The Tale of Gamelyn

Fitt 1

Give Your Heart To The Hawks

1 he apples hung until a wind at the equinox,

That heaped the beach with black weed, filled the dry grass

Under the old trees with rosy fruit.

In the morning Fayne Fraser gathered the sound ones into a

basket,

The bruised ones into a pan. One place they lay so thickly
She knelt to reach them.

Her husband's brother passing
Along the broken fence of the stubble-field,
His quick brown eyes took in one moving glance
A little gopher-snake at his feet flowing through the stubble
To gain the fence, and Fayne crouched after apples
With her mop of red hair like a glowing coal
Against the shadow in the garden. The small shapely reptile
Flowed into a thicket of dead thistle-stalks
Around a fence-post, but its tail was not hidden.
The young man drew it all out, and as the coil
Whipped over his wrist, smiled at it; he stepped carefully
Across the sag of the wire. When Fayne looked up
His hand was hidden; she looked over her shoulder
And twitched her sunburnt lips from small white teeth
To answer the spark of malice in his eyes, but turned
To the apples, intent again. Michael looked down
At her white neck, rarely touched by the sun,
But now the cinnabar-colored hair fell off from it;
And her shoulders in the light-blue shirt, and long legs like a boy's
Bare-ankled in blue-jean trousers, the country wear;
He stooped quietly and slipped the small cool snake
Up the blue-denim leg. Fayne screamed and writhed,
Clutching her thigh. 'Michael, you beast.' She stood up
And stroked her leg, with little sharp cries, the slender invader
Fell down her ankle.

Fayne snatched for it and missed;

Michael stood by rejoicing, his rather small

Finely cut features in a dance of delight;

Fayne with one sweep flung at his face

All the bruised and half-spoiled apples in the pan,

(vowles, del naja, marshall, thaws, norfolk, locke)
You sure you wanna be with me Ive nothing to give
Dont lie and say this lovins best
Dont leave us in emotional place
Take a walk take a rest now take a rest
I seen ya diggin a hole in ya neighborhood
Youre crazy but youre lazy
No need to live in a lean-to
Your troubles must be see-through
See through money like its paper
With faces I remember

Nadie Como Ella

Ella sabe darse toda
en un instante
derretir con la mirada
un corazon
ella es fuego que se siente
en mis labios cuando
hacemos el amor

Es una aventura
andar bajo su blusa
poco a poco acariciar
toda su piel
Es un sueno darle un beso
ella sabe que me tiene
a su merced

[Coro]
Mi corazon es suyo
me siento suyo
daria la vida
por volverle a ver
quien iba imaginarlo
yo convertido
en un capricho
de su desnudez

No hay nadie como ella
tan dulce tan bella
me juego la vida por ella
no hay nadie como ella
es fuego que quema
estoy que me muero por ella

Ella no es como las otras
que dejaron
cicatrizes de amargura
y de dolor
vino ella y con ternura
otra vez me hizo creer
en el amor

[Repite Coro]

No hay nadie como ella
tan dulce tan bella
No hay nadie como ella
tan dulce tan bella

Es fuego que quema
y se mete en mis venas

Steven

I don't want to see you go
I don't even want to be there
I will cover up my eyes
And pray it goes away
You've only lived a minute of your life
I must be dreaming, please stop screaming
I don't like to hear you cry
You just don't know how deep that cuts me
So I will cover up my eyes
And it will go away
You've only lived a minute of your life
I must be dreaming, please stop screaming
STEVEN!
STEVEN!
I hear my name!
STEVEN!
Is someone calling me? I hear my name!
STEVEN!
That icy breath that whispers screams of pain!
I don't want to feel you die
But if that's the way that God has planned you
I'll put pennies on your eyes
And it will go away
See?
You've only lived a minute of your life
I must be dreaming, please stop screaming
Steven.... Is someone calling me? No....
Steven....
I think I hear a voice--- it's outside the door!
STEVEN!
I hear my name!
STEVEN!
Is someone calling me? I hear my name!
STEVEN!
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
STEVEN!
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
STEVEN!

