C'e Chi Dice No

Qualche cosa chiss
Quanta gente comunque ci sar
Che si accontenter
C' qualcuno che non sa
Pi cosa un uomo
C' qualcuno che non ha
Rispetto per nessuno
C' chi dice no, c' chi dice no
Io non ci sono
C' chi dice no, c' chi dice no
Io non mi muovo
Tanta gente convinta che ci sia nell''aldil

Devils Dice

Jesus christ was born like me in a stable
His mom and dad did all that they were able
How did they know which way hed turn
Didnt want to get their fingers burned
To take which path from right or wrong
He picked right and I picked wrong
I see myself swinging in the gentle breeze
Remembering girls and the way they teased
Mama and papa saying this I tell
We loved you boy but youre going to hell
Roll the devils dice - no second chance
Roll the devils dice - I did the dead-mans dance
I did the dead-mans dance
Ever since nine I was juvenile
Stealing from pa - did petty crime
Officer said for me no hope
The only good thing for yous a rope
Left me danging high and dry
They picked my bones and the crows took flight
I see myself swinging in the gentle breeze
Remembering girls and the way they teased
Mama and papa saying this I tell
We loved you boy but youre going to hell
Roll the devils dice - my turn to cast
Roll the devils dice - and I got the six
Roll the devils dice - all three of them
Roll the devils dice - roll the devils dice
So here I am on judgement day with angels
The lord jesus is reckoning the tables
He said I know you, didnt take you long
Been bad down there, didnt string along
You know which way the righteous choose
Gonna swing you high from the reapers noose
Roll the devils dice - no second chance
Roll the devils dice - I did the dead-mans dance
Roll the devils dice - my turn to cast
Roll the devils dice - roll the devils dice
I did the dead-mans dance

Easy Money

Lets go -- while were young!
Moving easy money, how far to the street
Close-in complications better keep your nose clean, better move my feet
Moves me like a winner Im turning up the heat
Ive gotta get me something I want to feel some friction, want to feel some heat
Keep your pretentions feel this beat
Easy money Im a rolling dice now
Give me something but your good advice
Easy money Im a rolling dice now, easy money
Sticky situations and a womans revelations
Ive gotta feel something, wanna feel some friction, wanna feel this heat
Keep your pretentions feel this beat
Easy money Im a rolling dice now
I dont need nothing, your good advice
Easy money Im a rolling dice now easy money
Look into my soul, and the night life of amsterdam
Laid down in stockholm, Ill always be your fan
Wind blows off the twilight, sunset in l.a.
The powers of the world, easy moneys ok
Instrumental
Easy money Im a rolling dice now
Give me something but your advice
Easy money Im a rolling dice now
Give me something but your good advice
Easy money and a rolling dice now
Give ms something I wont think twice
Easy money Im a rolling dice now,
Easy money easy money, hold on tight now
Easy money Im a rolling dice
Give me money, easy money....

You sit here
An axe in your hand
With blood in your mind
You won't waste your time
A phase in your life
Can't quiet ignite
The flame in your heart
You're dead from the start
Black art infused
Confused, you'll lose
Black art confused
Infused, you'll lose
Black mind sees lies
Can't find a reason why
Black mind sees lies
Can't find the reason why
Pervert the truth
To kill and abuse
Pervert the truth
To kill and abuse
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Insight, insight, insight
Ignite, insight, insight
Insight, the fight
A knife will slice and dice
You'll die
a knife will slice and dice
Your mind
A knife will slice and dice
Your life
A knife will slice and dice
You'll cry
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear
Die, die, die, die
Life, die, die, die
Slice and dice and dice
And lie, you'll die
Your mind, you're a lie
A lie, you'll die
A knife, you'll die
A rip, a shred, a tear
Inside a rip, a shred, a tear

Little Viper

Slice
Dice
Ooh baby, baby how come you never say anything nice
Never ever satisfied
Never get enough
Little Viper
Always so damn mean to me
I just don't understand
Why do you wanna do this to your man?

