You Must Believe Me

(mayfield)
You must believe me
No matter what the people might say
You must believe me
Darling it just didnt happen that way
No, no it just didnt happen that way
You come home
With something on your mind
Tell me darling
Why are you crying
I said be serious
No time for fun
Youre tryin to tell me
Something that Ive done
The things you heard
Couldnt be denied
But before your opinion
Listen to my side
You must believe me
No matter what the people might say
You must believe me
Darling it just didnt happen that way
No, no it just didnt happen that way
Break
Oh oh
Oh oh
You come home
With something on your mind
Tell me darling
Why are you crying
I said be serious
No time for fun
Youre tryin to tell me
Something that Ive done
The things you heard
Couldnt be denied
But before your opinion
Listen to my side
You must believe me
No matter what the people might say
You must believe me
You must believe me
You must believe me

You Gotta Believe

You must believe,
You must believe
(x2)
You gotta believe
Gotta believe, gotta believe in me
You gotta believe in me
(gotta believe me)
That I wont never hurt you

I told you once before
That I love you
And I need you
But let me tell you once again
You were my closest friend
Ill never leave you
So hold me tight
All through the night
Caress me with your tender care
Anytime or anywhere

Anytime, anywhere
I will go with you anywhere
(please wont you trust me babe)
Wont you trust in me baby
Stay with me (stay, death do us part)
Till death do us part
Youll always be right in my heart
Wont you please stay with me
Baby please believe in me (please believe in me)
(x2)

Mary, mary, I hear you loud and clear
Why dont you believe in me
Tell me why you dont see
That you can put your trust in me
And let me lead the way
Please baby take my hand
I dont need another man
But if you wanna hold on tight
You cannot be afraid
(x2)

Take me boy by the hand (take me)
Let me make you understand
(make you understand)
That I can never let you down
Baby just believe in me
Take me boy by the hand (take me)
Let me make you understand
(make you understand)
That I can never let you down
Baby just believe in me
Please believe
(repeat until end)

Would you ever believe

WOULD YOU EVER believe if I called a nondescript table of teakwood; as a vivacious bird soaring high in the sky,

Would you ever believe if I called a ruffled sheet of paper; as a chunk of glittering gold,

Would you ever believe if I called a grandiloquent watch embodied with diamonds; as a lump of bedraggled stone,

Would you ever believe if I called a mountain of compacted mud; as a switchboard of pugnacious electricity,

Would you ever believe if I called a resplendent rainbow in the sky; as a broomstick with incongruous bristles,

Would you ever believe if I called a rusty canister of dilapidated iron; as a mesmerizing rose growing in the garden,

Would you ever believe if I called a pink tablet of luxury soap; as a mosquito hovering acrimoniously in the cloistered room,

Would you ever believe if I called a boat rollicking merrily on the undulating waves; as a rustic jungle spider,

Would you ever believe if I called a valley profusely embedded with snow; as an unscrupulous dog on the street,

Would you ever believe if I called a pair of luscious lips; as a disdainfully fetid shoe,

Would you ever believe if I called a fluorescent rod of light; as a jagged bush of cactus growing in the sweltering desert,

Would you ever believe if I called the blazing sun; as a pudgy bar of delectable chocolate,
Would you ever believe if I called an angular sculptured bone; as acid bubbling in a swanky bottle,

Would you ever believe if I called a scintillating oyster; as an inarticulate matchstick coated with lead,

Would you ever believe if I called a cluster of bells jingling from the ceiling; as a sordid cockroach philandering beside the lavatory seat,

Would you ever believe if I called a fruit of succulent coconut; as a dead mans morbid tooth,

Would you ever believe If I called a steaming cup of filter coffee; as gaudily colored water emanating from the street fountains,

Would you ever believe if I called the majestic statue of a revered historian; as a slab of tangy peanut butter,

Would you ever believe if I called a vibrant shirt; as a protuberant pigeon discerningly pecking its beak at grains scattered on the floor,

Would you ever believe if I called a flocculent bud of cotton; as a camouflaged lizard transgressing through wild projections of grass,

Would you ever believe if I called a photograph depicting the steep gorges; as a gutter inundated with obnoxious sewage,

Would you ever believe if I called a lanky giraffe; as a convict nefariously lurking through solitary streets of the city,

