Freezing Steel

Freezing steel
Ive flown the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel
And though my bodys back I know it cant be real
cause Ive been on that house without a guiding wheel
The house of freezing steel
Oh wheres it going, picked me up at seven
When my eyes were weak from the light of the morning
Oh sister wont you tell me what a man might want to know
This madness is fine, yes if youre mad at the time
Back on the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel
The tied my body up, Im forced to eat my meal
A cold plate of lamb and cold potatoes too
Now whats a soul to do
Oh lord above, brother wont you tell me
Is this a eucharistic dove
cause Ive been waiting for the right one to appear
But Ive seen it in your face, and baby this aint the place
Up on the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel.
I made my mind up then to get me to the wheel
I made the cabin door, the pilot turned around
He said were venus bound
Oh please take me home
After all Im only human and the earth is where I belong
I must have looked pitiful to this freak without a face
cause as he touched my head I saw myself back in bed
Ive flown the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel
And though my bodys back I know it cant be real
cause Ive been on that house without a guiding wheel
The house of freezing steel

Cold As Ice

I dont think you understand
Oh the rhythm of my heart
Theres a strong line to mind and soul
I feel it tearing apart
Ive been searching for new words
Gonna make you understand in a different way
When I told you Id hang on forever
I threw my choice away
And its cold as ice
I cant let go
Its cold as ice
Baby but I need your love
And I wish I could have been the first one
Oh to walk out the door
The more I find myself to blame
The less there is to come back for
You wish you could have been the last one
To tell me how you really feel
Cause when you closed the door oh deep inside
My heart it still seemed so sincere
And its cold as ice
I cant let go oh
Its cold as ice
Baby but I need your love
Its cold as ice
I cant let go
Its cold as ice
Baby but I need your love
If theres a message to this madness
Well it still seems quite unclear
If I really need to save myself
Why cant I just walk out of here
Theres a message in your eyes
And you make it perfectly plain
Either I leave your heart behind
Or crack beneath this freezing
Freezing freezing freezing rain
Cold as ice
(cold as ice)
I cant let go
(but I cant let go)
Cold as ice
Baby but i
But I need your love
All right
I said Im cold
Cold Im cold
(cold as ice)
Cold Im cold
(baby)

Map Of Your Head

I'm sick of feeling my soul
To people who'll never know
Just how purposeless and empty they've grown
Because the language confuses like computers refuse to understand how I'm
feeling today
I'm freezing and losing my way
I don't need another map of your head
I'm freezing and losing my way
I don't need another map of your head
I saw a liquid control
That gives life to a soul
I hit my head on it and woke up to know
That I was all alone
Wearing just socks and a phone
Someone is screaming like their world might explode
Yeah I'm freezing and losing my way
I don't need another map of your head
I'm freezing and losing my way
I don't want another map of your head
Freezing and losing my way
I don't want another map of your head
I'm freezing and losing my way
I don't need another map of your head

Snowman

(andy partridge)
It isnt even winter and Im freezing, freezing,
This sort of feeling isnt pleasing,
And what I want to know, man,
Why, oh why,
Does she treat me like a snowman?
Shes been building me,
Up quite steadily,
Seems like Ive been here years and years and years and years;
I wait patiently,
Froze in history,
All ice-water is tears and tears and tears and tears;
She treats me far too frosty,
This hanging on has cost me dear.
It isnt even winter and Im shivering, shivering,
Waiting for the love thats not delivering,
What I want to know, man,
Why oh why,
Does she treat me like a snowman?
It seems you would say I was too soft-hearted,
If you made a dunce-cap Id don it!
People will always be tempted to wipe their feet,
On anything with welcome written on it.
It isnt even winter and Im freezing, freezing,
And this sort of feeling isnt pleasing,
And what I want to know, man,
Why, oh why,
Does she treat me like a snowman?

When the Lavender Returns

As cold as ice
Wrapped round your brain
And darkness unfolds
You’re breathing in pain

It’s been freezing here
In this Land of Shattered Dreams
It’s been freezing here
This corrupted winter stings

It’s been freezing here
(Où est la Lavande?)
Your body can’t stay warm
(Où est la Lavande?)
It’s been freezing here
(Où est la Lavande?)
This cruel and criminal storm
(Où est la Lavande?)

But don’t give up
Don’t despair
Taste the hope
Floating through the air

When the lavender returns
It’ll warm your frozen bones
Vivid violet clothes
In their candy overtones

When the lavender returns
It’ll race across the land
Rebel flower grows
In the palm of your free hand

If you look out your window
The ground’s parched and bare
If you call for your lover
She’s no longer there
If you ponder your life
Well, it feels like a wreck
And your failures are scars
You can never forget

As leaves turn brown
Sky fades to grey
You’re feeling the drought
The end of the day

It’s been lonely here
In this World of Fallen Souls

Don't Leave Me Alone

Don’t leave me alone,
This dark cold night,
Don’t leave me alone,
In this freezing fright,
Don’t leave me alone,
With only myself,
My sanity a fickle friend,
Who’ll soon leave,
And take my peace,
A peace, which only you restore,
So don’t leave me alone,
In the dark cold night,
Don’t leave me alone,
With this freezing fright,
Don’t leave me alone,
With what I behold in my sight,
A life with out you,
And many a freezing night.