You're a witch with a capital B
Girl, you're a mastermind of broken hearts
Got mine on a string
Pull, pull, pullin' it along
Feels so wrong
Feel so right
Even when you got me
Singing all night

Slice
Dice
Ooh baby, baby how come you never say anything nice
Never ever satisfied
Never get enough
Little Viper
Always so damn mean to me
I just don't understand
Why do you wanna do this to your man?

On my knees
Beggin' ya please, please
Baby please
There's only so much bad lovin' a man can take
Only so much I'm willin' to fake
Pretendin' we're still the same
The same as we were yesterday
Ooh Little Viper, no way

Slice
Dice
Ooh baby, baby how come you never say anything nice
Never ever satisfied
Never get enough
Little Viper
Always so damn mean to me
I just don't understand
Why do you wanna do this to your man?

Making my move
Gonna try to get closer

Atalanta's Race

Through thick Arcadian woods a hunter went,
Following the beasts upon a fresh spring day;
But since his horn-tipped bow but seldom bent,
Now at the noontide nought had happed to slay,
Within a vale he called his hounds away,
Hearkening the echoes of his lone voice cling
About the cliffs and through the beech-trees ring.

But when they ended, still awhile he stood,
And but the sweet familiar thrush could hear,
And all the day-long noises of the wood,
And o'er the dry leaves of the vanished year
His hounds' feet pattering as they drew anear,
And heavy breathing from their heads low hung,
To see the mighty corner bow unstrung.

Then smiling did he turn to leave the place,
But with his first step some new fleeting thought
A shadow cast across his sun-burnt face;
I think the golden net that April brought
From some warm world his wavering soul had caught;
For, sunk in vague sweet longing, did he go
Betwixt the trees with doubtful steps and slow.

Yet howsoever slow he went, at last
The trees grew sparser, and the wood was done;
Whereon one farewell backward look he cast,
Then, turning round to see what place was won,
With shaded eyes looked underneath the sun,
And o'er green meads and new-turned furrows brown
Beheld the gleaming of King Schœneus' town.

So thitherward he turned, and on each side
The folk were busy on the teeming land,
And man and maid from the brown furrows cried,
Or midst the newly blossomed vines did stand,
And as the rustic weapon pressed the hand
Thought of the nodding of the well-filled ear,
Or how the knife the heavy bunch should shear.

Merry it was: about him sung the birds,
The spring flowers bloomed along the firm dry road,
The sleek-skinned mothers of the sharp-horned herds
Now for the barefoot milking-maidens lowed;
While from the freshness of his blue abode,
Glad his death-bearing arrows to forget,
The broad sun blazed, nor scattered plagues as yet.

Through such fair things unto the gates he came,
And found them open, as though peace were there;

Loaded Dice

By dickey betts and warren haynes
(c) 1990 cbs records, inc.
Transcribed by matt dickie
Pocket full of money
Got a big smile all on my face
Boy and I can charm the diamonds
Right off the back of a rattlesnake
But youve got me so confused
Cut me cold as ice
I aint used to losing
Guess Im playing with loaded dice
Well the first time that I saw you
Said youd just dumped your old man
Then the next time you was dealin
Must have dealt me a losing hand
Woman I tried to win your love
Just cant pay the price
Keep throwing in sevens
I keep on playing with loaded dice
Well I thought I was a hustler
But you sent me back to school
Keep playing some new game
Making up your own rules
Must be some kind of crazy
Let you fool me twice
I dont know why
I keep playing with loaded dice
Well, tonight I hit the jackpot
I was shining like a diamond ring
Lady luck was smiling
And the old snake charmer was doing his thing
You saw the tables turn
Man it sure felt nice
Now we see whos laughing
Now we see whos playing with the loaded dice
Girl you aint like nothing
Ive ever seen before
Keep throwing in aces
I keep coming back for more
Guess I should have listened
But you cant give a fool advice
Dont know why I keep playing with loaded dice.

