From The Time I Was Born

All of my life,
From the time I was born...
I was told,
From the time I was born...
Don't have initiative too bold.

And all of my life,
From the time I was born...
I found that wrong.
From the time I was born...
I had to be,
From the time I was born...
More than stong,
Bold all day long.

All of my life,
From the time I was born...
I was told,
From the time I was born...
Don't have initiative too bold.

And all of my life,
From the time I was born...
I found that wrong.
From the time I was born...
I had to be,
From the time I was born...
More than stong,
All day long...
And bold,
All of my life.

I was taught so early,
To feel real blessed.
And...
To watch the eyes on my back.
With no rest from taking a nap.

I was taught so early,
To feel real blessed.
And...
Not to ask for slack.
Or be slapped for lacking facts.
If I lived my life like that.

All of my life,
From the time I was born...
I was told,
From the time I was born...
Don't have initiative too bold.

And all of my life,
From the time I was born...
I found that wrong.
From the time I was born...
I had to be,
From the time I was born...
More than stong,
All day long...
And bold,
All of my life.

I had to be,
More than stong...
All of my life,
From the time I was born...
I had to be,
More than stong,
All of my life.

From the time I was born,
I had to be,
More than stong.

From the time that every day had begun (Strambotto Toscano)

From the time that every day had begun
life has got a struggle, an ageless kind of plea,
and from the awakening of the white hot sun,
even creatures in the unbounded sea
was threatened as they were having some fun
yet from all of these things our true love stands free
as it sparkles like a star during the darkest night,
forever shines bright with its own kind of light.

What We Wanted All Along (Revised)

What We Wanted All Along (Revised)
The sun made a turquoise pool for me in saying
Goodnight, creating glaciers blue using clouds
drifting by - now to explain my take on Many
World's Theory:

Quantum theorists say make a decision and
worlds split - divergent choices fulfilled meet
at one point if the same effect results from
every choice

The Many Worlds fuse again, - when different
decisions lead to different results, worlds stay
apart, every new universe has to meet its very
own destiny

We prepare the mind to pick up signs of new
events through mediation, we choose whether
we participate or go another way, the sub-
conscious drives our minds

We're informed subliminally of what's to come,
free to agree or reject each destiny - thus we
shape our lives - if we don't understand
how it came about, life is agony

But if we fathom what is going on, we realise the
final end is what we wanted all along

A Lover's Melody or And from the Oboe Came a Pretty Sound

And from the oboe came a pretty sound
The crescendo called love
From the bell that was his lover's heart
More beautiful than anything
Vivaldi could compose
True, she was an oboe
Alone, in an orchestra of drums, saxophones, and pianos
But she met a guitar
A beautifully carved acoustic instrument
That made a sound like no other
She'd ever heard

Together they made sweet, sweet music
The love-struck oboe wanted to stay
With the guitar, cut a deal, and
Make some records
But, alas, the guitar
Was completely unaware
Of the melody the oboe was playing

From the oboe came a pretty sound
And the guitar, he sung back
Of the returned love
The oboe was looking for,
It was a tune of lament—sad and slow
For he knew he could not give her
What she desired
So he set himself on fire
And from the guitar came a descend

When the oboe found her lover she
picked up what was left of he
and put it in a box of oak
and sailed it off to sea

the oboe knew no sad songs
but she wanted to sing him a tune
so on the beautiful sunset on June
she hummed him what she knew

…and from the oboe came a pretty sound

The Obviousness Of The Evidence Shown

Throughout my life...
And others who could attest to my sentiments.
I have had others who believed they knew me.
To say that I wasn't 'that' enough for 'their' liking.
Can you imagine?
As if I was born to prove to them...
My life and efforts were on a rating scale.
To please their whims and noninvolvements.

Or that I wasn't a 'real' this to claim that,
But to be just what they said I 'was' or wasn't.
To demean any attempts I made in anything...
I 'wanted' to do to get done.
And the color of my skin,
Had a lot to do with that too.
Oh...
I got it from both sides of the fence.
With some painful comments,
Forever to be remembered.

Or I thought I was better than others.
I like that one!
Because I spoke to have others understand,
What it was I was saying.
I spoke too clearly.
LOL...
Seriously.
I have actually had people tell me that.
I wish I was joking but I am not.
I was told I spoke as if I was a caucasian.
As if I wanted to be!
A black boy living in a black neighborhood.
With black friends and surrounded by blackness.

Or...
Check this out!
If I really wanted to do what I wanted to do,
I'd move and go somewhere else.
Because 'they' weren't going to allow me,
To do what I wanted to do in the place I was born.
Uh...
Excuse?
Are you looking for an exit sign?
Because I am not.

Well...
Thank God I didn't allow their comments,
To ruin my ambitions.
Like others they have done with a doing,
Who bought into that kind of evilness...
To achieve exactly what the obviousness,
Of the evidence shown as proof of 'their' doings.
Not mine!
My wishes and dreams are not to be limited!
Period.
With an exclamation!

