The Babe Bows Out 06-13-1948

The stands are full of cheering fans
As I wait to say goodbye.
My bat serves as a crutch for me
just weeks before I’ll die.

This day in June is cold and gray,
windy, overcast and bitter.
No warmth touches my wasted frame,
I’m a mere shadow of a hitter

The grandstands are abuzz with life
I shed a single tear.
I always was a man apart,
Larger than life, I hear.

My lusts and appetites were great-
more than a mortal man’s-.
but the syllogisms true
And that is all I am.

They do not know, they cannot know
about my hopes and fears.
They see just the fading icon
Of their own glory years.

False Peace

The fear that is upon the Earth
Causes men to quake
The fear of an atomic war
Is more than man can take.
Of course they seek a saviour
A man to bring them peace
If he comes from God or Satan
The UN said, 'he shall increase'
For this world will give him power
In return for the peace he brings
They will worship and adore him
Sell their souls for many things.
But the peace that he will bring
Will be but a lie from hell
For Satan cannot give man peace
Though a truth in this I'll tell.

Now the prince of the air
Will be given his own place
By the Earth's United Nations
'cause they have refused God's peace through grace.
Now the prince of the air is Satan
And he seeks to rule the Earth
The New Age folk will give him this
For they have not second birth.
And in time atomic war may come
A destruction wrought with fire
Satan's peace confirms his name
As the eternal liar.

But true peace comes from God alone
And in Yeshua the Messiah is found
Not troubled by atomic war -
God's peace is Calvary's ground! !

'Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah'

Bestest Bet

If i could identify what makes me happy
I am wondering If identifying it
would make me happy?

If happiness is love or money
would mere identification
result in bliss?

No, I would then have
to identify what steps to take
to obtain love's best.

But steps sounds like something I would plan
and planning sounds artificial
and can love come from artifice
or worse manipulation?

Can I manipulate my loved one
into loving me and live happily ever after?

Or should I leave love to random chance
and hope for the best
when so much is at stake?

Should I wait passively
for love to find me?

All of this not so easy.

What of money?

I could plan riches
by training, earning or cheating
the Wall Street Way,

but that obviously can go awry
or even if not
shall I cling to the dollar almighty
and proclaim happiness?

If money did this
then the rich
would be happiest of all;
and clearly they are not.

So what to do here:
talk about second best?

Well, if life is not going to make me happy
it is either I misunderstand what is involved
or I should take the money and the random love;

marrying someone who
is at best a risk
and
50% likely to bring me not happiness
but unhappiness and divorce.

Am I then to cuddle my dollar bills and
unhappy misery;
curse my life as unlucky
or conclude
probably
that my bestest bet
is that
happiness
does not lie
out there
rather
it lies
within
me;

and best to
begin my search there;
asking then
who is the happiest me
I can respect?

Let It Ride

These are just the simple facts
I will relate to you
Though they are not connected
Each and every one is true
If they seem a bit untidy
Well unraveling them is fun
I will not stand corrected
I have not harmed anyone
I just let it ride
Ride let it ride
Leave on the evenin tide
Just let it ride
When I listen to my heart
I sometimes fail to find
One sane and simple answer
On the bright side of my mind
Even when Im sleeping
I cant seem to unwind
I just let it ride
I knew a man from windsor
Who went to detroit every night
And stateside of the tunnel
Customs agents gave him flight
He threw his stash in the river
And his bedroll on the ground
And when they finally got there
A sleeping man was all that they found
He just let it ride
Ride let it ride
Leavin on the evenin tide
Just let it ride
Hear the steeple bell ring out
Above my lobster pots
I might be out here fishin man
But that aint where it stops
The mouths I feed are many
And they all say thanks a lot
They just let it ride
One day when Im old and gray
n consider whats gone by
I always will be proud of
Every tear Ive ever cried
And all of the old jokes we told
Around the candle light
To all those tender damsels
Who had helped us through the night
They just let it ride
Ride let it ride
Leavin on the evenin tide
Just let it ride
Im gonna let it ride
Heres to the girls of london
And the ones from montreal
We never will forget them
We still fantasize them all
I knew one in st. louis
On a missouri afternoon
I met one up in shanghai
And another in rangoon
I just let it ride
Ride let it ride
Leavin on the evenin tide
Just let it ride
Ride ride ride
Im gonna let it ride
Leavin on the evenin tide
Just let it ride

The Choir, The Bells The Church

he changed
not attracted anymore to the
angelic sounds of the
choir the tolling bells
or its chimes
the church
that used to be his
second home
has now become
a place where
he merely
passes by
unfazed.

In The Emptiness Of The Church ...

it is when i finally decide to go
to church this afternoon
after a long time of hibernation
in the world of words
in the most silent privacy
only to find out that the church
too is empty but the priest just the
same has to say mass

Mary of the Church

Mary of the church
The only human I believe
In is you
At both end is my faith
Like almighty God the creator
You never lied
And did I sin against you?
Only then like the prodigal son
Of the holy book
I will come to you
And say: My dear Mary of the church: I have sinned
Please forgive and
Take me back into your arm
For in you I Find
My fortitude.

Today... 'The Head of the Church

We are the body and He is the Head.
the beginning and Firstborn from the dead
United as one by His sacrifice
we come together in Jesus Christ

Husband and lover, Saviour and Lord
we are the Bride obeying His word.
the Living Head of the Church is He
In everything having the supremacy.

At The Church Mass....

there they go again
(i within)
hearing mass in
the church,

it is Saturday
evening,

it is a show of
music and poetry
of song and
choreography

uniformed ladies and
gentlemen
white and gray and
carrying candle lights
for accent

i like this show
as i perspire a lot
in this multitude

what i do not like
is this
what do i understand
by all these
mixes?

i sit on one of those
chairs
thinking about
nothing.