Cast The Spirit

Written by russ ballard, 1983
Found on your move, ventura highway and other favorites, and the very best of america.
When you feel down and youve nobody to turn to
When you feel youre about to give up
The sun goes down and darkness surrounds you
And its runnin dry in your lovin cup
Cast the spirit, cast it out
If its in your body, then let it out
Put out the fire, let it cool down
If its in your tears, then let it drown
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
You cant ignore the feeling inside you
In your mind youre without a friend
The spirit is there, its in every doorway
You say to yourself, will it ever end
Cast the spirit, cast it out
If its in your body, then let it out
Put out the fire, let it cool down
If its in your tears, then let it drown
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
When you feel down and have nobody to turn to
You say to yourself, why cant it be
The sun goes down and darkness surrounds you
You feel you want to be free
Cast the spirit, cast it out
If its in your body, then let it out
Put out the fire, let it cool down
If its in your tears, then let it drown
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Cast the spirit
Cast the spirit

Magic Woman Touch

(jennings / watt-roy)
Im looking through at yesterday
All my life thrown away
Keep searching for the same old clue
How can I get to you
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch
I know theres been a change in me
Ask me why I dont know
My friends no longer speak to me
Pass me by I dont know
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch
Ive made up my mind
On what Im gonna do
This feeling inside
Making it all right, making it all right
Making it all right with me
Break
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch
Cast your spell upon me one more time
I wanna feel your magic woman touch

The Ballad of the White Horse

DEDICATION

Of great limbs gone to chaos,
A great face turned to night--
Why bend above a shapeless shroud
Seeking in such archaic cloud
Sight of strong lords and light?

Where seven sunken Englands
Lie buried one by one,
Why should one idle spade, I wonder,
Shake up the dust of thanes like thunder
To smoke and choke the sun?

In cloud of clay so cast to heaven
What shape shall man discern?
These lords may light the mystery
Of mastery or victory,
And these ride high in history,
But these shall not return.

Gored on the Norman gonfalon
The Golden Dragon died:
We shall not wake with ballad strings
The good time of the smaller things,
We shall not see the holy kings
Ride down by Severn side.

Stiff, strange, and quaintly coloured
As the broidery of Bayeux
The England of that dawn remains,
And this of Alfred and the Danes
Seems like the tales a whole tribe feigns
Too English to be true.

Of a good king on an island
That ruled once on a time;
And as he walked by an apple tree
There came green devils out of the sea
With sea-plants trailing heavily
And tracks of opal slime.

Yet Alfred is no fairy tale;
His days as our days ran,
He also looked forth for an hour
On peopled plains and skies that lower,
From those few windows in the tower
That is the head of a man.

But who shall look from Alfred's hood

The Cook's Tale

THE Cook of London, while the Reeve thus spake,
For joy he laugh'd and clapp'd him on the back:
'Aha!' quoth he, 'for Christes passion,
This Miller had a sharp conclusion,
Upon this argument of herbergage.* *lodging
Well saide Solomon in his language,
Bring thou not every man into thine house,
For harbouring by night is perilous.
*Well ought a man avised for to be* *a man should take good heed*
Whom that he brought into his privity.
I pray to God to give me sorrow and care
If ever, since I highte* Hodge of Ware, *was called
Heard I a miller better *set a-work*; *handled
He had a jape* of malice in the derk. *trick
But God forbid that we should stinte* here, *stop
And therefore if ye will vouchsafe to hear
A tale of me, that am a poore man,
I will you tell as well as e'er I can
A little jape that fell in our city.'

Our Host answer'd and said; 'I grant it thee.
Roger, tell on; and look that it be good,
For many a pasty hast thou letten blood,
And many a Jack of Dover hast thou sold,
That had been twice hot and twice cold.
Of many a pilgrim hast thou Christe's curse,
For of thy parsley yet fare they the worse.
That they have eaten in thy stubble goose:
For in thy shop doth many a fly go loose.
Now tell on, gentle Roger, by thy name,
But yet I pray thee be not *wroth for game*; *angry with my jesting*
A man may say full sooth in game and play.'
'Thou sayst full sooth,' quoth Roger, 'by my fay;
But sooth play quad play, as the Fleming saith,
And therefore, Harry Bailly, by thy faith,
Be thou not wroth, else we departe* here, *part company
Though that my tale be of an hostelere.* *innkeeper
But natheless, I will not tell it yet,
But ere we part, y-wis* thou shalt be quit.' *assuredly
And therewithal he laugh'd and made cheer,
And told his tale, as ye shall after hear.

