It only worked for a little while; the morning after I agreed to go with Universal, an article came out in the Hollywood trade papers, and the secret was out.

For A Little While

(phil vassar/steve mandile/jerry vandiver)
(track 2 - time 3:33)
Hot sun dancin on the river
Were sittin on the bank and watch the world go by
Our feet in the water she pressed her lips to mine
We were so long on love but short on time
She could be a honeymoon sweet and a little wild
But she was mine oh, for a little while
And I laugh everytime I start to think about us
We sent that summer out in style
And shes gone but she let me with a smile
cause she was mine for a little while
Wed take a ride and head on down to airport road
Put the seats back watch the planes leave town
She always said nobodys strong enough to tie her down
Oh but I wasnt lookin for that anyhow
I knew shed leave but I didnt know when
It matters to me now oh but it didnt back then
And I laugh everytime I start to think about us
We sent that summer out in style
And shes gone but she let me with a smile
cause she was mine for a little while
I keep seein pictures now of me and her and those summer nights
My mind fills with her
Oh but its alright
cause I laugh everytime I start to think about us
We sent that summer out in style
And shes gone but she let me with a smile
cause she was mine for a little while
Yeah she was mine for a little while

Take Me For A Little While

I've been trying
To make you love me
But everything I try
Just takes you further from me
You don't love me
So you treat me cruel
But no matter how you hurt me
I'll always be your fool
[Chorus:]
If you don't want me forever
And if you don't need me forever
And if you can't love me forever
Take me for a little while
So I can hold you baby
(For a little while)
So I can make you want me
I've got to stop it
There should be a law
Cause every time you put me down
I love you more
And I feel so helpless
And it ain't funny
Cause deep inside I know
You're never gonna love me
[Chorus]

Fairytales

We all know fairytales are not real,
But can be very sweet.
The princesses always are the way we wish to feel,
Pretty, nice and petite.
Belle eventually got her beast,
Cinderella got her Prince Charming.
Who was left with the least,
Me who was left last and disarming.
It only lasted for a little while,
The heart ache and hurt,
But soon I bagan to smile,
Becoming more alert.
Fairytales keep hopes in tact,
And keep you thinking.
They keep distnace between fiction and fact,
Keep our world and theirs....linking!
Wishing to be in their stories,
Having fun as well as dreams.
Sharing their glories,
Always winning them, it seems.
But we all know there is never a happy ending,
Just death and sadness.
Let's enter their world..... Bending,
Ours into gladness.

Just A Little While

I have to go away
My flights not far away
You think your love has strength
But its just your mind, oh yeah
My heart is in your hand
Waiting for your command
Thats enough assurance to believe Im true
So baby hold on
[chorus:]
Just a little while
Just a little while longer
Just a little while
Im coming back to you
In a little while
For a little while longer
In a little while
Im coming back
A thousand wasted tears
Our loves been strong for years
Your cry is not in vain
Cuz I understand
Im trying to be the man
You loved when we began
Your cry is not alone
Im crying too
You gotta hold on
[chorus]
If only you knew my love
You wouldmt feel this way
Baby dont be afraid
Cuz Im coming back to you
Do you hear my plea
For understanding
Wait for me
In my arms youre gonna be
In just
[repeat chorus until fade]

Little Donkey /The Stable

Little Donkey fold your legs on straw so golden.
You are about to see a wondrous sight.
A couple, shepherds, and three wise kings
Following a star, out of the cold dark night

Inn keeper prepare a place of rest,
From where sheep once fed.
A fleece for a blanket,
With only straw for his head.

Hear the angels tell the news,
Our Savoir will be born this night.
Bethlehem his town of birth,
Far from fanfare, well out of sight. [chorus]

Let us remember our Jesus this Christmas eve,
Come all and worship Him.
Bring your gifts as if to Him,
The Lord of lords, and King of kings.

Song - Wait But A Little While

WAIT but a little while
The bird will bring
A heart in tune for melodies
Unto the spring,
Till he who ’s in the cedar there
Is moved to trill a song so rare,
And pipe her fair.

Wait but a little while
The bud will break;
The inner rose will open and glow
For summer’s sake;
Fond bees will lodge within her breast
Till she herself is plucked and prest
Where I would rest.

Wait but a little while
The maid will grow
Gracious with lips and hands to thee,
With breast of snow.
To-day Love ’s mute, but time hath sown
A soul in her to match thine own,
Though yet ungrown.

