The Hunting of the Snark: An Agony in Eight Fits

Fit the First.
THE LANDING

"Just the place for a Snark!" the Bellman cried,
As he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on the top of the tide

By a finger entwined in his hair.
"Just the place for a Snark! I have said it twice:
That alone should encourage the crew.
Just the place for a Snark! I have said it thrice:

What I tell you three times is true."
The crew was complete: it included a Boots—
A maker of Bonnets and Hoods—
A Barrister, brought to arrange their disputes—

And a Broker, to value their goods.
A Billiard-marker, whose skill was immense,
Might perhaps have won more than his share—
But a Banker, engaged at enormous expense,

Had the whole of their cash in his care.
There was also a Beaver, that paced on the deck,
Or would sit making lace in the bow:
And had often (the Bellman said) saved them from wreck,

Though none of the sailors knew how.
There was one who was famed for the number of things
He forgot when he entered the ship:
His umbrella, his watch, all his jewels and rings,

And the clothes he had bought for the trip.
He had forty-two boxes, all carefully packed,
With his name painted clearly on each:
But, since he omitted to mention the fact,
They were all left behind on the beach.

The loss of his clothes hardly mattered, because
He had seven coats on when he came,
With three pairs of boots—but the worst of it was,
He had wholly forgotten his name.

He would answer to "Hi!" or to any loud cry,
Such as "Fry me!" or "Fritter my wig!"
To "What-you-may-call-um!" or "What-was-his-name!"
But especially "Thing-um-a-jig!"

While, for those who preferred a more forcible word,
He had different names from these:

Constantly

All day Im walking in a dream
I think about you constantly
Just like an ever flowing stream
Your memory haunts me constantly
Shadows fall and I try to drive you from my mind
So youre no longer near to me
But my heart sees you there with me
Every sunset you share with me
The rain that patterns throu the tree reminds
Me of you constantly
Your name is whispered by the breeze and love birds
Bring your song to me
Just as same as each star keeps burning
In the sky your flame will stay a flame in me
A flame that burns so bright
Not only throu the night
But constantly
Thro we may be_apart
Youre constantly deep in my heart

Frequently the wood are pink

6

Frequently the wood are pink—
Frequently are brown.
Frequently the hills undress
Behind my native town.
Oft a head is crested
I was wont to see—
And as oft a cranny
Where it used to be—
And the Earth— they tell me—
On its Axis turned!
Wonderful Rotation!
By but twelve performed!

Oxymoron

Oxymoron:
fresh fish

*********

JBO:

'The beach at Sanibel... an Arlington Cemetery of shells.'
*
Every suffocated or strangled fish is first given
waterboarding sensations.
*
Fishes more frequently than
mammals or birds are cut open
alive, while their eyes watch
the knifing of others and their
gills struggle for absent air.

Fish cannot scream.
Greed for suffocated fish flesh causes seals to be clubbed in Canada, Norway, S Africa etc., dolphins to be knifed in Japan, whales to be murdered by
Norwegian Japanese Icelandic and American Inuit fishermen, bears
to be murdered in Alaska, untold thousands of fishermen to
be lost in tsunamis,700 Bangladesh fishermen lost in just 1 storm, Thai fishermen working for slave wages, tens of millions around
the world to die of stomach cancer, food poisoning etc.**

What's in fish? unreported Mad Fish
Disease, nuclear toxins a million
times more concentrated than in
sea water, AIDS from unprocessed
human waste dumped into
the oceans, hepatitis, anaphylactic shock, ecoli,
and other food poisoning,
throat, stomach and other cancers,
mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, pbb's, pcb's, thousands
of carcinogenic industrial waste products, and heavy metal sired
brain damage, pfiesteria (red tide) which poisons the fishes

FISH CAN'T SCREAM, FISH TOXINS, FISH STORIES

Are all anglers stranglers?

Dick Gregory: Eating fish liver oil is like eating the filter out of a car.

Constantly Constantine

Its all a vicious game a tragic joke
A pointless twist of fate
The sun will rise the sun will set
All for its own resplendent sake
But fools like you get mist eyed
As you walk along the strand
You claim your eyes can see eternity
In a single grain of sand
Seeking heaven in the ruins waisting away
Believing life is but a dream
Thats why the world kills you constantly
Constantine
Dont speak to me of love or tenderness
Your notions of romance
The moon will wax the moon will wane
And there are those who would fall into a trance
See the stars in your hallowed sky
A million poets strong
Not a bleeding word is ever heard
And the stars keep shining on
Yet there you sigh all mystified staring at a rose
As if your eyes have really seen
Thats why the world kills you constantly
Constantine
Sooner or later
Youll choose to be smart
Youll see the world for what it is
And not some sacred work of art
Save yourself from certain hell
Keep your head above your tender heart
(your tender heart)
Seeking heaven in the ruins wasting away
Believing life is but a dream
Thats why the world kills you constantly
Constantine
Constantly constantine
Constantine
Its killing you
Its killing me
Its killing you
Oh God its killing me
Constantine

