Power Within

As far as the eye can see
There's so much uncertainty
I'm not blind
I see the truth
Open my eyes
I never knew the strength inside of me
Could ever make me wanna help to change the world
Follow my destiny
Hope's not gone
You're gonna see
It makes a difference
When you beleive
The power within
Can make the pyramid of light
Shine forever
Until the eighth millenium
We're gonna be together
But I don't know how
And I don't know when
All I know
We're gonna win
There's a hope for a balanced world
Yeah
And it's written in the cards
We are strong
When we are one
There's a higher purpose
Waiting for us
The power within
Can make the pyramid of light
Shine forever
Until the eighth millenium
We're gonna be together
But I don't know how
And I don't know when
All I know
We're gonna win
And you know
You can rely on me
For advice
You'll stay in my heart
And I don't
(Don't wana go)
Don't wanna go
(Don't wanna leave)
Don't wanna leave
But the power within
The power within
Can make the pyramid of light
Shine forever

My buddies (a reply to Boris Slutsky)

All young white men at a time
was forced into the military, into war
or had to serve a three year jail term

and most of my buddies came home,
but some did not:

Parachuting into a enemy camp
there was one close friend that died,
the other three I hardly knew
and to the government it was
an incidental small thing against
seven hundred and fifty
enemy SWAPO and Cuban casualties

and on one patrol one close buddy
stepped on a landmine
were blown up and no one else was hurt,
and to the government it was
an incidental small thing against
the enemy that had lost
little lest than a full platoon.

In Angola when we met enemy armour,
turned FAPLA / Cuban divisions
under Soviet leadership into junk

I saw a Ratel armoured car
that was trapped in a landmine field
that had been shot out
with the holes
were enemy tank projectiles went in
and every one inside was burnt, incinerated
if not blown to bits, turned into ash

and it had been only one of eleven
armoured cars
and troop carriers that was lost
some of only thirty-one soldiers dead
but there was pain that flashed through me
when I saw it

and to the government it was
an incidental small thing against
four thousand seven hundred and eighty five killed
on the Cuban/FAPLAN side,94 tanks
and hundreds of enemy combat vehicles destroyed

and now no one thinks
of the sacrifice that all of these soldiers made,

I Am Curious

(carole pope / kevan staples)
Im curious, I wanna know
Im an idealist, Ill let it show
Im curious with myself
Im delirious from wanting
The noise that announces a seduction
Im a volcano
In a state of eruption
I live life with a wild intensity
Need to be aroused
To the point of intimacy
What are your motives?
I got to know
Im doing research
I got to know
What are your motives?
I got to know
Tell me your motives, oh, oh
cause Im curious, I wanna know
Im an idealist, Ill let it show
Im curious with myself
Im delirious from wanting
The fusing, the melting of two bodies
Im addicted to lethal sexuality
I live life on the edge of ecstasy
Need to be desired
Nothing else fulfils me
What are your motives?
I got to know
Im doing research
I got to know
What are your motives?
I got to know
Tell me your motives, ooh, ooh
Im curious, I wanna know
Im an idealist, Ill let it show
Im curious with myself
Im delirious from wanting
Im curious, I wanna know
Im an idealist, Ill let it show
Im curious with myself
Im delirious from wanting
Yes, Im curious, I wanna know
Im an idealist, Ill let it show
I am curious with myself
Too delirious from singing
cause Im curious, I wanna know
Im an idealist, Ill let it show
Im curious with myself
Im delirious from wanting

Afternoon High

The sunlight hits the corner of your eye
As it bounces off the morning sky
The summer in the 70s fly by
Bye
Daylight hits the corners of your mind
Steals the thought you thought no one could find
Close your eyes and it will rob you blind
Blind
Incidental memories collide
Sentimental reveries abide
Afternoon high
Daylight hits the corners of your mouth
Steals the words that filled you up with doubt
Open up and let them all fall out
Honey smoothes the wrinkles from you bed
Gone are the indentations of your head
Leaving just the frown upon your forehead
Incidental memories collide
Sentimental reveries abide
Afternoon high
Worry works a wrinkle over time
Open eyes and let it rob you blind
Incidental memories collide
People tell me you've been blinded by
On afternoon high
On afternoon high
On afternoon high