Would you ever believe if I called a pair of flamboyant sunglasses; as a weird tattoo to be adhered to the chest,

Would you ever believe if I called a chicken’s egg; as logs of sooty charcoal abundantly stashed in the colossal warehouse,

Would you ever believe if I called a biscuit replete with golden honey; as a ominously slithering reptile in the jungles,

Would you ever believe if I called a bald man possessing a profoundly tonsured scalp; as a gas balloon floating in insipid air,

Would you ever believe if I called a ring embellished with crystal diamonds; as an inconspicuous and distorted metallic pin,

Would you ever believe if I called a crimson crested parrot; as a tray containing frozen ice,

Would you ever believe if I called a glass made of pallid plastic; as a gargantuan well flooded with water and dead frogs,

Would you ever believe if I called wooden beams dangling from the ceiling; as finely squelched juice of red radish,

Would you ever believe if I called an articulately painted canvas; as slime coated fossil lying in close proximity with the seabed,

Would you ever believe if I called a diminutive tadpole; as a fortified wall commensurately aligned with burnt bricks,

Would you ever believe if I called a mammoth elephant; as rotten pulp of mango being tossed indiscriminately on the street,

Would you ever believe if I called a truck inundated with cumbersome machines; as an aromatic seed of plant,

Would you ever believe if I called a sheet of crisp paper; as a rubicund fruit of juicy plum,

Would you ever believe if I called a trouser of jaded jeans; as a greeting card fudged with scores of ostentatious lines,
Would you ever believe if I called a ravishing pair of eyelashes; as a disheveled pantry inhabited with clusters of stray mice,

Would you ever believe if I called a dazzling yellow helmet; as a preposterously huge whale of the ocean,

Would you ever believe if I called a piquant stick of chili; as an animated butterfly fluttering at low heights from the ground,

Would you ever believe if I called a hideously black rope; as a mushroom sizzling in the blistering oven,

Would you ever believe if I called a magazine of lead bullets; as an avalanche of snow plummeting down the mountain at turbulent speeds,

Would you ever believe if I called an incredibly cool air-conditioner; as a curry of decayed cream lying obsolete in the garbage heap,

Would you ever believe if I called a scintillating tooth; as a big toe of a striped panther,

Would you ever believe if I called a jazzy strip of belt; as a corrugated assemblage of tree roots,

Would you ever believe if I called a slate of pure chalk; as a tier floating harmlessly in water,

Would you ever believe if I called a chain with infinite loops; as a graveyard sprawled with morbid coffins,

Would you ever believe if I called a pot bellied tortoise; as a languid peel of paint hanging lackadaisically from the nondescript wall,

Would you ever believe if I called a shimmering coin of currency; as a zany zebra galloping at whirlwind speeds through the desert,

Would you ever believe if I called a bottle of inebriating rum; as a frigid contact lens agglutinated to the eye,

Would you ever believe if I called sacrosanct religion; as licentious profanity,

Would you ever believe if I called candid truth; as a profoundly blatant lie,

Would you ever believe if I called the omniscient personality of god; as a perniciously diabolical devil,

And would you ever believe if I called True Love; as a spurious product of imagination; a frivolous case of casual infatuation

In spite of what life brings to me

God, in spite of what life brings to me,
in spite of how much money I earn, of what work I do,
in which residential aria I live, what car I drive
and if I have to walk or drive by motorbike
on the road that I travel, it is still at Your door
that I stand each day.
In spite of the words that I do write,
how bad or great they may be,
it makes me nothing else
than the human being that gets all things from you
and still I am bounded to You
for my light in this life's darkness.

You Must Make Me

You must make me remember our younger days
when love had filled our desire.
You must not allow me to forget these times,
never let them expire.

For though we aged my heart beats wildly
and is filled with thoughts of you.
And I do not want them to quiet down
or disappear from my view.

You must find a way to keep at bay
the ever present fear
that surfaces in the ageing process
with each approaching year.

For though we cannot bring youth back,
we cannot let it die.
You must make me remember how we were.
You must content me with a sigh.