The First Night

Now night comes, the first night in the grave.
O where is all the brightness that surrounded you?
Your bed is made in the cold earth.
How will you sleep tonight?

Your pillow is damp from the last rain;
nightbirds scream, scared away by the wind;
no little lamps burn for you now; only the moonlight,
cold and pale, plays on the place where you sleep.

The hours creep by-- will you sleep till daylight?
Do you, like me, hear every toll of the bell?
How can I lie peacefully and sleep for a little while
when you, my love, are in such a bad bed?

You came, you went with a light trace,
a fleeting guest in this land of earth;
Where from? Whither? We only know:
from God's hand to God's hand.

Got To Get Better In A Little While

By eric clapton
Dont you know whats wrong with me?
Im seeing things I dont want to see.
Sniffing things that aint no good for me.
Im going down fast, wont you say a prayer for me?
Its got to get better in a little while.
Its got to get better in a little while.
Its got to get better in a little while.
Its got to get better in a little while.
The suns got to shine on my guitar someday.
Revolution all across the land.
Just like sly, you got to take a stand.
Please dont hurt nobody, dont knock them down;
Give them a helping hand to get off the ground.
Chorus
The suns got to shine on my guitar someday.
Still one thing that you can do;
Fall down on your knees and pray.
I know the lords gonna answer you.
Dont do it tomorrow, do it today.
Chorus ad infinitum

The Secret

SHE passes in her beauty bright
Amongst the mean, amongst the gay,
And all are brighter for the sight,
And bless her as she goes her way.

And now a gleam of pity pours,
And now a spark of spirit flies,
Uncounted, from the unlock’d stores
Of her rich lips and precious eyes.

And all men look, and all men smile,
But no man looks on her as I:
They mark her for a little while,
But I will watch her till I die.

And if I wonder now and then
Why this so strange a thing should be—
That she be seen by wiser men
And only duly lov’d by me:

I only wait a little longer,
And watch her radiance in the room;
Here making light a little stronger,
And there obliterating gloom,

(Like one who, in a tangled way,
Watches the broken sun fall through,
Turning to gold the faded spray,
And making diamonds of dew).

Until at last, as my heart burns,
She gathers all her scatter’d light,
And undivided radiance turns
Upon me like a sea of light.

And then I know they see in part
That which God lets me worship whole:
He gives them glances of her heart,
But me, the sunshine of her soul.

I Still Love the City, But the City Doesn't Love Me

Some have told me the city will ruin me
Some said the city is an ugly place
The city has marred better men than me

I hadn’t lived in the city for quite some time,
But living there again was an amazing experience

The city glowed with a dazzling beauty,
Pumping a vitality in my veins
Through my heart, an exuberant,
Youthful feeling of excitement

I let the city have my heart.
I thought the city gave me hers.
This love was not meant to last.
I had to leave the city for a little while.

The city couldn’t handle the distance,
Provoking the city to eject me from
The city’s heart, ripping and tearing
Until I was only a memory, a fling

So I left the city in search of a new life.
I found myself alone in the desert.
I convinced myself the city was only
A memory locked away

The days were sweltering and arduous,
The nights were frigid and excruciating

These times were spent alone, in silence
Where almost no life is sustainable,
And I ignored the ghosts which
Maliciously brought about vibrant,
Heartwarming thoughts of the city

I turned North, the city far passed
The horizon, though its glimmer
Reaches me still

Its lights do nothing but illuminate
The darkness this desert has
Brought into my heart
And the damage my lungs have
Sustained as they drown in my
Quiet tears

In this moment, I unleashed
An ugly, primal scream
From the depths of my marred soul,
The waves traveling through miles of
Nothingness

It was then when I realized
I still love the city.
But the city doesn’t love me.

Emily Brontë

A Little While, a Little While

A LITTLE while, a little while,
The weary task is put away,
And I can sing and I can smile,
Alike, while I have holiday.

Where wilt thou go, my harassed heart—
What thought, what scene invites thee now
What spot, or near or far apart,
Has rest for thee, my weary brow?

There is a spot, 'mid barren hills,
Where winter howls, and driving rain;
But, if the dreary tempest chills,
There is a light that warms again.

