We May Have Great Plans For The Future

We may have great plans for the future but the future seems so far away
And we only can live in the present tomorrow is another day
The future's not ours to look into I once heard a wise woman say
And the sooner the rose comes into bloom the sooner 'twill fade to decay.

You will not find one who doesn't have dreams but dreams of course seldom come true
Still dreams to us all are important we all need a dream to pursue
We all need our dreams to inspire us and those who do not have a dream
Have lost their sense of life direction like a leaf in a rapid flowing stream.

When one hopes for a better tomorrow those sentiments apply to us all
And though the future we cannot look into the past we can readily recall
Of life there is truth in the saying that we must take the good days with the bad
The bright moments of joy and laughter and the dark moments when we feel sad.

We may have great plans for the future for a better tomorrow maybe
But what the future might hold for us is something that we cannot see
We keep on in hope of the good times and we all need our dreams to pursue
And if for me good things don't happen then good things might happen for you.

When I Get To The Root Of What I Really Want

When I get to the root of what I really want
it all comes down to the nothing that I've got.
If a mirror were to publish me the way I really look,
I'd look like a rootless tree, scattering all its leaves
and dropping its fruit like tears that got too heavy to bear.
I look at a beautiful woman now as if she were art,
a Caravaggio in a gallery, as my eyes are
just as happy to see, as my hands once were to touch.
Noli me tangere. Because I don't love anyone,
not even myself. Love is a double-edged sword
that can't dance solo, and my longing's been
a wandering troubadour for so long now, I can
mark the eras of my life by the number of windows
I've stood under singing to the waxing moon as it opens up.

I've always been a foolish dream weaver
trying to make a waterbed out of a snakepit for two
knowing how long it takes for the flying carpets to wear through.
I'm Pictish enough to live with a blue body
covered in lunar tattoos, or play the sacred clown
so I can use my absurdity as an alibi for the loss of my innocence,
and everybody's innocent at the beginning of love,
as if the moon were renewing her virginity in you.
I've lived with a lioness, two witches, an apostate madonna,
a beast mistress, one demon with juno, a couple of butterflies
that landed on the tip of the split dragon's tongue
divining for water in hell a moment or two
before their flightpaths got so erratic I couldn't keep up
and not wanting to fly wingman anymore,
tilted my wings good-bye, and banked back
into the depths and the heights of my reptilian solitude.

If things aren't perfect after you get over the shock of moonrise
believe me, the night you stop blaming
the flaws in your telescope
or the cinders in your own eyes
and realize how much dark ore it takes
for a nugget of gold to cast it
like a mountain of shadows behind it,
you'd make a much better astronomer than you are now.
You'd be able to relate to the asteroids
as easily as you do the radiant rings and shepherd moons
with their alluring promise of a mysterious life
just under the eyelids of their ice-caps,
as you peer through the cracks in their cataracts.

My heart's been savaged by firestorms of stars
sweeping across deserts of volcanic ash and pumice
by thousands of delusions arming themselves like mirages
to wound the very water they depended for their lives upon
because they didn't think there were enough bubbles in the hourglass.
You wake up one morning and find the skull of the moon
polluting your wishing well, it's time to pack up
and take your lute on the road again like uprooted rain.
Try for a graceful exit but if it's a little more brutal
than your entrance, do the best you can one abyss at a time
so that when you're on your death bed reviewing all this,
you won't have to wince too hard
at all your futile attempts to remain indefensibly human.

Do You Really Want To Hurt Me

I needed time to realize my crime
It was let me love & steal
I did dances inside my mind
Now how can I be real
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
No I don t really want to hurt you then
Lovers always asked me:
Why why why why
In my mind my memorys burning
Whats your favorite color of your favorite car?
I took a step the step was learning
That thats a step beyond a step too far
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
No I dont really want to hurt you
I told the truth but it was still a lie
The words are few some are unspoken
I could sleep four thousand years
Man of sorrows
Word unbroken
His sweat like blood came down like tears
Ive been talking but believe me
I know that its true
Now that theres no more
I dont know
Im in love and loves the reason
Im not prepared to let you let me go so
If its love you want
Then take all of me
Its this love I want I can finally see
Do I really want to hurt you?
Do I really want to make you cry?
Yes I suppose I want to hurt you
You told the truth but it was still a lie