On a Close-up of Louis Esterhuizen, on His Poem “Winnie”

So tell me Louis, you allege:
“I went to look at the remarks
found in his biographical sketch:
“I love the work of various poets
and my favourites are AG Visser, Eugene Marais,
Ingrid Jonker, D.J. Opperman, N.P. Van Wyk Louw,
William Shakespeare, Dylan Thomas, John Keats,
Robert Frost, W.B. Yeats, Yahuda Amichai,
Hannah Szenes, Stevie Smith, Dorothy Parker
and even Homer.””

Further you say: “With the exception of a few names
under the English favourites, all the Afrikaans poets are experts
whom he probably encountered at school,
if a person looks at the verses on his page
you realise that Mr. X has never grown past the incidental
school-contact...In this he is alas not unique.”

Still you are the great master
where it comes to the works of Homer,
as you make a comparison
in your poem “Winnie” between Me. Winnie Mandela
and Homer’s character Penelope,
where there are in reality flagrant contrasts
and the masters canonise this poem
in the “Great Verse Book”
without even being aware of the contrasts?

Let me as just a unfolding poet
who “has never grown past
the incidental school-contact, ”
point out the contrasts clearly:

The story of Penelope comes
out of Homer’s Odyssey where the title
indicates a long historical journey or adventure
or some wanderings
that the main character Odysseus / Ulysses
undertakes before again arriving
at the island Ithaca
where he rules as the king.

For only a very short while
Odysseus / Ulysses is with the nymph Circe
on a island, but the greatest part of the book
is about his wanderings.

In flagrant contrast you write:
”And Penelope comes forward, impatient
and rude as Ulysses is only moving rocks

An Explication of MY Faith And Its Rewards (For His Good To Shine Through Both of Us)

You have always asked me to explain MY Faith, and I would IF I could;
Beloved, I believe Heavenly Father is demonstrating now, it is FOR His Good
To shine through BOTH of us, as two of His Most Beloved Children, acting as one-
His Work for us, and for each one of us as individuals, is not done
Until He says it is-obviously, He believes it has only just now begun
To blossom into the Wonder that He has in store for us-He has surely spun
A Marvelous Wonder in the last few weeks, and He has only just started
To Teach us of our combined Wonder and Glory-He alone has imparted
To us, the path that we are now on, and the Story we tell will only become
More Glorious still, with each passing day-Surely He is more than gleesome
At the alterations He has Made both in, and for, both of us-and in us, together;
He has Shone upon us, the Resplendent Beacon that shall light our way forever,
Until we meet Him again in His Heavenly Kingdom, as His Favored Consortium-
Where we shall blithely Dwell as an Eternal Couplet, millenium after millenium!

Waltz For Eva And Che

Che: Tell me before I waltz out of your life
Before turning my back on the past
Forgive my impertinent behavior
But how long do you think this pantomime can last

Tell me before I ride off in the sunset
There's one thing I never got clear
How can you claim your our savior
When those who oppose you are stepped on or cut up
Or simply disappear

Eva: Tell me before you get onto your bus
Before joining the forgotten brigade
How can one person like me say
Alter the time honored way the game is played

Tell me before you get onto your high horse
Just what you expect me to do
I don't care what the borguoisie say
I'm not in buisness for them but to give all my descamisados
A magical moment or two

Eva and Che: There is evil ever around
Fundamental system of government quite incidental

Eva: So what are my chances of honest advances
I'd say lo better to win by admitting my sin than to lose with the halo

Che: Tell me before I seek worthier pastures
And thereby restore self esteem
How can you be so short sighted
To look never further than this week or next week
To have no impossible dream

Eva: Allow me to help you slink of to the sidelines
And mark your adeiu with three cheers
But first tell me who'd be delighted
If I said I'd take on the world's greatest problems
From war to polution no hope of solution
Even if I live for 100 years

