Yes! Ha haha

I am

And I could hear myself and how I must sound to her
Like some bothersome man who needs the attention - lonely most likely like men get when they think about it and probably - more than likely
They had too much liquor
The alcohol- and the way they talk
because they're drunk - they talk around women
And can’t see the barriers and can't see that they're seen sloppy drunk they say

Don't pay me any mind, I’m just crazy
And then they tap the sides of their head like it'll rattle
and they grin
that awkward, hanging grin
When their lips and tongue are thick their heads spinning and the room is turning around them

And he thinks I’m putting on a pretty good show
I’m drunk and I know it
Don’t show it too much

Want to be loose but not too loose and lose their respect and he thinks in the far back of what’s left functioning in that mind he's pickling

That because he can't see straight
that nobody else can either

But knowing they’re pretty drunk they stumble and sway towards the door because you don't score women when you're drunk
You just have some fun
And practice the lines you're too introverted to say sober you have some fun and kill another night

Stumbling and waving as they go thinking for the life of them
I’m crazy to be this drunk but I’m a crazy guy

Until they wake up the next morning and find out they're not crazy at all just sick

And it's the same-ol same-ol: job, wife or kids a pale sheet pulled over the world of lights and fancy

But I wake up the next day (woke up one day, that is) and find out
(found out)

No hang over just a spill-over
a continuation of what I thought had been a bad experience
and now it’s just my life
and life just kind of flip-flopped on me in the night

So I turned around walked away from the nice lady iknewjustasmidgenbetter in the deli
to tap the side of my head and grinned at her
a wide but fading grin
attempting to leer

The teaser

So you are alone?
What now, what about your being alone?

You write a poem about it?
Let me see and read it.

(reads like reading an
electric bill for January)

there is nothing here,
everyone feels like you do

except that you write about
it, and you call yourself a poet,

I don’t think it will make a difference
Do you drink san mig beer?

Do you smoke 2 packs of Marlboro
A day? You don’t? Why not try it?

Let me see your choice of words,

(reads the poem again)

There is nothing in here that

Makes you different from the rest
Of us, smokers and drinkers and

Gamblers. What makes you think
You are not like us? Huh?

(crumples the paper where the
poem is written and leaves,

he picks it up and smoothens it
folds it like his blanket and slides
it in his pocket like a paycheck)

There Ain't Nothing In My Life Like That

I've heard that I am fine.
Perhaps that's why I dine alone...
Who knows.

I'm told I shouldn't be 'picky'.
I should be appreciative,
And invite someone into my home.

I believe they say this because...
Well,
I am aging and should be in a relationship.
But the peace of mind I worship...
Confuses that with 'desperation'
I guess.

I am not one to cruise the streets,
To find anyone to meet!
Nor do I think of going to the movies by myself.
Or peacefully sitting to eat.
Whether I had someone there...
To share that scene with me.

I am headache free.
Can't that be seen...
By the way I look?
Serene!
And freed of burdens,
Someone else might feel urgent...
To know me well enough to dump them,
And then leave!

There ain't nothing in my life like that...
I have a need or a wish to see repeated!

There is no frigate like a book

There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

I Said Nothing Like That

I have made no references...
Sarcastic or not,
To any animated rodents...
With big mouse ears.

Or of them having more significance,
For many people...
Than the realities happening aound them,
Right in their own neighborhoods.

I said nothing like that!
So don't go around saying these things,
You are telling people that I said.
There are enough rumors going on around here as it is.

Like that

Was it being empty of everything
or being full of everything,
when the song came during washing-up?

Was it being empty of everything
or being full of everything,
when the tourist outside the school door
glanced as if expecting nothing but the good?

Was it being empty of everything
or being full of everything,
when there was nowhere else but here?

Was it being empty of everything
or being full of everything
when there was no when or where
or why or what or how or who?

Who is to say? It was like that. Like that.

My Hair Just Hung Like That

My beautiful hair just hung like that.
It mattered that others' looked neater.
But I was like the rockband people,
Who realized where genius lay.

It lay in dishevelement of hair for sure.
The unrulier the more evolved the musician.
His synergistic flow from his hair to his guitar.

Flow of music,
Flow of hair,
It's musical relationship
Of orderly then disorderly harmony.

Guns n Roses and Linkin Park.
Their non-hairstyle created syncopated notes.
For whatever their musical stories told,
There was no reason to straighten their hair out.

There is No Place Like Home

Not being themselves,
Or feeling the need they can be
Is difficult today,
For those who have charaded.
And afraid to reveal a true face.

