Sonnets 09: Let You Not Say Of Me When I Am Old

Let you not say of me when I am old,
In pretty worship of my withered hands
Forgetting who I am, and how the sands
Of such a life as mine run red and gold
Even to the ultimate sifting dust, "Behold,
Here walketh passionless age!"—for there expands
A curious superstition in these lands,
And by its leave some weightless tales are told.

In me no lenten wicks watch out the night;
I am the booth where Folly holds her fair;
Impious no less in ruin than in strength,
When I lie crumbled to the earth at length,
Let you not say, "Upon this reverend site
The righteous groaned and beat their breasts in prayer."

Let us not mind the happiness...

Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that come our way,
For they are inseparable from our life.
None can evade them, for Lord Raghunath himself has inlaid them!
Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that come our way!

Even an upright man like King Nala, whose wife was Queen Damayanti,
Had to roam half-naked in the forest without food or water.
Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that come our way!

Even the mighty brothers like the Pandavas,
Who had Queen Draupadi for a wife,
Underwent hardships for twelve long and exacting years in the forest Without even proper sleep.
Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that come our way!

Even a woman as chaste as Sita,
Whose husband was none other than the Lord,
Was abducted by Ravana and subjected to suffer terrible misery,
Let us not mind the happiness or the grief that come our way!

Even the King as powerful as Ravana, who had Mandodari as queen,
Had all his ten heads severed and his great Lanka ravaged!
Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that come our way!

Even a person so righteous as Harishchandra,
Who had Taralochana as his queen,
Had to bear immense agony and serve in a menial caste!
Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that come our way!

Even an ascetic as great as Shiva, who had Parvati for his wife,
Was deceived by a bhil woman and had his austerities disturbed
!Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that comes our way!

When all the gods are in distress,
They remember antaryami, the lord of their hearts,
And indeed are rescued by the Sarangdhar, the bearer of the mighty Saranga bow, the Narsaiyya's Lord!
Let us not mind the happiness and the grief that come our way!

Do Not Be Deceived

Know my friend that that woman knows how to make stories
they sound so true & real
they come to you
You think it is all about me

Do not be deceived

These lies are made
For some benefit

Now you shall think genuine thoughts
be authentic

And not so trusting
be city-like in your dispositions

Towering and strong
Like a skyscraper.

believing no taxis below taking them lightly as running toys

There Are Times When The Sun Does Not Shine

who argues
about the rainy days
when the sun
does not shine
like a child hiding
on the skirt
of her mother

who disputes
lean times
and hungry days
when we simply
bite our tongue
swallow our saliva
and say we
just had lunch

when this happens
we can do nothing
we let all these times
come and then wait
when they finally leave

for like the sun that
does not shine today
tomorrow it may come
and shine again so brightly!

My valentine you are today

My valentine you are today
This fact I can't deny
A valentine I've never had
I sit and ponder why

I thank you from my heart so true
That I will be the one
To make you happy all day long
Until my time is done

I'll hurt you not and never lie
I'll make you proud to be
A woman who is worth her love
I'm glad that it is me

So valentine I love so much
I hope your days been great
Remember you are in my thoughts
For you I'll always wait

Let Me Not Know

[The ode to all my crushes past]

If it were so let me not know
That never did you want me

I'll skip the woe at the chapter's close
And will not let it haunt me

Hold back your words if they are swords
To cut the heart out of me

It may seem absurd that you are lord
Of this but do not doubt me

I'll be content and won't resent
The feelings that wan for me

But don't repent the looks you sent
That told me you adored me

Just walk on past and do not cast
Them anymore towards me

They now won't last but fade on fast
Unless you say you love me

Let's Not Confuse This!

When I am near and kiss you...
There is nothing in between us,
I choose to acknowledge that exists.

Past relationships,
Or the sound of a ticking done made by a clock...
Can not stop the flow of my emotions,
Felt and held for you.

I am focused with clarity!
And I am hoping you are too.
Unless we are both two fools,
Misunderstanding this moment.

My heart says 'no'.
Allowing me...
To just let go!
And when I am with you...
That is exactly what we do.

Let's not confuse this!
Or what it is...
For something that it isn't.

It is what it is...
Or you and I would not be here,
To experience it at all.

Children are today.

Children are today, Too outspoken for their age,

Some of their attitude stinks, and they have too much rage;

When we as adults grew up years ago, learnt to behave,

We respected the older folk, and no drugs did we crave.