THE TALE.

A prentice whilom dwelt in our city,
And of a craft of victuallers was he:
Galliard* he was, as goldfinch in the shaw**, *lively **grove
Brown as a berry, a proper short fellaw:
With lockes black, combed full fetisly.* *daintily

Coyote

Coyote goes to the top of the hill
Doin the things the coyotes will
Staring at the sky, at the moon
You know he starts to howl
Coyote goes to the mountain top
Looks over down at the river, says what a drop
No tame dogs is gonna take my born
Coyote at the top of the hill
Doin the things the coyotes will
You gotta cast the first stone
Cast the first stone
Jackal goes to the top of the hill
Doin the things that jackals will
Staring at the moon
You know he starts to howl
Wild dog up on mountain top
Blood in his jaws, the bone, he drops
No tame dogs is ever
Ever gonna take my bone
Jackal up on the top of the hill
Doin the things that jackals will
Cast the first stone
Cast the first stone
Coyote on top of the hill
Ooohhh, doin the things the coyotes will
Staring at the sky, looks at the moon
He starts to howl
Coyote up on the mountain top
Blood in his jaws, the bone, he drops
Says no tame dogs is ever

VIII. Dominus Hyacinthus de Archangelis, Pauperum Procurator

Ah, my Giacinto, he's no ruddy rogue,
Is not Cinone? What, to-day we're eight?
Seven and one's eight, I hope, old curly-pate!
—Branches me out his verb-tree on the slate,
Amo-as-avi-atum-are-ans,
Up to -aturus, person, tense, and mood,
Quies me cum subjunctivo (I could cry)
And chews Corderius with his morning crust!
Look eight years onward, and he's perched, he's perched
Dapper and deft on stool beside this chair,
Cinozzo, Cinoncello, who but he?
—Trying his milk-teeth on some crusty case
Like this, papa shall triturate full soon
To smooth Papinianian pulp!

It trots
Already through my head, though noon be now,
Does supper-time and what belongs to eve.
Dispose, O Don, o' the day, first work then play!
The proverb bids. And "then" means, won't we hold
Our little yearly lovesome frolic feast,
Cinuolo's birth-night, Cinicello's own,
That makes gruff January grin perforce!
For too contagious grows the mirth, the warmth
Escaping from so many hearts at once—
When the good wife, buxom and bonny yet,
Jokes the hale grandsire,—such are just the sort
To go off suddenly,—he who hides the key
O' the box beneath his pillow every night,—
Which box may hold a parchment (someone thinks)
Will show a scribbled something like a name
"Cinino, Ciniccino," near the end,
"To whom I give and I bequeath my lands,
"Estates, tenements, hereditaments,
"When I decease as honest grandsire ought."
Wherefore—yet this one time again perhaps—
Shan't my Orvieto fuddle his old nose!
Then, uncles, one or the other, well i' the world,
May—drop in, merely?—trudge through rain and wind,
Rather! The smell-feasts rouse them at the hint
There's cookery in a certain dwelling-place!
Gossips, too, each with keepsake in his poke,
Will pick the way, thrid lane by lantern-light,
And so find door, put galligaskin off
At entry of a decent domicile
Cornered in snug Condotti,—all for love,
All to crush cup with Cinucciatolo!

Well,
Let others climb the heights o' the court, the camp!