One Among So Many

. . . In a dark street she met and spoke to me,
Importuning, one wet and mild March night.
We walked and talked together. O her tale
Was very common; thousands know it all!
'Seduced'; a gentleman; a baby coming;
Parents that railed; London; the child born dead;
A seamstress then, one of some fifty girls
'Taken on' a few months at a dressmaker's
In the crush of the 'season' at ten shillings a week!
The fashionable people's dresses done,
And they flown off, these fifty extra girls
Sent — to the streets: that is, to work that gives
Scarcely enough to buy the decent clothes
Respectable employers all demand
Or speak dismissal. Well, well, well, we know!
And she — 'Why, I have gone on down and down,
And there's the gutter, look, that I shall die in!'
'My dear,' I say, 'where hope of all but that
Is gone, 'tis time, I think, life were gone too.'
She looks at me. 'That I should kill myself?'
'That you should kill yourself.' — 'That would be sin,
And God would punish me!' — 'And will not God
Punish for this?' She pauses; then whispers:
'No, no, He will forgive me, for He knows!'
I laughed aloud: 'And you,' she said, 'and you,
Who are so good, so noble' . . . 'Noble? Good?'
I laughed aloud, the great sob in my throat.
O my poor Darling, O my little lost Sheep
Of this vast flock that perishes alone
Out in the pitiless desert! — Yet she'd speak:
She'd ask me: she'd entreat: she'd demonstrate.
O I must not say that! I must believe!
Who made the sea, the leaves so green, the sky
So big and blue and pure above it all?
O my poor Darling, O my little lost Sheep,
Entreat no more and demonstrate no more;
For I believe there is a God, a God
Not in the heaven, the earth, or the waters; no,
But in the heart of Man, on the dear lips
Of angel Women, of heroic Men!
O hopeless Wanderer that would not stay,
('It is too late, I cannot rise again!')
O Saint of faith in love behind the veils,
('You must believe in God, for you are good!')
O Sister who made holy with your kiss,
Your kiss in that wet dark mild night of March,
There in the hideous infamous London streets,
My cheek, and made my soul a sacred place,
my poor Darling, O my little lost Sheep!

Mad You Must Be And Delight In It

Mad you must be and delight in it
like mating killdeer in the spring,
lyrical love-making in the epiphanous air
and one flys into the bumper and dies.
Tears flowing down your cheeks
as you drive on into the incomprehensible
horror and silence of the act. And later,
your girlfriend will elaborate the fact
into a beautiful piece of art. Radiance
thrusts a shard of glass through your heart
out of the blue and there you are
with a baffled pain in your eyes
crying on the easel in paint. Poor man.

Mad you must be and delight in it.
Revel in the absurd. Logic, the shakey stool
of a man trying to hang himself.
Quicksand cornerstones sinking into a miasma
of conditioned chaos. What does it prove
that would have made a difference to the outcome?
Nothing to stand on anymore. Even less
to lie down for. Nature a postcard.
A recurring calendar. And one of those months,
a close-up of a killdeer in intimate detail.

Mad you must be and delight in it.
Uproot your hidden harmonies. Give up
your golden chains. Throw the swill
out of your fountains like wine
from the night before. Ignore your dreams
as the phantasmagoria of sacred clowns.
Everything passes in a riot of stars
before you're aware of it. Where are they now?
The aerial ballet of the killdeer. Roadkill.
Random encounters with the irrational.
The clarity cruel. The darkness immense.

Mad you must be and delight in it.
Stare at the wall until something appears.
An orphan of mirrors. An estranged elopement
trying to get away with it all. Throw
the moon down from the tower first
and after it your skull. The hearse awaits
and the horses are plumed with black feathers.
Space is warped. Time's corrupt. And the light
isn't on some kind of goodwill tour.
Over the newly ploughed field,
where are the killdeer that were there
a moment ago, a year, forever, a figment of time?
So beautiful in the way they impressed each other.
First warm day of the spring. Even the silence
overjoyed with the liberation of water
of earth, of sky, as the stitches came out of the wound
and winter, the scar of a worn out topic.
One of those moments it was intense bliss
to be alive on earth, unasked for,
and delightfully irrelevant the reason.

