Les Nouveaux Riches

Ou sont les nouveaux riches...nous sommes les nouveaux riches
Wie haben alle berlistet
Haben es dieser welt gezeigt
Kennen jedes fr und alles wider
Under appeal ist weltverzweigt
Brauchen keine sprache
Kennen unsere welt
Haben eines gemeinsam
Wir haben geld, und
Deine gigolos
Meine maitressen
Haben gemeinsam
Keine interessen
Wenn du sagst ich bin dein stereotyp
Mit haut und haar und car
Ist mir klar wir brauchen keine worte
Wir zahlen uns bar
Zwischen weltbild und success
Fahren wir einen zug, den zeitgeistexpress
Nach alcapulco, monaco, der swiss
Wir, die neuen reichen
Les nouveaux riches
Oh oh oh you are one of the nouveaux riches
Oh oh oh making money is all you preach
Oh oh oh take a look at the nouveaux riches
Ich kenne meine partner, deine nicht
Die quintessenz der sprache ist gift
Es gibt bessere und es gibt mich
Du liebst das leben
Ich liebe dich
Ein überflieger wär ich gerne
Ein reisender der zeit
Und wann immer du gehen möchtest, komm
Ich bin bereit
Der argonaut Im kosmokrator kennt horizonter nicht
Er fliegt und fliegt
Er fliegt iss weisse licht
Nicht nach de janeiro
Und nicht nach nice
Nicht als armer reicher
Als nouveaux riches
Oh oh oh you are one of the nouveaux riches
Oh oh oh making money is all you preach
Oh oh oh take a look at the nouveaux riches
Where do you go when the moneys gone
Where do you go when youre all alone
Where do you go when theres no one there
Sell your soul

The Goods Gone

I know when Ive had enough
When I think your love is rough
Chorus:
The goods gone
The goods gone
The goods gone
The goods gone
The goods gone out of our love
I know its wrong
We should enjoy it, but
The goods gone
The goods gone
Once we used to get along
Now, each time we kiss, its wrong
(chorus)
Now it aint no fun
And the goods gone now
We used to love as one
But we have forgotten now
I know when Ive had enough
When I think your love is rough
(chorus)
Its gone forever

Hudibras: Part 3 - Canto I

THE ARGUMENT

The Knight and Squire resolve, at once,
The one the other to renounce.
They both approach the Lady's Bower;
The Squire t'inform, the Knight to woo her.
She treats them with a Masquerade,
By Furies and Hobgoblins made;
From which the Squire conveys the Knight,
And steals him from himself, by Night.

'Tis true, no lover has that pow'r
T' enforce a desperate amour,
As he that has two strings t' his bow,
And burns for love and money too;
For then he's brave and resolute,
Disdains to render in his suit,
Has all his flames and raptures double,
And hangs or drowns with half the trouble,
While those who sillily pursue,
The simple, downright way, and true,
Make as unlucky applications,
And steer against the stream their passions.
Some forge their mistresses of stars,
And when the ladies prove averse,
And more untoward to be won
Than by CALIGULA the Moon,
Cry out upon the stars, for doing
Ill offices to cross their wooing;
When only by themselves they're hindred,
For trusting those they made her kindred;
And still, the harsher and hide-bounder
The damsels prove, become the fonder.
For what mad lover ever dy'd
To gain a soft and gentle bride?
Or for a lady tender-hearted,
In purling streams or hemp departed?
Leap'd headlong int' Elysium,
Through th' windows of a dazzling room?
But for some cross, ill-natur'd dame,
The am'rous fly burnt in his flame.
This to the Knight could be no news,
With all mankind so much in use;
Who therefore took the wiser course,
To make the most of his amours,
Resolv'd to try all sorts of ways,
As follows in due time and place

