But let there be no misunderstanding. The war against terror is every bit as important as our fight against fascism in World War II. Or our struggle against the spread of Communism during the Cold War.

Let There Be Peace On The Lummi Rez

Let there be peace on the Lummi Rez
Let us all get along and not fight
Even with the blood and crips
Let them be kewl.
Let us all have love for one another
Let all the parents stop the yelling and beating on the children, and teenagers
Let all family and friends stop arguing and
Just get along for once,
Let all be clothed with passionate patience,
Let all respect one another.
Let peace on this Lummi Rez,
Let peace calm the spirits of every domain,
Let peace beat at the Lummi Nation School,
Let each achieve peace with poor pain.
Peace, to you we plead: come to us.
Peace, we entreat you: deign on us.
Peace, we want you: envelope us.
Let our homes be adorned with peace,
Let our streets be paved with peace,
Let our rez have peace for once
Let peace taint our every thought.
Let there be peace, let peace never cease
Let there be peace, let war forever cease.

Ambrose Bierce

Genesis [God said, 'Let there be Crime,' and the command]

God said, 'Let there be Crime,' and the command
Brought Satan, leading Stoneman by the hand.
'Why, that's Stupidity, not Crime,' said God
'Bring what I ordered.' Satan with a nod
Replied, 'This is _one_ element-when I
The _other_-Opportunity-supply
In just equivalent, the two'll affine
And in a chemical embrace combine
And Crime result-for Crime can only be
Stupiditate of Opportunity.'
So leaving Stoneman (not as yet endowed
With soul) in special session on a cloud,
Nick to his sooty laboratory went,
Returning soon with t'other element.
'Here's Opportunity,' he said, and put
Pen, ink, and paper down at Stoneman's foot.
He seized them-Heaven was filled with fires and thunders,
And Crime was added to Creation's wonders!

Let There Be Peace

Let there be peace in the world.
Let us all see peace and not war.
For If there is no peace in the world,
Then the world will be no more.
But if we find peace in our hearts
And turn our backs to war,
Then the world will prosper and live forevermore.
For peace is stronger than hate
And hate is weaker than peace.
Let there be peace in the world, let peace never cease.
Let there be peace in the world, let war forever cease.

Let There Be Peace

Let there be peace, in those, that are pure of heart.
Let there be peace among men of difference.
Let there be peace on a hard winters day.
Let there be peace, before there is anger.
Let there be peace, in the valley of stress.
Let there be peace, among those we love.
Let there be peace, between all our faiths.
Let there be peace, when our day is done.
Let there be peace, in the universal message of man.
Let there be peace, in the canyons, of displacement.
Let there be peace, with the sick and the poor.
Let the rifles' be quieted and let there be peace.
Let men at war, replace confrontation, with peace.
Let political forces join together, and bring us peace.
Let men of all colors and religions, join in peace.
Let more money be spent on peace, than on war.
Let wasted billions, bring peace, to those less fortunate.

It matters not, what your religion, or who you
pray to...may you find peace.

Let There Be Love

Let there be you,
Let there be me.
Let there be oysters
Under the sea.
Let there be wind,
An occassional rain.
Chile con carne,
Sparkling champagne
Let there be birds
To sing in the trees,
Someone to bless me
Whenever I sneeze.
Let there be cuckoos,
A lark and a dove,
But first of all, please
Let there be love.
Let there be cuckoos,
A lark and a dove,
But first of all, please
Let there be love

Let There Be Hope

Boats afloat,
across an ocean moat
Sailing away,
a tyrants torment
With joyous rapture,
T'ward a life content.
rickety, leaking boat
Let there be hope.

Boats of hope,
human tragedy afloat
Sailing away,
a homelands fear
On terrorful waves
Closer now, sanctuary near.
listing, ailing boat,
Let there be hope.

Boats without hope,
Human misery, afloat
Sailing away,
from a life content
With sorrow filled hearts.
recapitulated, now their torment.
Scuttled, sinking boat,
let there be hope.

Boats nae float,
beneath an ocean moat
Sailing away,
a savior of deception
An islands hopeless souls
shattered dreams of redemption.
Fractured, sunken boat
let there be hope.

Stop the boats afloat,
across an ocean moat
Sailing t'ward,
asylum signed veracious
People who pride, 'fair go '
ah, but leaders are mendacious.
Rickety, Leaking Shattered Boat
please, let there be hope.

