The Doctor Of The Heart

Take away your knowledge, Doktor.
It doesn't butter me up.

You say my heart is sick unto.
You ought to have more respect!

you with the goo on the suction cup.
You with your wires and electrodes

fastened at my ankle and wrist,
sucking up the biological breast.

You with your zigzag machine
playing like the stock market up and down.

Give me the Phi Beta key you always twirl
and I will make a gold crown for my molar.

I will take a slug if you please
and make myself a perfectly good appendix.

Give me a fingernail for an eyeglass.
The world was milky all along.

I will take an iron and press out
my slipped disk until it is flat.

But take away my mother's carcinoma
for I have only one cup of fetus tears.

Take away my father's cerebral hemorrhage
for I have only a jigger of blood in my hand.

Take away my sister's broken neck
for I have only my schoolroom ruler for a cure.

Is there such a device for my heart?
I have only a gimmick called magic fingers.

Let me dilate like a bad debt.
Here is a sponge. I can squeeze it myself.

O heart, tobacco red heart,
beat like a rock guitar.

I am at the ship's prow.
I am no longer the suicide

with her raft and paddle.
Herr Doktor! I'll no longer die

to spite you, you wallowing
seasick grounded man.

The Squaw Man

The cow-moose comes to water, and the beaver's overbold,
The net is in the eddy of the stream;
The teepee stars the vivid sward with russet, red and gold,
And in the velvet gloom the fire's a-gleam.
The night is ripe with quiet, rich with incense of the pine;
From sanctuary lake I hear the loon;
The peaks are bright against the blue, and drenched with sunset wine,
And like a silver bubble is the moon.

Cloud-high I climbed but yesterday; a hundred miles around
I looked to see a rival fire a-gleam.
As in a crystal lens it lay, a land without a bound,
All lure, and virgin vastitude, and dream.
The great sky soared exultantly, the great earth bared its breast,
All river-veined and patterned with the pine;
The heedless hordes of caribou were streaming to the West,
A land of lustrous mystery -- and mine.

Yea, mine to frame my Odyssey: Oh, little do they know
My conquest and the kingdom that I keep!
The meadows of the musk-ox, where the laughing grasses grow,
The rivers where the careless conies leap.
Beyond the silent Circle, where white men are fierce and few,
I lord it, and I mock at man-made law;
Like a flame upon the water is my little light canoe,
And yonder in the fireglow is my squaw.

A squaw man! yes, that's what I am; sneer at me if you will.
I've gone the grilling pace that cannot last;
With bawdry, bridge and brandy -- Oh, I've drank enough to kill
A dozen such as you, but that is past.
I've swung round to my senses, found the place where I belong;
The City made a madman out of me;
But here beyond the Circle, where there's neither right or wrong,
I leap from life's straight-jacket, and I'm free.

Yet ever in the far forlorn, by trails of lone desire;
Yet ever in the dawn's white leer of hate;
Yet ever by the dripping kill, beside the drowsy fire,
There comes the fierce heart-hunger for a mate.
There comes the mad blood-clamour for a woman's clinging hand,
Love-humid eyes, the velvet of a breast;
And so I sought the Bonnet-plumes, and chose from out the band
The girl I thought the sweetest and the best.

O wistful women I have loved before my dark disgrace!
O women fair and rare in my home land!
Dear ladies, if I saw you now I'd turn away my face,
Then crawl to kiss your foot-prints in the sand!
And yet -- that day the rifle jammed -- a wounded moose at bay --
A roar, a charge . . . I faced it with my knife:
A shot from out the willow-scrub, and there the monster lay. . . .
Yes, little Laughing Eyes, you saved my life.

The man must have the woman, and we're all brutes more or less,
Since first the male ape shinned the family tree;
And yet I think I love her with a husband's tenderness,
And yet I know that she would die for me.
Oh, if I left you, Laughing Eyes, and nevermore came back,
God help you, girl! I know what you would do. . . .
I see the lake wan in the moon, and from the shadow black,
There drifts a little, empty birch canoe.