The Cock And The Fox: Or, The Tale Of The Nun's Priest

There lived, as authors tell, in days of yore,
A widow, somewhat old, and very poor;
Deep in a dale her cottage lonely stood,
Well thatched, and under covert of a wood.
This dowager, on whom my tale I found,
Since last she laid her husband in the ground,
A simple sober life, in patience led,
And had but just enough to buy her bread;
But huswifing the little Heaven had lent,
She duly paid a groat for quarter rent;
And pinched her belly, with her daughters two,
To bring the year about with much ado.
The cattle in her homestead were three sows,
An ewe called Mally, and three brinded cows.
Her parlour window stuck with herbs around,
Of savoury smell; and rushes strewed the ground.
A maple-dresser in her hall she had,
On which full many a slender meal she made,
For no delicious morsel passed her throat;
According to her cloth she cut her coat;
No poignant sauce she knew, nor costly treat,
Her hunger gave a relish to her meat.
A sparing diet did her health assure;
Or sick, a pepper posset was her cure.
Before the day was done, her work she sped,
And never went by candle light to bed.
With exercise she sweat ill humours out;
Her dancing was not hindered by the gout.
Her poverty was glad, her heart content,
Nor knew she what the spleen or vapours meant.
Of wine she never tasted through the year,
But white and black was all her homely cheer;
Brown bread and milk,(but first she skimmed her bowls)
And rashers of singed bacon on the coals.
On holy days an egg, or two at most;
But her ambition never reached to roast.
A yard she had with pales enclosed about,
Some high, some low, and a dry ditch without.
Within this homestead lived, without a peer,
For crowing loud, the noble Chanticleer;
So hight her cock, whose singing did surpass
The merry notes of organs at the mass.
More certain was the crowing of the cock
To number hours, than is an abbey-clock;
And sooner than the matin-bell was rung,
He clapped his wings upon his roost, and sung:
For when degrees fifteen ascended right,
By sure instinct he knew ’twas one at night.
High was his comb, and coral-red withal,
In dents embattled like a castle wall;

Napoleon

I

Cannon his name,
Cannon his voice, he came.
Who heard of him heard shaken hills,
An earth at quake, to quiet stamped;
Who looked on him beheld the will of wills,
The driver of wild flocks where lions ramped:
Beheld War's liveries flee him, like lumped grass
Nid-nod to ground beneath the cuffing storm;
While laurelled over his Imperial form,
Forth from her bearded tube of lacquey brass,
Reverberant notes and long blew volant Fame.
Incarnate Victory, Power manifest,
Infernal or God-given to mankind,
On the quenched volcano's cusp did he take stand,
A conquering army's height above the land,
Which calls that army offspring of its breast,
And sees it mid the starry camps enshrined;
His eye the cannon's flame,
The cannon's cave his mind.

II

To weld the nation in a name of dread,
And scatter carrion flies off wounds unhealed,
The Necessitated came, as comes from out
Electric ebon lightning's javelin-head,
Threatening agitation in the revealed
Founts of our being; terrible with doubt,
With radiance restorative. At one stride
Athwart the Law he stood for sovereign sway.
That Soliform made featureless beside
His brilliancy who neighboured: vapour they;
Vapour what postured statues barred his tread.
On high in amphitheatre field on field,
Italian, Egyptian, Austrian,
Far heard and of the carnage discord clear,
Bells of his escalading triumphs pealed
In crashes on a choral chant severe,
Heraldic of the authentic Charlemagne,
Globe, sceptre, sword, to enfold, to rule, to smite,
Make unity of the mass,
Coherent or refractory, by his might.

Forth from her bearded tube of lacquey brass,
Fame blew, and tuned the jangles, bent the knees
Rebellious or submissive; his decrees
Were thunder in those heavens and compelled:
Such as disordered earth, eclipsed of stars,

Wherever Destiny Falls

(after Hannah Szenes)

One two three and we part
a few strides taken in the dark
and the smell of making love is still strong
and our feelings remain a question mark.

One two three and tomorrow you may see me
not as a lover, or even a friend,
but might be my enemy
and in a week or two I might not still be here

and life is sometimes great, sometimes fair,
sometimes the dice rolls
when it’s cast to another side,
and the end I feel is quite near

and what you mean to me, doesn’t count,
does not matter at all,
what matters most is in the balance
and when the dice falls, you are lost

while the game of life is still on
and for some going strong
while I am trying to play again
somewhere else

and one two three and we part
a few strides taken in the dark
and the smell of making love is still strong
somewhat like new rain on the earth

and I am still gambling and I may be right,
I might be wrong
and we embark on where destiny falls,
rather than on what matters most.