Some children today, through abuse, and neglect,

Are hurting inside them, what they need is hard to detect;

They need guidance, love, understanding and care,

They need to be shown that someone will be there.

Children today, are expected to grow up too quick,

Taught to much, far too early, so wrong things they'll pick;

And as they grow, let them grow slowly at their own pace,

Let them be children while they can, and give them space.

Let Us Not Jump To Conclusions

Were their actions inspired and motivated,
By racial hate?

'Well...
Let us not jump to conclusions.
Since we are currently conducting,
A thorough and complete investigation.'

How many thorough and complete investigations...
Thus far,
Have been conducted and do you anticipate?

'That is difficult to determine.
You see...
The marketing of crime,
And the perpetuating of bigotry...
Has continued to be extremely beneficial and lucrative,
In communities worldwide.

However,
Let us all agree right now...
In 'this' particular community,
There will be no tolerance of hatred shown...
Of any kind.

'Will that mean the ending to building,
Of prisons and jails...
As well as rehabiliation centers,
Currently on the drawing boards...
Must cease to be a reality as is planned? '

Let's not get too hasty with decisions we must face.
There is a need for more jobs to feed and hire professionals.
Unless we all use our minds to become innovative,
Our abilities to create employment for those we deem qualified...
Most certainly will drive our efforts and ambitions into wasted pits.

'That will also mean an upheaval...
Of the death, war and taxation way of life,
All of us have grown accustomed!
And none of us are willing to sacrifice.
To implement the unknown.'

Correct!
And that is our biggest challenge.
However...
And it has been stated,
Let us not just yet...
Jeopardize our greatness,
By jumping to conclusions.

Let's demonstrate we are civilized in the real sense

The tilling of land
The finding of the use of fire
The discovery of wheel
The advent of metal usage
Marked the way for
Civilization
And we have been
Civilizing ourselves
Since then
Our ways of living improved
Generations after generations
Our comfort level kept increasing
We are at such a peak
That a peak further ahead
Looks impossible
But we are yet to be
Civilized in the real sense
As we have no regard
For the resources we use up
And consume so much
That many of us run short
And we have no clue as to
Whether our future generations
Will have at least a taste of
What all we have consumed
And we say we are developing
Each second
We are termed more and more developed
The more we devour the resources
Minding not whether something left
For others, leave alone for generations ahead

God said
Be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth
He, probably, meant
Stay in comfort
Generate fruits, grains, vegetables and other edibles
Eat well
Ensure the continuity of the human race
By multiplying in number
And make sure
To replenish the earth
For its continued and uninterrupted support

We are fruitful
We grow grains
Develop farms
We are multiplying ourselves
Some of us in dangerous proportions
But
Are we replenishing the earth
No way
We are not sending back anything to the earth
With which she can support living blocks
What we send back to the earth
All rubbish
And some of them
Even remain a challenge
For the earth to digest and assimilate
Some of them are threatening
Life support systems
Which, the earth developed
Over millions of years

Let us examine the way we live
Let us check the wastes we generate
Let us demonstrate
We are civilized in the real sense
With a farsightedness that will
Help future generations
Enjoy living the same way we do.
If not better

Khalil Gibran

Pleasure XXIV

Then a hermit, who visited the city once a year, came forth and said, "Speak to us of Pleasure."

And he answered, saying:

Pleasure is a freedom song,

But it is not freedom.

It is the blossoming of your desires,

But it is not their fruit.

It is a depth calling unto a height,

But it is not the deep nor the high.

It is the caged taking wing,

But it is not space encompassed.

Ay, in very truth, pleasure is a freedom-song.

And I fain would have you sing it with fullness of heart; yet I would not have you lose your hearts in the singing.

Some of your youth seek pleasure as if it were all, and they are judged and rebuked.

I would not judge nor rebuke them. I would have them seek.

For they shall find pleasure, but not her alone:

Seven are her sisters, and the least of them is more beautiful than pleasure.

Have you not heard of the man who was digging in the earth for roots and found a treasure?

And some of your elders remember pleasures with regret like wrongs committed in drunkenness.

But regret is the beclouding of the mind and not its chastisement.

They should remember their pleasures with gratitude, as they would the harvest of a summer.

Yet if it comforts them to regret, let them be comforted.

And there are among you those who are neither young to seek nor old to remember;

And in their fear of seeking and remembering they shun all pleasures, lest they neglect the spirit or offend against it.

But even in their foregoing is their pleasure.

