Praying To A New God

(feldman / chandler / hues)
What got into you got into me too
What came over you is coming over me
Feel like Ive had enough of all the old stuff
I saw the writing on the wall on my t.v.
Its another second coming, like it or not, yeah,
Oh yeah
Its another second coming, like it or not
You better start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying to a new god
Start praying to a new, new god
Theyre saying the devils got a new job
Start praying to a new--
A lot of babel came down the cable
Everybody can be famous for a day
From shore to shore
A big department store
Is all thats left of the american way
Its another second coming, like it or not, yeah,
Oh yeah
Its another second coming, like it or not
You better start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying to a new god
Start praying to a new, new god
Start praying what are you afraid of
Start praying to a new--
Theres a big world
In the street outside
In their uniform of pride
And theyve all come
To see a star from the east
Is he man or beast?
Decide
Feel like Im crucified, still Im not satisfied
The second coming is coming anyway
I hear them pray for more on every dance floor
I hear the word go out across the milky way
Its another second coming, like it or not, yeah,
Oh yeah
Its another second coming, like it or not
You better start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying to a new god
Start praying to a new, new god
Success and moneys what hes made of
Start praying to a new--
Start praying, praying on the freeway
Start praying to a new, new god
Start praying, praying on the airwaves
Start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying at the back door

Ancient Highway

Theres a small cafe on the outskirts of town
Ill be there when the sun goes down
Where the roadside bends
And it twists and turns
Every new generation
And Ill be praying to my higher self
Dont let me down, keep my feet on the ground
Theres a roadside jam playin on the edge of town
In a town called paradise near the ancient highway
When the train whistle blows
All the sadness that hank williams knows
And the river flows
Call them pagan streams and it spins and turns
In a factory in a street called bread in east belfast
Where georgie knows best
What its like to be daniel in the lions den
Got so many friends only most of the time
When the grass is high and the rabbit runs
Though its talkin to you and i
And every new generation comes to pay
The dues of the organ grinder jam
And the grinders switch of the sacrifice
Everybody made to be rational with understanding
And Ill be praying to my higher self
Oh, dont let me down, keep my feet on the ground
What about all the people living in the nightmare hurt
That wont go away no matter how hard they try
Theyve got to pay time and time again, time and time again
Ill be praying to my higher self
And Ill be standin there, where the boats go by
When the sun is sinking way over the hill
On a friday evening when the sun goes down
On the outskirts of town, I wanna slip away
I wanna slip away, got to get away
And Ill be praying to my higher self
Dont let me down, keep my feet on the ground, dont let me down
Youll be cryin again, youll be cryin again, youll be cryin again
By the same wipe the teardrops from your eyes
Have to slip away in the evening when the sun goes down
Over the hill, with a sense of wonder
Everything gonna be right on a friday evening
All the cars go by all along down
The ancient highway
And Ill be praying, Ill be praying to my higher self
Dont let me down, keep my feet, keep my feet on the ground
Keep my feet on the ground
Travelling like a stranger in the night, all along the ancient highway
Got you in my sights, got you on my mind
Ill be praying in the evening when the sun goes down
Over the mountain, got to get you right in my sight

You're Praying

every time you stop to help
someone stuck on the side
of the road... you're praying.
every time you go over
and help your neighbor
mow his grass... you're praying.
every time you give a couple dollars
to the down and out person
bumming in the parking lot....
you're praying.
every time you take the time
to listen to someone whose
life is falling apart... you're praying.
every time you go and give blood
during your lunch hour...
you're praying.
every time you stand up
for the person everyone else
is running down... you're praying.
every time you take in a
stray dog or cat... you're praying.
every time you give more
than you have to give... you're praying.
every time you care
when no one thinks you should...
you're praying!