What Child Is This? (feat. The London Symphony Orchestra)

Yesterday the rains came down, there was darkness all around
They told me you had gone to find a new life
But you left no word of where you\\\'d gone, I fell right to the ground
And I needed all the help I could get to set me on my feet again
Water under the bridge carried my pain away from me
He was there trying to love and comfort me
Water under the bridge, I\\\'m amazed at the change in me
I\\\'m growing up, getting stronger constantly
I watched the ever-flowing stream as it washed away my dream
I felt like diving in and taking a ride
But the stranger took me by the hand and held me by his side
When I needed all the help I could get to set me on my feet again
Water under the bridge carried my pain away from me
He was there trying to love and comfort me
Water under the bridge, I\\\'m amazed at the change in me
I\\\'m growing up, getting stronger constantly
When I remember how I cried and how I nearly died
All for a man who had gone to find a new life
Now I can laugh, my friend\\\'s so fine he never seemed to mind
When I needed all the help I could get to set me on my feet again
Water under the bridge carried my pain away from me
He was there trying to love and comfort me
Water under the bridge, I\\\'m amazed at the change in me

Letter To Lucille

Somebody, please, if somebody will
Let them take a letter to my girl, Lucille
Let them tell her, Lord, how I'm missing
her still
I think about her constantly
Somebody, please, if somebody can
Let them take a letter from this
lonely man
All I ask is Lord, make her understand
I'll die if she don't wait for me
I heard a rumor from the guys in Cell A
You've served your time and you are
leaving today
Well, there is something you can do
for me to help your old friend
Help me, please
'Cause I've got seven years in this
old pen
Till I'm home again
Somebody, please, if somebody will
Let them take a letter to my girl, Lucille
Let them tell her, Lord, how I'm missing
her still
I think about her constantly
Somebody, please, if somebody can
Let them take a letter from this
lonely man
All I ask is, Lord, make her understand
I'll die if she don't wait for me
To hear you tell it, you're all innocent men
But I was guilty, and I'd do it all again
Just to hold her for a minute or two
I'd steal a king's crown, yes, I would
If I don't reach that girl some way, I know
There'll be another man around
Somebody, please, if somebody will
Let them take a letter to my girl, Lucille
Let them tell her, Lord, how I'm missing
her still
Because I think about her constantly
Ugh, somebody, please, if somebody can
Let them take a letter from this lonely man
All I ask is, Lord, why don't you make her
understand because
I'll die if she don't wait for me
Oooooh, somebody, please, if somebody will
Let them take a letter to my girl, Lucille
Let them tell her, Lord, how I'm missing
Her still
I think about her constantly............

Winter Born and Live

Some people enter the world
to indigo skies,
the sun beams
on their blessed souls
season after season.
Never a day of
storms or showers form,
in their world
there are no winters.
Their grin comes
without expense,
their soul
without pause flourishes.
Groundhog never appears
to see his shadow,
for spring is
constantly assured.
Nothing did they do
to improve or disparage
their springtime birth.
Their blessed eternal Eastertide
is a purely bestowed.
Any other season
but the consecrated
spring they do not know.

Others enter the world
from inception
blizzards never cease
Hardly a day of a sunny beam
before began sqa ually rage spurned
upon their countenance.
One storm flows
in timely order
after the other,
giving them forever winter,
hail and snow and gales.
Zeus did not curse them
for a deed or word,
but in good fortune
they are not superb.
Though if to see their spirits
you would not presume,
that spring does not show its face
oft to the winter born.
They have a frosty smile still,
upon the winter they do not grieve.

They beam with joy peculiarly
like a summer baby born,

Fit the Second ( Hunting of the Snark )

The Bellman's Speech

The Bellman himself they all praised to the skies--
Such a carriage, such ease and such grace!
Such solemnity, too! One could see he was wise,
The moment one looked in his face!
He had bought a large map representing the sea,
Without the least vestige of land:
And the crew were much pleased when they found it to be
A map they could all understand.

"What's the good of Mercator's North Poles and Equators,
Tropics, Zones, and Meridian Lines?"
So the Bellman would cry: and the crew would reply
"They are merely conventional signs!

"Other maps are such shapes, with their islands and capes!
But we've got our brave Captain to thank"
(So the crew would protest) "that he's bought us the best--
A perfect and absolute blank!"

This was charming, no doubt: but they shortly found out
That the Captain they trusted so well
Had only one notion for crossing the ocean
And that was to tingle his bell.