The house is old, the trees are bare,
Moonless above bends twilight's dome;
But what on earth is half so dear—
So longed for—as the hearth of home?

The mute bird sitting on the stone,
The dank moss dripping from the wall,
The thorn-trees gaunt, the walks o'ergrown,
I love them—how I love them all!

Still, as I mused, the naked room,
The alien firelight died away;
And from the midst of cheerless gloom,
I passed to bright, unclouded day.

A little and a lone green lane
That opened on a common wide;
A distant, dreamy, dim blue chain
Of mountains circling every side.

A heaven so clear, an earth so calm,
So sweet, so soft, so hushed an air;
And, deepening still the dream-like charm,
Wild moor-sheep feeding everywhere.

That was the scene, I knew it well;
I knew the turfy pathway's sweep,
That, winding o'er each billowy swell,
Marked out the tracks of wandering sheep.

Could I have lingered but an hour,
It well had paid a week of toil;
But Truth has banished Fancy's power:
Restraint and heavy task recoil.

Even as I stood with raptured eye,
Absorbed in bliss so deep and dear,
My hour of rest had fleeted by,
And back came labour, bondage, care.

A little while, a little while,

A little while, a little while,
The noisy crowd are barred away;
And I can sing and I can smile
A little while I've holyday !

Where wilt thou go my harassed heart ?
Full many a land invites thee now;
And places near, and far apart
Have rest for thee, my weary brow -

There is a spot 'mid barren hills
Where winter howls and driving rain
But if the dreary tempest chills
There is a light that warms again

The house is old, the trees are bare
And moonless bends the misty dome
But what on earth is half so dear -
So longed for as the hearth of home ?

The mute bird sitting on the stone,
The dank moss dripping from the wall,
The garden-walk with weeds o'ergrown
I love them - how I love them all !

Shall I go there? or shall I seek
Another clime, another sky,
Where tongues familiar music speak
In accents dear to memory ?

Yes, as I mused, the naked room,
The flickering firelight died away
And from the midst of cheerless gloom
I passed to bright unclouded day -

A little and a lone green lane
That opened on a common wide
A distant, dreamy, dim blue chain
Of mountains circling every side -

A heaven so clear, an earth so calm,
So sweet, so soft, so hushed in air
And, deepening still the dreamlike charm,
Wild moor-sheep feeding everywhere -

That was the scene - I knew it well
I knew the pathways far and near
That winding o'er each billowy swell
Marked out the tracks of wandering deer

Could I have lingered but an hour
It well had paid a week of toil
But truth has banished fancy's power
I hear my dungeon bars recoil -

Even as I stood with raptured eye
Absorbed in bliss so deep and dear
My hour of rest had fleeted by
And given me back to weary care -

Just A Little While

Baby, I like it when it feels this good
You always seem to make me smile
Can't nobody do what you do
When you love me just a little while
I, I know you got somewhere to go
And I got somewhere to be right now
I'll make 'em wait all day long
If you wanna get a little wild
I don't want to be a distraction to you
No no no
So maybe I'll just lay around
Play by myself
While touching on my favorite fruit
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Can't stop thinking bout the things we do
And how it feels making love to you
I'm ready to get it baby
If you got it to dish out
Just love me for a little while
I wanna make it like a dream for you
Turn every fantasy into the truth
You know I'll take it anywhere
That you wanna go right now
Just to love ya for a little while
I, I like sleeping in your clothes
To smell you makes it all come down
When I think about me and you
Sometimes I get a little loud
Baby, I know we did it all night long
And I didn't wanna burn you out
ause you know how much I like to do it
In the morning it's another round
I don't know if you have other things to do
No no no
So maybe I'll just lay around
Play by myself
While touching on my favorite fruit
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Can't stop thinking bout the things we do
And how it feels making love to you
I'm ready to get it baby
If you got it to dish out
Just love me for a little while
I wanna make it like a dream for you
And turn every fantasy into the truth
You know I'll take it anywhere
That you wanna go right now
Just love ya for a little while
My passion flows like a river that has no end
I wanna know everything you'll let me do to you
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Tell me what you like baby
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Do you wanna play with my strawberries
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Sometimes I think about me and you
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
I can get real loud (Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Can't stop thinking bout the things we do
And how it feels making love to you
I'm ready to get it baby
If you got it do it then shout
Just love me for a little while
I wanna make it like a dream for you
Turn every fantasy into the truth
You know I'll take it anywhere
That you wanna go right now
Just to love ya for a little while
Just love me for a little while