We're here beyond the Circle, where there's never wrong nor right;
We aren't spliced according to the law;
But by the gods I hail you on this hushed and holy night
As the mother of my children, and my squaw.
I see your little slender face set in the firelight glow;
I pray that I may never make it sad;
I hear you croon a baby song, all slumber-soft and low --
God bless you, little Laughing Eyes! I'm glad.

sail on (Magellan's mantra)

the church says the earth is flat but i know its round
for i've seen the shadow on the moon and have
more faith in the shadow than the church because
the church says the earth is flat but i know its round
for i've seen the shadow on the moon and have
more faith in the shadow than the church because
the church says the earth is flat but i know its round
for i've seen the shadow on the moon and have
more faith in the shadow than the church because

for i've seen the shadow on the moon and have

Above The Shed On The Winter Porch

Above the shed, the winter porch
a young wild dove
continually calls its mate
and when the door slides open
I see dots on its breast
and at the pond it quenches its thirst
and I see dots
and I see dots
that shines; when it is frightened it becomes sullen.

Above the shed, the winter porch
the oak tree rustles
and then my mother coughs badly from croup
where sometimes she sits and dream
as the sunshine flames up hot
and I watch her caringly
as the sunshine flames up
as the sunshine flames up
as if a field fire runs past.

Above the shed, the winter porch
a swarm of swallows peck,
sometimes doves land in a group,
and at times I hear my mother sneezing
while I am caught with a kind of hope,
but I know that time is running out
while I am caught,
while I am caught
and my life at times feels sold out.

Stories Of Hope Series #4 The Elders

His wife died fifteen years past, and he knew
Living with his children would not last.
They would want to put him in a assisted living home
Just so that they could be left alone.
They could not foresee that one day they would be elderly.
They joked about him becoming senile
But he knew that would not happen for quite a while.
He was only sixty two with so much more living to do.
He knew the only thing he had left was HOPE.
And with life’s burdens he would have to cope.
So he decided to go back to school
And learn a new trade, and show his family
that he could make the grade.
He learned carpentry, and bought all the necessary tools
And what he couldn’t get, he borrowed from the school.
He already had in his mind of what he’d like to make.
And he knew that a long time it would take.
He decided to get the WESTERN RED CEDAR
For its softness and durability, and aromatic smell
This wood he knew would work quite well.
He found the perfect picture of what he had in mind
And viewed every detail and every line.
He wanted it to be about three feet tall
And two feet wide because that size would be just fine.
He started off very slowly, just chiseling away.
And sanding it down perfectly
For that’s the way it had to be.
He used each and every sculpting blade he could find
To define each and every line.
He did each part with delicate care
For with this piece there was a love he shared.
Slowly but surely it started to take shape
He was impatient, he could not wait.
But he knew that this was the way it was meant to be
So that everyone could see the beauty that had to be.
He worked on it every day, and his worries
Seemed to slip away.
Being put in a home was no longer his concern
And that his children would have to learn
That as long as he could breathe and walk
All of this was just talk.
This sculpture became his obsession
and his passion and made him grow strong
And doing this is where he belonged.
His teachers were very impressed and said
He was the best student yet.
They said that this was a work of art and of beauty
And should be put on display
And that for this the public would gladly pay.
He knew there was something missing
And that it was not complete,
and this problem he would defeat.
Then it dawned on him that it was needing color.
He needed the darkest blue and the deepest brown
And went about painting it without making a sound.
The darkest blue was for the piercing eyes
And the brown for the shoulder length hair
This was the perfect pair.
For three months he had toiled with perfection
For this was of the LORD and his resurrection.
And this was how it came to be
That this elder found harmony