Thermoregulation in Winter Moths

How do the winter moths survive when other moths die? What enables them to avoid freezing as they rest, and what makes it possible for them to fly -- and so to seek food and mates -- in the cold?
Bernd Heinrich, Scientific American

1. The Himalayas

The room lies there, immaculate, bone light
on white walls, shell-pink carpet, and pale, too,
are the wrists and hands of professors gathered
in the outer hall where behind darkness
and a mirror they can observe unseen.
They were told: high in the Himalayas
Buddhist monks thrive in sub-zero cold
far too harsh for human life. Suspended
in the deep grace of meditation, they raise
their body heat and do not freeze to death.
So five Tibetan monks have been flown
to Cambridge and the basement of Reed Hall.
They sit now with crossed legs and slight smiles,
and white sheets lap over their shoulders
like enfolded wings. The sheets are wet,
and drops of water trickle down the monks'
bare backs. The professors wait patiently
but with the widened eyes of fathers
watching new babies in hospital cribs.
Their aluminum clipboards rest gently
in their laps, their pens are poised,
and in a well-lit room in Cambridge
five Tibetan monks sit under heavy wet sheets
and steam begins to rise from their shoulders.

2. Burn Ward

My friend speaks haltingly, the syllables freezing
against the night air because the nurse's story
still possesses him, the ease with which she tended
patients so lost in pain, so mangled, scarred, and
abandoned in some arctic zone of uncharted suffering
that strangers stumbling onto the ward might
cry out, rushing back to a world where the very air
did not grieve flesh. Empathy was impossible,
he said. A kind of fog or frozen lake lay between her
and the patient, far away. Empathy was an insult,
to look into the eyes of the consumed and pretend,
I know. It must have been this lake, this vast
glacial plain that she would never cross, where
the patient waved in the blue-gray distance,
alone and trembling the way winter moths tremble
to warm themselves, while she stood, also alone
and freezing, on the other side, it must have been
this unbearable cold that made her drive straight home

The last sunshine

The cold breeze
with icy freezing fingers
brushed leaves freezing
against the windowpanes.

Rain fell from a cold grey sky
seeping trough everything,
driving the freezing winter in.

I tried to lock the winter out
closed French louver windowpanes
and to only let
the much too timid sun in.

Outside the evergreen bay leave tree
that had been blown over
in a summer storm

have sprouted new long stems
covered with green leaves
already growing higher
than the roof
moving to and fro
as if rocked by the wind.

Distance is locking you out
and in your mind
we are growing apart
and are in a winter
of the heart

and you are sad
and read a farewell
in my lines
although I am still trying
to catch the last sunshine
of that which lies
between us.

Cricket on the Hearth

When red-nosed Winter takes the road,
An icicle his walking-stick,
When frost is on the woodman's load,
And snow is falling fast and thick,
Come, lusty youth and sapless eld,
Let's make a circle round the blaze
And talk of stumps,
Of nasty bumps,
That flew and came in sunny days.
For Cricket is played again, again,
At freezing time in Hull or Bath;
When summer's done the game's not gone--
There's Cricket on the Hearth!

Here's Jones from Rugby, Eton Jack,
And Grandpapa who, long ago,
Loved hitting when the Field was slack,
And crumped the bowling, swift or slow!
No more he's nimble on the green,
But what a history he tells
Of Surrey men
And hits for ten,
And heaps of most tremendous Swells!
For Cricket is played again, again,
At freezing time in Hull or Bath;
When summer's done the game's not gone--
There's Cricket on the Hearth!

The girls may call to Hide-and-Seek,
And lovely lasses take the floor;
But we discuss the Lob and Sneak,
The Canvas, Umpire, Over, Score!
How great a game to fill July,
May, June, and August with delights,
Yet in the frost
Be never lost,
But stir the blood on nipping nights!
For Cricket is played again, again,
At freezing times in Hull or Bath;
When summer's done the game's not gone--
There's Cricket on the Hearth!

Passing by Mother's Love

Her shame barely concealed
She lay on the pavement
Amidst arrogant feet.
Soiled, uncared, shabby,
With her loincloth
The mother covered the baby!
A moment heavenly
And in passing
Etched in me
Mother’s love!

Faceless Journey

An insider was asking:
this was a very troubling question.
Why a culture becomes sick,
burns the book,
and beheads a god?

Forgive my loincloth. This
century was becoming very hot
till the nose bleeds
and fills the cauldron
of kiss.

The dust was settling
on the pages of history.
Strangly you want now a
sexless death. Porn and religion
were making you realy mad.

Returning

You come home, sitting on my shoulders.
I bid you farewell at door. Death tiptoes in dark
before looking at the bare hands. A new concept of
ending comes out from crozier. Uncoiling has stopped.
In loincloth a truth unravels the mystery of cells. A
warm transparency. You walk around objectively,
returning the gifts to birds, bees and aspens. It
was time not to put up excuses. The wings are tired
and wind was falling.

