That Was Many Years Ago

I was told many years ago,
By a college professor...
I had a tendency to write and speak,
Too lofty.
And 'if' I seriously wanted to communicate,
My thoughts for others to comprehend...
That I should perceive my audience,
To have mentalities of Third grade school children.

Well...
I did say that was many years ago.
Today...
No matter what I write or how I speak,
I am often asked 'WHERE' I am from?
So tempted am I to say...
'Somewhere your parents should have dropped you off.
Instead of wishing intelligence upon you.'

But,
Of course...
I keep those kind of comments to myself.
Especially today,
When I would only get a blank stare in return.
Or someone telling me to go back to Africa.
You know...
By those who are not believing Africa to be a huge continent,
With places far more advanced than TV depicts.

Few months ago

He left me in lurch few months ago
It did hurt me immensely not to forgo
It forced me to retaliate in turn
You were determined not to return

What was coming in between to humiliate?
How desperately was I forced it to relate?
The sadness and grief has come very late
As I was never cursing the luck or fate

How could I reveal that I had your baby?
Taking shape in womb and I felt so pity
This was fact of life and in fact reality
You have blown it out in its entirety

It was months after that I decided
I shall bear it along and strictly confided
Taken vow not to reveal to anybody
As you had now become nobody

You wrote number of times to know
Exactly what was in my mind to forgo?
Was that ego coming in between or false pride?
Is that the only reason to reveal or hide?

I continuously wept for months
I could have preferred silent death
Alas! I could do it but oh! For baby
She was coming in life as reality

You started again submissively
I felt it was all in sincerity and positively
Why at all that thing like distrust took place?
What was there now left to save the face?

You had come to know earlier about pregnancy
We had longed for it and continued with frequency
It was all for our future happiness and desire
Until one day you dropped bomb shell with satire

You had some doubts about its origin
You feared I had lived in margin
It unbearable came as bolt from blue
I was unable to think it right and view

It was still not late before making it public
We had different views with some logic
There is no medicine available to cure distrust
The faith is foundation for any relation and is must

I can assertively claim it as true with foot down
We can claim it legitimate and of our own
I have no desire to expose it to any radiation hazard
I realize everything will go well now onward

Will that be again home coming?
Will you be there for baby welcoming?
Let it be homeward and final comeback
We shall take it right with correct track

Life is not impossible to spend with reasons unknown
Only little care and understanding is to be made known
There may be temporary setback for little misunderstanding
Otherwise all decisions and steps are known and binding

A Poem Memorized Many Years Ago

A POEM MEMORIZED MANY YEARS AGO

A poem memorized many years ago
Lives in my mind
As if it were me.

So many poems
So much Life and Beauty
So much Goodness and Happiness.

Poems in me
Written by others.
Now my Soul.

Respect yourself and reflect on yourself for 50 years ago!
So, being backwards 50 years ago in time;
Then you can say about those days in time,
But today, you can also tell me the difference!!
Because, who feels it knows it all;
And, i am ready to tell you my story.

How Rarely These Few Years

How rarely all these few years, as work keeps us aloof,
Or fares, or one thing or another,
Have we had days to spend under our parents' roof:
Myself my sister, and my brother.

All five of us will die; to reckon from the past
This flesh and blood is unforgiving.
What's hard is that just one of us will be the last
To bear it all and go on living.

What you did 30 years ago is now being repeated today,
So there is nothing new under the sun;
And it is as if we are not well educated!
And the world goes round repeating itself.

Yes, our sins of yester years are being repeated over and over again!
And the world goes round with many wars here and there;
But, who is ready to change for the better?

Robert Louis Stevenson

Since Years Ago For Evermore

SINCE years ago for evermore
My cedar ship I drew to shore;
And to the road and riverbed
And the green, nodding reeds, I said
Mine ignorant and last farewell:
Now with content at home I dwell,
And now divide my sluggish life
Betwixt my verses and my wife:
In vain; for when the lamp is lit
And by the laughing fire I sit,
Still with the tattered atlas spread
Interminable roads I tread.

On This Day,5 Years ago

On this day five years ago we slowly watched you pass.

Now we sit here with just your soul and think about the past.

We said this was for the best but I don’t think that could be.

Because on this day five years ago you left us with just love and memory

Now I sit and write this poem for a very special man who left us all five years ago whilst we sat hand in hand.

In Memory of Robert Collins.