And thus they too find a treasure though they dig for roots with quivering hands.

But tell me, who is he that can offend the spirit?

Shall the nightingale offend the stillness of the night, or the firefly the stars?

And shall your flame or your smoke burden the wind?

Think you the spirit is a still pool which you can trouble with a staff?

Oftentimes in denying yourself pleasure you do but store the desire in the recesses of your being.

Who knows but that which seems omitted today, waits for tomorrow?

Even your body knows its heritage and its rightful need and will not be deceived.

And your body is the harp of your soul,

And it is yours to bring forth sweet music from it or confused sounds.

And now you ask in your heart, "How shall we distinguish that which is good in pleasure from that which is not good?"

Go to your fields and your gardens, and you shall learn that it is the pleasure of the bee to gather honey of the flower,

But it is also the pleasure of the flower to yield its honey to the bee.

For to the bee a flower is a fountain of life,

And to the flower a bee is a messenger of love,

And to both, bee and flower, the giving and the receiving of pleasure is a need and an ecstasy.

People of Orphalese, be in your pleasures like the flowers and the bees.

The Poem Today And The Poem Yesterday

THE POEM TODAY AND THE POEM YESTERDAY

The poem today and the poem yesterday,
And the poem of the day before,
And all the poems there are,
And all the poems that ever have been,
They do not say,
They cannot say-

What you say to me,
When you love me.

Let's Not Play The Game

[1] - So if this is you
Here's what you should do
Don't even come up
Don't even say stuff
You know it ain't true
Baby what's the use
Let's not play the game

She used to be the dreams I'd dreamed of
The air that I breathe
The words I speak of
But in reality the girl was out for gold

Why I Am So Happy Today/Because There Is No War

Why am I so happy today?
Because there is no war
And my son is alive
And so many other sons and fathers and husbands and brothers
Who might not have been alive
Are alive
Because the greater war that might have been
Did not happen
And so many who might have been injured or killed
Are alright
I am happy
Because we are alive-

Lord, Let Me Not Thy Courts Depart

Lord, let me not thy courts depart,
Nor quit thy mercy-seat,
Before I feel thee in my heart,
And there the Saviour meet.

Water the seed in weakness sown,
And ever more improve:
Make me a garden of thine own;
May ev'ry flow'r be love!

O send my soul in peace away;
For both my Lord hath bought:
And let my heart, exhulting, say,
I've found the pearl I sought!

Not Now, When Skies Are Gold And Blue

And you have me and I have you,
When there are roses all the way,
And April days and nights of May,
And life is joy the whole day long--
Not now can passion flower in song.

But in the dark days by-and-by,
When, deep divided, you and I,
Shivering among the rose-thorns bare,
At last confess what fools we were;
Then, neatly wired, a nosegay fine
Shall deck your heart--O heart of mine!

The Stars Do Not Know That They Are Stars

THE STARS DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY ARE STARS

The stars do not know that they are stars
They do not know how violent they are-
They do not know they inspire human dreams
They do not know that they are more distant than they seem-

The stars do not know that they are stars
They do not know we do not see them as they are-
They do not know that trillions of transformations from now
They will not even be gaseous clouds.

Do Not Tell Me You Are Psychic

Why...
Are you exposing your 'butt',
In public?

'Did or did you 'not' say,
You wanted to see another side of me? '

I was referring to your personality.

'And...
What are you saying?
You find this side of me offensive? '

No!
But I do find what you are doing 'indecent'.

'To who?
Or whom?
Only you are looking.
Make up your mind.
Do you like this side of me or not?
How do you expect us,
To get to know one another...
If you are already showing signs of being indecisive.'

I think you have issues.

'Do not tell me you are psychic.
I wouldn't have done that at all,
If I knew that.'

Today Is The Only Day

Cry not on flowers wilted,
Count not on buds that canker might blight,
But marvel over beauty blossomed!

Extinct are our Yesterdays,
Illusory are our Tomorrows,
Today is all that exists,
What there is and all there is.
Today is our way up hill
The arena for action decreed
The stage set for the show
The tool and trade for life.

Today well lived leaves -
Every Yesterday
A reminiscence - sweet to relish!
Every Tomorrow
A vision glorious to chase!

Drool not, hence, over yester years
Rant not on chances missed
Greet Today, right in front!
Render it your respiration and perspiration
Turning Yesterday - a commemoration
Tomorrow - a stimulation
And life - a celebration!
