Confidence

(words & music by tepper - bennett)
When everyone thought the world was flat
Columbus said its round
He went down in history
And america was found
cause
He had confidence
A little thing called confidence
Theres no job too immense when youve got
Confidence
With a c and an o and an n and an f
And an I and a d and an ence
Put em all together and what have you got
Confidence
Youll be surprised what you can do
If you will only try
Remember the tortoise and the hare
Who had that famous race
The speedy hare wound up nowhere
And slow poke took first place
cause
He had confidence
A little thing called confidence
Theres no job too immense when youve got
Confidence
Youll be surprised what you can do
If you will only try
How do you know that you cant ride a rainbow in the sky
Youll be surprised what you can do
If you will only try
All you need is confidence
A little thing called confidence
Theres no job too immense when youve got
Confidence
With a c and an o and an n and an f
And an I and a d and an ence
Put em all together and what have you got
Confidence
Confi ..... confi .... confidence

Adored Exploration

My midnights are not spent,
In low tides.
Or staring at the stars,
That twinkle bright.
I might,
Decide...
To shake awake imaginations.

I don't stay up to wonder why...
Some people rather sleep,
Away their time!
I might,
Decide...
To shake awake imaginations.

Give me a chance to fly and soar.
Give me a reason to want more...
To fly off shores to me that bore.
In adored...
Exploration!

And dance on mountaintops without stop!
Or 'rock' with a beat I like until I drop.
And not be mocked by folks who try to rob,
My adored...
Exploration!

Give me a chance to fly and soar.
Give me a reason to want more...
To fly off shores to me that bore.
In adored...
Exploration!

My midnights are not spent,

The Twa Sisters

There liv'd twa sisters in a bower,
Hey Edinbruch, how Edinbruch.
There liv'd twa sisters in a bower,
Stirling for aye:
The youngest o' them, O, she was a flower!
Bonny Sanct Johnstonne that stands upon Tay.

There came a squire frae the west,
Hey Edinbruch, how Edinbruch.
There cam a squire frae the west,
Stirling for aye:
He lo'ed them baith, but the youngest best,
Bonny Sanct Johnstonne that stands upon Tay.

He gied the eldest a gay gold ring,
Hey Edinbruch, how Edinbruch.
He gied the eldest a gay gold ring,
Stirling for aye:
But he lo'ed the youngest aboon a' thing,
Bonny Sanct Johnstonne that stands upon Tay.

'Oh sister, sister, will ye go to the sea?
Hey Edinbruch, how Edinbruch.
Oh sister, sister, will ye go to the sea?
Stirling for aye:
Our father's ships sail bonnilie,
Bonny Sanct Johnstonne that stands upon Tay.'

The youngest sat down upon a stane,
Hey Edinbruch, how Edinbruch.
The youngest sat down upon a stane,
Stirling for aye:
The eldest shot the youngest in,
Bonny Sanct Johnstonne that stands upon Tay.

'Oh sister, sister, lend me your hand,
Hey Edinbruch, how Edinbruch.
Oh, sister, sister, lend me your hand,
Stirling for aye:
And you shall hae my gouden fan,
Bonny Sanct Johnstonne that stands upon Tay.

'Oh, sister, sister, save my life,
Hey Edinbruch, how Edinbruch.
Oh sister, sister, save my life,
Stirling for aye:
And ye shall be the squire's wife,
Bonny Sweet Johnstonne that stands upon Tay.'

First she sank, and then she swam,

Remember Struggles From The Bottom

Pick up those feet and leap!
Believe you can conquer,
Over obstacles to defeat.
With a beating done to erase and cease.

Remember struggles from the bottom.
Know what was done to step away from it.
Never settle for the minimum.
And,
Resist to have your confidence dismissed.

Remember struggles from the bottom.
And
Resist to have your confidence dismissed.
Know what was done to keep your dreams focused.

Remember struggles from the bottom.
Know what was done to step away from it.
Never settle for the minimum.
And,
Resist to have your confidence dismissed.
Resist to have your confidence dismissed.

Remember struggles from the bottom.
With a boosted confidence.
Remember struggles from the bottom.

Thomas Jefferson

It would be a dangerous delusion were a confidence in the men of our choice to silence our fears for the safety of our rights; that confidence is every where the parent of despotism; free government is founded in jealousy, and not in confidence; it is jealousy, and not confidence, which prescribes limited constitutions to bind down those whom we are obliged to trust with power; that our Constitution has accordingly fixed the limits to which, and no farther, our confidence may go; and let the honest advocate of confidence read the Alien and Sedition Acts, and say if the Constitution has not been wise in fixing limits to the government it created, and whether we should be wise in destroying those limits; let him say what the government is, if it be not a tyranny, which the men of our choice have conferred on the President, and the President of our choice has assented to and accepted, over the friendly strangers, to whom the mild spirit of our country and its laws had pledged hospitality and protection; that the men of our choice have more respected the bare suspicions of the President than the solid rights of innocence, the claims of justification, the sacred force of truth, and the forms and substance of law and justice. In questions of power, then, let no more be said of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.

