Winter Doldrums

The bells ring out the New Year’s here
It’s hailed by all with liquid cheer
And then the ice-pack’s put away
The Bowl Game’s o’er, and sad to say
No more days off for months on end
A dismal fact – one we should mend.

But soon the days are quickly sped
And warm, green Spring looms close ahead
The fishing season comes once more
Vacation plans – days at the shore
The summer brings the most of fun
To children, ‘cause their school is done.

But now, we dwell in Winter’s chill
The air so cold, the earth so still
The snow, the slush, the driving sleet
Chains on tires and boots on feet
But smile! Most likely we’ll get through
Besides, there’s not much else to do.