No sooner was the bloody fight,
Between the Wizard, and the Knight,

Catch 22

If I seem nervous will you show me what to do
And does the world deserve us, application rushing through
A long time coming, yes it's been a long time coming
And my loving you is a place where I surrender
In my heart it's not hard to do
And all my worldly goods I give to you
We close our eyes and chase away the sorry things
You make it easy for me life is but a dream
Cried on your shoulder
Dove into the great blue yonder
And my loving you is a place where I surrender
Touch my heart, it's not hard to do
And all my worldly goods I give to you
Loving you, is a place where I surrender
In my heart
No catch twenty-two
And all my worldly goods I give to you
No misdemeanor, theres a ring upon my finger
And my loving you is a place where I surrender
In my heart
It's not hard to do
And all my worldly goods I give to you
Loving you, is a place where I surrender
Touch my heart
No catch 22
And all my worldly goods I give to you
Loving you is a place where I surrender
In my heart
It's not hard to do
And all my worldly goods I give to you.

What The Deal

Yeah yeah ohh ooehhh

[Verse One] - [Shawn ]
Incredible...
From your legs up to your mouth you look so edible
Don't have to speak your spirit it's just legible
And when you lick your lips I swear girl I go medical
Let the mystery unfold

[Chorus: ]
What the deal mommy
Can you make a deal
Let me show you mommy
That my love is for real
Got the goods baby
Make you wanna reveal your heart (yeahey yeahey)
So let me feel mommy
'Cause I got what you need
Girl I want you (yeaheeyhh yeaheeyhh)
Really close to me
Girl I promise
We will never be apart

[Verse Two] - [Nate ]
Naaauuhhh....
Paradise
Tonight I'll take you there
Lay back and close your eyes
I'll make this loving hurt so good
But you won't wanna cry
So let me put my love inside you
Make you tremble ever so
Gently baby don't let go

[Chorus ]
I want you feel mommy
Can you make the deal (uuohhh)
Let me show mommy
That my love is for real (uuohhh)
Got the goods baby (...yeaahh)
Make you wanna reveal your heart (make you wanna reveal your heart...)
So let me feel mommy
'Cause I got what you need
Girl I want you (girl I want you)
Really close to me (so bad...)
Girl I promise (ohh yeah)
We will never be apart (uuueeeyhhh...)
I want you feel mommy
Can you make the deal (ooehhh)

Delivering The Goods

Feeling like were, ready to kick tonight
No hesitating, my bodies aching
Looking for some action, satisfaction all right
Charging, vein faced, as active as one-hundred solid proof
Mega town, leviathan, were ready to hit the roof
You better watch out and hold on tight
Were heading your way like dynamite
Delivering the goods
Delivering the goods
Shake down, rock em boys, crack that whip strap mean
Pulse rave, air waves, battle lies in every place weve been
Stealing your hearts all across the land
Hot blood doing good, were going to load you with our brand
You better watch out and hold on tight
Were heading your way like dynamite
Delivering the goods
Yeah, delivering the goods
Have your way
Stealing your hearts
Well we dont pull no punches, we aim where the crunch is
The bound to do most damage to your brain
If youre looking for it mellow
Youre nothing more than yellow
Gonna do it again and again
Well beat you to submission
So you might as well surrender
You do gotta learn your lesson
cause there aint nobody here to defend your heart
Faster, higher
til it seems that were gonna break
Oh shootin further, giving more than youre ever gonna take
Weaving with your heads
Crushed out on the floor
Begging for mercy
Be careful or well do it some more
You better watch out and hold on tight
Were heading your way like dynamite
Delivering the goods
Delivering the goods

Hudibras: Part 3 - Canto III

THE ARGUMENT

The Knight and squire's prodigious Flight
To quit th' inchanted Bow'r by Night.
He plods to turn his amorous Suit
T' a Plea in Law, and prosecute
Repairs to Counsel, to advise
'Bout managing the Enterprise;
But first resolves to try by Letter,
And one more fair Address, to get her.