Auld Maitland

There lived a king in southern land,
King Edward hight his name;
Unwordily he wore the crown,
Till fifty years were gane.

He had a sister's son o's ain,
Was large of blood and bane;
And afterward, when he came up,
Young Edward hight his name.

One day he came before the king,
And kneel'd low on his knee:
'A boon, a boon, my good uncle,
I crave to ask of thee!

'At our lang wars, in fair Scotland,
I fain ha'e wish'd to be,
If fifteen hundred waled wight men
You'll grant to ride with me.'

'Thou shall ha'e thae, thou shall ha'e mae;
I say it sickerlie;
And I myself, an auld gray man,
Array'd your host shall see.'

King Edward rade, King Edward ran--
I wish him dool and pyne!
Till he had fifteen hundred men
Assembled on the Tyne.

And thrice as many at Berwicke
Were all for battle bound,
[Who, marching forth with false Dunbar,
A ready welcome found.]

They lighted on the banks of Tweed,
And blew their coals sae het,
And fired the Merse and Teviotdale,
All in an evening late.

As they fared up o'er Lammermoor,
They burn'd baith up and down,
Until they came to a darksome house,
Some call it Leader-Town.

'Wha hauds this house?' young Edward cried,
'Or wha gi'est o'er to me?'
A gray-hair'd knight set up his head,
And crackit right crousely:

The Twelve Dancing Princesses

If you danced from midnight
to six A.M. who would understand?

The runaway boy
who chucks it all
to live on the Boston Common
on speed and saltines,
pissing in the duck pond,
rapping with the street priest,
trading talk like blows,
another missing person,
would understand.

The paralytic's wife
who takes her love to town,
sitting on the bar stool,
downing stingers and peanuts,
singing 'That ole Ace down in the hole,'
would understand.

The passengers
from Boston to Paris
watching the movie with dawn
coming up like statues of honey,
having partaken of champagne and steak
while the world turned like a toy globe,
those murderers of the nightgown
would understand.

The amnesiac
who tunes into a new neighborhood,
having misplaced the past,
having thrown out someone else's
credit cards and monogrammed watch,
would understand.

The drunken poet
(a genius by daylight)
who places long-distance calls
at three A.M. and then lets you sit
holding the phone while he vomits
(he calls it 'The Night of the Long Knives')
getting his kicks out of the death call,
would understand.

The insomniac
listening to his heart
thumping like a June bug,
listening on his transistor
to Long John Nebel arguing from New York,

Just Because I'm the Youngest

Just because i'm the youngest in my family...
Doesn't mean I can't do anything.
Doesn't mean i'm a spoiled brat.
Doesn't mean i'm a jerk.
Just because i'm the youngest in my family...
I'm not stuck up.
I'm not afraid to get hurt.
Just because i'm the youngest in my family...
Doesn't mean I can't be a tom'boy.
Doesn't mean I get what I want.
Just because i'm the youngest in my family~ let me be me.

Motel Eyes

Her come on was direct and strong
From her question to her kiss
She said shed had a little much to drink
She didnt usually do this
But she was looking for another head to scalp tonight
And she had me right between her sights
I turned to face her as the jukebox clicked off
Playing a favorite song
And she looked pretty in the low lit bar
But something was wrong
I saw a dull red neon sign flashing in her eyes
It said vacancy, she had motel eyes
They were black as the night
And shone like a star
Fueled by the light
From a medicine jar
I looked again but there was nothing there
But ice in her eyes
Theres no disguising motel eyes
She had the angles all down pat
Her average must be high
And though it could have been a pleasure
I just had to say goodbye
Though there was something wicked
bout the way she flexed her thighs
She scared me with her motel eyes
They were black as the night
And shone like a star
Fueled by the light
From a medicine jar
I looked again but there was nothing there
But ice in her eyes
Theres no disguising motel eyes
She started saying something
bout movement versus size
The sign kept flashing in her motel eyes
They were black as the night
And shone like a star
Fueled by the light
From a medicine jar
I looked again but there was nothing there
But ice in her eyes
Theres no disguising motel eyes
Black as the night
Black as the night, motel eyes

Krwlng (Mike Shinoda Feat. Aaron Lewis)