Time For A Little Praying

where could I go
now to find a prophet
who could explain

a brief simple literal
exemplified extended
a metaphor definition

of precious praying relative
to 21st century greed global
selfish inhuman indifference

hear main man told me
your praying every time
when you kindness stop

to help any stranger
struck by bad luck side
of life's lonely road

hear main man told me
your praying every time
when you kindness stop

to mow your neighbour's
grass; give a few dollars
to a forgotten down and out

person bumming a few notes
in a walk past parking lot;
when you take time to passion

listen to any poor lost soul
with a fragmented life blown
apart; when you go donate

your life saving blood free in
your rush lunch hour; when
you stand up alone to defend

that human imperfect person
everyone else is running down;
hear main man also told me

your praying every single time
your heart is moved to take in
a stray homeless lost dog or cat

every time Jesus cared when others
thought Jesus should not to Father God

Ive Been Thinkin

All I need is a place to be
And a way to feel
A space to figure out where I belong
A chance to know my thoughts
And find a way to show
What I feel
And if this is real, yeah
Dont wanna disappoint you
Dont wanna let you down
cause thats the last thing I would do
Im asking for you patience
I realize I could lose you
But lately Ive been so confused
Ive been thinkin ( thinkin )
Youve been on my mind ( on my mind )
So Ive been praying ( praying)
To find a way that I ( a way that I )
Can be sure, the way that ( the way that )
Youve been sure with me ( sure with me )
Dont you want that for me
Wondering endlessly if this is right or wrong
Or if its just about me all along
All I need is time to search within my soul
So I can share a deeper part of me, yeah
Dont wanna disappoint you
Dont wanna let you down
cause thats the last thing I would do
Im asking for you patience
I realize I could lose you
But lately Ive been so confused
Ive been thinkin ( thinkin )
Youve been on my mind ( on my mind )
So Ive been praying ( praying )
To find a way that I ( a way that I )
Can be sure, the way that ( the way that )
Youve been sure with me ( sure with me )
Dont you want that for me
Baby, whats meant to be ( what was meant to be )
Will surely be ( will surely be, baby )
( if you love me baby you would understand )
But I cant give you anything ( cant give you anything )
I dont have myself to give ( dont have myself to give )
And its killing me inside
Ive been thinkin ( thinkin )
Youve been on my mind ( on my mind )
So Ive been praying ( praying )
To find a way that I ( a way that I )
Can be sure, the way that ( the way that )
Youve been sure with me ( sure with me )
Dont you want that for me

Earn Enough For Us

Ive been praying all the week through
At home, at work and on the bus
Ive been praying I can keep you
And to earn enough for us
I can take humiliation
And hurtful comments from the boss
Im just praying by the weekend
I can earn enough for us
Found a house that wont repair itself
With its windows cracking
And a roof held together with holes
Just because were at the bottom of the ladder
We shouldnt be sadder
Than others like us
Who have goals for the betterment of life
Glad that you want to be my wife, but honest
Ive been praying all the week through
At home at work and on the bus
Ive been praying I can keep you
And to earn enough for us
So youre saying that were going to be three
Now, a fathers what Ill be
Dont get me wrong, Im so proud
But the belts already tight
Ill get another job at night, but honest
I can take humiliation
And hurtful comments from the boss
Im just praying by the weekend
I can earn enough for us
Just because were at the bottom of the ladder
We shouldnt be sadder
Than others like us
Who have goals for the betterment of life
Glad that you want to be my wife, but honest
I can take humiliation
And hurtful comments from the boss
Im just praying by the weekend
I can earn enough for us
I can earn enough for us

Praying For Rain

the farmer poet
walking barefoot
in the dust,
looking upwards
towards heaven,
praying for rain.

the blue collar poet
walks between the rows
of machines gone silent
in the deserted building,
looking upwards,
praying for work.

the nurse poet
stares at the line
of people wanting help,
no insurance, no money
looking upwards,
praying for hope.

the politician poet
surrounded by the din
of deals being made
without conscience
or integrity,
looking upwards,
praying for dignity.

the mother poet,
pushed into a corner,
no food, no money,
cant pay the rent or
buy clothes.
looking down
into her children's eyes,
praying for God!

the human poet,
looking inwards,
praying for all
that lives

praying for rain!