I was with you 11 years ago,
And now you are matured enough to be married;
However, i am very glad you've taken to my teachings,
And today, your cup overflows with love.
I am the biggest tree nearer to you,
But your love is like a lamp to my feet and a light to my path;
And i have the new moons and the conjuction of the time to share with you.
From sunset and to the moonset,
But i still remember how young you were 11 years ago!
However, be very kind to the man who wants to marry you today.

Sheltered Memories

I did some traveling
A few years ago
I wanted to meet family
That I really didn’t know

Some lived in the same
Family home for years
Full of precious memories
From happiness to tears

I listened to stories
These folks had to tell
Treasured sweet memories
I saw my notebook swell

For these were the stories
That needed to pass
Down through generations
So questions were asked

I saw how they lived
A different life from mine
Heard tales of today
Many from another time

I smile as I see photos
Of family from the past
Photos shelter memories
That will forever last!

If Thirty Years Ago or Less

It would have been wonderful 'if' thirty years ago...
Or less.
We all had embraced reality as fact and not fiction.

And those who spoke truth were not hushed as mavericks.
And priorities then,
Focused our minds in unity as a mindset.
Instead of a decadence that has trashed.
With conflicts that clash.

To have now a witnessed division,
Depicting a separateness into classes!
So once enjoyed by the masses.

Perhaps none of the current madness experienced,
Would exist to inflict upon our consciousness.
IF...
Thirty years ago,
Or less.
The majority had confessed...
A self examined sadness,
Now professed in regret as is reflected!

Forty Years Ago/ A Man Took A Small Step For Mankind

July 20 2009 FORTY YEARS AGO/ A MAN TOOK A SMALL STEP FOR MANKIND

Forty years ago
A man took a small step for mankind
On the ground
Like so many others
I wondered
What it meant for me.

The moon is still there
The stars still distant and unkind
An unmanned messenger of ours
Has touched down on Mars
The Universe waits for us
And no one has come calling yet.

My life has been pretty much lived
A quiet distance a small interval
Calling out to God.

But how we will go on
And what will become of us
And what we will be
reshaped to be
Here or there-
I will never know.

The generations to come
And the questions
No one can answer yet.

God here
And in the Distance.

Twenty Years Ago

It's been a long time since I walked
Through this old town
But oh how the memories start to flow
And there's the old movie house
They finally closed it down
You could find me there every Friday night
Twenty years ago.
I worked the counter at the drugstore down the street
But nobody's left there I would know
On Saturday mornings that's where
All my friends would meet
You'd be surprised to know what a dime would buy
Twenty years ago.
All my memories from those days come gather round me
What I'd give if they could take me back in time
It almost seems like yesterday
Where do the good times go?
Life was so much easier twenty years ago.
I guess I should stop by Mr. Johnson's hardware store
His only son was my friend Joe
But he joined the army back in 1964
How could we know he would never come back
Twenty years ago...

All Those Years Ago

Im shouting all about love
While they treated you like a dog
When you were the one who had made it
So clear
All those years ago.
Im talking all about how to give
They dont act with much honesty
But you point the way to the truth when you say
All you need is love.
Living with good and bad
I always look up to you
Now were left cold and sad
By someone the devils best friend
Someone who offended all.
Were living in a bad dream
Theyve forgotten all about mankind
And you were the one they backed up to
The wall
All those years ago
You were the one who imagined it all
All those years ago.
Deep in the darkest night
I send out a prayer to you
Now in the world of light
Where the spirit free of the lies
And all else that we despised.
Theyve forgotten all about god
Hes the only reason we exist
Yet you were the one that they said was
So weird
All those years ago
You said it all though not many had ears
All those years ago
You had control of our smiles and our tears
All those years ago

So Many Years Ago

Cigarette smoke undulating from my aunt’s lips,
And her boyfriend is coming down
On a bus from Tennessee;
And I am working so close to the smoking beach,
But I haven’t seen her in so long,
And still I do not go:
I want to be in Colorado secreted in the higher basins,
The important key-holes where the tourists
Are too weak to go;
In fact, I want to summit mountains that have never
Been,
Or have no right to be- for her, or one of my great
Great aught great forgotten grandmothers;
And her name is- just this,
Just a song happening in the night far to the east and
Under her,
Like a French man going down on a airplane,
Like a frog making love to an inebriated princess who
Just doesn’t care;
But that is all I have to say or even think about;
It was the best I could do when trying to remember how
You walked so tremulous and ecstatically real
Your painted nails on your locker’s combination,
Your painted toes in soccer cleats
So many classes, and forgotten generations so many years
Ago.

Immediately They Took Offense

What happened to the beautiful home,
That once elegantly stood here?