To A Gentleman On His Voyage To Great-Britain For The Recovery Of His Health

WHILE others chant of gay Elysian scenes,
Of balmy zephyrs, and of flow'ry plains,
My song more happy speaks a greater name,
Feels higher motives and a nobler flame.
For thee, O R-----, the muse attunes her strings,
And mounts sublime above inferior things.
I sing not now of green embow'ring woods,
I sing not now the daughters of the floods,
I sing not of the storms o'er ocean driv'n,
And how they howl'd along the waste of heav'n.
But I to R----- would paint the British shore,
And vast Atlantic, not untry'd before:
Thy life impair'd commands thee to arise,
Leave these bleak regions and inclement skies,
Where chilling winds return the winter past,
And nature shudders at the furious blast.
O thou stupendous, earth-enclosing main
Exert thy wonders to the world again!
If ere thy pow'r prolong'd the fleeting breath,
Turn'd back the shafts, and mock'd the gates of death,
If ere thine air dispens'd an healing pow'r,
Or snatch'd the victim from the fatal hour,
This equal case demands thine equal care,
And equal wonders may this patient share.
But unavailing, frantic is the dream
To hope thine aid without the aid of him
Who gave thee birth and taught thee where to flow,
And in thy waves his various blessings show.
May R----- return to view his native shore
Replete with vigour not his own before,
Then shall we see with pleasure and surprise,
And own thy work, great Ruler of the skies!

If You Really Want it

You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
You can do it if you want and climb to the top.

You don't have to give up it to come to a stop.
You don't have to give up it to come to a stop.
You don't have to give up it to come to a stop.
You can do it if you want and climb to the top.

Successful,
People don't stop...
A wanting,
To climb to the top.
And dreaming,
To succeed...
With belief!

And...
Often found to weep.

Successful,
People don't stop...
A wanting,
To climb to the top.
And dreaming,
To succeed...
With belief!

And...
Often found to weep.

So,
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
No,
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
So,
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
You can do it if you want and climb to the top.

No,
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
So,
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
No,
You don't have to give it up to come to a stop.
If you really want it you can climb to the top.

Successful,
People don't stop...
If you really want it you can climb to the top.

Successful,
People don't stop...
A wanting,
To climb to the top.
If you really want it you can climb to the top.

Successful,
People don't stop...
If you really want it you can climb to the top.
If you really want it you can climb to the top.
If you really want it you can climb to the top.
If you really want it you wont come to a stop!

Sonnet For The World

I want to write a sonnet for the world
I want it to make you feel warm and cold
one where you can whisper and still be heard
treat it like a child, it is born, and hold
it so it becomes yours and not just mine
speak it like a prophet and pass it down
it is not a man who has done a crime
nor should it be lost when at last its found
it should open doors, it should give your chance
to question all the things you do not know
it should be the answer for ignorance
taking you places that you want to go
it should be a sonnet to save us all
only I wait for my angel to call.

For the Sleepwalkers

Tonight I want to say something wonderful
for the sleepwalkers who have so much faith
in their legs, so much faith in the invisible

arrow carved into the carpet, the worn path
that leads to the stairs instead of the window,
the gaping doorway instead of the seamless mirror.

I love the way that sleepwalkers are willing
to step out of their bodies into the night,
to raise their arms and welcome the darkness,

palming the blank spaces, touching everything.
Always they return home safely, like blind men
who know it is morning by feeling shadows.

And always they wake up as themselves again.
That's why I want to say something astonishing
like: Our hearts are leaving our bodies.

Our hearts are thirsty black handkerchiefs
flying through the trees at night, soaking up
the darkest beams of moonlight, the music

of owls, the motion of wind-torn branches.
And now our hearts are thick black fists
flying back to the glove of our chests.

We have to learn to trust our hearts like that.
We have to learn the desperate faith of sleep-
walkers who rise out of their calm beds

and walk through the skin of another life.
We have to drink the stupefying cup of darkness
and wake up to ourselves, nourished and surprised.

I Really Want to Write

I really want to write.
For years
I’ve been saying,
I really want to write.”

I want more time,
more inspiration,
more motivation.

That’s what I’ve been saying.

I haven’t made the time,
have ignored inspiration,
and avoided motivation.

Perhaps it requires self-denial,
depravation,
pain,
sorrow, or
commitment.

Maybe I don’t want to write.

It Is All In The Mind If We Really Want To Find

do not admire me for my courage
not saving myself
always making others live
find their own homes
making them have wings
so they can all fly again
and find their hidden
islands of
paradise

these are all but the workings
of my mind
realities that i still want to have
something
yet to come true

but for the meantime bear with me
you badly need all these too
mind you baby
it is all in the mind
only if we really want to find

Say You Really Want Me

Written by d. sembello, d. rudolph & d. spencer jr.
Why you always got to be so cool
And why I always got to play your fool
You dont really know what lifes about
Baby come and let your feelings out
Say you really want me
Dont keep it to yourself
Say you really need me
Just me and no one else
Say you really love me
Ooh let me know its true
Say you really want me
The way that I want you tonight
You dont know a thing about romance
Deep inside youre scared to take the chance
cos love like this may never come again
Make your move or Ill be in the wind
I need somebody through the thick and the thin
cos I know the problems of today
The time is over now for playing those games
Lets take it all the way

Do You Really Want Money?

Do you really want money?
Or would you rather have these:
Good health in your family
And restful sleep with peace.