Opinionated from behind masks,
They have hidden tasks and agendas.
With pretentions more accepted,
By those who have adapted
To false identities from safe,
Although fake
Places.

So difficult it is today,
For those to charade.
And
For those who have charaded,
With feelings fake that are fading
There is,
No place like home.

There is no place like home.
There is no place like home.
There is no place like home.
Once 'home' has been felt,
With a comfort known
From within!

They Call People Like That Comedians

There are those with insecurities,
Who believe them to be less noticeable...
If they are quick to point out the flaws,
And blemishes of others in public.
And with loud disrespecting remarks.
To ensure an attention to them is given.
In the hopes that someone will find them humorous.
Although at the expense of degrading another.

'They call people like that,
Legitimate comedians.'

People like that who do what they do,
And not get paid...
Offstage too?
Are people who can not perceive to believe,
Those who hear and see what they do to others...
Do not think of them as humorous.
As much as they witness publicly,
Someone proving with a doing to be a legitimate fool.

No One Is Left to Please You Like That

It's too late to have explanations,
Bared and on the table.
That was done when you said you had no appetite.
But I watched you reach for dessert.
And you had no problem...
Feeding yourself with sweets.

And now you wish for a dish of reality?
Small enough...
So you can pucker up and peck,
For the taste of it to please!

This is not off a menu to be requested.
Or is there anyone here,
Waiting for you to digest it!
This is it as it is...
Whether or not you accept it that way.

And scratched is the soft music,
With a candelabra displayed.
And the candles were plastic.
Not waxed as you requested for your charade...
You wished to parade with serenade.

No one is left to please you like that.
Not here!
Only truth is served.
Deserving of it or not.

It Aint Like That

There I was, laid out on a table
Screamin sweat and bare feet to the floor
In my life, Id not soften
Things that cut, and burn so often
But I sit, think of somethin
Scared to face, the dyin nothin
See the cycle Ive waited for
It aint like that anymore
Where I go is when I feel Im able
How I fight is why Im feelin sore
In my sight, not forgotten
Feel as though, a tooth were rotten
Behind the smile, a tongue thats slippin
Buzzards cry, when flesh is rippin
See the cycle Ive waited for
It aint like that anymore
Here I sit writing on the paper
Trying to think of words you cant ignore
In my eyes, what Im lacking
Score at face, a ten for slacking
Sign the deal, set in motion
Smaller fish, so huge the ocean
See the cycle Ive waited for
It aint like that anymore

When You treat Me like that

My sweet heart cried out her heart
She said I break her heart
When I treat her like that
She said I made her sad when she caught me on the act
I never knew I could break a heart
Not that of my sweet heart
Now she is parking out of my house.
What can a man do to mend
A broken heart?
I am now alone, all alone in my empty
House, and my empty heart
Or should i say, my broken heart.
It is difficult, very difficult to live
Without her in my heart and my house
These days I drink, day in, day out
I try to forget my sweet heart,
But when I'm sober, there she is, right here in my heart
Her last words to me, 'You break my heart when you treat me lile that, I cant live like that'
She parked and left my house
Now here I am drinking my life out
Here I am crying my heart out.
my sweet heart has broken my heart
When she treat me like that.

Dont You Look At Me Like That

I still dream of you wakin up, openin your eyes
Like a little girl I once knew
Walkin to the window, lookin down on the street
You walk with me, and I walk with you
Well I thought it all over, it doesnt make any sense
Why did it fall apart, when it seemed so innocent?
You and I were like a light from a fallen star
You cant go back, you cant run away from your heart
Chorus:
Dont you look at me like that, cause I fall all over again
And I just cant hold on to your love anymore
Dont you look at me like that, cause I start all over again
And it just cant be, like it was once before
Dont stand there in the rain, lookin like some long lost angel
You and I were like a light from a fallen star
You cant go back, you cant run away from your heart
Dont stand there in the rain, lookin like some long lost angel
(no, I never could turn away from you)
(chorus repeats out)

There's No One Like You

There's no one like you that has ever been born,

when you pass away all the angels will mourn.

See, it's quite simple why you were born you see,

to give your gifts to the world and be what you were meant to be.

God planted within each of us a really tiny seed.

As we grow, it blossoms like a flower, as pretty as can be.

So share the fruits of your talent, shining bright for the world to see,

forever growing tall, like a like an old oak tree.

Strong, sturdy and forever reaching high,

to the highest point way up in the sky.

So let your talent light your heart with joy and glee,

let the power within you grow by setting it free.

For there is no one like yu in all of history,

you are unique, original and a mystery.

So celebrate your talents of who you are,

for you are an original star.