HOPE IS THE KEY TO SET OURSELVES FREE

But You Know I Love You

When the mornin sun
Streaks across my room
And Im wakin up
From another dream of you
Yes, you know Im on the road
Once again it seems
All thats left behind
Is a chain of broken dreams
But you know that I love you
You know that I love you
Oh, I love you
And how I wish that love
Was all wed need to live
What a life wed have
cause Ive got so much to give
But ya know I feel so sad
Down inside my heart
That the dollar sign
Should be keepin us apart
But you know that I love you
You know that I love you
Oh, how I love you
And if only I could find my way back to the time
When the problems of this life
Had not yet crossed my mind
And the answers could be found in childrens nursery rhymes
Id come runnin back to you
Id come runnin back to you
Mmmmm
But you know we cant
Live on dreams alone
Got to pay the rent
So I must leave you all alone
cause you know I made my choice many years ago
And now this travelin life
Well, its the only life I know
But you know that I love you
You know that I love you
Oh, I love you
But you know that I love you
You know that I love you
Oh, how I love you
But you know that I love you
You know that I love you
Oh, how I love you
Fade:
But you know I love you
But you know I love you
Oh, I love you
But you know that I love you
But you know that I love you
Oh, how I love you
But you know that I love you
But you know that I love you
Oh, how I love you

Shaking Hands

To listen if only for a minute
To hear you and give feed back when I can
When I feel it demands.
I want to shake hands with everyone
But I know that just not possible.
I only hope those don't get hostile
Pick and choose
If only to lose
Still they are the clues
What you want
From the bottom to the top.

The Chornicles of a Dark Heart Part 2 The Heart

ok now put your right hand over your heart...
and rip it out
try to tear it from your veins
and when i do i find...

nothing is there........
i look down and cry, i cry and say i don't know why? !
but I know that what I just said was a lie
I withheld all my feelings and now
now i am a void shell no longer funny nor witty
please spare your pity
i have no feelings in my hollow shell.

how i wish to put my world
in the four corners of a can
where i can be at peace
in such smallness

but i know that cannot be done
it is not only me
it is also you and such a space
will be too small

we cannot fit there anymore
so open up
let us try the world where the river flows
where our vast dreams
may sail

you and i
and these uncertainties of murky waters
of hazy clouds
of morning mists
dark nights
and
howling dogs

It's not about you

I feel happy not cause I’m with you, you just happens to be there.
I feel happy not thinking of you, the thought of you just happens to cross my mind.
I feel happy not for loving you, but to know that I’m able to love.
I feel happy not for saying goodbye, but for the memories I collected.
I feel happy not to have you far from me, but to know that we still care for each other even in distance.
I feel happy cause I just feel like it.

Defamatory

what you said
was too defamatory
you paid him money
to tell a lie
and he got the money
and told the lie
the lie becomes a snake
with sharp fangs
the fangs contained the venom
and now
it spits back at you
you may not be dead
but i know that you are numb
for more lies
you too has become the snake
that spits the venom
that has grown fangs
now so immune
you manufacture all the lies
in that snake pit
of yours

how can the gods explain
such existence as you?

Be Strong

I cannot count the tears
Nor can I count the hate
Though I can only count
The men that hate didi take.

I cannot curse the World
Nor can I curse the few
Though I wish I could only curse
The Men that hate did knew.

I wish there was no pain,
I wish there was no grave,
But I know that will never be,
For like the rain, it comes everyday.

We are Given life,
And we are given death,
We are then given the choice,
To make it the worst or best.

I cannot count the bullets
Nor can I count the hate,
Though I can only count,
The Graves, where dreams are laid.

What Is To Come

What is to come we know not. But we know
That what has been was good--was good to show,
Better to hide, and best of all to bear.
We are the masters of the days that were:
We have lived, we have loved, we have suffered . . . even so.

Shall we not take the ebb who had the flow?
Life was our friend. Now, if it be our foe -
Dear, though it spoil and break us!--need we care
What is to come?

Let the great winds their worst and wildest blow,
Or the gold weather round us mellow slow:
We have fulfilled ourselves, and we can dare
And we can conquer, though we may not share
In the rich quiet of the afterglow
What is to come.

Payday Long Overdue

No one knows,
What you go through each day.
But there are some with 'something' to say...
About what it is,
That you do...
To get done.

No one knows,
How it is that you feel.
But opinions given they will reveal.
Just to get the satisfaction...
To opened ears to appeal.

But you know that...
Your payday coming for you is overdue.
For those dues paid that you've been through.
With no sad songs sung heard,
To come from you.