Eva and Che: There is evil ever around
Fundamental system of government
Quite incidental

Eva: So go if you're able to somewhere unstable and stay there
Whip up your hate in some tottering state
But not here dear
Is that clear dear

XI. Guido

You are the Cardinal Acciaiuoli, and you,
Abate Panciatichi—two good Tuscan names:
Acciaiuoli—ah, your ancestor it was
Built the huge battlemented convent-block
Over the little forky flashing Greve
That takes the quick turn at the foot o' the hill
Just as one first sees Florence: oh those days!
'T is Ema, though, the other rivulet,
The one-arched brown brick bridge yawns over,—yes,
Gallop and go five minutes, and you gain
The Roman Gate from where the Ema's bridged:
Kingfishers fly there: how I see the bend
O'erturreted by Certosa which he built,
That Senescal (we styled him) of your House!
I do adjure you, help me, Sirs! My blood
Comes from as far a source: ought it to end
This way, by leakage through their scaffold-planks
Into Rome's sink where her red refuse runs?
Sirs, I beseech you by blood-sympathy,
If there be any vile experiment
In the air,—if this your visit simply prove,
When all's done, just a well-intentioned trick,
That tries for truth truer than truth itself,
By startling up a man, ere break of day,
To tell him he must die at sunset,—pshaw!
That man's a Franceschini; feel his pulse,
Laugh at your folly, and let's all go sleep!
You have my last word,—innocent am I
As Innocent my Pope and murderer,
Innocent as a babe, as Mary's own,
As Mary's self,—I said, say and repeat,—
And why, then, should I die twelve hours hence? I—
Whom, not twelve hours ago, the gaoler bade
Turn to my straw-truss, settle and sleep sound
That I might wake the sooner, promptlier pay
His due of meat-and-drink-indulgence, cross
His palm with fee of the good-hand, beside,
As gallants use who go at large again!
For why? All honest Rome approved my part;
Whoever owned wife, sister, daughter,—nay,
Mistress,—had any shadow of any right
That looks like right, and, all the more resolved,
Held it with tooth and nail,—these manly men
Approved! I being for Rome, Rome was for me.
Then, there's the point reserved, the subterfuge
My lawyers held by, kept for last resource,
Firm should all else,—the impossible fancy!—fail,
And sneaking burgess-spirit win the day.
The knaves! One plea at least would hold,—they laughed,—
One grappling-iron scratch the bottom-rock

On The Run

In the aftermath, of a battle won
we celebrate with the rising sun
Sub Noize tribe good god we on the run
and we wont stop till the war is won
because we strong like a green beret
special forces of peace and unity
day to day song to song the battle rages on
replenishing my soul the mighty power of my zong
when i'm thinking bout back home when i'm wondering why
how'd i end up on the road what's the effect on my life why
like a fugitive we on the run
runnin like were under the gun
you know we do it all for you
because your motives are true
we're on the run till the war is won
our work ain't done
you know we'd rather be with you
on the road doin shows my life's been crazy
for the past 5 years its been me and my lady
only good things come for those who truly believe
all the time i spent alone i never thought i would leave
so in life i live and learn i aint takin nothin back
with the things that have happened that are makin me sad
another day goes by gotta show respect its a love that i give and that i dont regret
another town down another show we musta wrecked another day
close to being home i get, with the tears blood and sweat
the sacrifices made, if there were fans and a P.A.
then we wanted to play, way before gettin paid way
back when we was dreamin', when i worked the nine
to five to cover up the triple beamin, when i never
thought of leavin have you always by my side, how'd i
end up on the road what's the effect on my life why
like a fugitive we on the run
runnin like were under the gun
you know we do it all for you
because your motives are true
we're on the run till the war is won
our work ain't done
you know we'd rather be with you
?????? penetrating zongs
the freedom fights on we multiplying like clones
every day's a new day gettin high feel lovely
enlighten minds we're trying to rise above see
for too long
they haven't treated us right
their motives wrong
cause its the people they fight
we sing this song
so everybody unite
freedom fighters keep pushin on

Thanks for fine gesture

“Would you like to have some food “
We were watching laborers daily and understood
How much it was difficult to work under hot sun
They were toiling very hard to earn

“No sir, thanks for your kind gesture”
We can’t make exceptions any more
Today you are offering ready meal
To morrow who will be there to feel?