WHO wou'd believe what strange bugbears
Mankind creates itself of fears
That spring like fern, that insect weed,
Equivocally, without seed;
And have no possible foundation,
But merely in th' imagination;
And yet can do more dreadful feats
Than hags, with all their imps and teats
Make more bewitch and haunt themselves
Than all their nurseries of elves?
For fear does things so like a witch,
'Tis hard t' unriddle which is which:
Sets up Communities of senses,
To chop and change intelligences;
As Rosicrucian virtuosos
Can see with ears, and hear with noses;
And when they neither see nor hear,
Have more than both supply'd by fear
That makes 'em in the dark see visions,
And hag themselves with apparitions;
And when their eyes discover least,
Discern the subtlest objects best
Do things not contrary, alone,
To th' course of nature, but its own;
The courage of the bravest daunt,
And turn poltroons as valiant:
For men as resolute appear
With too much as too little fear
And when they're out of hopes of flying,
Will run away from death by dying;
Or turn again to stand it out,
And those they fled, like lions, rout.

This HUDIBRAS had prov'd too true,
Who, by the furies left perdue,
And haunted with detachments, sent
From Marshal Legion's regiment,
Was by a fiend, as counterfeit,
Reliev'd and rescu'd with a cheat;

Les Nouveaux Riches

I could see that the sun it was deadly
Shes putting her hand in the fire
Her velvety skin it was cooking
Lily white, lily white turning to raspberry
But when she slips in between the sheets tonight
The memory will linger and burn
And when she look at the face in the mirror
What a terrible sight
Lily white turning to raspberry
(when it burns you rub on the lotion
If it stings you sit in the ocean, oh no)
Les nouveaux riches, when they
Tres fatigue they fly, off to the sunshine
They set jet away, they dont
Get a kick, they dont get a buzz man
They, talk in circles, they not for us oh
Les nouveaux riches, when they
Tres fatigue they fly, off to the ocean
They hot foot away, they dont
Get a buzz, they dont get a kick
Man they, talk in circles
They must be thick, a say tick dem
A tick tick tick-a
I could see that the guys were a hassle
She tried to handle them cool
But her interbreeding was showing
Tumbling out on the banks of the old
Swimming pool, oh oh oh
So she buried her fears in a bottle
The juices beginning to flow
But her stiff upper lip it was trembling
Tripping her up, her words were beginning to roll
Hush your mouth, you cant fool the natives
Telegraph, theys going to relay it, oh no
Les nouveaux riches, when they
Tres fatigue they fly, off to the sunshine
They set jet away, they dont
Get a kick, they dont get a buzz man
They, talk in circles, they not for us oh
Les nouveaux riches, when they
Tres fatigue they fly, off to the ocean
They hot foot away, they dont
Get a buzz, they dont get a kick
Man they, talk in circles
They must be thick, a say tick dem
A tick tick tick-a
I remember the tears in her eyes
She tried to hide them away
But her time it was going too quickly
Just another few days, shell soon be flying away

Rich Girl

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na x2
If I was a rich girl na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
See, I'd have all the money in the world
If I was a wealthy girl
No man could test me
Impress me
My cash flow would never ever end
Cause I'd have all the money in the world
If I was a wealthy girl
Think what that money could bring
I'd buy everything
Clean out Vivienne Westwood
In my Galliano gown
No, wouldn't just have one hood
A Hollywood mansion if I could
Please book me first-class to my fancy house in London town
All the riches baby, won't mean anything
All the riches baby, won't bring what your love can bring
All the riches baby, won't mean anything
Don't need no other baby
Your lovin' is better than gold
And I know
If I was rich girl na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
See, I'd have all the money in the world
If I was a wealthy girl
No man could test me
Impress me
My cash flow would never ever end
Cause I'd have all the money in the world
If I was a wealthy girl
I'd get me four Harajuku girls too (uh huh)
Inspire me and they'd come to my rescue
I'd dress them wicked
I'd give them names (yeah)
Love, Angel, Music, Baby
Hurry up and come and save me
All the riches baby, won't mean anything
All the riches baby, won't bring what your love can bring
All the riches baby, won't mean anything
Don't need no other baby
Your lovin' is better than gold
And I know
[Eve]
Come together all over the world
From the hoods in Japan
Harajuku girls
What, It's all love
What, Give it up
What (shouldn't matter [4x])