He was thoughtful and grave--but the orders he gave
Were enough to bewilder a crew.
When he cried "Steer to starboard, but keep her head larboard!"
What on earth was the helmsman to do?

Then the bowsprit got mixed with the rudder sometimes:
A thing, as the Bellman remarked,
That frequently happens in tropical climes,
When a vessel is, so to speak, "snarked".

But the principal failing occurred in the sailing,
And the Bellman, perplexed and distressed,
Said he had hoped, at least, when the wind blew due East,
That the ship would not travel due West!

But the danger was past--they had landed at last,
With their boxes, portmanteaus, and bags:
Yet at first sight the crew were not pleased with the view
Which consisted of chasms and crags.

The Bellman perceived that their spirits were low,
And repeated in musical tone
Some jokes he had kept for a season of woe--
But the crew would do nothing but groan.

There And Back Again For Jt Ellison

The river flows unhurriedly
on its long journey to the sea
Sometimes flows fast and sometimes slow.
It does not matter really though
.
All rivers will eventually
become part of the great salt sea.
From whence they came as clouds and rain
to which they must return again

The sea and Sun co operate.
Evaporate, precipitate
Recycling water constantly.
All rivers flow into the sea.

Where they evaporate and rise
as water vapour to the skies.
The chill will change its state again
from water vapour into rain.

Which falls upon the earth below
to nourish all the plants that grow
Without the rain then there would be
no rivers flowing to the sea.

The world be a desert place
of growing plants no single trace.
A world of grey and brown and dun
Defeated by the burning sun.

Although the rain can be a curse
no rain at all would be much worse.
Accepting philosophically
the rain must fall and frequently.

Though sometimes inconveniently
Without the rain where would be
Extinct I think without a doubt
I much prefer the rain to drought.

Though it may rain on your parade
and spoil the plans which you have made.
You should be thankful for the rain,
you have small reason to complain.

Nature recycles constantly.
water the prime necessity.
If she did not then we would die
Beneath a blue and cloudless sky.

Pleaser

I'm constantly pleasing everyone but me.
I'm sick of being so unhappy.
I can't do this any longer.
I feel like going under.
I smile when I'm really upset.
I run when out of breath.
I constantly try and make people happy.
But never even think about me.
I don't know why.
All I do alone is cry.
I'm constantly Pleasing everyone but me.
I'm sick of being so unhappy.

Morning Sun

THE MORNING SUN COMES THRU MY WINDOW
ALL NIGHT LONG I HAVE BEEN WAITING
WE WHO ARE CONSTANTLY MOVING
LEAVING PART OF US BEHIND
SHE MOVES ACROSS THE ROOM WITH EASY GRACE
MONA LISA SMILES UP ON HER FACE
I WHO AM COMPLETELY MESMERIZED
BY THE SUNLIGHT IN HER EYES
MORNING SUN COMES THRU MY WINDOWS
ALL NIGHT LONG I HAVE BEEN WAITING
WE WHO ARE CONSTANTLY MOVING
LEAVING PART OF US BEHIND
MOVES ACROSS THE ROOM WITH EASY GRACE

An Electronic Prayer

From beyond a message has come
Slowly the last forever has begun
Turn around its revolution
Divine signs must move with the times
Even so they try to mystify
Communications fading with the past
Were sending a cypher a code to be cracked
By a curious someone we need to attract
Pray for me
(pray for me)
The message endlessly
(the message endlessly)
Repeating constantly
(repeating constantly)
Can anyone hear ?
Pray for me
(pray for me)
Be a part of me
As I disappear
(as I disappear)
This is my plea
Change my life till nothing remains
Let the blood run through my veins again
An immaculate injection, a shot of something new
All out faith we have to replace
We are out of time and out of space
A new beginning in a different world
Sister love extinguish all desire
Never born and never died
Take my words from my heart
Help me make a new start today
(reset my life)
Brother beloved this is my devotion
Everlasting absolute
Give me the strength to see
Believe that youll receive someway
Believe and let us pray
Pray for me
The message endlessly
Repeating constantly
Can anyone hear ?
Pray for me
(pray for me)
Be a part of me
As I disappear
This is my plea
Sister love extinguish all desire
Never born and never died