A simple home with love
Meals shared with lots of laughter
Real wealth from God above
Sweet memories to remember.

By your side a true friend,
And a dear loved one to hold,
Answers to prayers sent,
Warm hugs when you are cold.

Songs of birds to wake you
A gentle breeze that blows
Thanks for little things you do
And praise for the good you show.

Enough to pay your bills
No worries for tomorrow
Freedom from hurts and ills
And comfort for all your sorrow.

Simple things can be had
You will not need a lot of money
Too much of it can make one sad
Discontented and so lonely.

All I Really Want To Do

I aint lookin to compete with you,
Beat or cheat or mistreat you,
Simplify you, classify you,
Deny, defy or crucify you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
No, and I aint lookin to fight with you,
Frighten you or tighten you,
Drag you down or drain you down,
Chain you down or bring you down.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I aint lookin to block you up
Shock or knock or lock you up,
Analyze you, categorize you,
Finalize you or advertise you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I dont want to straight-face you,
Race or chase you, track or trace you,
Or disgrace you or displace you,
Or define you or confine you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I dont want to meet your kin,
Make you spin or do you in,
Or select you or dissect you,
Or inspect you or reject you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I dont want to fake you out,
Take or shake or forsake you out,
I aint lookin for you to feel like me,
See like me or be like me.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I Dont Really Want You

Dennis linde
We were going together for a long long time and it breaks my heart girl
To see you walking with some other guy
I been sitting alone here with a worried head
Ive been talking to some downtown girls but dont believe the things that I have said
Cause girl dont you know I only tried to hide the pain when I said
I dont really love you, I dont really want you,
I dont want to have you, I dont really love you
Now were hitting the daylight, morning looking sad
Never knew a guy could feel as lonely as Im feelin oh so bad
Time is going slowly dragging like a weight
Like to say Im sorry but deep down in my heart its just too late
Cause girl dont you know I only tried to hide the pain when I said
I dont really want you, I dont really need you,
I dont want to have you, I dont really love you
We were going together for a long long time
And it breaks my heart girl to see you walking with some other guy
Still I keep on trying lonely as Ive been
Got to get your sweet, sweet smile to get that lovin feeling back again
Cause girl dont you know I only tried to hide the pain when I said
I dont really want you, I dont really need you, I dont want to have you,
I dont really love you, I dont really want you I dont really need you,
I dont want to have you, I dont really love you

For The Want Of Time

I never excuse for the want of time
Even though it may very important and prime
I love some of my friends and relatives
As they are close and very subjective

I may never find time in whole life
As husband has no spare time for wife
Yet something is to be talked about
Else you face the possible rout

How can I say you keep off?
How can I that rude and rough?
Everybody is built of some fine stuff
No amount of arguments can help not even bluff

I know only mortals may remain
I may prefer to be excluded in my domain
But at what cost I enjoy the fame?
What is there good in the name?

Do we thing work may end so soon?
The sun may not have afternoon
The evening may not set in
The birds may not return and sing

I am apologetic to those friends
Do not take it to illogical end
It may be ridicule to end in clever manner
Yet the fact may be known sooner

I would love rather to hear you gently
Those words not heard before silently
How long I may have to face dry spell?
Nothing at present seems going well

I would never question brilliant face off
I have no strength to argue or scoff
Yet it pains from within not to press
Instead prefer isolation and dearly miss

No one may have time to care for
No one may even prefer to be very sure
As it will not take them to reality
Because they want to maintain good quality

I would love to talk at length
With any one who cares and match with strength
It is not the intelligence that matters most
The relation is pushed aside and remains frost

It is very hard to go on for sentiments
You may have sugar coated comments
That may not cut much deep with the ice
As it does not really match with the promises

I hope relations are weighed in any terms
It adds to some worry and concerns
Nothing goes off well with nice duration
It gives room for deterioration with some indication

I end up by saying welcome all
I regret saying it without any standard fall
I love all despite my tight schedule
I want it to be durable and ideal module

I may perish along with my brethren
It may then be smooth and happy turn
I shall bid good bye despite having no time
I shall regret only “No time” but as no crime

The ancient Greece was a Utopia,
Rich in poetry, drama, philosophy,
Architecture and democracy but
Poor in value for the people who were

Hmmm Working For The Money?

i like it this way
the way
i want things
come and go
and

i do not really
work for the
money but

for a certain
calling
a mission
a vocation
an apostolate
a profession

and it goes
this way, God provides

and the money now
is working for me.

If You Want To Write A Poem For Me

IF YOU WANT TO WRITE A POEM FOR ME

If you want to write a poem for me
It must go beyond poetry-

I do not know if you can do that
I am not sure I am capable of perceiving it-

Perhaps I am already too old
And hearing a truly new poem
Is something that is left for others-

Perhaps too all I ever wanted after all
Is to hear my own poem-

And perhaps listening to you
Even if your poem is real
Will be far too much for me.