Timida

Con ojos distraidos,
Quieta en una esquina corno si
Yo no estuviera alli.
Creo yo que el juego es para dos,
Los dos el mismo juego.
Pero no se da,

Yo no soy capaz
De lastimar su corazn.

Conozco sua secretos pero no
La voy a hacer sufrir,
Porque es tan dbil
Como un ptalo de flor

Rosta Man

(vanilla ice, w. stallings, craig pride)
Strictly from the islands, vanilla ice
The man jam down reggae music
Mash it up ice, mash it
I got the rhyme to keep the body pumpin
Turn the party out while the people are jumpin
Reggae style at the top of my list
Is hitting real hard like mike tysons fist
It is so good that the girlies goin crazy
Vanillas on the mic and you know Im not lazy
Im pumpin up the lyrics in a smooth way
I drop em like a bum rush much as what we say
The other mcs try to duplicate
But with the rosta man they just mediate
Rosta man you be jammin so smooth
You rockin on the mic and you can only improve
Rosta man you know you sound so sweet
I like the way you put the lyrics to the funky beat
Ah rae rue, re rae rah
Reggae rock has the style to chase the blues away
Ah rae rue, re rae rah
Reggae rock has the style to chase the blues away
Me and i, myself and you
The rosta man, deshay and the rest of my crew
Reggae musics been around for a while
Vanilla ice is doin it the hip hop style
Because this is the one that we call the rae rue
Everybody out there you know just what to do
Just clap your hands and stomp your feet
Move around to the sound of the reggae beat
No push, no fall, no shove, no trip
The rosta man wants you get with it
(repeat chorus)
Well the people out there let me hear you scream
If you want to get down and you want to be seen
Then jump up my man, do the rosta man
Move your head up and down to the reggae jam
Just shake your arms and move your hips
All you females out there let me shake your
And just get down like youre makin love
All you people who believe in God above
(repeat chorus)
From the ah rae rue, the re rae rah
The jack tar village in jamaica
Ocho rios or the way to kingston
If we go back to the homeland again
Back on tour from city to city
Rollin with the girls with the big, big ahhh...
Pity the fool who step it to me
I drop em like a fly, I better get the flea

Brother Love's Traveling Salvation SHow

Hot August night and the leaves hanging down
and the grass on the ground smellin' sweet
Move up the road to the outside of town
and the sound of that good gospel beat
Sits a ragged tent where there ain't no trees
And that gospel group tellin' you and me
It's Love Brother Love say Brother Love's traveling salvation show
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes
'Cause everyone knows Brother Love's show
Room gets suddenly still and when you'd almost bet
You could hear yourself sweat he walks in
Eyes black as coal and when he lifts his face
Every ear in the place is on him
Startin' soft and slow like a small earthquake
And when he lets go half the valley shakes
It's Love, Brother Love say Brother Loves traveling salvation show
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes
'Cause everyone knows 'bout Brother Loves show
(Halleluja) Brothers (Halle, halleluja) I say brothers
Now you got yourself two good hands
And when your brother is troubled you've gotta
reach out your hand for him 'cause that's what it's there for
And when your heart is troubled you've gotta reach out
your other hand, reach it out to the Man up there
'Cause that's what He's there for
Take my hand in yours
Walk with me this day
In my heart I know
I will never stray
Halle, halle, halle, halle, halle, halle, halle, halle
Love Brother Love say Brother Love's traveling salvation show
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes
I say Love Brother Love say Brother Love's traveling salvation show
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes

Abigail

Abigail, Abigail, keeps haunting me
I don’t remember when it started
Has to be the first seed of love
That planted Abigail in my heart
And etched it there for good….
In Martha I saw Abigail, in Ethel
In them all I chased Abigail
They were good, all of them
Flawless, spotless, free from blame
Lovable, dependable, transparent….
Yet I kept seeking Abigail
With a hallucinatory torment!
Did ever my eyes touch her once?
In a dream woven with fleeting romance
Or her face shone once in the moon
And melted as dew drops in the dazed dark!
Abigail my perpetual phantom
I neither get her nor fathom
I age, Abigail is ageless
Always there, but beyond embrace!