'The occupants burned it down,
When a new maintenance worker hired...
Just a few years ago,
'Suggested' that getting a new furnace...
Would save them a bundle in their utility bills.'

And...
They burned the house down?
Because of a suggestion?
That doesn't make sense.

'Well...
Those very same words were spoken,
By the maintenance worker...
Who attempted to tell them,
They were blinded by their own stubbornness.
And immediately they took offense.
And, well...
That beautiful home no longer exists.'

There's go to be more to it.

'Oh...
There is.
The residents declared him,
An arrogant lowly nobody.
Who was in no position to tell them 'what' to do.
And the head of the tenants' association,
Got the rest of the occupants to agree...
They would end his job.'

By burning down their own home?

'You wanted to know...
What happened to the beautiful home,
That once elegantly stood here?
That's what happened.

You should have heard the occupants applauding...
An hour before anyone called the fire station.'

Years Ago In Textile Showrooms...!

Years ago in textile showrooms
Eye-rivetting model replicas were on disply
Of both gents and ladies in great style
In ivory skin-tones looking gorgeous
In neatly dressed up colourful costumes
As if angels and fairies are treading on flower-feet
And blowing away our minds and thoughts
Dreaming passionately for a real life companion
With no heart to tear away our lingering looks!

In stage two, pitch-dark shapes
In uncaring looks and immodest postures
In so-called all modern outfits
Usurped these angels' glass-temples
Paining our looks with disgust!

There came stage three, these models
Again presented with still more atrocity
In clean-shaven heads, o both sexes,
In bitumen dark colours in featureless faces
With unbearable matchless costumes!

In stage four nowadays in showcases
An array of tar-black headless trunks
Represent the most modern men and women
As if someone unable to bear these ugly replicas
In utter fury had chopped off their heads,
Wearing hats in propped up sticks
With garments that sore our eyes,
Reminding nowadays one needs no brain nor head
Nor looks and charms to jump into these garments!

Lo..what about stage five?
Would there be monkeys and mongrels to greet in style?

Setting A Few Records Straight

There is nothing like confronting,
An adversary who initiates conflicts...
But somehow has forgotten,
The ones that attempted...
To ruin you and your reputation.

With character assassination...
And malicious gossip,
Propped up on lips nonstop!
The only ones knowing,
What this might be like...
Are those not living their lives,
Appeasing others...
Sitting on a fence.
And living in a noncommitment status!

With hand extended to welcome you,
The one with an absence of memory...
Invites you as someone new,
To a neighborhood...
You had long lived before,
Being ushered away years ago.
But those into 'looks' aren't consumed with history.

No...
There is nothing like it!
Nor is there anything quite like,
Those decisions one chooses to ignore or make!
Especially,
When confronted with setting a few records straight!

'You look as 'if' you have something on your mind.
What could someone like you...
Possibly have on your mind?
Besides me?
And...
I hope you don't think I am being too forward? '

~Not at all!
You're making this more easier than I initially thought.~

'You are such the tease! '

~You have no idea how close I am to stopping.
And just let you have what I'd like to deliver.
But...
With you,
I am going to take my time!
I hope you're into sports? ~

'Me?
I love them! '

~I'm learning to become fond of them myself.
I enjoy skydiving and mountain climbing.
Which one of those would you like to learn? ~

Swings and Slides

And she likes to ride
on the swing and rise
higher and higher and
see beyond the hedges

and see houses and trees
and people passing
and wonders if it's always
so and as she rises higher

her hands gripping the
ropes of the swing she
feels her stomach turn
and turn and remembers

when her mother's new
boyfriend pushed her
on the swing a few years
ago how he would say

how high you want to
go Celia? and he'd push
her higher and higher
and she called out I'm

frightened slow me down
but he just stood there
laughing and waving his
hands and gawking at her

legs as she went up and
down and she tried to slow
herself down but he just
pushed her high again and

she said I'll tell on you
pushing me too high but
he just shook his head
and pushed her instead

and then once he felt he
wanted to he pulled on
her ropes and slowed her
down and put his hands

on her thighs and squeezed
and held her there for a
moment or two staring
into her eyes and said that

wasn't too bad was it?
And he grinned and she
wanted to say something
to her mother but never did

and when she got home
she said nothing and just
went to her room and stared
out at the park with its swings

and slides and the innocent
children laughing and smiling
and full of joy unaware as
she was then and knows now

how touches and suggestions
can end the innocence of
childhood in a single moment
once and for all and to no good.