If I accept for one day as you are offering
My all habits may witness change and altering
I may search for it daily from somewhere
To our bad luck it may not be coming from anywhere

I was stunned to hear his philosophical thoughts
He was simple worker but fully aware of plight
As worker how much he had to struggle to find square meal
He was satisfied with his work as effort made in direction were real

He was getting enough to meet his family needs
He did not know what were the motives behind deeds?
He was sure of treatment after putting up hard struggle
It was timely help to come out of little troubles

The message was clear and nicely delivered
It was out of some pity and just offered
It was not well judged from his point of view
As little availability of food was not his need or due

Sometimes we feel very much elated at little gain
If that has come to us without much efforts or pain
It is human tendency to accept the offer without reluctance
We can observe it in our daily life with many more instances

We must work hard and don’t compromise with stand
It may not offer immediate return but strengthen the trend
We may never go in for short cut and accept undue favors
As it may spoil your tendency to feel bad and sour

We are all governed by inherited spirit
Shower the praise words when offer to greet
It has some motives to please a person
But in fact guided by selfish motives with reasons

Prejudice

IN yonder red-brick mansion, tight and square,
Just at the town's commencement, lives the mayor.
Some yards of shining gravel, fenced with box,
Lead to the painted portal--where one knocks :
There, in the left-hand parlour, all in state,
Sit he and she, on either side the grate.
But though their goods and chattels, sound and new,
Bespeak the owners very well to do,
His worship's wig and morning suit betray
Slight indications of an humbler day

That long, low shop, where still the name appears,
Some doors below, they kept for forty years :
And there, with various fortunes, smooth and rough,
They sold tobacco, coffee, tea, and snuff.
There labelled drawers display their spicy row--
Clove, mace, and nutmeg : from the ceiling low
Dangle long twelves and eights , and slender rush,
Mix'd with the varied forms of genus brush ;
Cask, firkin, bag, and barrel, crowd the floor,
And piles of country cheeses guard the door.
The frugal dames came in from far and near,
To buy their ounces and their quarterns here.
Hard was the toil, the profits slow to count,
And yet the mole-hill was at last a mount.
Those petty gains were hoarded day by day,
With little cost, for not a child had they ;
Till, long proceeding on the saving plan,
He found himself a warm, fore-handed man :
And being now arrived at life's decline,
Both he and she, they formed the bold design,
(Although it touched their prudence to the quick)
To turn their savings into stone and brick.
How many an ounce of tea and ounce of snuff,
There must have been consumed to make enough !

At length, with paint and paper, bright and gay,
The box was finished, and they went away.
But when their faces were no longer seen
Amongst the canisters of black and green ,
--Those well-known faces, all the country round--
'Twas said that had they levelled to the ground
The two old walnut trees before the door,
The customers would not have missed them more.
Now, like a pair of parrots in a cage,
They live, and civic honours crown their age :
Thrice, since the Whitsuntide they settled there,
Seven years ago, has he been chosen mayor ;
And now you'd scarcely know they were the same ;
Conscious he struts, of power, and wealth, and fame ;

Chosen Motives to Deceive

Ulterior motives,
Not realized exposed
On one's exterior to be seen,
Is expected from a child
Trying to hide a discovery,
Beginning to take a pride
In aspects of manipulation.

But an immature adult,
Unrehearsed
Offends,
Without knowing
Their chosen motives to deceive,
Lacks practice and experience.
And this when witnessed is disrespectful.