The Church Is Built On Bloody Bones

The church is built on bloody bones,
Broken martyrs, burning homes;
The church is built on bloody bones-
Not singing angels, golden thrones.

The church is built on murder, rage,
Plunder, anger and pillage;
The church is built on murder, rage-
There's no escaping murders wage.

The church you choose informs your soul,
If you're shattered, if you're whole;
The church you choose informs your soul-
So be sure it's worthy goal.

I did go to the church today

I did go to the church today
and the minister
and elders and deacons
were there
and even young guys and girls
and older people too
and it felt like a huge gathering
and I was told to pray.

My voice was too unmelodic
to sing a song,
and I was afraid to pray
and did not really
know the right words to say.

Yet the words came
and flowed fluent and strong
and that prayer was great
and the people felt blessed,
but did the Lord
hear a word that I said?

The Church Will Steal Your Money

When I said the Church
Will steal your money;
Hypocrites stoop and
Say I'm greedy.
But I entreat thee
Consult thy memory
Who said my God
Is hungry?
He has all to His means
in Heavenly.
Legions of angels
At His bid and calling.
Your service should be
For humanity.
I mean the ones who
are needy.

Let us now look back
To the time of Christ
He never asked for
A dollar nor a dime,
He said,
Give out your wealth
to the suffering;
I mean the ones who
Are hungry.

The Church Bell Rings Too Early

the church bell rings too early

the town's electrician
bald and ugly
poor and lonely
he was looking for his wife
who left with another man
taking with her
his only son

he could not eat breakfast
skipped his supper
and would not care for any lunch

and then the church bell tolled
for him
though not as early as he once did it

we shall always remember
grief, lament, the sound of the bell
too sonorous
to remember
lost affections, betrayal, death
and lack of
prayer.

The Church of Unbent Knees

AS I went by the church to-day
I heard the organ cry;
And goodly folk were on their knees,
But I went striding by.

My minister hath a roof more vast:
My aisles are oak-trees high;
My altar-cloth is on the hills,
My organ is the sky.

I see my rood upon the clouds,
The winds, my chanted choir;
My crystal windows, heaven-glazed,
Are stained with sunset fire.

The stars, the thunder, and the rain,
White sands and purple seas-
These are His pulpit and His pew,
My God of Unbent Knees!

meeting Dureza at the church one sunday

the eyes speak the familiar
and her eyes are talking about me
and my eyes too glance at her
and both eyes are talking in
careful whispers of silence as
the priest is still saying grace
before the mass ends,

and peace be with you we
bow at each other to the left
and to the right and then our
eyes glance again speaking
carefully the whispers of our
past sins, and i look at her,

my God she has aged a lot,
i even thought she is her mother.

we have nothing to remember.
we left the church not saying
any word from our mouths,
my wife pulls me to the car
there is no looking back she
says, there is no looking back.

The Church bell tolls beyond the Colliery

The colour is black when he comes home
But he is not a Negro who sweats in a coal mine.
His fiancée is a Negress who grinds to a flour milling factory
Walks home like an Englishwoman floury.
They live together under a one roof and breathe the same colourless air.
The destiny is little fair to them so far and she delivered twins a (Christmas) par with a black girl and a white boy.
Oh! A Christmas for them it’s really it seems.
He goes alone in the midnight Mass
And she heard beyond the colliery the church bell tolls.
The infants were baptized as Jesus and Mary
And it’s a once upon a time story.

* A Christmas gift to all my poet friends.

Lines On The North Of Scotland

Lines on the North of Scotland, delivered in Embro nearly a
quarter of a century ago:

Scotsmen have wandered far and wide,
From Moray Frith to Frith of Clyde;
McDonald, from his sea girt isle,
And Campbell from his broad Argyle-

But chiefly here you have come forth
From those countries of the north;
Some oft have trod Dunrobins's Halls,
And gazed upon its stately walls.

Here to-night in this array
Is Murray, McKenzie and McKay;
And there doth around us stand
The Munroe, Ross and Sutherland.

Your young men have high honour earned;
In all of the professions learned;
Your Bonnie Lasses sung in song,
And youths are famed for muscle strong.

In The Yard Behind The Church

In the yard, behind the church
Where butterflies and blackbirds search
For a safe place to rest the night away
We will go down to the brook
And sit upon the overlook
Then forget about the troubles of the day
We will walk among the graves of
Men long dead with Presidents' names and
Listen to the water flow softly by
I will kiss you on the lips now
And as the sky grows dark we'll strip down
And let the water wash away all lies
In the yard, behind the church
Where butterflies and blackbirds perch
On gravestones as the garden's growing dim
We will lay down on the ground
And put our cheeks against the dirt down
Where it no longer matters where you've been

Song - The Church Hall in Drummore

She’s sitting down beside the wall
When the music starts to play
I’m walking slowly ‘cross the hall
And I'm lost for words to say

I know her name and nothing more
But there’s something in her eyes
We’re in the village of Drummore
In the Church Hall side by side

Some kind of spell falls over us
It's the nineteen seventies
We’re oh so young and lost for love
And we gently start to kiss

Her lips are soft; she holds me tight
And we’re seized by tenderness
But something took me off that night
From her sweet and tender lips

From time to time I think of you
In your village by the shore
And how the years so quickly flew
Since we kissed then touched no more

I caught your eye in Mill Street once
And we said a warm hello
It turned my thoughts to love and chance
In the church hall in drummore

(chorus)
I held you in my arms that night
A short and precious time
And you were more than you’ll ever know
So long ago dear in Drummore