Paradise Regained

THE FIRST BOOK

I, WHO erewhile the happy Garden sung
By one man's disobedience lost, now sing
Recovered Paradise to all mankind,
By one man's firm obedience fully tried
Through all temptation, and the Tempter foiled
In all his wiles, defeated and repulsed,
And Eden raised in the waste Wilderness.
Thou Spirit, who led'st this glorious Eremite
Into the desert, his victorious field
Against the spiritual foe, and brought'st him thence 10
By proof the undoubted Son of God, inspire,
As thou art wont, my prompted song, else mute,
And bear through highth or depth of Nature's bounds,
With prosperous wing full summed, to tell of deeds
Above heroic, though in secret done,
And unrecorded left through many an age:
Worthy to have not remained so long unsung.
Now had the great Proclaimer, with a voice
More awful than the sound of trumpet, cried
Repentance, and Heaven's kingdom nigh at hand 20
To all baptized. To his great baptism flocked
With awe the regions round, and with them came
From Nazareth the son of Joseph deemed
To the flood Jordan--came as then obscure,
Unmarked, unknown. But him the Baptist soon
Descried, divinely warned, and witness bore
As to his worthier, and would have resigned
To him his heavenly office. Nor was long
His witness unconfirmed: on him baptized
Heaven opened, and in likeness of a Dove 30
The Spirit descended, while the Father's voice
From Heaven pronounced him his beloved Son.
That heard the Adversary, who, roving still
About the world, at that assembly famed
Would not be last, and, with the voice divine
Nigh thunder-struck, the exalted man to whom
Such high attest was given a while surveyed
With wonder; then, with envy fraught and rage,
Flies to his place, nor rests, but in mid air
To council summons all his mighty Peers, 40
Within thick clouds and dark tenfold involved,
A gloomy consistory; and them amidst,
With looks aghast and sad, he thus bespake:--
"O ancient Powers of Air and this wide World
(For much more willingly I mention Air,
This our old conquest, than remember Hell,
Our hated habitation), well ye know
How many ages, as the years of men,

Paradise Regained: The Second Book

Meanwhile the new-baptized, who yet remained
At Jordan with the Baptist, and had seen
Him whom they heard so late expressly called
Jesus Messiah, Son of God, declared,
And on that high authority had believed,
And with him talked, and with him lodged—I mean
Andrew and Simon, famous after known,
With others, though in Holy Writ not named—
Now missing him, their joy so lately found,
So lately found and so abruptly gone,
Began to doubt, and doubted many days,
And, as the days increased, increased their doubt.
Sometimes they thought he might be only shewn,
And for a time caught up to God, as once
Moses was in the Mount and missing long,
And the great Thisbite, who on fiery wheels
Rode up to Heaven, yet once again to come.
Therefore, as those young prophets then with care
Sought lost Eliah, so in each place these
Nigh to Bethabara—in Jericho
The city of palms, AEnon, and Salem old,
Machaerus, and each town or city walled
On this side the broad lake Genezaret,
Or in Peraea—but returned in vain.
Then on the bank of Jordan, by a creek,
Where winds with reeds and osiers whispering play,
Plain fishermen (no greater men them call),
Close in a cottage low together got,
Their unexpected loss and plaints outbreathed:—
"Alas, from what high hope to what relapse
Unlooked for are we fallen! Our eyes beheld
Messiah certainly now come, so long
Expected of our fathers; we have heard
His words, his wisdom full of grace and truth.
'Now, now, for sure, deliverance is at hand;
The kingdom shall to Israel be restored:'
Thus we rejoiced, but soon our joy is turned
Into perplexity and new amaze.
For whither is he gone? what accident
Hath rapt him from us? will he now retire
After appearance, and again prolong
Our expectation? God of Israel,
Send thy Messiah forth; the time is come.
Behold the kings of the earth, how they oppress
Thy Chosen, to what highth their power unjust
They have exalted, and behind them cast
All fear of Thee; arise, and vindicate
Thy glory; free thy people from their yoke!
But let us wait; thus far He hath performed—
Sent his Anointed, and to us revealed him