High Fives

High fives truly night jive
Living in the night time
Soul man golden old man
Weathering the time sands
This whole rhythm gives me what I need
Praying hard as your lifetime
Praying hard as your lifetime
Praying hard as your lifetime goes by
White lines fooling my kind
Living for the night time
Hold hands home in old land
Weathering the time sands
This whole rhythm gives me what I need
Praying hard as your lifetime
Praying hard as your lifetime
Praying hard as your lifetime goes by

Praying To The Aliens

Slowly the thought
There is no one to replace
Came into view
And he began to cry
Now only boys
That love only boys
The perfect picture
Of a boy/girl age
Im praying to the aliens
Im praying to the aliens
Grey overcoat
And he could be anyone
A random poll check
Do you ever think of women?
They broke him down
Into a torn old queen
Living somewhere
Between dead and dying
Im praying to the aliens
Im praying to the aliens
There are no more
Do you begin to see?
The corner of my eye
Could give me away
Isnt it strange
How times change?
I cant imagine
Living any other way
Im praying to the aliens
Im praying to the aliens

A Phoenician Woman Of Faith

your praying every single time
your heart is moved to take in
a stray dog or cat; I remember

a Phoenician woman who cried
out to the Lord, son of David;
because her daughter was badly

demonized; Jesus said to his disciples
“I was not sent forth to any but
to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

When the woman made obeisance
saying “Lord, help me! ” In answer
Jesus said “It is not right to take the bread

of the children and throw it to little dogs.”
With a mother’s love praying for her
daughter the Phoenician woman replied

“Yes Lord, but even the dogs do eat
of the crumbs falling from their master’s
table.” Jesus replied “Oh woman, great

is your faith; let it happen to you
as you wish.” In faith her daughter
was healed from that hour on. Thus Matthew 15: 21-28.

every time we give more than
we have to give we emulate Jesus
who gave to a faithful Phoenician

woman although she was not
a lost sheep of the house of Israel
she received in faith her daughter

healed just like similar faith encounter
a Roman centurion from Capernaum
who believed from a distance Jesus

could heal because he had authority
and in faith the manservant was healed Matthew 8: 5-13.
God gives authority as God has chosen

Jesus cared even when his disciples
thought Jesus should not it was Jesus
who miracle feed hungry five thousand

every time Jesus cared when others
thought Jesus should not to Father God

Peace Will Come

(e) i'm praying for the day, when the (a) whole wide world can say,
That this (e) cruel war it is (b7) o'er,
And the (e) boys who are gone, start their (a) long journey home,
Oh i'm (e) praying for the (b7) day when peace will (e) come.
When the black clouds roll away, and the skies are bright and gay,
And the guns are silent once more,
And the bombs no longer fly, from the planes up in the sky,
Oh i'm praying for the day when peace will come.
Oh there's mother and dad, don't you know they'll be so glad,
To see their son's coming home,
This old world will rock with joy, for that freedom loving boy,
Oh i'm praying for the day when peace will come.
Sweethearts and wives so dear, who have waited for that year,
For their loved ones to return,
This old world will be so gay, on that great and happy day,
Oh i'm praying for the day when peace will come.

Millenium

we've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying its not too late
millennium
some say that we are players
some say that we are pawns
but we've been making money since the day that we were born
then slow down before we fall down
we've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying its not too late
cause we know we're falling from grace
millennium
live for liposuction
and detox for your rent
overdose at Christmas
and give it up for lent
my friends are all so cynical
refuse to keep the faith
we all enjoy the madness cause we know we're gonna to fade away
we've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying it's not too late
cause we know we're falling from grace
millennium
come and have a go if you think you are hard enough (X2)
millennium (X2)
we've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying it's not too late
cause we know we're falling from grace
millennium
and when we come we always come to late
i often think that we were born to hate
get up and see the sarcasm in my eyes (X2)
we've got stars directing our fate
(millennium)and we're praying its not too late
(millennium)cuase we know we're falling from grace