Let There Be Light/ Spirits Dancing In The Flesh

Chorus:
Let there be light
Let there be joy
Let there be love
And understanding
Let there be peace
Throughout the land.
Verse:
Lets work together
In harmony
Lets build a better world
No suffering
And in times of darkness
Just reach out
cause there is a promise
It wont be denied
Repeat chorus six times
Narration:
This is truly paradise
Being here in this celestial garden
With all the ones you love
Where nothing dies or ever grows old
And to be bathed in light
That cast no shadow
Yes
This is the kingdom within
Still you know
Sometimes I miss seeing and feeling
The spirits dancing in the flesh
Spirits dancing in the flesh
Intro:
Cant you see them all around
Theyre all around us
Spirits, spirits dancing all around us
Chorus - chant:
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
All over, all over, all over

Let There Be Music

let there be music
turn the music player on
let there be dancing
let there be laughter
let there be nice conversations
and feasting
and touching and kissing
let our hips sway
let there be drinking
and smoking
let there be noise
and stamping of feet
and clapping of hands

then i will announce
who will die next

The Cold War

The Cold War. (Norway 1964)

A group of ten men in cheap suits and hats, crew on a Soviet ship
anchored in the bay. Walked around the streets looking at window
displays. Suddenly one of the men broke away from the group,
he ran down a side road, but was swiftly caught by the local police,
who had followed the group a discreet distance; only few people
noticed the incident. The fugitive sat on the pavement crying, was
forced to join the group. The man, now surrounded by the others,
had no escape. They walked around a little longer like nothing odd
had happened, then they headed back to the docks where a boat
picked them up and drove them back to their vessel in the bay.

There Is Hope For The Future

The bombs have caused death and destruction and the families mourn their dead
But there is hope for the future for better days ahead
When those for peace and World harmony will finally prevail
For those who talk of waging war are surely doomed to fail.

There is hope for the future though I may not live to see my dream
Of a better life for everyone in a World where peace will reign supreme
A World free of borders and camps for refugees
Where the smell of death and destruction is not blowing in the breeze

There is hope for the future around me not all dark
I hear young children playing in the playground in the park
The children are the future and they may well unite
Behind a peaceful leader who won't lead by power of might.

There is hope for the future and all surely not lost
Though there won't be peace tomorrow and 'twill come at a great cost
The Rose of Peace will bloom again though with the dead I lay
And the young and enlightened leaders to peace will lead the way.

Running From The Cold

I took off last night with my coat and my intention
To make connections with the eyes that left me blind
Left my love for the strength of that white, white line
I left one more time I could have heard I love you
One more time I could have heard I care
One more time when I needed that emotion
One more time I wasnt even there
Through the darkness and the distance
Lie champagne and smoky smiles
Bounded by the sorrow having lost love to the miles
I feel you
Youre not a stranger to this white, white line
I watched your eyes chose words so slowly
Illusions to my view
But I laugh and say its highway 75 that draws me here
Its not me and its not you
There was one more time when I should have said I love you
One more time when I should have told you I care
When we sit here in silence
And we miss the ones we love that cant be here
Its the love we leave behind
I tried to lose this restless spirit in a mission of regrets
But I cant survive without this war
And your eyes reflect the visions that I cant forget
I find balance on a darkened highway
I find truth by the side of the road
And someone elses tune to lift me high above the line
That leaves me running from the cold
Running from the cold
Running from the cold

Is There A Poem Of The Afternoon?

IS THERE A POEM OF THE AFTERNOON?

Is there a poem of the afternoon?
Sadness at so little having been done in the morning
I have spent a life escaping
And today too I escaped
Learning studying reading
Other worlds other people other minds
Far from practical problems.

The sun is strong today and the summer come early
And the days will be long now with the clock changed
I have tried to focus on Poetry this year
But I have not really gone back to re-read the Poems of my life

War threatens for a change
It may be that our city will be on fire and our neighborhood burn as never before
We pray somehow for a miracle of survival without war and destruction

They hate us and they hate us and they hate us
One – fifth of mankind cannot bear two- tenths of one percent of us

Pesach will be here in two weeks time
I have written only a small fraction of all that is in me
And even that is far too much for me to ever reread

Life goes on for now
I am still alive
It is a beautiful sunny afternoon in Yerushalyim
I have been here for thirty- four years now

There should be somehow one decisive concluding line
That brings this poem together
And makes it worthwhile

How happy I am in my old age now loving life so much
G-d has been so good to me through all these years
What a beautiful beautiful day to look out at from inside.

There was crimson clash of war.

There was crimson clash of war.
Lands turned black and bare;
Women wept;
Babes ran, wondering.
There came one who understood not these things.
He said, "Why is this?"
Whereupon a million strove to answer him.
There was such intricate clamour of tongues,
That still the reason was not.

A War to End War.................