The Stones of Gosh

Now, here is a tale of the Glugs of Gosh,
In the end of the year umteen;
Of the Glugs of Gosh and their great King Splosh,
And Tush, his virtuous Queen.
And here is a tale of the Oglike Ogs,
In their neighbouring land of Podge;
Of their sayings and doings and plottings and brewings,
And something about Sir Stodge.
Wise to profundity,
Stout to rotundity,
That was the Knight Sir Stodge.

Oh, the King was rich, and the Queen was fair,
And they made a very respectable pair.
And whenever a Glug in that peaceful land,
Did anything no one could understand
The Knight, Sir Stodge, he looked in a book,
And charged that Glug with a crime called Crook.
And the great Judge Fudge, who wore for a hat
The skin of a female tortoise-shell cat,
He fined that Glug for his actions rash,
And frequently asked to be paid in cash.
Then every Glug went home to rest
With his head in a bag and his toes to the west;
For they knew it was best,
Since their grandpas slept with their toes to the west.

But all of the tale that is so far told
Has nothing whatever to do
With the Ogs of Podge, and their crafty dodge,
And the trade in pickles and glue.
To trade with the Glugs came the Ogs to Gosh,
And they said in the mildest of tones,
'We'll sell you pianers and pickels and spanners
For seventeen shiploads of stones
Smooth 'uns or nobbly 'uns,
Firm 'uns or wobbly 'uns,
All that we ask is stones.'

And the King said, 'What?' and the Queen said, 'Why,
That is awfully cheap to the things I buy!
That grocer of ours in the light brown hat
Asks two-and-eleven for pickles like that!'
But a Glug stood up with a wart on his nose,
And he cried, 'Your Majesties! Ogs is foes!'
But the Glugs cried, 'Peace! Will you hold your jaw!
How did our grandpas fashion the law?'
Said the Knight, Sir Stodge, as he opened a book,
'If the goods were cheap then the goods they took.'
So they fined the Glug with the wart on his nose

0038 Why I'm ashamed of being British

It was so easy being a British child
in the 1930s:
everything was – or so it seems to memory’s
selective mind - so ordered:
how old was I, when I stopped
raising my school cap
(‘Don’t just touch it, Michael;
lift it! ’) to, not just staff at school,
but anyone to whom my parents talked
or who had talked (‘My, hasn’t he grown! ’
as if this was some personal achievement) to me,
or more likely, over my head, as I
shifted from foot to foot,
trapped in a grown-up world
of politenesses; which however
my mother loved and rightly
as one now raised in her station
from being polite to customers
in grandma’s terrace front-window shop
where homemade cooking was the income
now that the cotton dust had got to grandpa's lungs;
but now the wife of a man retired
at thirty-eight, stone-deaf…

The history books at school were slender – since
we’d won every war – or if some foreigners thought
we hadn’t, it had all the same brought out great courage,
incredible bravery which was a lesson to us all,
fortitude and leadership and deeds
‘ surpassing the call of duty’. We’d even
won wars in places which technically weren’t ours,
called The Empire; over which we ruled
because we did it better than the natives;
because we were born to rule..