In The Presence Of

AndersonHoweSquireWhite
September 11, 2001
Deeper than every ocean
Deeper than every river
That's what your presence brings to me
Revealing the words I listen
Seeing you in my silence
Learning I'm with you constantly
As I was before
If we were flowers
We would worship the sun
So why not now?
This high is shining brightly
Brighter than before
As the door was open wide
There inside was a diamond chair
Where I sat when I was young
I wrote down the words
Only when the young at heart
Can enter the real world
This chance I've waited for
For you to see
If I had chances I would spend them with you
To hold you close and let your love surround me
Deeper than before
(Deeper than every ocean)
And I know this love is real
(Deeper than every river)
Realize this is meant to be
That's what your eyes they say to me
You are listening to how I feel
So expectedly
(Brighter than every morning)
From the ocean to the sky
(Beautiful as the sunset)
Every river to the sea
Nature surrounds me constantly
We can hear love constantly
This is for you and me
Turn around and come deeper now
So what happens when I touch you there
You feel the words roll over you
Thinking of the better scenes
The memories
As everybody else just
Hasn't got the time
To help you anymore
'Cause if the reason for
The things that pleasure us
To please ourselves

Melancholy Of Profoundness

A melancholy of profoundness
A mystical sensation of innovation has come over me
It’s the Gaia tree
It gives life to that was once dead
And it’s bringing out the best
All I want is replace the distain, the hate in my heart
With compassion
Help mankind in such a way that’s everlasting
Fearing the repercussions of past actions lies in my way
Waiting anticipating my every movement
So I finally found the courage to repent
Forgiveness is but on the rise
The grey skies are just another disguise
Trust no one
Being constantly numb is done
Over under any way to get through to the other side
Where the sun shines a little brighter
The burdens are getting lighter
Shedding off the layers of what has become my skin
But in truth it’s my demons
For every time I screw up I just walked away
Pretend like everything is okay
Hoping the memories will fade
But instead they turn into jade
A solid stone
Melt my soul
Cause I'm tired venturing this life alone
Help is for the asking to most
But I've been ostrich sized like a ghost
Forever haunting those who disgraced me
Another euphony has come and gone
I have a feeling it won’t be long
Till my sacrifice pays off
It’s a cost I had to pay to keep my head above water
So deep
It’s constantly sucking me in
I 'm drowning in my own self righteous bullshit
Perfect is but a mistake that has yet to be made
So why wait why contemplate or debate
Chances or what it is that makes us
Who we are today will not be the same tomorrow
Welcome to my horror
Welcome to my lack of honor
So cold that I wonder why I'm not already dead
Cause all serenity has driven me to search out an ends to a means
Wash my hands and come clean
I won’t make a plea or disagree
This is an absolute surrender
Of a defender for what was thought right or wrong
Never questioned where my emotions belonged

Bad Behaviour

I'm heading up to London, sat on a train;
The children, sat near to me, are being a pain.
Two are lounged lengthways across the seats,
And constantly pester their mother for sweets.

The girl, sat behind me, keeps on kicking my seat;
Their belongings are strewn around, far from neat.
The boy is so comfy, that he's removed his shoes;
Their behaviour makes me want to blow a fuse!

The boy happily drops sweet wrappers everywhere,
But, about his behaviour, his mother does not care.
Bored, the boy steals his little sister's teddy bear:
About her being upset, he simply does not care.

Now the children are running round and about;
The children, and their mother, constantly shout.
All three children are constantly whinging:
Their behaviour has me inwardly cringing.

On his seat, the boy, aged about eight, is now stood;
Their behaviour is a galaxy away from being good.
I can't believe the mother lets them act this way:
She really needs to keep their behaviour at bay.

This is not how these children should behave:
About their behaviour, I want to rant and rave.
At Clapham Junction, the family leave the train:
I celebrate inside, as they were driving me insane.

A Wreath Of Sonnets For My Darling

I

Outside all the streets are lighted
while you smell red roses in the garden
and it's as if my thoughts linger with you,
at the morning glories trumpeting over the wall,
the windows reflect you in their glare
and you crawl just deeper into my thoughts,
above me stars sparkle, it's as if one is dancing
and I am aware of a secret bond,
I am madly in love with you;
our friendship came suddenly
where two people in the whole universe
are momentarily astounded by each other
and its only moments before you join me,
the doors are closed and locked.

II

The doors are closed and locked
when you come into my life irrevocable
and my world is falling to pieces
but it's as if you give to every day the summer sun,
you change the cool winter rain of months
with a unknown adaptability
and deep in my heart you are the only one;
that makes me happy and sometimes sad,
maybe we knew that difficult days will come,
maybe we had an intuition that moments do decay
but still we are in love with each other,
as two persons finding each other in all of humanity
and it's as if the blessings of God do descend on us,
when the nightly silence lingers.

III

When the nightly silence lingers
I read deep thoughts, your eyes shine
with the brilliance and glittering of rainbows,
they are radiated by a bright pure light,
they lie like two olives totally oval,
when you laugh full of sunshine and you are elated
and still they have got the capacity
to draw all of my thought to you,
when you want to make my whole world wonderful,
as if we are totally exceptional,
and it's as if every bird is calling its mate,
as if the sunrise and the days become more beautiful