Where poppies used to grow
Now a theatre of muddy war.
Hear England’s best did bleed
To seed the earth with death,
Upon the killing fields;
And shell shocked men did quake
With each blaze of cannonades that
Shook the already savaged ground.
Here sad corpses lay unburied;
Never to see homeward shores
But to lie discomfited, lost;
In the cold discolured earth.
A war to end war?
No, so here we are again,
Our soldiers bravely die.
Lost in another foreign field
Where opium poppies grow.

Let there be Peace

Let there be Peace
Let there be peace but not at any price
So games of chance, rolls of the dice
Do not disdainfully dictate like all the rest
That some should rule, some be repressed.
Let lives be counted for their proper worth;
Let no human being brought to birth
Be sacrificed in vain for wounded pride.
Let not a single man, who died
In conflict, be dismissed as second-rate.
Even the enemy deserves a better fate
Than mere obliteration; it's a fact.
Let politicians show a bit of tact
When they, too quick to blame the other
For the mess, forget their brother
Man; for they should have the grace
To recognise each member of the human race
Is just like them, so fallible and weak.
Instead of being rash, they should be meek,
Try to say sorry and apologise
When they make a mistake and not tell lies,
For they are not such fools who seek for us to show
Some understanding for their faults. They know
Within their beings that it is the wise
Who know their limits, recognise
The times when they must take the blame.
They must know they're not in it for the fame
But that they're there to serve, part of the plan
That asks the powerful to do what they can
To help the poor, the victim and the underclass.
They must not let the sacred moment pass
When they can stand for good and not for bad;
Then peace may come, peace may be had
By all, regardless of their various views.
Yet peace does not make headlines and the news
Of evil that men do just seems to dominate.
Why can't they realise it's not too late
To change their minds and act for peace
So all may live together, wars may cease
If tolerance could rule, instead of fear
And though this time of peace seems not too near
Let all of us determine that one day
Peace will conquer war and peace will stay.

Let me woo you in the wee of the hour

Let me woo you in the wee
Of the hour when we are sitting beneath a shady tree
Among its boughs we laugh and kiss
There no adder dares to hiss

When kissing speaks with lustful language
Troubles would be gone, oh vanish anguish
My lips will roam in your garden of roses
Missing none of your thousands posies
Seven kisses short as one
Would leave the work undone
And even one long as ten
Would not bring our happy scene to its end

The day will seem as an hour short
When dealing with such pleasures and sport
Your lips cloyed with loathed satiety
Turning red and pale with fresh variety
You lie tied and tangled in my net
I cannot tell
Is it content or is it fret?
Though you tender panting shows you are unripe
I will let none of your advantages slip

Do not be so shy and coy to play your part
In our time-beguiling art
This primrose bush on which we lean
Never can guess or deem what we mean
None of its buds can see or blab
The gaudy grasshopper is too busy after its pulp
And the heavy smug frog
Into the bottom’s lake plops
We can hide well behind the vermilion-veined tulip
On its flowery bed we can rest or sleep
The crowds of cowslip ahead never prattle
Nor their distinguished neighbor the shy myrtle

No doubt our scene is not in sight
So be pert nimble and full of conceit
From your tempting lips I will rob a drop
And my blood in my veins starts to throb
Who can believe that one dropp from such a barrel
Makes one’s eyes see but pearls

Then we can our pose exchange
And let your voluptuous lips do the command
Mine, what love-slaves would love to obey
While yours never feed on such luscious prey
As a fierce falcon sharp by fast
Your lips on mine forever last
At dusk we can love on the lawn
Where no one peeps or glances except the moon alone
Leave our lure on the bosom of a lush lea
Never the world has known such glee

At midnight we lave at the falls of the vales
Encircled by lofty trees and sturdy dales
On the glassy face of a spangled bay
We chase the moon light quite a way
You are naked and gilded colossus
Against the moon-luster blazes
Outdoing in beauty and grace
Any ocean nymph with human face

You bask in the starry string of a night dark
Amazing the heavily sleeping lark
Dive and plump in the silent lake
Leaving around circulates glittering idly without a break
Until they all melt into one glamorous track
To contend with the moon sheen
Such a war of lights was never before seen
Then dip and leap and dive again
Splashing liquid pearls on every lane
Some watery stones took a longer pass
Falling on the long bladed grass
Turning it to studded swords of mighty kings
The imperious supreme of all mortal things
Only one stubborn watery gem earnestly craved
To use the lovely vale of your breast as its internal cave

At dawn we site upon lofty hills
And watch the farmers lining furrows on the fields
Or we can mount the craggy rocks
And watch the shepherds lead their flocks
By shallow brooks and rank springs
The melodious morning birds would for us sing

Come love; gather our flower days on their prime
Or they would be consumed and wasted by rushing time
The days of our youth are sweet but short
They race to their end as the foaming waves to pebbled shore