And we were taught by haunted heroes who’d fought
in the war to end all wars – the PT instructor
had a face like camouflage, white, greenish, brown and red,
where he’d been mustard-gassed; our heroes
were still close to us, although
they didn’t talk about it much. That was
another lesson in how to be British.

Geography was happy natives
(only the National Geographic Magazine
photographed their tits, and then only if brown)
moving export crops, balancing trade
and the occasional water-pot – which was always full.
And the sun never set on those red bits on the map
which were the British Empire…

Jason & The Argonauts

(andy partridge)
There may be no golden fleece,
But human riches Ill release
Oh, my head is spinning like the world and its filled with beasts Ive seen,
Let me put my bag down and Ill tell you it all right from the start,
Like the scarlet woman who would pick on the boys she thought were green,
And the two faced man who made a hobby of breaking his wifes heart.
Seems the more I travel,
From the foam to gravel,
As the nets unravel,
All exotic fish I find like jason and the argonauts
There may be no golden fleece,
But human riches Ill release
I was in a land where men force women to hide their facial features,
And here in the west its just the same but theyre using make-up veils.
Ive seen acts of every shade of terrible crime from man-like creatures,
And Ive had the breath of liars blowing me off course in my sails.
Seems the more I travel,
From the foam to gravel,
As the nets unravel,
All exotic fish I find like jason and the argonauts
There may be no golden fleece,
But human riches Ill release.
I have watched the manimals go by
Buying shoes, buying sweets, buying knives.
I have watched the manimals and cried
Buying time, buying ends to other peoples lives.
Jason and the argonauts
There may be no golden fleece,
But human riches Ill release.
Jason and the argonauts
There may be no golden fleece,
But human riches Ill release.

thy great deity is founded, and thou makest righteous his life, valiant, warrior, who in the service of Assur his Lord hath proceeded, and among the Kings

of the four regions who has not his fellow, a Prince for admiration, not sparing opponents, mighty leader, who an equal

has not, a Prince reducing to order his disobedient ones, who has subdued whole multitudes of men, a strong worker, treading down

the heads of his enemies, trampling on all foes, crushing assemblages of rebels, who in the service of the great gods his Lords

marched vigorously and the lands of all of them his hand captured, caused the forests of all of them to fall, and received their tribute, taking

securities, establishing laws over all lands, when Assur the Lord who proclaims my name and augments my Royalty

laid hold upon his invincible power for the forces of my Lordship, for Assur-nasir-pal, glorious Prince, worshipper of the great gods

the generous, the great, the powerful, acquirer of cities and forests and the territory of all of them, King of Lords, destroying the wicked, strengthening

the peaceful, not sparing opponents, a Prince of firm will(?) one who combats oppression, Lord of all Kings,

Lord of Lords, the acknowledged, King of Kings, seated gloriously, the renown of Ninip the warrior, worshipper of the great gods, prolonging the benefits (conferred by) his fathers:

a Prince who in the service of Assur and the Sun-god, the gods in whom he trusted, royally marched to turbulent lands, and Kings who had rebelled against him

[he cut off like grass, all their lands to his feet he subjected, restorer of the worship of the goddesses and that of the great gods,

Chief unwavering, who for the guidance of the heads (and) elders of his land is a steadfast guardian, the work of whose hands and

the gift of whose finger the great gods of heaven and earth have exalted, and his steps over rulers have they established forever;

A Better Person

MATERIAL RICHES MAKETH NOT THEE A BETTER PERSON,
MATERIAL RICHES MAYEST GIVE THEE QUALITY WINE,
MATERIAL RICHES MAYEST ACQUIRE FOR THEE, CHOICE VINTAGES,
MATERIAL RICHES MAYEST GIVE TO THEE, RICH AND SILKY CLOTHES,
INDEED, IT MAY GIVE THEE A COMFORTABLE ABODES AND LIFE,