Mad you must be and delight in it
to embrace the crazy wisdom of the incomprehensible
as a spontaneous medium you're not involved in
except as the one who suffers what you see,
the terror and the lucidity, the rapture, the monotony
and the worst you could imagine it could be,
the abyss, the car, the killdeer, the unreality
of there being no amends for the tragedy
to fall back upon, not even the pity of the poetry
or the beauty of the painting. And the tears?
What of the tears? What are we to make of them?
Water off the wings of the killdeers? Time
just another water clock that heals nothing
it wounds by accident? Annihilations
of the spirit encountering anti-matter?
You can entertain yourself as delusionally sane
by explaining the stars to the stars,
or you can spend hours trying to decipher the scars
like glyphs on the stone calendars that knew
timing revealed the content in the blink of an eye
and in the cherry-sized heart of a bird
smashed against the sun and the sky
flashing off a chrome bumper at 80k,
who knows, a moment before impact,
if it felt it had desecrated the absurdity of the event
by dying inchoately innocent of its own bewilderment.

All In The Mind

It is true
You must believe me
That everything is all in the mind

Whether something is hot or cold
It all depends on the mind
Of the skin on our forehead

You tried to hold my hand
I set it away

Now you must believe me
It is all in the mind

Whether I love you
Or I don’t

It all depends on what you believe
It is all in your mind

You are taking me
Without any question

You refuse to believe
What my hands are saying

When I say that I love you, you ask me what I want
When I try to care for you woh-o hoa, you say I'm tryin' to front
When I'm tryin' to listen to you oh ho baby, you take it as a joke
And when I try to give you good advice yeah yeah, you swear that I don't know

August 8th

Listen here. I've never played it safe
in spite of what the critics say.
Ask my imaginary brother, that waif,
that childhood best friend who comes to play
dress-up and stick-up and jacks and Pick-Up-Sticks,
bike downtown, stick out tongues at the Catholics.

Or form a Piss Club where we all go
in the bushes and peek at each other's sex.
Pop-gunning the street lights like crows.
Not knowing what to do with funny Kotex
so wearing it in our school shoes. Friend, friend,
spooking my lonely hours you were there, but pretend.

Kittens Got Claws

(coverdale/vandenberg)
Walking down the street
Youre the center of my universe
You got the world in your pocket,
My manhood in your purse
You aint a bad girl, honey,
No matter what the neighbours say,
Its just that you were those skin-tight dresses
With your g-string tuned to a
Sweet, sweet, child of the street
Heaven sent, youre an angel dressed in black,
Cool, stiletto strut, youre a drop jaw cardiac
Youre the genuine, feline, prettiest girl Ive ever seen,
With your thief of hearts smile
Youre a certified pleasure machine
Sweet, sweet, child of the street
Dressed to kill in diamonds and fur,
You get what you want
With your pussy cat purr
But, the kittens got claws,
Shell tear your heart out
The kittens got claws,
Shell scratch your back
The kittens got claws
Shell tease an please you
The kittens got claws,
Shes a heart attack
You treat me good,
Sometimes you treat me bad,
But, keep it up, honey,
Youre the best time Ive ever had
No matter what you put me through I must confess,
Oh, you got more style than a brand new xjs
Sweet, sweet, child of the street
Dressed to kill in diamonds and fur,
You get what you want
With your pussy cat purr
But, the kittens got claws,
Shell tear your heart out
The kittens got claws,
Shell scratch your back
The kittens got claws,
Shell tease an please you
The kittens got claws,
Shes a heart attack...
Walking down the street
Youre the center of my universe
You got the world in your pocket,
My manhood in your purse
I know you aint a bad girl, honey,
No matter what the neighbours say,
Its just that you were those skin-tight dresses
With your g-string tuned to a
Sweet, sweet, child of the street
Dressed to kill in diamonds and fur,
You get what you want
With your pussy cat purr
But, the kittens got claws,
Shell tear your heart out
The kittens got claws,
Shell scratch your back
The kittens got claws,
Shell tease an please you
The kittens got claws,
Shell blow your stack
The kittens got claws,
Shell tear your heart out
The kittens got claws,
Shell scratch your back
The kittens got claws,
Shell tease an please you
The kittens got claws,
Shes a heart attack...
You scratch my back, baby,
An Ill scratch yours...