ANDY: Hi, Michael.
MICHAEL: Hi, Andy. Thanks for joining us. Do you
wanna ... you wanna sing a song together?
ANDY: Sure! Is it a sweet song?
MICHAEL: Yeah, it's real sweet.
ANDY: O.K.!
[They laugh.]
MICHAEL:
In this friendly, friendly world
With each day so full of joy
Why should any heart be lonely?
ANDY: My turn!
In this friendly, friendly world
With each night so full of dreams
Why should any heart be afraid?
The world is ...
MICHAEL ANDY:

To wander through
When you've got someone you love
MICHAEL:
To wander along with you
ANDY: O.K., now take every second word! With ...

Epitaph on an Unread Verse after William Carlos Williams' Red Wheelbarrow

This is just to play on plum phrases
hibernating in your brainbox,
which your neurones were probably waiting for
to break free fast.

Forgive me their taste is delicious,
so neat and so bold.

An agèd poet with hollow laughter
swiftly sprayed her incisive syllables
in consonant activity and, yearning,
paid [s]lip service:

so much depends
upon lifelong learning's expectations,
an unread verse [s]pokes for comments,
reigns above lily-livered chicken-hearted critics
before a blank screen.

so much more depends
upon monochromatic ash clouds
glazed with silicates
beside Icelandic
eruptions.

Life is verse role-reversing uninclined ignorance
shadowing dis...inclined ink lined page.

(Revised 3 October 2009 and19 Aptil 2010)

This is Just to Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
William Carlos Williams 1883_1963

Variation on a Theme by William Carlos Williams
1 I chopped down the house that you had been saving to live in next summer. I am sorry, but it was morning, and I had nothing to do and its wooden beams were so inviting.

Ella Es

Ella es sedosa
Divertida y enga? osa
Le tiene alergia a la verdad
Cuando le hablo seriamente
Me dice cosas intrascendentes

G.K. Chesterton

To St. Michael in Time of Peace

Michael, Michael: Michael of the Morning,
Michael of the Army of the Lord,
Stiffen thou the hand upon the still sword, Michael,
Folded and shut upon the sheathed sword, Michael,
Under the fullness of the white robes falling,
Gird us with the secret of the sword.

When the world cracked because of a sneer in heaven,
Leaving out for all time a scar upon the sky,
Thou didst rise up against the Horror in the highest,
Dragging down the highest that looked down on the Most High:
Rending from the seventh heaven the hell of exaltation
Down the seven heavens till the dark seas burn:
Thou that in thunder threwest down the Dragon
Knowest in what silence the Serpent can return.

Down through the universe the vast night falling
(Michael, Michael: Michael of the Morning!)
Far down the universe the deep calms calling
(Michael, Michael: Michael of the Sword!)
Bid us not forget in the baths of all forgetfulness,
In the sigh long drawn from the frenzy and the fretfulness
In the huge holy sempiternal silence
In the beginning was the Word.

When from the deeps of dying God astounded
Angels and devils who do all but die
Seeing Him fallen where thou couldst not follow,
Seeing Him mounted where thou couldst not fly,
Hand on the hilt, thou hast halted all thy legions
Waiting the Tetelestai and the acclaim,
Swords that salute Him dead and everlasting
God beyond God and greater than His Name.

Round us and over us the cold thoughts creeping
(Michael, Michael: Michael of the battle-cry!)
Round us and under us the thronged world sleeping
(Michael, Michael: Michael of the Charge!)
Guard us the Word; the trysting and the trusting
Edge upon the honour and the blade unrusting
Fine as the hair and tauter than the harpstring
Ready as when it rang upon the targe.

He that giveth peace unto us; not as the world giveth:
He that giveth law unto us; not as the scribes:
Shall he be softened for the softening of the cities
Patient in usury; delicate in bribes?
They that come to quiet us, saying the sword is broken,
Break man with famine, fetter them with gold,
Sell them as sheep; and He shall know the selling

Edge upon the honour and the blade unrusting
Fine as the hair and tauter than the harpstring
Ready as when it rang upon the targe.