Crawling in my skin
Without a sense of confidence
Consuming, confusing
Crawling in my skin
Without a sense of confidence I'm convinced that there's just too much prssure too take
There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
[Aaron]
Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real
[Chester]
There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming, confusing
This lack of self control I fear is never ending
Controlling
I can't seem
To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence Im convinced that theres just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure
[Aaron and Chester]
Crawling In my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real
Discomfort, endlessly has pulled itself upon me
Distracting, reacting
Against my will I stand beside my own reflectionIt's haunting how I can't seem...
To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence Im convinced that theres just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure
Without a sense of confidence i'm convinced that theres just too much pressure to take (2x)
Cant seem to find myself again my walls are closing in..
Without a sense of confidence I'm convinced that theres just too much pressure to take
Ive felt this way before so insecure..
[Aaron and Chester]
Crawling In my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall

Confidence | Words of Wisdom

Don’t mistake power for confidence
You’ll never never like how it ends
Take your stance and understand
Confidence is the greatest tool
Confidence is power that’s my first rule

Now weapons aren’t that sharp even from the start
But confidence is evident etched with in your brain
Confidence is sharper than any razor blade
Individuality is a packaged deal
You’ve got to trust yourself and know yourself for real

Now trying to control ain’t gonna work
Power is a tool that’s broke
Too much effort, too much mess,
Leaving a trail of broken heart and broken glass
So there’s my proof I say it with confidence

Sweet Romance

Father dear, dont you hear me
Im alone, and I cant sleep from crying
Father dear, well if you hear me
Ive been held closely by a stranger
Sweet romance
The moment that my eyes first saw him
In a glance
I knew right from the start that I adored him
Sweet romance
I may never see the man again, so help me find him
So help me find him
Listen, if you find him
Wont you tell him just how much I love him
Father, Ive only got you
Please, wont you make him love me too
Sweet romance
The moment that my eyes first saw him
In a glance
I knew right from the start that I adored him
Sweet romance
I may never see the man again, so help me find him
So help me find him
Oh, oh, oh
Sweet, sweet
Sweet romance
The moment that my eyes first saw him
In a glance
I knew right from the start that I adored him
Sweet romance
I may never see the man again, so help me find him
So help me find him
Father, hear me calling
Youre the only one I can turn to
My life has been so empty
And he could fill my emptiness too
Sweet romance
The moment that my eyes first saw him
In a glance
I knew right from the start that I adored him
Sweet romance
I may never see the man again, so help me find him
Help me, help me

Le Léthé (Lethe)

Viens sur mon coeur, âme cruelle et sourde,
Tigre adoré, monstre aux airs indolents;
Je veux longtemps plonger mes doigts tremblants
Dans l'épaisseur de ta crinière lourde;

Rien ne me vaut l'abîme de ta couche;
L'oubli puissant habite sur ta bouche,
Et le Léthé coule dans tes baisers.

À mon destin, désormais mon délice,
J'obéirai comme un prédestiné;
Martyr docile, innocent condamné,
Dont la ferveur attise le supplice,

Je sucerai, pour noyer ma rancoeur,
Le népenthès et la bonne ciguë
Aux bouts charmants de cette gorge aiguë
Qui n'a jamais emprisonné de coeur.

Lethe

Come, lie upon my breast, cruel, insensitive soul,
Adored tigress, monster with the indolent air;
I want to plunge trembling fingers for a long time
In the thickness of your heavy mane,

To bury my head, full of pain
In your skirts redolent of your perfume,
To inhale, as from a withered flower,
The moldy sweetness of my defunct love.

I wish to sleep! to sleep rather than live!
In a slumber doubtful as death,
I shall remorselessly cover with my kisses
Your lovely body polished like copper.

To bury my subdued sobbing
Nothing equals the abyss of your bed,
Potent oblivion dwells upon your lips

A Reading Of Life--With The Persuader

Who murmurs, hither, hither: who
Where nought is audible so fills the ear?
Where nought is visible can make appear
A veil with eyes that waver through,
Like twilight's pledge of blessed night to come,
Or day most golden? All unseen and dumb,
She breathes, she moves, inviting flees,
Is lost, and leaves the thrilled desire
To clasp and strike a slackened lyre,
Till over smiles of hyacinth seas,
Flame in a crystal vessel sails
Beneath a dome of jewelled spray,
For land that drops the rosy day
On nights of throbbing nightingales.

Landward did the wonder flit,
Or heart's desire of her, all earth in it.
We saw the heavens fling down their rose;
On rapturous waves we saw her glide;
The pearly sea-shell half enclose;
The shoal of sea-nymphs flush the tide;
And we, afire to kiss her feet, no more
Behold than tracks along a startled shore,
With brightened edges of dark leaves that feign
An ambush hoped, as heartless night remain.