Murderer

(m&l - hansen)
He said get ut of here nobody wants you here
You smashed his head and the man died
And theres a murmur loud
From the appearing crowd
Searching for motives and reason why
Now take a look at yourself and youll see
What you are in the eyes of the world
You didnt want it but now hes dead
And youre on the run of the law
Youre a murderer in every town
Murderer to the whole world
Murderer youre on the run
Murderer youll have to kill... again
And like an animal which scaped from the cage
Theyre hunting you over their holy land
Traps waiting everywhere you fall in deep despair
Darkness and night your owly friends
One day the chase will be over for you
And youll find your own peace in the end
Some day you will find a sanctuary
Death!... but so long my friend...
Youre a murderer in every town
Murderer to the whole world
Murderer youre on the run
Murderer youll have to kill... again
He said get ut of here nobody wants you here
You smashed his head and the man died
And theres a murmur loud
From the appearing crowd

17 Magazine

Talked to my sister late last night.
And she gave me some advice.
And what she said was right.
Talked to my sister late last night.
I said I've got her on my mind.
She said It's good I know my kind.
*Chorus*
And maybe this time,
Maybe she's just the one you need.
Keep taking your time,
You shouldn't go for her full speed.
And maybe this time,
Maybe she's just the one you need.
Cause I know that I've never seen your
Motives more squeaky clean,
And my 17 magazine tells me that youre in love.
Jessica told me I should take a quiz.
10 yes or no questions
To tell me what love really is.
I searched for my answers,
I lied and said I like *Nsync.
They said my middle name's Don Juan,
And I'm sure of myself I think.
And maybe this time,
Maybe she's just the one you need.
Keep taking your time,
You shouldn't go for her full speed.
And maybe this time,
Maybe she's just the one you need.
Cause I know that I've never seen your
Motives more squeaky clean,
And my 17 magazine tells me that youre in love.
And maybe this time,
Maybe she's just the one you need.
Keep taking your time,
You shouldn't go for her full speed.
And maybe this time,
Maybe she's just the one you need.
I say if youre asking me,
Love is sacred love is sweet,
My 17 magazine tells me that youre in love.
My 17 Magazine
My 17 Magazine
My 17 Magazine tells me that youre in love.

The Other Way

I want to help you
But I don't know how
I want to soothe you
But I can't speak out
I have many fears
About rejection
I have many memories of pain
I have always been a bit too shy
So I'll turn and look the other way
[Chorus:]
Other way
Other way
I will turn and look the other way
I want to hold you
But I am afraid
I want to touch you
But I'm not that way
I have many doubts about my motives
I have many fears about my breed
I have always hurt the women I love
So I'll turn and look the other way
[Chorus:]
Other way
Other way
I will turn and look the other way
[guitar solo]
I have many doubts about my motives
I have many fears about my breed
I have always hurt the women I love
So I'll turn and look the other way
[chorus:]
Other way
Other way
I will turn and look the other way
Other way
Other way
I will turn and look the other way
Other way
Other way
I will turn and look the other way
Other way
Other way
Other way
Other way. (wayyyy)

Divine Mission

I try to peep in divine eyes
I am not sure yet I find it is worth to try
I may get answer through lovely stare
Even though “Carolyn” may not find it fair

She is totally different with earthly figure
She may stand for principles for sure
What does she want in return?
Absolute welfare and wait for ordinary turn

Why do people waste their precious life in mission?
When many have blot on their face with guilt admission?
I am for sure about her social standing
She has everything to speak about and for understanding

I don’t believe in gossips
I too don’t like flying missionaries on trips
What do they have to claim for real struggle?
When life is uncertain and like water bubble

Not all can perform miracle with ordinary task?
So many may come forward and ask?
What can be real motives for such a horrible adventure?
When no one can offer anything for bright future?

She may be towering strength for many aspirants
Many might have come from distant land as migrants
To whom they can look as real figure for onward march?
I think she is there with all her vision for serving as torch

I know nothing about her inner zeal
Yet I feel so close and feel it real
Why do we need any angels to descend from heaven?
When we have enough in her as green

No eyes can stare or penetrate at you if lack sincerity
This is sign of greatness and very fine quality
Not all people may try to see the motives
As the people remain narrow minded and selective

I shall not adore her as something special
But can’t offer any criticism or denial
She is there by her own right
Else who comes forward with mission to fight?