Let the dance of nothingness start!

Bedrock Anthem

Sometimes I feel
Like I need a vacation
Sometimes I feel
Like I wanna go
To the city of cavemen
The city of bedrock
Id be a flinstone
Now Ill tell you why...
Well, Ive got Ive got a woman named wilma
Well, Ive got Ive got a baby named pebbles
Well, Ive got Ive got a doggy named dino
We do a little bowling and we drink a little vino
Well, Ive got a little buddy, barney rubble
Got a neighbor by the name of barney rubble
Hes a midget but he makes a lot of trouble
Doesnt like to shave, he got caveman stubble
Me and barney, loyal order water buffalo
Lodge brothers, loyal order water buffalo
Theres a handshake everybody gotta know
How come grand poo-bah always gotta run the whole show?
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba do now
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba do now
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba do now
I get by on all my prehistoric knowhow
Betty and barney got a baby named bamm-bamm
Little pebbles is his number one fan
Hes the strongest toddler in the whole land
Tear your arm off if he shakes your hand
Got a car, gonna push it with my feel now
Gonna take my family out to eat now
Jumbo ribs at the drive-in cant be beat now
Made from brontosaurus, baby, not a moo-cow
Wanna chill with a sabretooth tiger
Wear a loincloth, natural fiber
Be the first rolling stone subscriber
Got a pterodactyl for a windshield wiper
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba do now
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba do now
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba do now
Dont know what it means but I say it anyhow
Luck me, workin down in the gravel put
Movin rocks, on a big dinosaur I sit
Mr. slate gets mad and he throws a fit
Pull the birdies tail, everybody knows its time to quit
I realize Im living in the stone age
No fax, no cellular phone-age
Pick my teeth with a dinosaur bone-age
Liftin heavy boulders every day for my wage
Barney rubble, laughin like a hyena
Barney rubble, what a little weiner

Garden of Faith

Death disrobes the body of our fancy garments,

And clothes us with more common fashion:

A mere loincloth of sky blue silk,

So that we may feel the warm passion,

Of resurrection’s gorgeous spring

And the spiritual blessings it will bring.

So sleep on calmly with Jesus,

Beneath your coverlet of blue skies,

And know that the summer garden of ease

Will be there when you arise,

Like a lovely blossom given birth

From a shriveled seed in the earth.

Yellowish Rickshawman's shuttle service in the colorful city and off limits

In the capital
This simple man with a loincloth
Poor fellow his name and he doesn't know
His date of birth.
Just think of your forefather's age.
His sweaty bare body
And broken ribs sadden,
The bare feet tempered under the burning Sun
And he's familiar with all the tar and gravel roads
From the court to brothel
And the Magistrate to Clerk
He has drawn them on his rickety cart.
Though the journey's hard
He never said tired.
Now he rests in a Pauper's graveyard
And his tumbledown antique cart the last will
Nobody has taken to the boasting Museum?

LIKE A Da VINCI

Come, become my mirror to read the backward. Script
wards have failed me.
The sea is turbulent
and I am laying flowers at your feet.

What was is your eyes
unfathomable like a da Vinci?
Hold my trembling hands
I am going to dropp the gems.

Nobody will agree with me
there was a face on the wall.
Bare as the night moon of October
I have undone my beliefs.

A loincloth was sufficient to hide the birth.
Ceremony has begun to knead the lies.
Use your death as the furnace of life
where knives are sharpened to start the healing.
A stranger has come as the guest of the house
answers should not insult any question.

Solidarity

Still talking to a ghost
in oblique manner
about sexuality.

A centuary plant has not
bloomed;
wants to die.

The loincloth covers
the ocean floor
where it shipwrecked.

A fake will do.
God was on dialysis.
Chemistry of kiss did not work.

Between bullets and bread
grievers will descend
for a lost saviour.

Lenexa Baptist Church = Jesus

There once was a traveler who was driven out of town
On His shoulders was a burden that pushed Him to the ground.
On His head was a crown made of thorns from a bush
And the street was so crowded the guards had to push.

They beat Him with nine tails each step of the way
Where Christ found the strength, only God could say.
They stopped at some sandstone at the top of a hill
There was a round hole the cross would soon fill.

They made Him lie down upon that wood cross
There they nailed Him to prove who was boss.
The beam was up-ended by the muscles of men
As it plunged down the hole it was carved to fit in.

Then Jesus looked up at the lightning that flew
And cried, God, My Father, they know not what they do.
They crucified our Lord as His blood flowed to earth
If inside you believe, you feel what love is worth.

They wrapped Him in loincloth when He was taken down
Then carefully removed His scarlet stained crown.
They placed Him in a cave with a large, round, stone door
Before sealing forever, they lay lilies on the floor.

Though it wasn't very long, and the stone was rolled away
For Jesus resurrected, to rise on Easter Day!