INDEED, IT MAY GIVE TO THEE, ABUNDANCE IN GOLD, SILVER AND DIAMONDS
BUT MATERIAL RICHES DOST NOT MAKE A BETTER BEING OUT OF THEE,
LO, I TELL THEE THIS,
YOU IT IS, THAT CAN MAKE THYSELF A BETTER PERSON,
YES, A BETTER PERSON OF WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING,
YOU ALONE CAN SAY TO THYSELF, THIS IS GOOD AND THIS IS BAD,
YOU ALONE CAN CHOOSE TO BE A BETTER PERSON,
YES, YOU ALONE HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHICH IS GOOD FOR THEE AND WHAT IS BAD FOR THEE,
THUS, YOU ALONE CAN MAKE THY WAY BETTER,
I AM A BETTER PERSON, BECAUSE I CHOSE TO BE ONE

Whats Good - The Thesis

Lifes like a mayonnaise soda
And lifes like space without room
And lifes like bacon and ice cream
Thats what lifes like without you
Lifes like forever becoming
But lifes forever dealing in hurt
Now lifes like death without living
Thats what lifes like without you
Lifes like sanskrit read to a pony
I see you in my minds eye strangling on your tongue
Whats good is knowing such devotion
Ive been around - I know what makes things run
What good is seeing eye chocolate
What goods a computerized nose
And what good was cancer in april
Why no good - no good at all
What goods a war without killing
What good is rain that falls up
What goods a disease that wont hurt you
Why no good, I guess, no good at all
What good are these thoughts that Im thinking
It must be better not to be thinking at all
A styrofoam lover with emotions of concrete
No not much, not much at all
Whats good is life without living
What goods this lion that barks
You loved a life others throw away nightly
Its not fair, not fair at all
Whats good?
Oh, baby, whats good?
Whats good?
Whats good? not much at all
Hey, baby, whats good? (whats good? )
Whats good? (whats good? )
Whats good? (whats good? ) not much at all
Whats good? (whats good? )
Whats good? (lifes good)
Lifes good (lifes good)
Whats good? (lifes good) but not fair at all

The Defence

Not guilty, yer Honers! I talks to yer straight!
An' I calls it a pretty crook game
An' an 'og of a thing, if the coppers should bring
Such dishonor as this on me name
On me name that 'as stood fer up'oldin' the good!
It's enough to make any bloke weep!
An' the goods as they says I received - spare me days!
Don't I tell yer I bought 'em dirt cheap!

Yes, I bought 'em dirt cheap; an' I says to the Bench,
As a man 'oo acts honest an' square,
That me solid defence is poun's, shillin's an' pence,
An' I arsts yer to deal with me fair.
Fer it's more than a joke when a square-livin' bloke
Is 'ad up fer committin' a crime;
Fer the JOHN, 'ere, 'e swears to the goods, an' declares
As I knoo they was pinched at the time.

But, gentlemen, listen, I bought 'em dirt cheap!
As the bloke 'ere, who sold 'em kin swear.
But they say 'e was crook, an' the goods that 'e took
Wasn't got, so to speak, on the square.
Well, per'aps that's all true, an' they ses that I knoo
They wus pinched when I made 'im the bid.
It 'ud be a fair sin fer to miss that chuck in;
So I arsts: Wot's the odds if I did?

'Ere's the Cop ses I'm charged with receivin' the goods,
As I bloomin' well knoo to be stole;
But then that isn't stealin' meself, an' I feel
As I orn't to be in this 'ole.
Fer I never stole things in me life, an' I brings
Twenty witnesses 'ere fer to say
That in all er me days I 'ave allus earned praise
Fer up'oldin' the straight, honest way.

Yus, I allus 'ave preached that to steal wus a sin,
An' I never pinched things in me life;
An' I brings up me kids as strict honesty bids,
An' I gotter respectable wife.
I am known in our street as a man 'ard to beat
At comdemnin' all thievin' an' crime;
An' there's clergymen 'ere as is ready to clear
Up me character every time.