More closely, warmly: hither, hither! she,
The very she called forth by ripened blood
For its next breath of being, murmurs; she,
Allurement; she, fulfilment; she,
The stream within us urged to flood;
Man's cry, earth's answer, heaven's consent; O she,
Maid, woman and divinity;
Our over-earthly, inner-earthly mate
Unmated; she, our hunger and our fruit
Untasted; she our written fate
Unread; Life's flowering, Life's root:
Unread, divined; unseen, beheld;
The evanescent, ever-present she,
Great Nature's stern necessity
In radiance clothed, to softness quelled;
With a sword's edge of sweetness keen to take
Our breath for bliss, our hearts for fulness break.

The murmur hushes down, the veil is rent.
Man's cry, earth's answer, heaven's consent,
Her form is given to pardoned sight,
And lets our mortal eyes receive
The sovereign loveliness of celestial white;
Adored by them who solitarily pace,

Be it a potted pant

One may draw confidence
From the robe or crown he wears.
One may draw confidence
From the skin he possesses.
One may boast with confidence
From the connection he has.

Confidence grows to pride,
Pride, to conceit and conceit,
To vanity or atrocity.
Be confidence a potted plant.

King Of Confidence

She had her mind made up just like her face
She painted in the lines and shadows
She shaded color in that would express
The lonely mood that follows
Love, short and painful and tidy lies in self-defense
She just told a thing or two to the King of Confidence
You said that he could tell her anything
She even held him when he was crying
And made her feel she was the only one
You knew that he was lying when he said he was lying
Love is short and painful, that she finally made sense
Of the love he had for the one and only King of Confidence
It's hard enough to be your lover and alone your confidant
You say you know what I need but you don't know who I want
It's just another tawdry morning now
another tarnished farewell
Your body's tired and complaining now
But you're too tore down to tell
Love is short and painful, all you kind ladies and gents
I spent years and a couple of days as the King of Confidence
It's hard enough to be your lover and alone your confidant
You say you know what I need but you don't know who I want
It's just another tawdry morning now
another tarnished farewell
Your body's tired and complaining now
But you're too tore down to tell
Love is short and painful, all you kind ladies and gents

Awkward And Uncomfortable

Hello, my friends again.
Let me reintroduce the proper way.
First my name with a little more attitude and confidence.

Then let me crack a joke to break the ice.
The simplest one will suffice.
My shyness is a wire that need to be spliced.
When under such exposure can I keep my composure?
I just do not know.

But hello, my friends again.
Let me reintroduce the proper way.
First my name with a little more attitude and confidence.

Then let me fall apart right in front of everyone.
Let me share in my horror stories of what some would call life.
Some would ask the question but isn't it fun?
I would say yes but at times I just want to run.
Hide in a dark corner holding a sharp knife.
It's pointed and ready.
I'm so scared.
Feelings in rawness to bare.

But hello, my friends again.
Let me reintroduce the proper way.
First my name with a little more attitude and confidence.

They say practice makes perfect.
But of that paraphrase I feel so deserted.
No matter how many times I try one is just as awkward as the next.
It gets me all anxious and upset.
What if i do it wrong?
Worst yet if I do it exactly right and this one girl gets turned on?
What if she one of those that expects something a lonely soul like me can never give?
As things perpetuate at a steady pace it gets harder and harder to say no.

But hello, my friends again.
Let me reintroduce the proper way.
First my name with a little more attitude and confidence.

But hello, my friends again.
Let me reintroduce the proper way.
First my name with a little more attitude and confidence.

Confidence

Not easily refined or defined,
Is confidence.
Nor is it cropped to pluck,
Off from a Sun drenched vine.
To slowly savor for the flavor.

Confidence is a development.
A work in progess.
Not recited from studied print.
Nor listening as lectured...
From a podium will convince,
The taking of notes...
Will provoke it into existence.

Confidence,
Similar to experience...
Is something done,
That is seldom pleasant...
When it comes as a personal delivery.
And...
Most times arrogance is misrepresented for it.

However,
It does take obedience and strength to listen.
To then comprehend that failure does not mean to stop,
To yield and repeat flops.
As a sign that ambition obtained has been dropped.
No,
It does not!

Caution perhaps,
To proceed at your own risk.
But confidence does not allow obstacles to prevent,
Progress.
Or the jumping over hurdles.
Since each hurdle cleared...
Removes the fear to face another.

Clarifying anyone's doubt about confidence adopted!