Mpho She Was Named

Let me take u tru the story of a girl called Mpho
Lost both her parents in a car accident
An Angel beautiful, smart kind and decent
But her ordeal started when she moved in with her uncle
She neva thot life cant be much harsher
Cos all he eva did was rape and abuse her
She needed a way out an escape tunnel
Lifted herself up ran away
found herself in jozi the concrete jungle
A lonely soul in hell, she knew no one
She needed cash met a girl
Who told her the fast way to get wud be for her to sell her flesh
For Mpho it was neva an option so she started doing promotions
She couldn’t even pay her rent or let alone save a cent
The tragedy of her life was soon to manifest
One night out she decided to seduce a man
Starting to realize that reality needed her to have a plan
Slept with the man, tears dripping down her face
she thot she cud handle the pain
Feeling his thrust in her again and again
In the morning she felt selfless and used
How much different was this from the time she was raped and abused
Her dignity was demolished and her morals just vanished
She cried harder then the day both her parents perished
Saw her life vanquished along with her goals
She was just a living corpse all hallow with no soul
At first it hurt she cud not face herself in the mirror
But the more money she got the more she felt superior
Is this the same girl who dreamt of being a positive public figure?
Dat angel had sold her soul to the devil
Not to different from the day satan walked out of heaven
Lived her life, like she was a true rebel
But the only person she was killing was herself
She fell pregnant and didn’t know what to do
Neva wanted to abort and neva wanted to keep it to
Drinking everyday hoping that she will miss carry
Not being able to sleep
Hearing mama’s voice say the man who makes u pregnant
shud be the one u wanna marry

From The Cradle To Enslave

Two thousand fattened years like maniacs
Have despoiled our common grave
Now what necrophagous Second Coming backs
From the cradle to enslave?

Sickle constellations
Stud the belts that welt the sky
Whilst the bitter winter moon
Prowls the cloud

The well of love

I think in these quiet moments of the night
That love and despise are two feelings of close side
Although we prefer one and shun the other
Nevertheless we do confuse between one another

Like two branches emerging from the same trunk
Of tree, nourished by roots of the same rank
Yet they are so different upon our mood.
Love turns its head towards the EAST
The dawn of day, the sun of new hopes
Despise turns its head towards the west
The end of the day, the dusk before the dark
The pause, the end, the death
The cease, the change.......

There is a change, and I am left poor
The love that had been, nor long ago
A fountain at my heart's door
Whose only tread was to flow
And flow it did; not taking heed
Of storms of tempests
Of its own bounty, or my need

What happy moments I knew
What divine thoughts I drew
From its existence
Blessed was I then all bliss above
Now for this consecrated Fount
Of murmuring, sparkling, living love
What have I left with? Shall I dare tell?
A comfort less and a hidden well

Yes a well of love
I guess
It may be still deep
With water fresh and distilled
I trust it is, and never dry
What it matters if the waters sleep?
In silence and in obscurity of its deep
Such a change, at the very door
Of my fond heart, has made me poor

Starting Again

Music: Barry Manilow
Lyrics: Marty Panzer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And it started again And I meant every word
And I liked what I said
And I liked what I heard
And I started to think
I could think about starting again
We were laughing again
Over memories and wine
And the years in between
Didn't seem a long time
When I smiled she knew why
In a while it was starting again
And I started to think I could feel again
All the bad times seemed unreal
When I looked in her eyes
The cheating, the lies,
The things that were wrong seemed far behind
And I started to think I could care again
And my fears all disappeared
When she called me by name
I knew that she'd changed
The flaws were all gone
The Saint remained
But it started again when I asked her to stay
And she said, "There's this friend who's in town just today"
And she really felt bad, but she had to be leaving again
And she left me again as she'd left me before
Still pretending she cared when we kissed at the door
But I saw in her eyes that the lies were all starting again
Just when I started to feel again
When all the bad times seemed unreal
When it all seemed so right and I thought that tonight
If she said she cared, she really might
Just when my fears disappeared again
And I heard what I wanted to hear
It all started again
And I knew what that meant
It wasn't the start
It was really the end

Emily Brontë

The battle had passed from the height

The battle has passed from the height,
And still did evening fall;
While heaven with its restful night
Gloriously canopied all.

The dead around were sleeping
On heath and granite grey,
And the dying their last watch were keeping
In the closing of the day.

*

+
#
*

How golden bright from earth and heaven
The summer day declines!
How gloriously o'er land and sea
The parting sunbeam shines!
There is a voice in the wind that waves
Those bright rejoicing trees.

Not a vapour had stained the breezeless blue,
Not a cloud had dimmed the sun,
From the time of morning's earliest dew
Till the summer day was done.

And all as pure and all as bright
The sun of evening died,
And purer still its parting light
Shone on Lake Elnor's tide.

Waveless and calm lies that silent deep
In its wilderness of moors,
Solemn and soft the moonbeams sleep
Upon its heathy shores.