One God shining in a miillion ways

they say god is one
and he is everywhere

he found him in his kitchen
and calls him his Kitchen God
praying to him night and day
for enough food on his table

some found him in the field
and call him their rice god
praying to him every season
to be blessed with food for the family

some women found him at the door
and call him their door god
praying to him each morning
for safety of the house

some found him in the mountain
and call him the mountain god
praying to him day and night
to bless their ancestors' spirits
they think dwell with Him there

another found him at sea
and call him the sea god
praying to him day and night
so that he could catch enough
of fishes to make his day

each of us looks and finds god
in some ways, calling him
our own god, in our own way
- the god that answers every
earnest call for his blessings
at the door, in the field, at sea
.....everywhere....

The Everlasting Gospel

The vision of Christ that thou dost see
Is my vision’s greatest enemy.
Thine has a great hook nose like thine;
Mine has a snub nose like to mine.
Thine is the Friend of all Mankind;
Mine speaks in parables to the blind.
Thine loves the same world that mine hates;
Thy heaven doors are my hell gates.
Socrates taught what Meletus
Loath’d as a nation’s bitterest curse,
And Caiaphas was in his own mind
A benefactor to mankind.
Both read the Bible day and night,
But thou read’st black where I read white.

Was Jesus gentle, or did He
Give any marks of gentility?
When twelve years old He ran away,
And left His parents in dismay.
When after three days’ sorrow found,
Loud as Sinai’s trumpet-sound:
‘No earthly parents I confess—
My Heavenly Father’s business!
Ye understand not what I say,
And, angry, force Me to obey.
Obedience is a duty then,
And favour gains with God and men.’
John from the wilderness loud cried;
Satan gloried in his pride.
‘Come,’ said Satan, ‘come away,
I’ll soon see if you’ll obey!
John for disobedience bled,
But you can turn the stones to bread.
God’s high king and God’s high priest
Shall plant their glories in your breast,
If Caiaphas you will obey,
If Herod you with bloody prey
Feed with the sacrifice, and be
Obedient, fall down, worship me.’
Thunders and lightnings broke around,
And Jesus’ voice in thunders’ sound:
‘Thus I seize the spiritual prey.
Ye smiters with disease, make way.
I come your King and God to seize,
Is God a smiter with disease?’
The God of this world rag’d in vain:
He bound old Satan in His chain,
And, bursting forth, His furious ire
Became a chariot of fire.
Throughout the land He took His course,

The Prophecy Of St. Oran: Part IV

I.
It is the night: across the starless waste
Of silent heaven the solitary moon
Flits like a frightened maid who flies in haste,
And wild with terror seems to reel and swoon,
As in her rear the multitudinous clouds
Follow like spectral huntsmen in their shrouds.

II.
And sometimes the wild rout o'ertakes its prey,
And holds her captive in the lowering sky,
But ever and anon she bursts away,
And her white orb floats lustrously on high,
And with its lambent flame transmutes the haze
Into a living halo for her face.

III.
And far o'er black morass and barren moor
The fitful splendour of the moonlight falls,
Its broken eddies sweep across the floor,
And dance in chequered silver on the walls,
And flood the chapel's grave-encircled site
With sudden flashes of unearthly light.

IV.
And as the unquiet moonlight comes and flies
Athwart the little roofless house of prayer,
Like some lost spirit strayed from Paradise
Or dæmon-angel of the realms of air,
A pallid shape flits through the open door
And flings itself, low wailing, on the floor;

V.
And wailing, wailing, lay there in its pain,
When suddenly it snatched from the out the sod
Some late-forgotten spade, while tears like rain
Poured from its eyes, enough to melt the clod,
And digging hard the small breach grew apace,
Till the soil lay like molehills round the place.

VI.
But through the silence suddenly there swells
Along the gusty breaths of midnight air
The mellow tinkling sound of magic bells,
Such as the pious brethren love to wear,

Facing Hell

You make promise of protection
To a future after life
To the final resurrection
And to eternal paradise

But then I'm blinded with temptation
And to every mortal sin
Is it God that sits there waiting?
Or will the darkness suck me in

Let's wake up the dead
Oh yeah
It's better that never you know
More tears are shed
Oh yeah
I'm praying that you'll never know
That I'm facing hell

Oh the children sit and listen
The belief was in their eyes
In a land without tomorrows
Through the night you hear their cries

But then your eyes just skip the pages
Of a book that never ends
Is it God that sits there waiting?
Do you hear the call again?