He that giveth peace unto us; not as the world giveth:
He that giveth law unto us; not as the scribes:

Brother Loves Travelling Salvation Show

Written by: neil diamond
Hot august night
And the leaves hanging down
And the grass on the ground smelling sweet
Move up the road
To the outside of town
And the sound of that good gospel beat
Sits a ragged tent
Where there aint no trees
And that gospel group
Telling you and me
Its love, love
Brother loves travelling salvation show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Brother loves show
Room gets suddenly still
And when youd almost bet
You could hear yourself sweat, he walks in
Eyes black as coal
And when he lifts his face
Every ear in the place is on him
Starting soft and slow
Like a small earthquake
And when he lets go
Half the valley shakes
Its love, love
Brother loves travelling salvation show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Brother loves show
(sermon)
Take my hand in your hand
Walk with me this day
In my heart I know
I will never stray
Halle, halle, halle, halle, halle, halle, halle
Its love, love
Brother loves travelling salvation show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Brother loves show
Amen

Lluvia Cae

Ella cuando baila ay me pongo
Tan nervioso
Mi sangre se dispara y me vuelvo
Peligroso
Ella si me mira es que me vuelvo
Loco
Ella es la razon por la que yo
Soy tan dichoso
Sospecho que es inutil toda
Resistencia
Estoy predestinado no hay que
Darle vueltas
Luvia cae lentamente sobre mi
Que mas da si contigo estoy
Feliz
Ay ay ay ay ay me estoy
Enamorando
Lluvia cae lentamente sobre mi
Es igual tengo ganas de reir
Ay ay ay ay ay me estoy
Enamorando
Ella toda ella es un letrero
Luminoso
Apuesto a que sus besos tienen
Algo
Venenoso
Ella si camina es que es algo
Escandaloso
Ella si me mira es que me muero
Un poco
Lo logico seria que me resistiera
Y en cambio puede hacer de mi lo
Que ella quiera
Lluvia cae lentamente sobre mi
Que mas da si contigo soy feliz
Ay ay ay ay ay me estoy
Enamorando
Lluvia cae lentamente sobre mi
Es igual tengo ganas de reir
Ay ay ay ay ay me estoy
Enamorando
Lluvia cae lentamente sobre mi
Que mas da si contigo estoy
Feliz
Ay ay ay ay ay me estoy
Enamorando
Lluvia cae lentamente sobre mi
Es igual tengo ganas de reir
Ay ay ay ay ay me estoy
Enamorando

The Vision of Judgment

I

Saint Peter sat by the celestial gate:
His keys were rusty, and the lock was dull,
So little trouble had been given of late;
Not that the place by any means was full,
But since the Gallic era 'eight-eight'
The devils had ta'en a longer, stronger pull,
And 'a pull altogether,' as they say
At sea — which drew most souls another way.

II

The angels all were singing out of tune,
And hoarse with having little else to do,
Excepting to wind up the sun and moon,
Or curb a runaway young star or two,
Or wild colt of a comet, which too soon
Broke out of bounds o'er th' ethereal blue,
Splitting some planet with its playful tail,
As boats are sometimes by a wanton whale.

III

The guardian seraphs had retired on high,
Finding their charges past all care below;
Terrestrial business fill'd nought in the sky
Save the recording angel's black bureau;
Who found, indeed, the facts to multiply
With such rapidity of vice and woe,
That he had stripp'd off both his wings in quills,
And yet was in arrear of human ills.

IV

His business so augmented of late years,
That he was forced, against his will no doubt,
(Just like those cherubs, earthly ministers,)
For some resource to turn himself about,
And claim the help of his celestial peers,
To aid him ere he should be quite worn out
By the increased demand for his remarks:
Six angels and twelve saints were named his clerks.

V

This was a handsome board — at least for heaven;
And yet they had even then enough to do,
So many conqueror's cars were daily driven,
So many kingdoms fitted up anew;