Love Affair

Here in the moment I belong
In a waking dream
The night is young
But isn't long
If you know what I mean
Oh it's beautiful
The thought of what might be
Close your eyes so you can see

I am only here for a little while
Would you like to take me out tonight
Maybe we could talk for a little while

When happiness pounces upon me

When happiness pounces upon me
hitting her nails into me
as if she can only stay
for a little while
and when her passion is gone
almost immediately she leaves

but misfortune stays with me
and I wrestle while she wants to suffocate me
to come out of her pinching claws
and wonder why this fat old lady
constantly is busy with me
as if she wants to sit me flat into the earth.

While the Planet Whirled

The sun rose for you today.
The rain rained for you today.
The sun shined for you today.
The birds chirped for you today.
The frogs croaked for you today.
The dogs barked for you today.
The cats meowed for you today.
The wind blew for you today.
The sunset for you today.
The moon shined for you today.
While the planet whirled on for you today.

A Dirge of the Morning After

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE (wailing dismally):
'Who can deliver us, Lord of our destiny!
Out of the depths comes our passionate cry,
Wrung from the soul of us. Aid for the whole of us!
Tell us, we pray, that our succor is nigh.

'Where is the super-man? Where the deliverer?
Where is the Captain to win us relief
Surcease from sorrowing, respite from borrowing?
Oh, for a philtre to deaden our grief!'

ANXIOUS VOICE FROM RIGHT WING:
'Patience, 0 populace! Wait for a little while!
Labor shall succor you - cleave to your Jim!
James and the rest of them, sure, are the best of them
Jimmy, the agable, trust ye to him!

'Lo, from the Chosen lures he the capital.
Bright golden, capital! Glorious loans!
Millions and mill-i-ons! Soon 'twill be bill-i-ons!
Patience awhile till he floats 'em.' (Loud groans.)

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE (irritably):
'Jim? Oh, be d-d to him. Doors are all slammed to him
Cohen's and Isaac's and old Ikey Mo's.
We would live decently! Up the spout recently
He has shoved everything barring our clothes.

(Again dolefully)
'Who can deliver us? Is there no saviour?
Is there no Chief with a Will and a Plan?
Not in a city-full? Oh, it is pitiful!
The hour it is striking - but where is the man?'

VOICE FROM LEFT WING (eagerly)
'Cheer up, my countrymen! Here is your Gregory!
Long he!s been shut from the councils of State.
He'll banish care for you; he'll do and dare for you.
Wade is the captain to fashion your fate.

'Long was he languishing, sunk in obscurity;
Now his wise counsel the populace seeks.
He is the man for you; he'll plot and plan for you.
Rest on his Liberal bosom.' (Wild shrieks.)

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE (petulantly)
'Out on your Gregory! Visions of beggary
Haunt us whenever we bear of his name.
Labor or Liberal, Jimmy or Gregory.
Wade or McGowen, they're both much the same.

(With increasing anguish):
'Who can deliver us? Who is to win for us
Money at four per cent., five per cent., ten?
In what futurity, out of obscurity,
Shall there arise this great leader of men?'

GREASY VOICE FROM THE FLIES:
'Sufferin' Solomon! Vot is dis howl aboudt?
Hary to yer Uncle, he'll tole yer vot's right;
Not more at four per shent. - no, nor at more per shent
Can you get capital! Monish is tight.

'Listen, goot beobles, your beano is finished mit;
Und obligations you neffer can shirk.
Monish vos tight, my tears; dot vos all right, my tears.
Loans vas maturin'. You'll haf to get vork.'

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE (howling):
'Work? O preposterous! What are we coming to?
Is there no super-man armed with a scheme
Scheme to win capital? Is there no chap at all
Willing to plan for us? Work! Do we dream?

(Desperately):
'Who can deliver us? Who can win ease for us?
Rescue us out of this ocean of debt?
We've come to wreck in it; up to the neck in it
Won't someone help us get out of the wet?'

(With gloomy reiteration):
'Who can deliver us? Who can deliver us?
Are none to pit such desperate elves?
Here or in other State? Oh, the poor Mother State!'....
CHORUS FROM THE GALLERY (in disgust):
'Aw, turn it up, an' deliver yerselves.'