The deer are gathered to their rest,
The wild sheep seek the fold.
Only some spires of bright green grass
Transparently in sunshine quivering.

The sun has set, and the long grass now
Waves dreamily in the evening wind;
And the wild bird has flown from that old grey stone,
In some warm nook a couc hto find.

In all the lonely landscape round
I see no light and hear no sound,
Except the wind that far away
Comes sighing o'er the healthy sea.

Lady, in thy palace hall,
Once perchance thy face was seen;
Can no memory now recall
Thought again to what has been?

Come In From The Cold

Back in 1957
We had to dance a foot apart
And they hawk-eyed us from the sidelines
Holding their rulers without a heart
And so with just a touch of our fingers
I could make our circuitry explode
All we ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Come in
Come in from the cold
(we were so young)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold
We really thought we had a purpose
We were so anxious to achieve
We had hope
The world held promise
For a slave to liberty
Freely I slaved away for something better
And I was bought and sold
And all I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Come in
Come in from the cold
(we were so sure)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold
I feel your leg under the table
Leaning into mine
I feel renewed
I feel disabled
By these bonfires in my spine
I dont know who the arsonist was
Which incendiary soul
But all I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Come in
Come in from the cold
(you were so warm)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold
I am not some stone commission
Like a statue in a park
I am flesh and blood and vision
I am howling in the dark
Long blue shadows of the jackals
Are falling on a pay phone by the road
Oh all they ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Come in
Come in from the cold
(I was so low)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold
Is this just vulgar electricity
Is this the edifying fire
(it was so pure)
Does your smiles covert complicity
Debase as it admires
(just a flu with a temperature)
Are you just checking out your mojo
(oohoo)
Or am I just fighting off growing old
(just a high fever)
All I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Come in
Come in from the cold
(it was so pure)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold
I know we never will be perfect
Never entirely clear
(when the moon shines)
We get hurt and we just panic
And we strike out
Out of fear
(you were only being kind)
I fear the sentence of this solitude
200 years on hold
(for my loving crime)
Oh and all we ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Come in
Come in from the cold
(when the moon shines)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold
When I thought life had some purpose
Then I thought I had some choice
(I was running blind)
And I made some value judgments
In a self-important voice
(I was outa line)
But then absurdity came over me
And I longed to lose control
(into no mind)
Oh all I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Come in
Come in from the cold
(you were so kind)
Please come in
(so kind)
Come in from the cold
Come in come in
Come in from the cold, etc.

Isis

I married isis on the fifth day of may,
But I could not hold on to her very long.
So I cut off my hair and I rode straight away
For the wild unknown country where I could not go wrong.
I came to a high place of darkness and light.
The dividing line ran through the center of town.
I hitched up my pony to a post on the right,
Went in to a laundry to wash my clothes down.
A man in the corner approached me for a match.
I knew right away he was not ordinary.
He said, are you lookin for somethin easy to catch?
I said, I got no money. he said, that aint necessary.
We set out that night for the cold in the north.
I gave him my blanket, he gave me his word.
I said, where are we goin? he said wed be back by the fourth.
I said, thats the best news that Ive ever heard.
I was thinkin about turquoise, I was thinkin about gold,
I was thinkin about diamonds and the worlds biggest necklace.
As we rode through the canyons, through the devilish cold,
I was thinkin about isis, how she thought I was so reckless.
How she told me that one day we would meet up again,
And things would be different the next time we wed,
If I only could hang on and just be her friend.
I still cant remember all the best things she said.
We came to the pyramids all embedded in ice.
He said, theres a body Im tryin to find.
If I carry it out itll bring a good price.
twas then that I knew what he had on his mind.
The wind it was howlin and the snow was outrageous.
We chopped through the night and we chopped through the dawn.
When he died I was hopin that it wasnt contagious,
But I made up my mind that I had to go on.
I broke into the tomb, but the casket was empty.
There was no jewels, no nothin, I felt Id been had.
When I saw that my partner was just bein friendly,
When I took up his offer I must-a been mad.
I picked up his body and I dragged him inside,
Threw him down in the hole and I put back the cover.
I said a quick prayer and I felt satisfied.
Then I rode back to find isis just to tell her I love her.
She was there in the meadow where the creek used to rise.
Blinded by sleep and in need of a bed,
I came in from the east with the sun in my eyes.
I cursed her one time then I rode on ahead.
She said, where ya been? I said, no place special.
She said, you look different. I said, well, I guess.
She said, you been gone. I said, thats only natural.
She said, you gonna stay. I said, if you want me to, yes.
Isis, oh, isis, you mystical child.
What drives me to you is what drives me insane.
I still can remember the way that you smiled
On the fifth day of may in the drizzlin rain.

Black Riders Came From the Sea

Black riders came from the sea.
There was clang and clang of spear and shield,
And clash and clash of hoof and heel,
Wild shouts and the wave of hair
In the rush upon the wind:
Thus the ride of sin.