Waltz For Eva & Che

(che:)
Tell me before I waltz out of your life
Before turning my back on the past
Forgive my impertinent behavior
But how long do you think this pantomime can last?
Tell me before I ride off in the sunset
Theres one thing I never got clear
How can you claim youre our savior
When those who oppose you are stepped on,
Or cut up, or simply disappear?
(eva:)
Tell me before you get onto your bus
Before joining the forgotten brigade
How can one person like me, say,
Alter the time-honored way the game is played?
Tell me before you get onto your high horse
Just what you expect me to do
I dont care what the bourgeoisie say
Im not in business for them
But to give all my descamisados
A magical moment or two
(che and eva:)
There is evil, ever around
Fundamental system of government
Quite incidental
(eva:)
So what are my chances of honest advances?
Id say low
Better to win by admitting my sin
Than to lose with a halo
(che:)
Tell me before I seek worthier pastures
And thereby restore self-esteem
How can you be so short-sighted
To look never further than this week or next week
To have no impossible dream?
(eva:)
Allow me to help you slink off to the sidelines
And mark your adieu with three cheers
But first tell me whod be delighted
If I said Id take on the worlds greatest problems
From war to pollution, no hope of solution
Even if I lived for one hundred years
(che and eva:)
There is evil, ever around
Fundamental system of government
Quite incidental
(eva:)
So go, if youre able, to somewhere unstable
And stay there
Whip up your hate in some tottering state
But not here, dear
Is that clear, dear?
Oh what Id give for a hundred years
But the physical interferes
Every day more, o my creator
What is the good of the strongest heart
In a body thats falling apart?
A serious flaw, I hope you know that

Never Give Up. Believe In Yourself. You Must!

'Why should I show concern to someone,
Who has not expressed that to me? '

This unheard but seen in the faces of children.
Those who are fathered.
But orphaned by those mothers-to-be.

'Why should I keep my faith filled with hope?
When that patience I never witnessed,
Being reflected to center upon me to feel and see.'

And I want to sympathize with those lonely.
I do.
I want to show those alone,
My empathy delivered as proof.
I do!

I would do this if asked to choose.
But...
Overwhelmed I am by so many in need.
No power to correct this do I have within me.

Although I whisper in the ears of those near who can hear...
Never give up.
Believe...
In yourself.
You must!

Never give up.
Believe...
In yourself.
You must!

Never give up.
Believe...
In yourself.
You must!
Never give up.

Believe In God

Believe in God! In His might!
Ram, Allah or Jesus Christ!
As you like; as you trust!

When relatives desert
When friends forget
Still you have on your side
The Omnipotent
To listen to your plight
You yourself will see
His charity melt
Ablating your painful ailment
And filling your heart
With divine fulfillment

If You Must Run, Run To Him

If you must run, run to Him
With loving arms He will take you
Give light to your life that's so dim
He is the God Whose Word is true.

For we are all sons prodigal
Lost stubborn sheep a-wandering
But He promises us life eternal
His Grace alone is what we're missing.

If you should cry, cry to Him
He knows your heart and all its pains
He will fill it up to the brim
With Peace and Joy for you to gain.

If you are lost, be found by Him
He'll cure your pride and all your blindness
His Presence then will dwell within
For He alone is perfect happiness.

We Believe In God

We believe in God
And we all need Jesus
'Cause life is hard
And it might not get easier
But don't be afraid
To know who you are
Don't be afraid to show it
If you believe in God
If you say you need Jesus
He'll be where you are
And he never will leave you
Sing to me now words that are true
So all in this place can know it...
We believe in God
And we all need Jesus
We believe in God
And we all need Jesus
We believe in God
And we all need Jesus
Sing to me now words that are true
So all in this place can know it...
We believe in God
And we all need Jesus
We believe in God
And we all need Jesus
We believe in God

You Must Be A Lame

women you act high class,
richer then a speed past,
can't even say hey,
when you past by,
now you look like,
a stuck up fool,
look what school taught you,
to act like you better girl,
with all your cheddar girl,
I'm here to tell you,
go get a life,
you got on my bad side,
with all that high class,
think you better then,
everybody else crap,
girl you need some,
new lessons stop protesting,
you call us men lames,
because how we do to you,
look at how you act,
women you so high class,
that you think you have,
more empowerment then god,
that's your butt,
because it will be grass,
so I guess,
you must be a lame,
as you call me lame.