Let's wake up the dead
Oh yeah
It's better that never you know
More tears are shed
Oh yeah
I'm praying that you'll never know
That I'm facing hell

It's just crazy world we live in
And I'm out of my mind
You pray tomorrow but your leaving today
Evil one is coming and he's knocking your door
Cause todays the day you'll pay

Let's wake up the dead
Oh yeah
It's better that never you know
More tears are shed
Oh yeah
I'm praying that you'll never know

Let's wake up the dead

Christmas

Father:
Father:
Did you ever see the faces of children
Did you ever see the faces of children
They get so excited.
They get so excited.
Waking up on christmas morning
Waking up on christmas morning
Hours before the winter suns ignited.
Hours before the winter 1s ignited.
They believe in dreams and all they mean
They believe in dreams and all they mean
Including heavens generosity.
Including heavens generosity.
Peeping round the door
Peeping round the door
To see what parcels are for free
To see what parcels are for free
In curiosity.
In curiosity.
And tommy doesnt know what day it is.
And tommy doesnt know what day it is.
Doesnt know who jesus was or what praying is.
Doesnt know who jesus was or what praying is.
How can he be saved?
How can he be saved?
From the eternal grave.
>from the eternal grave.
Surrounded by his friends he sits so silently,
Surrounded by his friends he sits so silently,
And unaware of everything.
And unaware of everything.
Playing poxy pin ball
Playing poxy pin ball
Picks his nose and smiles and
Picks his nose and smiles and
Pokes his tongue at everything.
Pokes his tongue at everything.
I believe in love
I believe in love
But how can men whove never seen
But how can men whove never seen
Light be enlightened.
Light be enlightened.
Only if hes cured
Only if hes cured
Will his spirits future level ever heighten.
Will his spirits future level ever heighten.
And tommy doesnt know what day it is.
And tommy doesnt know what day it is.

VII. Pompilia

I am just seventeen years and five months old,
And, if I lived one day more, three full weeks;
'T is writ so in the church's register,
Lorenzo in Lucina, all my names
At length, so many names for one poor child,
—Francesca Camilla Vittoria Angela
Pompilia Comparini,—laughable!
Also 't is writ that I was married there
Four years ago: and they will add, I hope,
When they insert my death, a word or two,—
Omitting all about the mode of death,—
This, in its place, this which one cares to know,
That I had been a mother of a son
Exactly two weeks. It will be through grace
O' the Curate, not through any claim I have;
Because the boy was born at, so baptized
Close to, the Villa, in the proper church:
A pretty church, I say no word against,
Yet stranger-like,—while this Lorenzo seems
My own particular place, I always say.
I used to wonder, when I stood scarce high
As the bed here, what the marble lion meant,
With half his body rushing from the wall,
Eating the figure of a prostrate man—
(To the right, it is, of entry by the door)
An ominous sign to one baptized like me,
Married, and to be buried there, I hope.
And they should add, to have my life complete,
He is a boy and Gaetan by name—
Gaetano, for a reason,—if the friar
Don Celestine will ask this grace for me
Of Curate Ottoboni: he it was
Baptized me: he remembers my whole life
As I do his grey hair.

All these few things
I know are true,—will you remember them?
Because time flies. The surgeon cared for me,
To count my wounds,—twenty-two dagger-wounds,
Five deadly, but I do not suffer much—
Or too much pain,—and am to die to-night.

Oh how good God is that my babe was born,
—Better than born, baptized and hid away
Before this happened, safe from being hurt!
That had been sin God could not well forgive:
He was too young to smile and save himself.
When they took two days after he was born,
My babe away from me to be baptized
And hidden awhile, for fear his foe should find,—