So get that payday long overdue.
You've been through what no one ever knew.
Leave those sad songs,
For others who sing the blues.

And you know that,
Your payday coming for you is overdue.
For those dues paid that you've been through.
With no sad songs sung heard,
To come from you.

Best

Mother, I see you with your nursery light,
Leading your babies, all in white,
To their sweet rest;
Christ, the Good Shepherd, carries mine tonight,
And that is best.

I cannot help tears when I see them twine
Their fingers in yours, and their bright curls shine
On your warm breast.
But the Saviour's is purer than yours or mine.
He can love best.

You tremble each hour because your arms
Are weak; your heart is wrung with alarms
And sore opprest:
My darlings are safe, out of reach of harm
And that is best.

You know over yours may hang even now
Pain and disease, whose fulfilling slow,
Naught can arrest.
Mine in God's gardens run to and fro,
And that is best.

You know that of yours, your feeblest one
And dearest, may live long years alone,
Unloved, unblest.
Mine entered spotless on eternal years,
Oh, how much the best.

But grief is selfish; I cannot see
Always why I should stricken be,
More than the rest:
But I know that, as well as for them, for me
God did the best.

Freedom Of Free Verse

its funny how in a america there is freedom of speech
and funny how in literature there is poetry
and funny how in poetry there is free verse

as an american i will excercise my right to speak
as a poet i will excercise my right to write
so lets begin

in the deepest corner of my mind lies lies
in the open space of my heart lies truth
in the unknown regions of my emotions lies insecurity
in the well known valleys of my attitude lies commitment

i be whom i should be and change for no one
i write what i feel and not what you want me to feel
i think what is for me to think and care nothing of what you think
i cry when i feel and not when you think you've made me feel

you whom are there have taught me
you are the and will disgust
you are there and will discuss me
you are there and will learn from me
you are there and will follow after me
you are there and will betray me
you are there and will not know me
you whom are the will NEVER control me

truth is in me and that will never change
love is in me and i dont want it to change
life is in me and that will never change
strenght is in me and i dont want that to change
wisdom is in me and i want it to change you
change is in me and that will never change

this talk of new beggining
this talk of love
this talk of truth
all this talk but no action
what a disappointment

WAIT
im not thru

how can you live with yourself
you have defiled yourself:
mind
body
soul
and spirit
what a waste

i dont live for you
i live because i have a purpose
and maybe i dont know what it is yet
but i have faith
and with this faith i beleive
with this faith i walk
physically blinded through swamps of evil
but, I know that GOD is there holding my hand
like a father guiding his daughter.
And like an alligator lurking in the waters
plotting a devious plan
is Lucifer the fallen angel,
waiting for any form of destraction
so that he can continue to corupt.

good luck..
4-leaved clovers
and horseshoes.
bad luck..
black cats
and cracks.
does it really mater
yes i keep in mind your feelings
as well as your sensitivity of your beleifs
but riddle me this
if a black cat with 4-leaved clovers
and cracks in its horseshoes
crosses your path what do you do then...

i think i've figured out me
but how could this be
when it took so long to see
that im here
to release fear
and enlighten your heart
to joy,
help you part
from being the devils toy
at least this is what i've seen in me so far
maybe this isn't true but how would i know
yeah,
it feels right
then again its not complete
so you now what right now im just going to live

free verse
meaning:
verse that does not follow a fixed metrical pattern.
to me its more of:
expressing without form or basis
well
this was my FREEDOM OF FREE VERSE
a young poet
in the eyes of many im a ticket out the hood
i dedicate this to no one in specific but
to all who have read or listened
and was touched and changed
by words that came
from my heavenly father
through a free verse girl.

Vinod

Multicultural love,
Tell me why you are now crying?
Multicultural colours,
Tell me why you now worried?
Multicultural languages,
Tell me why you cannot break through? !
For, i am like an open door to you all;
So, come and enter in! !
And, let others know that, i do care for you all.
Read it out,
Words of love and works of peace;
For i am Vinod in the land of joy!
And, i do have my romantic words to satisfy you all.