[Reference: The last poem of Hannah Szenes:
:
“One - two - three... eight feet long
Two strides across, the rest is dark...
Life is a fleeting question mark
One - two - three... maybe another week.
Or the next month may still find me here,
But death, I feel is very near.
I could have been 23 next July
I gambled on what mattered most, the dice were cast. I lost. “]

Tumblin Dice

Women think I'm tasty, but they're always tryin' to waste me
And make me burn the candle right down,
But baby, baby, I don't need no jewels in my crown.
'Cause all you women is low down gamblers,
Cheatin' like I don't know how,
But baby, baby, there's fever in the funk house now.
This low down bitchin' got my poor feet a itchin',
You know you know the duece is still wild.
Baby, I can't stay, you got to roll me
And call me the tumblin' dice.
Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry,
Don't you see the time flashin' by.
Honey, got no money,
I'm all sixes and sevens and nines.
Say now, baby, I'm the rank outsider,
You can be my partner in crime.
But baby, I can't stay,v You got to roll me and call me the tumblin',
Roll me and call me the tumblin' dice.
Oh, my, my, my, I'm the lone crap shooter,
playin' the field ev'ry night.
Baby, can't stay,
You got to roll me and call me the tumblin' (dice),
Roll me and call me the tumblin' (Got to roll me.) dice.
Got to roll me. Got to roll me

Roll Of The Dice

Well Ive been a losin gambler
Just throwin snake eyes
Love aint got me downhearted
I know up around the corner lies
My fools paradise
In just another roll of the dice
All my elevens and sevens been comin up
Sixes and nines
But since I fell for you baby
Been comin on changin times
Theyre just waitin over the rise
Just another roll of the dice
Ive stumbled and I know I made my mistakes
But tonight Im gonna be playin for all of the stakes
Well its never too late so come on girl
The tables are waiting
You and me and lady luck well tonight
Well be celebrating
Drinkin champagne on ice
In just another roll of the dice
High-rollers lay down your bets and Ill raise em
Well I know the odds aint in my favor
Maybe Im just a clown throwin down
Looking to come up busted
Im a thief in the house of love
And I cant be trusted
Well Ill be making my heist
In just another roll of the dice
Move on up
Come on seven
Roll me baby
In this fools heaven

Step around and dance a bit
Polish up the dice
Set em loose and let em roll
This is my advice
Keep your mind a mystery
Runnin hot n cold
Shes more than money
Shes 14 karat gold
If you wonder why Im acting up this way
Gonna cash my chips Im leavin town today
I got more love than I could ever spend
So long, farewell, good-bye, this is the end
Step around and dance a bit
Polish up the dice
Set em loose and let em roll
Be as cool as ice
Keep your mind a mystery
Runnin hot n cold
Shes more than money
Shes 14 karat gold
If you get hit by the bug that bit on me
If you get caught with something soft and sweet
If you get found with something you cant waste
Then listen bud, let me give you a taste
Step around and dance a bit
Polish up the dice
Set em loose and let em roll
This is my advice
Keep your mind a mystery
Runnin hot n cold
Shes more than money
Shes 14 karat gold
Step around and dance a bit
Polish up the dice
Set em loose and let em roll
Be as cool as ice
Keep your mind a mystery
Runnin hot n cold
Shes more than money
Shes 14 karat gold

Roulette (FT Jide Bj Akindola)

Russian roulette rolling of dice
rushing men fails to think twice
Russian roulette rolling of dice
these are the chances of life

Looking in the barrel of a gun
The life of a wanderer
Russian roulette rolling of a die
Never a need to think twice

Find your fortunes in my losses
wonder for the purpose of your own
Russian roulette rolling of dice
you play your cards while I play mine

In my teachings these lessons stay in line
Know your limits and your state of mind
Russian roulette rolling of dice
Think twice before you walk in blind
